There were problem between dr. Ford and her attorneys. They agreed to have an open hearing. They agreed there would be breaks every 45 minutes for dr. Ford that she would have dedicated security. They also agreed she would testify first and brett t kavanaugh would testify second. Dr. Ford did give in on that request. Mark judge, the other witness in the room, according to ford, will not be subpoenaed. Dr. Ford gave in on that as well. Some things that have not been agreed on is who will ask questions on the republican side. Dr. Ford would like the republican senators to ask the questions but republicans want outside counsel or staff to conduct the questioning. Thats still to be determined. They will continue to discuss that. Another thing that is still open for debate is additional outside witnesses. Mark judge will not be there. Dr. Ford would like the person who conducted the polygraph of her and two trauma experts. Another thing is how long they will have to request questions. Theres still some things that need to be worked out before this hearing on thursday. I want to you about the quality of these conversations. Im reminded of that statement we got yesterday from dr. Blasey fords attorney about how there was bully and leaking to the press. I was told theres progress and both sides view that as a good thing. Theres the back and forth of the public rhetoric that both sides are giving to press. They are still trying to play hardball but they are moving forward when talking privately. Democrat congressman adam schiff talked and called into questioning of Rod Rosenstein<\/a>. Did he aproou a wire or recommend a wire. Thats one thing. He said now he doesnt see a basis. This has led to questions about the deputys future. Rod rosenstein calls it false and without merit. I dont know rod pretty well and i have hard time ploobeliev that rod, hes a careful guy. This was a careful, cautious prosecutor. Former governor Chris Christie<\/a> there. Youre a u. S. Attorney. Rod rosenstein was a u. S. Attorney as well. How did you react knowing him as a colleague in the Justice Department<\/a> . I did get to know Rod Rosenstein<\/a>. I have great deal of respect for him. I think hes a very by the book kind of guy. Its very prizing to me. I dont know the facts but it does not sound like something that Rod Rosenstein<\/a> would do. I know that people are capable of doing things outside of their character all the time. He is, as you heard in that clip, hes very cautious. Hes very by the book. Hes very much a law and order person. It doesnt strike me as true. Something that was said . Gist, perhaps. Even that strikes me as a bit not credible. I could imagine if someone suggested wearing a wire, he might have made a joke about why that woz a bad idea or what do you want me to do, wear a wire. That sort of thing. Doesnt ring true. Its one of their prime vices because they are not allowed many others. Thats a distinct possibility. For Rod Rosenstein<\/a>, it will make no difference as to his job security because its the president s perrogative to hire and fire him. Hes been on the job for two weeks. A lot had happened. How much interest of that to you . The environment surrounding this is important as well. Yeah, the reporting talks about it was a time when he was feeling very emotional. Even that part doesnt ring that true. He may have felt he had been hung out to dry by the president. Rod has been around government for a very long time. I think he knows what hes in for. Dealing with the president the likely caused many people in government to see things they havent seen before. He is someone who is been tested. Hes certainly got a thick skin and i dont imagine he is someone that would react emotionally or would be in a volatile state as described there. People get upset. People get angry. Lets not conflate the larger Metoo Movement<\/a> with what did or did not happen in the summer of 1982 that was not spoken about for the First Time Ever<\/a> in 2012. Lets not conflate this allegation with the larger Metoo Movement<\/a>. I wonder if you object to her using the term conflate . I would object. Theres a dangerous nar tirativ this is not the Metoo Movement<\/a>. It was millions of people who made it go viral. They were talking their experiences through the years with Sexual Violence<\/a>. So many of the people who said metoo were talking about things that happened when they were 15 and never told. This is exactly what the Metoo Movement<\/a>. I want you to respond to that. So many people have been involved in this. Whats the import of one story like this one even when that is attracting so much attention . Her story is important because it underscores exactly what we have been going through for the last year. So many people have been forgotten because the media has pivoted to talk about mainstream people in hollywood who have been taken down. They have categorized the movement as a movement to take down powerful men when its a Movement Like<\/a> dr. Blasey ford and their stories. The movement has changed behaviors. Im seen some criticism of this whole process about the way he purported himself within the movement. He has emphasised him as a family man. He emphasised hi coach eed he c Girls Basketball<\/a> team to appeal in this movement, in this moment. Your reaction to that. Theres preachers and teachers and coaches and up standing citizens, if you will who commit acts of Sexual Violence<\/a> every day. Who he has been in the last few years as a family man and a coach and all those things have nothing to do with who he was at 17 years old, drunk in a room with dr. Blasey ford. How important is this moment, is this hearing going to be for you . I saw an executive Vice President<\/a> from planned parenthood who opposed this from the beginning. How much import are you ascribing to that . I think its very important. Its not just about the last two years. The world is watching america. The people who vote are watching. Its been 27 years since anita hill. We need to see theres a difference understanding about Sexual Violence<\/a>. We need to see they know how to approach and handle issues of Sexual Violence<\/a> in a very different way. Were going to be watching to see exactly what they do and were going to respond accordingly . How much have you been thinking about that hearing for more than 25 years ago . The hearing that took place in 1991 with anita hill . Its hard not to compare. I was a freshman in college during the hearings of anita hill. I was young, in my movement work. It was very, very it left a mark on me to watch what happened, to watch her go through that process, to see her not be largely supported. This really does harken back to that time. Its so frustrating to see that in all of this time even to have the same people involved in the Judiciary Committee<\/a> is really i dont know. Missouri is interesting to look at mccaskill who came out about the allegations against kavanaugh. She talked about dark money and the fact that kavanaugh is the kind of judge who would allow even more dark money into our politics. Just basically a unifying issue in missouri. One of the reasons i thought this was interesting is because from what i see on the ground and among pretty much every woman i run into, including republican women, they are very weary of kavanaugh. Back in 2012 kavanaugh ran against aiken and it shows how far weve fallen, that trumps own record of Sexual Assault<\/a> could not be disqualifying. The political culture has shifted and not just in missouri. Its nationwide. We talk a lot about suburban republican women and how they might be swayed to vote for democrats. I think every place is a combination of different voter blocks. Its unwise to focus on one. I do think women are fed up. Its not necessarily something that will translate directly into support or nonsupport of a political candidate because every candidate is complex. For example if youre prolife that might be your issue and you may be bothered by these allegations but you still may vote for them. I think women are fed up. I think people are fed up. I think in addition to looking at voter blocks and krcandidate we need to look at the structure of our voter system. Due the effect of the partial repeal of the vra, due to russian interference and due to a gop acting as if they want to become a one party state. Those are issues we need to be considering because i do think the democrats have a strong chance if it is a free and fair election. I do not know if in fact that will be the case. Lets spend the remainder of the time looking at the fractures from the republican party. There was an ad out of arizona this weak. Lets play a little of what that ad looks like.
