Some snow is actually on tap for tomorrow a little bit. Philadelphia Streets Department is preparing the salt trucks tonight here at the depot in feltonville. 70 city trucks will deploy tomorrow morning. Lets get the latest on this wintry mix weekend system. Lets go to storm tracker6 live double scan and meteorologist cecily tynan. And jim, double scan live showing that there is some moisture riding along a front to our south. Its not a big storm and even now temperatures right now are way too warm for snow but we will be cooling out as we head through the overnight hours. 44 degrees in philadelphia right now but if you look at those arrows, those stream lines from the northwest thats the wind direction. Buffalo and binghamton, temperatures in the 20s. We will be dropping into the 20s overnight and then temperatures will be really holding in the 30s. So, the next 12 hours at 1 oclock in the morning below freezing and then early tomorrow morning 29 degrees so a cold start to your saturday and then some of that moisture will be moving in right around lunchtime. That light snow beginning to break out from the west to the east between about 10 oclock in the morning and 1 oclock in the afternoon. So, right around lunchtime. Could get a little bit of sleet mixing in south of philadelphia even areas far south, dover, cape may could have a touch of rain. Its a quick hitting system. It will be all done between 6 oclock and 9 oclock and were looking at a nuisance event a coating to perhaps an inch in some areas so not a big system. Monsignor william lynn was back in Philadelphia Common Pleas Court today. His attorney argued that city prosecutors withheld evidence at lynns first trial. Lynn was convicted of child endangerment for failing to investigate allegations of child sexual abuse against a priest. Lynn spent 33 months in jail but was released when an Appeals Court granted him a new trial. Now his lawyer says that the withheld evidence should bar a new trial. The judge will rule in march. The man who escaped a police car while handcuffed is back in custody. Chopper6 was overhead as the man was taken into Police Station in northeast philadelphia. It all started with an attempted traffic stop for reckless driving on the boulevard at 5 oclock this morning. Authorities say the driver struck a police car and two other vehicles. He was apprehended by an off duty state trooper but managed to break out of the vehicle. Police caught up with him again at 9 15 on the 900 block of godfrey avenue. There has been another Violent Crime on the Schuylkill River trail in center city philadelphia. A 20yearold man and a 21yearold woman were robbed at gunpoint at 12 30 this morning. Action News Reporter Jeanette Reyes is live on the trail near walnut street. Jeanette, whats the full story there . Reporter well, jim, the trail here was bustling with people just a few minutes ago. Its when the sun sets that those numbers start to dwindle. We talked to a lot of runners here and others who were in the area and they tell us its the scenery that really draws them out here but when the sun sets, some say they are more aware others avoid it altogether. I think of this like an unsafe area when youre running along here. Thats shocking. I definitely wouldnt come here at like 1 oclock in the morning or anything. But it does kind of concern me because we do kind of run along here a lot. Reporter Philadelphia Police say around 12 30 this morning a 20yearold man and a 21yearold woman were walking along the trail near walnut street when they were approached by a masked man. He pulled out a gun and demanded their things. The victims werent harmed but the suspect did get away with their phones and wallets. Our main thing is seeing if we can investigate get Additional Information and get this guy in custody before he can do it again. Im in the surprised im disappointed. Reporter runners say the trails are great to enjoy while the sun is up. At night it can be a little risky. It makes me nappie have someone to run with so im not by myself. Reporter still, with or without a partner, some say its simply not worth hitting the trails beautiful as they may be so late at night. If i dont see anybody at all from the bridge i might not come down here. Im only here during the Daylight Hours when there are other people running and walking. Reporter now police did increase patrols in the area here well before all of this happened. Some of the officers are uniformed others in plainclothes. Still theyre asking people if you must come out here at least be more aware of your surroundings. As far as the suspect here, they werent able to get a detailed description but of course anyone with information on this case are you asked to contact police. Police blocked off the 1300 block of atlantic avenue and evacuated several buildings all to inspect a suspicious package left outside the county office building. It was an unattended suitcase. Bomb squad officers say it didnt prove to be a danger. But the lockdown delayed the citys 30th annual Martin Luther king jr. Celebration which has now been postponed until next week. A camden man shot by police on wednesday is facing attempted murder charges tonight. The county Prosecutor Says 38yearold Jose