Reporter a group of parents, teachers, and students rallied before the public hearing, their message that the petition to divide the mount diablo School District would hurt communities. My concern is the level of diversity we would have in those schools and also the access that our students would have to the various programs that are currently districtwide. The meeting was packed as both sides argue their cases before the committee in charge of School District organizations. We want something better. Members of northgate, the Community Advocacy for public schools, say they have been trying for some three decades to have more local control over schools and childrens education. Mount diablo has 302000 students, covers 150 square miles. Its too big to be accountable. The petition proposes creating a new northgate unified School District shown in red by pulling out five schools. We do not support carving out five schools from our School District because we believe students will lose services, parents will have to pay more money, and teachers will not have the same support. Opponents say the proposal would remove the most affluent part of the district and say it could create socioeconomic and ethnic segregation. Petitioners say the district is running a 30 million budget deficit and does not provide a good education. The judge has set a sentencing date of july 14th. 4 37. Fire investigators now know what caused one of last summers big wildfires. Authorities say the sherpa fire was an accident. They say a man was burning a log in his fireplace when the wind blew smoke out of the fireplace and into his home. Investigators say the man said he carried the burning log outside and used water from a faucet to put out the flames, but the embers from the burning log dropped onto the ground and ignited grass. The fire quickly spread. Eventually it burned 11. 5 square miles. No homes were destroyed. It took four weeks to fully control that fire. Donations are already pouring in after vandals destroyed a snack shack near a baseball field at a san jose high school. The shack was a parting gift from Tanner Robson who graduated last year. A fire station in eastern Contra Costa County will be forced to close down just as the fire season heats up. Fire district Officials Say they dont have enough money to keep the fire station open. It will close at the end of next month. That will mean there are just three fire stations to cover 250 square miles from the border to the marsh creek and Morgan Territory areas. Firefighters will be transferred to the other fire stations, but it is a serious concern for people who rely on the contra costa fire crews for medical and fire related emergencies. This will be the second time in recent memory that the fire station is closed. In 2015, voters rejected a utility tax measure that would have raised money to keep the station open permanently. Aaa has rolled out a new Car Sharing Service in the east bay. It offers a fleet of those black previous.
