And a woman jumps out of an airplane right on to the tarmac. Eyewitness news starts right now. We have new local perspective tonight as investigators try to determine the motive behind an Ohio State University students rampage. Good evening im tisha powell. And im steve daniels. The attacker has been indeitified as Abdul Razak Ali artan. Investigators are now trying to decipher an antius Facebook Rant believed to be linked to him. It was posted just minutes before the attack just before ten this morning. After he used his car to plow into with a butchers knife and then was shot and killed by a Campus Police officer. 11 people were rushed to the hospital in columbus one is in critical condition. Tonight were hearing from a u nc graduate now studying at ohio state. Joel brown has her story from raleigh tonight. We spoke to erin oehler on skype, tonight. Shes from tabor city, a small town about 80 miles south of fayetteville. She spent 4 years in chapel hill as an undergrad at unc. But now, shes at ohio state. Studyingl amid the chaos. Erin was looking for somewhere to hide. My instincts were just go somewhere safe, call my family. Erin was inside the law school at ohio state. When that buckeye alert cross her phone. Active shooter on campus. Run. Hide. Fight. Confusion and rumors spreading fast. Initially we were thinking there were 3 of them. That there were 2, one had a gun, one had a knife. It was a lone attacker armed with a butcher immediately breaking news. We begin with that breaking news at Ohio State University. Both my parents actually my entire family lives in North Carolina, so i knew if the news broke they would feel uneasy. I called my mom and the first thing i said was i need you not to panic. The attacker turned out to be about 7 blocks away from where erin was at the law school. But the initial alert never mentioned a location. So erin led her classmates to a locked location where they could shelter in place. Suite on the 1st floor, protected by key card access. So i was walking down the hallway just kinda grabbing people and telling them ill let you in the journal suite and we can just hang out there. Football nats up shock on campus went right up to the schools vaunted football program. Tyquan lewis, the football standout from tarboro tweeting. Everybody on alert. Shooter on campus. Then later. Crazy world we live in man. Back inside the law school, erins together since their days at unc. He texted, i would feel much better if you could get home. But dont dare move unless its safe. Erin didnt move. She and her classmates keeping themselves distracted with homework. Just distract ourselves and just take the situation minute by minute and not try to overanalyze every thing. Erin told us after she phoned her folks back in tabor city. She turned the ringer off on her phone. If the attacker was i she didnt want him to hear her cell phone going off. This was the scene at about seven oclock on capital boulevard at starmount drive. A car woundup under a big rig. Our crew on the scene says at least one other car was involved. Saunderswhite passed over the Holiday Weekend after losing her battle with cancer. After the service on campus, the Campus Community held a candlelight vigil. Saunders made history as the schools First Permanent e students say she personified eagle excellence, a term she coined. Former students told us she inspired them to follow their dreams. A celebration of life tribute will be held on friday at 2pm at the mcdougald mclendon arena. In durham tonight dialogue and frustration. Coopers Campaign Manager in a statement called tonights news a devastating blow for mccrory adding theres no path to victory supporters sent a message to governor pat mccrory.
