To an east wind its going to be a very cloudy day with some showers getting in here around midday into early afternoon. So youll need your rain gear today. Ken over to you. Heather thank you. We are following a breaking store in new jersey. A Police Officer interrupted a gas station robbery in newark and shot a man in the chest. Eyewitness News Reporter kala rama is live on the scene. She has the latest for us. Kala good morning. Reporter ken i literally just walked out of this gas station here. The 24 7 food mart talking to the cashiers about what happened. Take a look, we were inside and these cashiers tell me that they just after midnight, two place. One had a mask carrying a gun. The other suspect was basically a lookout. And he was wandering around the store acting very nervous. Well, a third worker in the gas station saw what was happening and ran outside and flagged down an officer. That on duty officer went in at the right time. The armed robber had just gotten some cash and was jumping over the counter with a gun in his hand. The officer tried to stop him and thats when the suspect was shot. Lets listen to one what one of the cashiers said about how this went down. He jumped and i had him. So knocked me the officer came in at the right time. And shot him. Reporter so just lo at the time you know all to let you know theres a camera just within those doors here. And police have taken that Surveillance Video to review. We know that the suspect was shot in the chest. He was taken to the hospital in Critical Condition. The second suspect here was also arrested. He was not injured and the officer was not injured. But is at the hospital which is protocol anytime an officer discharges their weapon. Rama, channel 7 Eyewitness News. Thank you. And developing this morning, veterans day violence inside a new york city bar. Police are on the hunt now for at least one soldier who slashed a marine. Eyewitness News Reporter mallory hoff is live now on the east side with more. Mallory . Reporter lori, witnesses say all of this started when a marine noticed a group of soldiers who were drinking in uniform and then told them they were a disgrace for drinking while in uniform. Take a look at this video from last night. You can see just how chaotic things were outside of this bar. It was around 7 45 at turtle bay nyc bar, a group of soldiers indown form were drinking uniform were drinking inside of the bar. The 35yearold marine who is not actively searching approached this group. This situation escalated very quickly and spilled out on to the street. The marine was then slashed in the shoulder. The soldiers ran away very quickly after the fight. We spoke what woman who was inside the after with a woman who was inside the car when the chaos erupted. I guess it happened so quickly. When you opened up the windows you see the cops and ambulance coming around can then ticking the gosh and then taking the guy and then taking the guy that got stabbed in the back and thats it. Reporter were told the suspect was wearing Army Fatigues when all of this took place. No arrests have been made this morning. Meanwhile, we have learned that marine was kept in the hospital overnight but he is expected to be okay. Live in the east side, mallory hoff. Channel 7 Eyewitness News. All right thank you very much mallory. 4 35. And this morning investigators are trying to determine exactly what sparked a gas explosion in new jersey. That left one person dead and several hurt and dozens of people out of a place to live. Crews are digging through the wreckage of the duplex on magnolia avenue in elizabeth, new jersey. That blast seen on very seance video was caused by natural gas on the second floor just before 8 00 yesterday morning. One man got killed and two people including an 11yearold girl were critically hurt. Several other people were trapped under the debris. I got out and looking at the guy next door to the window. He yelling. Come on, come on. He looking at the house and seeing how you seeing the second floor and the first floor. And [ inaudible ] now the red cross is working with dozens of people who were forced from their homes by that blast. Officials say at least two homes have to be demolished. But all of the homes on the block have to now undergo inspections. Happening today the suspect is set to be sentenced on a different charge. Tyrone howard is one of 20 defendants in a 2013 drug case. Prosecutors say that he was caught with nearly three dozen bags of crack cocaine in east harlem. Last month, howard was indicted in the murder randolph holder. The detective holder was killed responding to a call of gunshots at the east river houses. Weve learned overnight that at least two people are in custody for laser attacks on several local news helicopters. Newscopter 7 was over elizabeth last night when a laser was pointed at the pilot and reporter shannon stone. The crew alerted police. Now one person is in custody and being questioned by the fbi. A similar laser attack also happened to w nbcs helicopter last night in