heard a crack. i looked to my side. we both just turned and ran. reporter: this transformer nearly fell on two canton cops. when a big pine tree came down, a tree limb fell on power lines in the end, two utility poles broke. during repair, late morning, a third pole gave way, endangering police. >> how close were you to the pole? was it right in front of you? >> well, by the time we were done running, it was probably 20 feet. before that, it basically landed right next to where we were standing. >> nobody got hurt. that's the best part. that could have been anybody going around to school. >> there was a lot of lightning without thunder. very curious. it was like a microburst. >> i never heard a storm that stayed in one place for so long. reporter: downed limbs and lines. the officers who ran for the hills are still on the detail. luckily, that falling transformer wasn't powered up. >> the antenna went out just a little while before. reporter: crews have been here since 5:00 a.m. the hope is to get power back on by 10:00 p.m. the other utility poles have all been checked. residents really concerned about some of the dangling limbs still all, there were two recent deaths in woo to death at the majestic dragon back in 2011. he faces a mandatory sentence of life without parole. he was also convicted of armed assault and stealing. another man faces trial in march in connection with that murder. >> a salem police officers is accused of trying to hide oxycontin pills. he appeared in court today, along with three others arrested in this case. the officer was off duty at the time. he is accused of possessing at least four pills after a friend bought them while undercover officers in lynn watched. the accused officer, she says she's disappointed. this is what we should be doing. there's a break of trust in this situation and we need to address it. >> that officer was released today and his attorney says he will immediately seek treatment. he is on leave during the investigation. >> the family of a teenage caught in a custody battle with two hospitals is suing boston children's doctors. they say it's about making sure what happened to their daughter doesn't happen to another family. newscenter 5's sera congi is live in boston right now. reporter: the lawsuit named children's hospital as well as four doctors. and the parents of the connecticut teenager say this isn't so much about seeking revenge but about making sure this doesn't happen to another family. >> i started horseback riding. i really love it. it's therapeutic. reporter: 17-year-old justina pelletier says she hopes to walk again after an ordeal at children's hospital. >> it was awful. reporter: three years ago, the connecticut teenager walked into children's with her parents for care of a rare disease. a newly filed lawsuit alleges was psychological. when her parents objected and to another hospital, the pelletiers claimed the hospital accused them of d.c.f. >> and when her mom and dad objected to this treatment plan, guards came. they took them away. these doctors swore out statements and d.c.f. took custody. reporter: justina remained in state custody for 18 months, hospital. >> just imagine being in a psych ward, without needing to be in a psych ward. reporter: children's would not comment specifically on the case but released a statement that reads in part, boston's children's hospital welcomes the chance to vigorously defend the medical care it provided to justina. they do not keep patients in their care against the direction of the custodial guardians. >> this is not about revenge. this is about making people accountable, making the medical before they take actions. reporter: now, the lawsuit is seeking monetary damages. no amount is things that you have to deal with right now on a personal front? reporter: the f.b.i. raided joyce's law office last week. today the boston globe reports the focus is on joyce's involvement in a solar panel project at stone hill college in easton. joyce represented the company they said joyce was hired by select energy and that the college was in no way involved in that decision and has never paid him for any services. the statement went on to say, we have no information as to why the solar field work undertaken by joyce for power management and select energy is under investigation. the town of easton confirms it has been subpoenaed in the case and is turning over relevant documents. joyce was involved in clean energy legislation at the same time he represented select energy. >> we are awaiting the due process to be completed, the investigations are ongoing. if any matters are resolved in a way that require the senate to take action, we will do so. reporter: again, joyce had no in newport, rhode island. the fire work was being done on the building at the time. the fire department said no injuries were reported. the mansion is about 9,000 square feet with nine bedrooms and 11 its way in. to the north, a few scattered showers. to the south shore, especially down through the marshfield area, it stretches back towards brockton. in randolph, a little downpour as well. there's a downpour right now just off to the east. this will be marching its way if you're driving home this evening, you're going to be needing the windshield wipers. there's even more back here. but all of it is light. you are going to be seeing scattered showers. those showers staying with us through 8:00. they're around here till about 10:00. then eventually the skies starting to clear away. as the skies clear away, the temperature drops. tomorrow morning will be chilly. the temperature doesn't change that much tomorrow. in fact, highs will look like this, generally in the mid- to upper 30's. not very warm. worcester, maybe only about 32 for a high tomorrow. it stays cool on saturday. but look what happens on sunday. we're back into into the 50's. just a couple days of cool weather, then warmth moving back in. tomorrow is the wind chill index you want to keep an eye out for. cool on saturday. warming up for sunday. chance for showers on monday. looks like mild stuff. just a very light