Fernandez ventura was involved in a Domestic Violence incident inside an apartment on the 2700 block of federal street. Officers say they saw Fernandez Ventura point a gun at a woman who was holding an eight month old child on her lap. And they say the man pulled the trigger. Police then opened fire. The woman and Fernandez Ventura are in the hospital. The infant is okay. The u. S. Department of justice today released an update on the Philadelphia Police department. The review was ordered back in 2013. That in response to an increase in officerinvolved shooting. Well the review finds the department is implementing a majority of the 91 federal recommendations including the creation of an officerinvolved shooting investigation unit. Mayor jim kenney is also reviving the Police Advisory commission. The push to repeal obamacare in washington is having ripple affects across the country. Thats why democratic senator tom carper organized a News Conference tonight in wilmington to focus on the importance of the Affordable Care act. It took place less than an hour ago at Saint Francis hospital. Lawmakers and Healthcare Professionals argue that repealing the aca without an adequate replacement would be detrimental to the health of patients and the healthcare system. A Philadelphia High School is celebrating quite an impressive accomplishment. 100 percent of the senior class at cristo rey has been accepted to a four year college. [cheers and applause] the students erupted in cheers this morning when they heard all 80 seniors have received letters of acceptance from colleges and universities. It was part of the schools honors Convocation Ceremony at our lady of hope parish in north philadelphia. I didnt think it was going to happen. Im really proud of all my classmates and the work weve put in and its really paying off. [cheers and applause] this has been four years in the making for our terrific senior class. They have hearts on fire for college. And we have a great staff that ignites that fire. And last years graduating class also had a 100 Percent College acceptance rate. These are americas newest citizens. They swore an oath of allegiance today at the u. S. Citizenship and immigration field officers in west philadelphia. Todays naturalization ceremony was chosen specifically to honor dr. Martin luther king jr. In advance of the holiday on monday. These immigrants came to the United States from more than 30 countries. It is an accomplishment in and of itself to live to 100 years old. Quite another thing to still be driving a car and keeping a busy social calendar. But that is the life of Cape May County resident elsie sheerer who marks her milestone birthday tomorrow. New jersey correspondent Nora Muchanic introduces us to this inspiring centenarian. Reporter music has always been a part of elsie sheerers life. She learned to play piano at four and now as she turns 100 her fingers still glide across the keys. For 50 years you ask me a question ive been taking vitamin supplements. Do you think that might have something to do with it aside from the almighty up there . Theyre not ready for me yet up there. When elsie was born january 14th 1917 Woodrow Wilson was president and a loaf of bread cost seven cents. A century later this philadelphia native has changed her look but keeps plugging away. She plays piano at the Upper Township Senior Center each day and until recently led an exercise class there. Shes an inspiration for all of us to not give up actually and to just keep going. Theres not many people on this planet that make to it triple digits so its a spectacular event. Reporter retiree from Campbell Soup she married and worked with chorus leader Louis Shearer until he died in 1991. These days she likes to keep busy and keep a sense of humor. We meet every sunday. Show goes to a methodist church, i go to a baptist church. Well forgive her for being baptistism Elsie Shearer still driving. She motors to the Senior Center and every sunday to Trinity Methodist Church in marmora where shes the organist. The best thing we ever did was adopt her. Reporter doris and rick jones keep an eye on elsie. We try not to do holidays without her and shes just a big part of our life. Reporter elsies stamina would put the energizer buddy to say. You have to wonder what keeps her going, what keeps her so young. I think being energetic using your muscles is good for you. Using your brain is even better. In the big east you can get beat by anyone if you dont come to play. Were going to approach this game like we approach all of our other games. Its our most important game because its our next one. This kind of will humble you. This conference will humble you. These teams are very well talented well coached and disciplined teams. The conference is awesome. When the league formed four years ago i could never have dreamed that it was this competitive have this many teams in the top 25. Reporter so the champs find themselves in second place in the conference theyve won three seasons in a row. Wright says the good news is theyre far from peek. We have enough players that can turn it on a little bit when they need to. But we still havent as a team i dont think weve come out and really played 40 minutes yet.
