Good morning jillian. Good morning to you, bill. We have freezing rain out there and things could get slippery and dangerous. I want to put the alert out to watch for slippery conditions on area bridges because the bridge surfaces can get very slippery before the road surfaces can. No incidents on the bridges, but watch for the conditions. The pennsylvania turnpike if thats part of your commute this morning, we are starting to get a little bit of volume westbound although your drive times are indicating a delay on the belt of one to two minutes. Westbound route 1 to valley forge, 24 minutes right now. A millersville student is found dead in her come room anddorm room and this morning investigators are here with more. Reporter take a look this is the victim, 18yearold karli hall of Chester County. She was found dead inside her dorm room around this time yesterday morning. Soon after her body was found, her boyfriend, 19yearold Gregorio Orrostieta was arrested. There was a physical assault between the two early yesterday morning. Orrostieta is not a Millersville University student. He was unable to post 1. 5 million bond. So right now hes being held at the Lancaster County prison. Investigators tell us they expect to release more information later today, specifically how the victim karli hall died. And at 6 30 coming up in a half hour, well look into what the university is doing today for students who are having a hard time coping with this loss. New from overnight, a crash involving a fire truck is under investigation in the West Oak Lane area of philadelphia. This investigation happened an hour ago at 69th and old york road. Authorities say a person inside the suv was hurt but no firemen were hurt. And investigators killed a man during a Home Invasion in southwest philadelphia last night. Someone broke into a home, shot a woman and two men and one of the men died this morning. The other victims are expected to be okay. No one has been arrested. And officials are investigating a fire in philadelphia that broke out inside and apartment at silverwood and herman streets last night at 9 00. There were no serious injuries. And now to a story youll only see on nbc 10. Calling for backup. We have learned wilmingtons soaring homicide rate prompted police to bring in help patrolling the city. Jesse gary is live in wilmington with exclusive details. Jesse, why are officials taking this step now . Reporter vai, a crime rate that has steadily risen with no signs of showing its going back down. On average this year so far, more than one murder per week. An all too familiar reality for residents. I hear sirens and the ambulance every night. Thats going on down the street. Reporter wilmington resident joy brown says shes watched the current violent trend since childhood. We did some digging and found the problem area in red. Right from the first areas in the foremost of the city. They have seen two dozen homicides annually. In 2012 there were three dozen. We are turning up the temperature and the heat on these young kids that are the issue. Tom gordon says county cops will supplement Wilmington Police on patrol. This comes on the heels of city leaders last year declaring Violent Crime a disease. They are asking for federal funds for programs. This week the governors new Public SafetyStrategy Commission meets for the first time. All steps on a long path that joy brown thinks will produce a journey with no destination. Theres a lot of people that have had good suggestions and to know avail none of them really work, its sad to say. But i dont see any relief for it. Five minutes past 6 00 right now, today a man accused of shooting and killing a man over a pair of headphones goes to trial. Arthel garcia was 19 when arrested and charged with murder. Police in november of 2013 say Christian Matthew was walking to a friends house in overbrook, philadelphia, when garcia tried to steal his headphones. Matthew refused to hand them over and garcia shot him in the chest. Today hundreds of protesterses from the area will join a statewide push in pennsylvania to raise the minimum wage. A group called raise the wage pa will carry a bus load of supporters from philadelphia to harrisburg this morning. They are calling on lawmakers to increase the minimum wage from 7. 25 an hour to 10 across the state. Now to the atlantic casino crisis, a hearing today in camden could determine if the sale of revel will go through. The emergency motions from revels utility supplier and form business tenants will be heard in court this afternoon. The 95 million sale was supposed to go through today but a judge delayed it in order to deal with the issues. Just yesterday we learned the florida developer who wants to buy revel who has been threatening to back out of the sale if it didnt go through on time says hes willing to extend the sale deadline to the end of this month. Unfortunately, the temperature has been falling as well. Light rainfall in reading at 33 degrees. Its really not a huge problem, but thats just that one location. Not far away it will be at or below freezing. So that rain could be icing up this morning. In fact, i expect it is. Right now philadelphia is getting a break from the rain. Look at the freezing rain falling in trenton, 29 degrees. And a look at the icy view from the pocano mountains where we have been watching freezing rain from the getgo this morning in the pocano mountains. Its continuing from scranton to some of the mountains into the Lehigh Valley and into extreme eastern burkes county upper montgomery and bucks county seeing freezing rain. Theres the freezing rain in trenton expected to fall on your car. It is ice covered if sitting outside. And other surfaces that are untreated may also have a layer of ice on them as well. We have seen some freezing rain in philadelphia taking a