Brandnew Surveillance Video. Its 1 00 in the morning and police have their flashing lights on conducting a simple traffic stop on main street. A Police Sergeant is standing out on the road speaking with another officer, when out of nowhere, police say a drunk driver plows into the sergeant, sideswiping him and tossing his body down the street. Take a look one more time, with the camera zoomed in. The officers hat and shoes go flying. He suffers a broken collarbone and head injuries, while police say that drunk driver hits the gas and tries to run away. This just in from Philadelphia Police. They have made an arrest. That alleged drunk driver identified as Collin Murphy, a 21yearold, charged with aggravated assault, dui, criminal mischief and other offenses. So all of the areas are a little bit cooler than, of course, they would be if these clouds werent there. But thats all it is, just cloud cover. Theres no rain. Until you get way up to the north and west. That stuffs going to go to our north and miss us. Were not expecting any rain during the night tonight. But look how warm it is in the mornings, 6 00 a. M. , 75 degrees in philadelphia. Even in the suburbs, Lehigh Valley, its going to be warm. Thats a sign of a steamy air mass. And the start to ha very, very hot day. New details now about the 8yearold girl who was shot in the head as gun violence erupted in her camden neighborhood last night. Cydney long has been following the story today. She joins us live at whats been an active scene in camden. First, cydney, tell us how the little girl is doing. Reporter we know the little girls name and were told she is still in extremely Critical Condition at cooper trauma center. Her family by her side. This as police have literally been canvassing every nook and cranny of this neighborhood throughout the day today. With new information about a 5,000 reward in the case, and the search for multiple shooters. One neighbor said it sounded like the gunmen were inside her home. It was an 8yearold baby. She didnt have a chance. Reporter she witnessed the horror outside her doorstep last night. And she cant erase the images. I seen the woman. I still see her. Reporter the 8yearold, her granddaughters friend and playmate were shot in the head. Gabby was playing across the street from her own home. We have multiple shooters in this. She was not the intended target clearly. We have it caught on video. Reporter Scott Thompson said its video theyre not ready to release of a suspect jumping into a car, driving south on 9th street. They combed an alley for clues today as officers handed out fliers asking residents to speak up. Thompson said last nights shooting is gang related and now the fbi, new jersey attorney general and u. S. Attorney are involved. Were going to put a laserlike focus on these individuals. Were using everything in our power to make sure they never walk the streets as free individuals again. I heard the screaming. Keep pressure on it. Reporter she said the shootings here are an everyday noise. Her twin sons are the same age as the victim. They dont want to come outside and play anymore after last night. Their hearts are broken. My heart is hurt. I just hope yall find who did it. Reporter camden has had 30 homicides so far this year. The chief said the time to ditch the nosnitch attitude is right now. They need a partner in this community to solve this crime. He called last nights crime cowardly. And incomprehensible. In philadelphias chinatown, a judge today sentenced brandon menley to 35 to 55 years in prison. Menley was caught on Surveillance Video walking into an art studio on north ninth street back in october 2014. He then attacked and raped the studios owner. And she opened for the day. He ended up taking 600 from the victim before leaving. We have new details about a woman killed while ziplining at a delaware state park. The operator of the zipline now says the woman disconnected herself from a Safety System before falling to her death. She was standing on a platform about 35 feet in the air waiting to get on a zipline when she fell. It happened yesterday at go ape tree top adventure in bear. Police have identified the woman as 59yearold tina werner of felton. Her daughter posted a photo on facebook wednesday of her mother kissing her cheek. This is on her wedding day. She said ziplining was on her mothers bucket list. The company said the crew inspected the entire course and platform where she fell and found it was safe and nothing was broken. The course is currently closed now out of respect for the victim. Developments in the septa slowdown. Septa is making more changes as it works to get all of its trains back on the tracks. It is adding express blue service or express bus service, i should say, starting next month, more than a month after they pulled the third of their fleet to fix an equipment problem. The cars are expected to become more packed next month with people back from vacation and students returning to school. So starting september 6th, there will be bus service along five Regional Rail lines. We are getting a new look at the devastation in italy as more aftershocks rattle the region hit by the deadly earthquake. This aerial footage shows the extent of the damage. New drone video also shows flattened homes on a hillside in one of the hardest hit towns in central italy. The death toll stands at 250, and counting. The 6. 2 magnitude quake struck early wednesday morning. Today an aftershock with a magnitude of 4. 3 caused the collapse of more buildings damaged by the initial tremor. Rescue crews and search dogs are searching around the clock to find survivors. But the aftershocks are making it even more difficult to look for signs of life. Officials say they are still in the phase where they hope to find people alive. In fact, firefighters pulled a 10yearold girl from the rubble just last night about 17 hours after the quake struck. Back stateside, were getting a birdseye view of the damage left behind by a tornado outbreak in indiana. This is from the town of kokomo, where one of the twisters touched down wednesday. Crews from throughout indiana are headed there now to help restore power, and clean up a lot of that debris. Indiana governor and republican Vice President ial candidate mike pence toured the town of kokomo. At least 12 tornadoes touched down in indiana, and ohio wednesday. Amazingly, no one was seriously hurt. Take a look at one of those tornadoes tearing through ohio. At one point you could see it blast a mobile home to bits. No one was in there, though, thank goodness. Thousands of homes were damaged or left without power. But no serious injuries here either. Louisianas governor says he will be asking congress for more money to help people recover from the floods in the southern part of the state. He toured