brooklyn. And that case, 20yearold osil silva was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment. Time is 4 37 and a man who was spent who has spent more than a third of his high in prison for stealing trains and buses is facing a whole new load of charges this morning. Yeah, Police Arrested Darius Mccollum in park slope, brooklyn. For the Greyhound Bus he allegedly stole from the Port Authority bus terminal in midtown. Mccollum who has been diagnosed with aspergers syndrome has a prior history of 29 similar incidents. His first arrest dates back to and operated an etrain in manhattan. He has this boyish love for powerful engines. And trains and cars and buses. And little to no understanding about money or property. And its sort of like were just arresting this large boy who loves trains and doesnt get that its wrong to take them. Well, mccollum who is now 50 has spent a total of 18 years behind bars. Hes due in court today. Time is 4 38. New york will give patients with certain serious illnesses faster access to medical marijuana. Even though the full state program not yet up and running. Governor cuomo signed legislation to speed access for people facing degenerative diseases. And the threat of Serious Health risks. States full program is expected to be operational come january. Subway riders will soon be able to access wifi at more stops. Today, transit officials and Wireless Companies theyll meet at Yankees Stadium to celebrate the latest phase at new york city subway stations. 37 additional subway stations are rolling out Better Service to subway riders. Yesterday we kind of had a nice ening kind of evening kind of comfortable with some clouds and breaks of sun yesterday afternoon but now we have showers coming here to around State College and heres the front itself and its a cold front that pushes through this evening so youll see on the futurecast, our computer guidance, showers start around 10 00. Around 1 00. So noon, 1 00 today, well have these showers pushing through. And then by 4 00, theyre actually there actually might be a break of sunshine again and might be a pretty sunset. Then tonight were going to clear out. So 8 00 football weather here. Clear skies and just going to be very windy. The winds will be out of the southwest at 10 to 20 miles an hour this evening gusting to 25. Then even more so tomorrow. So we got light rain today. 60 degrees. Here comes the front. The low pushes into canada. But it really brings gusty wind hour on friday. And maybe even some gusts to 35 Miles Per Hour on saturday. So its going to be a bit of a chilly day on saturday. 50 it will feel like 40s. Strong wind gusts and 35 miles an hour. Then the wind dies down on sunday. And were at 58 degrees. So that will be the better day of the weekend as far as the real feel goes. And then look at next week. We got temperatures in the 60s. And the next shot at any rain might not be until wednesday of next week when were close to the mid 60s on wednesday. So there you go. San Francisco Police shot and killed a gunman who pointed a rifle at a hospital. Yeah, police cornered the man atop a building under construction. Right next to the hospital. His body video of his body atop the elevator. The gunman had just robbed a Sporting Goods store making off with a rifle and ammunition. Atop the construction elevator was the suspect in it appeared to be white cover alls. Holding a rifle. The rifle was directed at the hospital. Officers directed their firearms at the suspect who then lowered the rifle pointing it down below. Three officers fired. Neutralizing the suspect. Officials say the shooting started with some type of altercation near the emergency room. Its 4 48. Tensions are high at the university of missouri as protests this continue. Dozens of students this continue. Dozens of students marched through campus last night as the schools governing board met behind closed doors. The president and chancellor resigned this week. After the resignation several black students were posted on social media and a 19yearold missouri science and technology was arrested yesterday in connection with the threats and will be in court this morning. Its video from detroit thats gone viral and caused the mcdonald cost a mcdonalds worker his job. It appears a worker lured a homeless manpy offering him a free sandwich. Then he threw water only him. The video outraged the owner of the mcdonalds who fired that worker. He said he could not tolerate such behavior. Chipotle restaurants in Washington State and oregon are open again following the e. Coli scare. However no one has been able to actually pinpoint the source of the bacteria. They voluntarily closed 43 restaurants in the Pacific Northwest after 45 people were sickened and more than a dozen people went to the hospital. A pennsylvania family found an unwelcome and poisonous guest after bringing home grapes from the grocery store. They say they found a black widow spider inside the container of welchs organic grapes. No one was hurt. The store says it inspected the rest of the