break right now, but check it out. Theres more wet weather on the way. Even though this is rain its moving in to an area that is already cold enough. So as it comes down it will be freezing up. Chester spring Kenneth Square below freezing. Its getting colder there in Washington Township 29 degrees. Each of these locations are at risk for freezing rain and icing this morning. Pottstown, 31. Temperatures will be Holding Steady throughout the day today. Look at Atlantic City and the airport, the warmer temperatures shouldnt be a problem just yet. But they will be falling during the day today. And some locations and the rest of the area will see on off freezing rainfall ending as sleet and snow. So its an issue during the day today. And then tomorrow we will be drying up. 41 degrees is the afternoon high. After clouds start to break, well see more sunshine with a good wind. Sunshine on wednesday, up to 37 degrees. Then a wintry mix is possible on thursday as we head toward the weekend where its going to get cold. Really cold. A bitter blast will arrive on friday. Just about 6 10 this monday morning. We have a very fine light glaze of ice on a lot of the cars. And depending on where you are, you may need the ice scraper when you wake up this morning. But well show you we are out here along welsh road with some of the trees as we start to see a little bit of ice forming, but we have the main roads that dont look too bad right now. I just want to show you right over here you can see we are at this parking lot here where it stays 32 degrees. We are right at the freezing mark here in this area. Its not an official temperature, but of course this is what were experiencing throughout the area. You can see the drivers here taking it easy and slow. Out here in this parking lot, we did see a few drops of salt out here. So this is appearing to be treated, but some of the parking lots we have been in this morning have been very slick. So heading out to your driveway or walkways be careful and watch your step. With the rain coming down it can ice over and freeze on the surfaces especially throughout the day. For now we are live in Huntington Valley matt delucia, nbc 10 news. Police in Atlantic County are searching for a driver whose car clipped a man walking along the highway. This happened on the shoulder of route 9 in Galloway Township on saturday night. The driver hit the victim and then kept going. The man suffered injuries to his upper body and head. Police are looking for a white ford fusion or mercury milan. They believe the model year is between 2008 and 2010. The vehicle may have a missing passengerside mirror and other damage along the passenger side. Officials at a mall in western pennsylvania are cracking down on unaccompanied minors after three people were shot this weekend. The Monroeville Mall in Allegheny County says anyone under the age of 18 has to be with a parent or guardian on friday and saturday nights. This comes after investigators say a 17yearold shot three people inside the macys at the mall on saturday night. Police arrested the gunman. Two of the victims are still in critical condition. 6 16 and 29 degrees. Police say a sadistic selfie led them to the arrest of a boy who killed another. A selfie of the suspect and the boy he shot was sent to a friend. Police are charging him with murder as an adult. And this fire started on friday and ripped across more than 7,000 acres in california forcing hundreds of people from their homes. Right now the fire is about 65 contained. And a former actress steps forward with new allegations against bill cosby. Helen gumbel claims cosby made sexual gestures towards her on the set of the cosby show. He is facing allegations from 15 women and denies the allegations and has not been charged with the crime. The 77yearold canceled two comedy shows in boston because of winter weather. And a publicist for bruce jenner says the reality tv star was not texting at the time of a deadly accident in malibu. Jenner was also an olympic Gold Medalist and was driving one of four vehicles involved in saturdays crash. Investigators are expected to ask all the drivers to hand in their phones as they work to figure out what triggered the crash. Jenner released a statement saying quote, my heart felt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones and to all of those who were involved or injured in this terrible accident. It is a devastating tragedy and i cannot pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time. I am praying for them. I will continue to cooperate in every way possible end quote. A philadelphia couple is celebrating their marriage this morning after tying the knot on the love train. Neil santos and Andrew Wilson boarded the septa train yesterday and took trains on a ride to steve powells love top septa line. The wedding celebrated the fiveyear anniversary of the love letter project along with Marriage Equality in pennsylvania. This is what to expect as you go out the door this morning for much of the area as we have been spotting some light rain from the pocano mountains to the Lehigh Valley into montgomery and bucks county. Upper bucks county is getting light rainfall this mo. And Lower Bucks County trenton and Burlington County we are starting to taper off for now in philadelphia. Thats temporary. Theres more wet weather on the way. And theres more potential for freezing rain more ice is on the way this morning and this afternoon. The temperature is now 31 degrees for pottstown philadelphia, northeast philly. Look at the 20s now. Thats a little bit colder than it was when i first started to see this come down. Westchester, 31 degrees. 29 in glenmoore. Theres plenty of cold air with the rain moving in on and off throughout the day. Expect icy conditions. Untreated surfaces will see a layer of ice on them.