the baton rouge area today. Meanwhile, louisiana native now living in delaware is organizing an effort to help people in her home state. Michelle is filling a trailer in newark to take supplies down to louisiana. Her family members lost their homes in baton rouge. A friend lent her the trailer, and she put the word out shes gathered things needed for flood victims in her home state. The donations of cleaning supplies, rubber gloves, money, food and water are pouring in from both friends and strangers. She begins the long drive to louisiana on sunday. I knew that i was part of a good network of good people. Its heartwarming to see the overwhelming response coming in. Flooding killed at least 13 people in louisiana earlier this month. Clinton released this new campaign ad today which suggests donald trump is an ally of White Supremacists and ku klux klan. Clintons running mate, senator tim kaine, will campaign in pennsylvania next week, in erie and lancaster on tuesday. Kaine will also visit the Lehigh Valley on wednesday. But details of that visit have yet to be released. After a slew of recent criticism, the maker of the epi pen is lowering the cost of the device. It will expand programs that will lower epi pen costs by as much as half. But its not budging on the price. The company has come under fire for the skyrocketing costs. Theyre used to ward off potentially fatal allergic reactions. A twodose package cost under 60 nine years ago, and its now up to 600. The ceo said shes as frustrated as everyone else. This isnt an epi issue, or a company issue, this is a health care issue. Pharmaceuticals, the irony is that the system incentivizes higher prices. Patients will now also be able to order epi pens directly from the company to help lower costs. The ceo is the daughter of u. S. Senator joe manching. From our south jersey bureau, camden officials tell us theyre close to reaching their goal of demolishing nearly 600 blighted buildings. Officials at the final phase of the project. 60 more abandoned in unsafe houses throughout camden will come down. The mayor called the demolition project the largest of its kind in the state of new jersey. It is my hope that with these units gone, our residents and our children can fully enjoy camden city parks, and enjoy camdens open space in a safe environment. It took the work of 150 volunteers to build the new dressers. A man says his car broke down, and when he went to get it fixed, he hit another bump in the road. He contacted Harry Hairston and the nbc 10 responds team. Harry, whats the deal here . Ive got to tell you, when we started talking to these people, they could not believe what they were going through. This is truly amazing. Listen, this is a story about being down on your luck, and then hit in the face with yet another problem. Beverly Glover Chapman and her husband, michael, went through financial hardships last spring. Back in may, his 2011 kia broke down on roseville boulevard. The engine seized. He had just filed bankruptcy. And for the car to go down, how was he going to go to work. Reporter chapman thought the car was under warranty until the dealer explained differently. They said i was over the 100,000 Mile Warranty by 112 miles. Reporter a few days later, chapman got unexpected good news. Kia corporate offices sent him this letter out of the blue. They had extended the warranty to 120,000 miles because they realized between 2011 and 2014, their vehicles were having crank shaft and bearing issues. Reporter but there was a catch. The Dealership Service manager said kia corporate needed two years worth of oil change receipts proving chapman properly maintained the car before it could make repairs under the extended warranty. Chapman did not have the receipts. Without them, the dealership told chapman he would be responsible for 5,130 for repairs. Chapman says he started doing what he could to come up with the money. I started working a lot of doubles at my job. Reporter he tells us after working 30 days of double shifts, he decided to contact nbc 10 responds. I have been seeing your program on tv, and i thought maybe you can help me resolve this issue. Reporter we reached out to kia corporate offices which tells us chapman had not brought it to their attention for additional review. After we got involved kia told chapman they would cover the costs. News that overwhelmed him. I was in tears, i was crying, and thanking god. Reporter chapman says hell use the money he earned from working double shifts to pay off other bills. Im thankful to you. Bless you. Thats good for chapman. He also says hes looking forward to going back to working regular hours and getting some muchneeded sleep. A woman in western pennsylvania is accused of stabbing and biting her husband, because he drank one of her beers when she slept. By tomorrow morning, its still 72 in allentown. 75 in philadelphia and wilmington and atlantic city. And trenton. Those are really warm temperatures for that time of the morning at that time of year. An indication of how humid it is. By noontime, were pushing 90 degrees in philadelphia. And by afternoon, were well into the 90s. Maybe even mid90s in philadelphia. Now, in the tropics, theres one storm way out. This is the one that weve been watching. And you can see all the thunderstorms right there. Thats over land. And they diminished. But on this visible picture, you can see the circulation right there. So there is a low pressure center. Once you get the thunderstorms around it, it has a chance to develop. But its more likely to develop, all the possible tracks here. The general direction is south florida, and into the gulf of mexico. Thats where it has the best chance of being of going into a Tropical Storm or hurricane status. Over the next five days, look at the sunshine through sunday. Next chance of thunderstorms tuesday. Reporter Surveillance Video shows philly Police Conducting a simple traffic stop. A sergeant standing on the side of the road with flashing lights to warn drivers. Some cars pass by slowly, but then out of nowhere, a speeding rav 4 sideswipes the sergeant. Take a closer look. His hat and shoes go flying into the air. And police said his body was propelled 15 feet down the road. Employees at the late night pizza shop heard the collision, then saw the sergeant lying in the middle of the intersection. When they came out, they seen the Police Officer on the ground screaming. Reporter the impact so powerful, his shoes went flying. He suffered a broken collarbone, and head injuries. Police said that drunk driver then hit the gas and might have gotten away if it werent for a Good Samaritan, a local tow truck driver, saw the hitandrun happen, followed the suspect and helped the police make the arrest. 21yearold Collin Murphy now charged with aggravated assault and dui.
