Truck brining a road in springfield township, montgomery county. So how much and when . We get answers from first alert meteorologist bill henley. I have no doubt that the crews will keep up with the light snow heading in this evening. Here is your time looip. During the day, cold and cloudy and dry through the afternoon. It is this evening when we start to see the first light snow arriving between 7 00 and 9 00. Just a few neighborhoods during that time. And then more widespread snow later in the evening and into early tomorrow morning. Overnight, expect accumulations of one to two inches. Maybe a couple of neighborhoods getting more than two but im not expecting more than that. And by first thing tomorrow morning before the rush gets underway, the snow will move off shore, off the jersey shore and out to sea and well be done with it. Right now plenty of clouds. The radar is picking up what looks like snow and that is snow up above the ground. By the time it reaches the ground, it is falling into some very dry air so this first little bit of snow that is trying to come out of the clouds is not even getting close to the ground. So that is not the snow were going to get this evening. There it is. Moving through kentucky, and into the ohio valley, West Virginia and even into portions of virginia. So it has a ways to go before it gets here. Plenty of planning time. But it is not the sunny day we had yesterday by a long shot when we saw temperatures in the 50s. Right now it is 30 degrees in philadelphia. The wind is out of the west at 12 miles per hour. The system will be coming in from the west. The winds wont be as strong for the suburbs and new jersey as what we saw yesterday and not as warm with the clouds and upper knowledge at 35 degrees with mostly cloudy skies for philadelphia and the upper 30s in delaware. That is a little bit warm for snow but these numbers are falling before the snow starts to move in this evening. Ill take you through hour by hour with the futurecast and well look at how much you can expect in your neighborhood when i come back. Tracy. Bill, thanks. And remember, you can download the nbc 10 app to get updates on the Winter Weather and get alerts for your neighborhood forecast sent right to your phone. Now your nbc 10 first alert weather. Heading out right now, it is cold and cloudy. Cold enough to make snow. And theyre at it. In the poconos it is in the teens and camelback. That is the only snow youll see during the day. This evening a different story. Even the mountains will get some snow out of this system coming our way but not a lot. Im only looking for an inch or two in the poconos but that is true for much of the area. But during the afternoon, dry but cloudy afternoon with temperatures above freezing, but just barely. They come back down tonight and well be tracking light accumulating snow in the area that will continue into early tomorrow morning. Right now watching the tea temperatures and clouds increase. 39 in philadelphia. And 28 in the Lehigh Valley. And south jersey, limited sunshine getting through the clouds but not having a big impact on the temperatures. Look at woodstown, piles grove, mt. Laurel, all below freezing this morning. Lumberton at 31 degrees. And low 20s in princeton and now 29. 30 degrees in robbinsville. Will peak above freezing this afternoon and then the teams start to come back the temperatures come back down. Right now the clouds are increasing. You could see the little bit of snow that is trying to develop but is falling into very dry air so not reaching the ground. But it is a different story in virginia and beyond. This is the snow that is going to be arriving this evening. It is a large area of light snowfall. And well see the first snowflake during the early evening hours. After a cloudy afternoon, 6 30 this evening, light snow pushing into delaware and new castle county, salem county and into philadelphia and more widespread accumulating snow by late in the evening. That is 11 00 tonight. It looks pretty impressive right there. Though that is light snow. It is not even coming down in cape may at that hour. That changes overnight as this system will be shifting. That is 2 00 in the morning, still light snow nor wilmington and philadelphia and trenton and quickly moving out to sea. Long gone by 7 00. Well before the morning commute starts. So how much to expect . Well the snow potential, not a lot by 9 00. Could see an inch on the ground by that hour in wilmington. And in the late evening hours and to midnight, about an inch into middle school and vor hees and pottstown and then it increases into the Early Morning hours, 2 00 and just about done, seeing more in parts of new jersey, up to three inches in vorhees but then no more snow after that and drying out and getting colder for the weekend. So your ten day on 10, 35 today. Dry during the day and light snow this evening and early tomorrow morning and sunshine breaking through tomorrow afternoon. But dont expect sunshine to warm things up over the weekend. In fact, the temperatures go the other way. Especially cold on sunday when it is windy too, with temperatures in the 20s. The warmup comes next week ahead of rain on wednesday and thursday and it is just rain with temperatures up to 50 degrees on wednesday afternoon. Just 46 degrees with the showers coming to an end on thursday. Well with the snow, the timing couldnt be better. Everybody get home and settle in and the road crews do what they need to do and then you have a dusting. Most people are off the road. So the 180 trucks that weve been reporting are hitting the roads, should have no problem with this one. And then focus on the cold this week. Especially sunday, the wind is blowing and the teams are plummeting. Well start with the teens and possibly windchills near zero sunday morning. So take good care about that. Thanks, bill.