containers and did not find any other spiders. Welchs called the family personally and said it was not the first time this has happened because the company does not use pesticides on its organic produce. All right. And in the last 15 minutes, we got a better look inside the gas station where it all went down. Eyewitness News Reporter kala rama is live on the scene now in newark. Kala . Reporter lori, ken, good morning. We have two suspects here. One who was shot, the other under arrest after an officer stopped a robbery in progress here at the 24 7 food mart. Okay . Take a look inside. The two cashiers told me just moments ago that two robbers came in. One warmed a armed with a gun wearing a masks, the other appeared to be a lockout. One of the gas station workers was able to flag down an officer outside who came in at the right time. We were lucky. Obviously he didnt come because the robber was here you know. He came to buy something. Finally, one of my coworkers informed him about the Armed Robbery inside. Reporter moments after the officer shot that suspect in the chest, he arrested this second suspect. Every inch of the store here is covered by surveillance cameras. Investigators are now reviewing video of the incident. The Prosecutors Office is taking over this investigation. The suspect who was shot in the chest is in Critical Condition in the hospital. The officer through all of this were live in newark, kala rama, channel 7 Eyewitness News. Thank you. Dozens of people forced from their homes after a deadly explosion in new jersey. The blast happening just before 8 00 yesterday morning at a duplex on magnolia avenue in elizabeth. One person was killed and more than a dozen hurt. That include an 11yearold girl in Critical Condition. We have breaking news in newark, one robbery suspect in Critical Condition with a gunshot wound and another suspect is arrest tsz after a prefer arrested after a Police Officer fires his weapon after interrupting a robbery. Kala rama is live at the scene with the latest. Reporter were talking about two suspects, one who was shot by an officer. And the other arrested when that officer stopped a robbery in progress here at this 24 7 food mart. Take a look, this was the scene just an hour ago here. The two cashiers inside told me in the last hour that the two a gun, wearing a mask, the other appears to be the lookout. One of the gas station workers was able to flag down an officer who came right in at the right time. Listen. He stepped on the safe and jumped. And i had boom. So knocked me the officer came in at the right time. And they shot him. Reporter moments after the officer shot the suspect in the chest, he arrested the second suspect. Every inch of the store is covered by surveillance cameras so investigators are now reviewing video of the incident. The arnold suspect were told does armed suspect were told is in Critical Condition at the hospital but he is stable. The officer and all of this was not injured. And a bar fight on veterans day between a marine and a group of soldiers send that is marine to the hospital. It happened last night at the turtle bay nyc bar on the east side of manhattan. Witnesses are saying they saw a marine approach a group of Service Members who were actually drinking in uniform. And tell them that they were a disgrace for doing such a thing. Take a look at this video from around 7 45 last night. At turtle bay nyc bar, a group of soldiers in uniform were drinking inside of the bar, thats when witnesses say the 35yearold marine who is not actively serving approached the group. The situation then escalated very quickly and spilled onto the street. The marine was then slashed in the shoulder. The soldiers ran away right after the fight. We spoke with a woman who was inside the bar when the chaos erupted. I guess it happened so quickly and then when you open up the windows osteocopes and the ambulance coming you see the cops and the ambulance coming around and then taking the guy that got stabbed in the back and thats it. Reporter meanwhile, police say the suspect was wearing Army Fatigues. No arrests have been made. Were told the marine did spend the night in the hospital. But is expected to be okay. In new jersey, investigators are searching for what sparked a gas explosion that left one person dead and dozens more displaced. Officials say that its believed the blast was caused by natural gas on the second floor of the duplex. A man was killed and more than a dozen hurt in the explosion yesterday morning. Two people are in Critical Condition. Including an 11yearold girl. The red cross is working with dozens of people who were forced out of their homes. Happening today the suspect in the murder of an nypd detective is set to be sentenced on a different charge. Tyrone howard is one of 20 defendants in the 2013 drug case. Prosecutors say that he was caught with nearly three dozen harlem. Last month, howard was indicted in the murder of detective randolph holder, he was killed responding to a call of gunshots at the east river houses.
