Reporter seven people injured after someone opens fire on a crowded San Francisco street last night. What police are doing to try to track down the shooter. Most of it is gonna be under the speed limit, although it does get heavy in richmond and here in berkeley. At the bay bridge toll plaza, we have a backup thats about 30 to 40 minutes actually, the backup is about 30 minutes but the drive time is closer to 40 when you take into account how long it will take to you cross that bridge. San jose, we zoomed into the stretch of 85 in the last report. I want to back off a little bit if i can here and look at the entire valley. You can see that 85 and 101 are slow. 280 is still looking pretty good, despite some slow traffic at highway 17. Back to the desk. Thank you, sal. And breaking news. Malaysias Prime Minister has just spoken. He said that according to new data, flight mh370 ended in the southern indian ocean and there are no survivors. This is more than two weeks after the plane took off. The families of the 279 people on board, the people who were on board that plane, have been informed. This all is occurring as chinese and australian planes have spotted several objects in the area of the southern indian ocean identified by multiple satellite images containing possible debris from the flight and an Australian Navy supply ship is on the scene right now trying to locate and recover some of the objects. The defense minster says that ship could reach them within the next few hours. Well stay on top of all of this and well have more coming up at 7 30. At 7 04. Seven people are shot after a fight in San Franciscos tenderloin neighborhood. Ktvus alex savidge is live at turk and taylor streets. Alex, you have new cell phone video of the moments right after the shooting. Reporter yes, good morning to you. There were quite a few people out here. Some of them did capture what happened after this shooting. Someone opened fire last night into a crowd of people as they were standing in front of these two markets here across the street from us at turk and taylor. The window, you can see at this store was shattered by a bullet. Heres the cell phone video posted online. It shows victims down on the ground. This shooting happened before 9 00 last night. And seven people were hit by gunfire, all of them transported to San Francisco general. Most of those victims, were struck in the arms and legs. Everyone shot is expected to survive. Now, police cant say at this point, what the motive was for the shooting. But investigators say it began with a fight of some kind and then someone pulled a gun. The shooter was able to get away in a car. Police, though, dont have a description on that person they are looking for this personning. But what investigators morning. But what investigators have been doing is going over Surveillance Video from the various businesses and buildings here in the tenderloin trying to get a good look at the person involved, the person doing the shooting that opened fire into a crowd of people and left seven of them wounded. We are learning the identity of the man shot and killed by police in a San Francisco park. Officials say 28yearold alejandro was shot and killed by police at Bernal Heights park. Saufers say they were called to the officers say they were called to the park on reports of a gun being reported and shot him when the man pointed the gun at them. Greg suhr is expected to speak about this at a town hall meeting earlier this week. The San Jose Police officer accused of raping a woman while he was on duty is due in court. Investigators say officer jeffrey graves responded to an argument between a husband and a wife on september 22nd. The wife was taken to a local hotel to spend the night. Investigators say after dropping her off, officer graves went back to the hotel and allegedly raped her. Hes facing charges of sexual harassment. 7 07. The california dmv is warning customers about a potential Security Breach for credit card users. Ktvus janine de la vega joins us live from the dmv in los gatos to tell us what we should look out for. Good morning, janine. Reporter good morning. People just started showing up at this dmv office in los gatos. You know, one of these customers told me that she tried to renew her dmv registration online. She couldnt. So shes coming here in person to do that. This breach affects customers who use their credit cards online. The dmv says it was alerted by Law Enforcement with the online credit card processing service. The dmv maintains while theres no evidence of a direct breach into the Computer System is it is lawn offing an investigation. The launching an investigation. It is reportedly related to credit Card Transactions made online between august 2013 through january of 2014. I just renewed my registration and i didnt know that happened. It would would that have changed my course of action . Honestly, probably not. That may be foolish. I acknowledge that but im just being honest. Reporter because its convenient . Because i want to get my registration paid. Reporter the dmvs is cooperating. The agency is reviewing the systems and investigating the outside vendor that processes credit Card Transactions and the Credit Card Companies itself. Eight people have died so far. 18 people still missing near seattle after a massive landslide over the weekend. A fire chief says there are no signs of life coming from that landslide site. Saturdays landslide leveled almost a square mile of Snohomish County. Its blamed from all of the heavy rainfall. At least six homes were destroyed. 