What a good morning to be moving around, lots going on out there today, cheri. That is correct, diane, the the buzz is here as you can see thousands have begun to Congress Great in front of the Art Museum Steps for aid walk philly. The walk itself will begin around 9 00 a. M. Right now people are on the stage, reading the names of the individuals, who have lost their lives, to hiv and aids, and we also have groups, that have have set up stations here. These are the organizations that will benefit from the money raised here today, the hundreds of thousands of dollars this will be generate todd help raise awareness about hiv and aid. One of the organizations that are here keeping the fighting on is philadelphia fight, and we got these, we will talk about this. Im here with jay shaw, executive director of the philadelphia fight. Now what is this, what are the red gloves for. Well, were philadelphia fight so we wanted to keep the fighting to end this epidemic. And, we have been out here, you know, year after year many years but we feel like were winning. Reporter yes, so talk about it. Twentyfive years, this is the the anniversary. Tell me what is the biggest challenge dealing will with hiv and aid because some people think it is over, the epidemic is over. Well, the epidemic is not over. In some ways the biggest challenge is getting a cross to people one, that there is effective treatments that they can live a normal life with hiv but people are still scared and they do not come into care but secondly there is a a way to prevent hiv now, it the is called prep. It stand for preex exposure pro faux lacks is. Take one pill once a day and you wont get aid. Two or three weeks ago the World Health Organization and u. N. One of the 22 organizations had that it will benefit is bobashi and im standing here with gary bell, executive director of bobashi, they are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year. Why exact liz was your organization founded, gary. Our organization was founded in 1985 to a address hiv in urban communities especially of people with color because there was no one else doing it at this time. Reporter the the statistics say that 83 percent of the recent h iv an aid cases are latino and african americans. What are you doing to get that number done. We have partners. We cannot be every where. We need to use churches, community organizations, we need to use fraternal organizations, anyone we can get to partner with to get the most age out. Reporter other thing we talked about is the fact that youth are among the new cases, how are you targeting them. Well, youth as you know are vulnerable. They dont think they can get sick or worry bit. We have to meet them where they are, get where they are and we have to use social media and music. Reporter wonderful. So that is a big part of today, as you look around, the the folks are very young. His shots with him, he hit a classroom. Reporter in a Facebook Posting mints recalls the day he says started out as normal but quickly descended in to chaos. He writes there was bunch of yelling and there were gunshots going off that sounded like firecrackers. The mints, who sat in the front of the class says everyone got up, and took off. I stopped, hell the door opened and waited for everyone to leave safely he writes, he then says he took direction from the counselor that kept screaming, someone needed to tell the people in the library, and i told her i would do it. Somebody is outside one of the doors shooting through the doors. Reporter mints writes that he made his way back into the the classroom area, where he came facetoface with the gunman. He leaned out and started shooting as i turned towards him, he recalled, this is how he described the shooter. He was so nonchal ant as if he were playing a video game and showed noe motion. Mints says the the shots knocked him to the ground and felt like a truck hit him. He said he was shot again while on the ground and gunman says that is what you get for calling the cops. Mints writes in the Facebook Post that he told the gun man that he didnt call police and they were already on the way, he then yelled to the gun man, it is my kid birthday, man, mints said the shooter pointed the gun right at my face and then retreated, back into the classroom.