16 others were damaged. The price of Flood Insurance, going up quickly for most californians who live near riversers, creekses and the ocean creeks and the ocean. San rafael suffered serious flooding in recent years. The federal government had helped to pay some of the insurance cost. However, the National Flood Insurance Program is deep in debt and the government is cutting its subsidies. Today, well get a close look at the first phase of demolition for the old eastern span of the bay bridge. Crews will start cutting and separating the mid span of the old bridge for the last few months. Many drivers have seen a big difference as crews start to bring down the span. The entire demolition is expected to last for three years. A temporary entrance to the bay bridge bike path that cost 9. 4 million to build is now being torn down after less than seven months of being opened. Thats according to the chronicle. The halfmile long connector is being torn down to make way for a permanent entrance to the bike path. They wanted to make sure that the bikers and walkers were able to get on the bay bridge by labor day. But now that ramp has to be reworked. Its scheduled to reopen on march 30th. A vallejo teenager now facing charges of dui and vehicular manslaughter after a horrifying crash in san leandro over the weekend. The headon crash happened late saturday night on east 14th street near davis. Police say 19yearold Jesus Antonio godinez was speeding and was driving drunk. 32yearold man was killed. Another person was hurt. They believe the teenager swerved into oncoming traffic. 7 14. Were learning more about the man accused of shooting and killing a Mendocino County sheriffs deputy after a crime spree that started in oregon. The register guard reports Ricardo Anthony chaney was in jail in eugene, oregon, two weeks before the shooting after police had found drugs and a gun in his car. But he was released due to a lack of evidence. Police believe chaney killed a former university of oregon professor after his release from jail, then carjacked a car and drove to Mendocino County. Thats where hes accused of killing del fiorentino before dying in a shootout with police. Family members will remember ricky del fiorentino this week. Del fiorentino is a graduate of napa high where he was a star wrestler and football player. The vigil will be held in fort bragg. The Memorial Service is wednesday morning. The murder trial of os Cass Pistorius is continuing right now with testimony from a Police Captain. Pistorius arrived in court this morning. The Police Captain read Text Messages sent between pistorius and his girlfriend. In it, the girlfriend said she was scared of pistorius sometimes and she called him jealous. Pistorius is accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend. Shes admitted to shooting her but he said he thought she was an intruder. A neighbor testified that she heard terrified, terrified screaming the morning of the shooting. The Senate Intelligence committee is scheduled to vote this week on whether to release key sections of a report on terrorism interrogations. The report could shed more light on interrogation tactics approved by the Bush Administration after the september 11th attacks. The cia says the report underestimates the value of interrogation techniques like waterboarding. President obama will have the final say on whether to release the findings. Happening today alaska marking the 25th anniversary of one of the worst environmental disasters. 11million gallons of oil spilled into the waters of prince Williams Sound on this day in 1989 when the exxon valdez tanker went aground. That spill contaminated 1300 miles of shoreline. It killed millions of birds, fish and other wildlife. Only 13 of the 32 species that were hurt by the spill have recovered. The anniversary of the exxon valdez spill comes as crews are cleaning up an oil spill in texas, one thats shut down a key shipping channel. The spill happened on saturday when a barge that was carrying almost a million gallons of oil collided with a ship. That spill has shut down the shipping channel that connects Galveston Bay and the gulf of mexico. Several birds have been found covered in oil. They have been taken toen to a wild take on a wildlife rehab center. We want them to be a healthy place for them to come and this is not it. Several boats have been trapped by the closure of that channel including three cruise ships. 7 17. Want to check in with sal castanedo on this monday morning. How is it looking at the bay bridge toll plaza . Well, its crowded. We havent had any major problems on the span. We havent had a lot of major problems but its still very slow. The drive time is about 40 minutes and thats including the time it will take to you cross the you to cross the bridge but most of the time will be spent waiting on the span. As we look at the commute in San Francisco, just a little while ago we were able to see it. But patchy fog now. Cant see much. Theres headlights. Its moderate. 580 coming in from the Altamont Pass to lirl, a lot of slow traffic to livermore, a lot of slow traffic hear. Then it gets better for the ride to Castro Valley and look at 880 from 238 all the way down to about stevenson where there is a minor crash. Traffic has been slow heading to fremont. If you are driving south, please give yourself extra time. Here in the south bay, northbound 101 approaching capitol expressway, there is a crash and slow traffic for southern san jose. Lets go to steve. Well, we have clear skies for some. There is a lot of fog, especially some of as sal was touching on it. Today, the fog is being squashed because of high pressure. If you are stuck in the fog, you may look up and see above it. Right in front of you it could be pretty thick. Its being enhanced because there is a cold front coming in. As you look at the bay bridge toll plaza, you can see its backed up for a good long wait even on the 880 ramp which normally isnt this bad. This is pretty fool. 45minute drive time coming into San Francisco and that includes the time you spend waiting but the time you spend across the span. This is a look at interstate 880. This commute doesnt get going until later on. You might have a chance to jump ahead. As you look at san jose, 85 is the sloatest freeway. That crash between capitol and tully is still there. 101 is held back. If you are getting on the freeway after that, its kind of acting as a natural traffic break. 880 is slow as you drive through. 580 from grant line to 680, 48 minute drive time. From high street to 580 only nine minutes. Back to the desk. We have breaking news regarding that missing plane from Malaysia Airlines that disappeared two weeks ago. Pam cook is in the newsroom with the sad announcement made 30 minutes ago. The malaysian Prime Minister just wrapped up the morning News Conference in the last halfhour. His news is not good. As planes and ships still search for debris and u. S. Technology is being brought into listen for pings from the black box, the Prime Minister announced that a new analysis of satellite data shows that the missing malaysia airplanes plunged into the southern indian ocean. Its, therefore, with deep sadness and regret that i must inform you that, according to this new data, flight mh 370 ended in the southern indian ocean. Now, shortly before making that announcement, malaysian Authorities Say they met with family members of the people on board flight 370 to let them know the latest information in the search for the plane. Fox news is reporting that relatives of the passengers were booked on charter flights to australia, not sure why. But earlier today, australian and chinese search planes spotted more objects in the southern indian ocean that have been identified as possible debris from the missing jet. Now, the u. S. Also sending a black box locater to the search area and it can pick up pings from about 20,000 feet deep. Back here at home, fire investigators in vallejo say a fire at an abandoned building, it was started by Homeless People. Brian flores live in vallejo now to tell us why some are saying this is a growing problem out there. Reporter good morning. Its unfortunate. Its also unfortunate that you see a lot of scenes behind me, a lot of these abandoned buildings. Some of them, from what people were saying, were started from Homeless People trying to stay warm or even starting barbecues about how this fire possibly started. Want to go to new video. This was just moments ago. More than 12 hours after this fire originally started, vallejo fire crews were still hear pouring water on this ooshed building. This fire started before 5 00 near california and sonoma boulevard in vallejo. Fire investigators confirm it did start at a nearby homeless encampment and spread near the building. One person who lives right next door, believes seven people started a barbecue and somehow the fire got out of control. We have no information how it got started. Every fire engine from vallejo, and benicia and American Canyon responded to this fouralarm fire. Firefighters say this fire was difficult to battle because of several tires left behind as well as the buildings location at an alleyway near california and sonoma boulevard. Firefighters in vallejo say homeless fires have become a disturbing trend in recent weeks. With the economy we have several buildings that are vacant and we have homeless that are frequenting them. They are basically trying to find shelter themselves, and they are habiting these buildings and other vacant buildings. Empty lot, people throw garbage, everything. Reporter this is the second fire tied to a homeless encampment in the second month. This is video of a fire a few blocks away from here. Vallejo fire investigators say this fire started from a home less encampment. They say the people were just trying to stay warm when they lost control of the fire. Back out here live, we spoke to another Business Owner who said theyve complained to the city for weeks. But unfortunately, city officials and police have done nothing about it. In terms of this fire, nobody was hurt and it took about an hour to put it out. Back to you. Police in palo alto arrested a man accused of sexually harassing a woman. The man was arrested on thursday. The alleged victim said he offered to trim the trees at her home on chaning avenue. She told him no. She said he offered to help her with other things around the home. She told him know again for a second time. Eventually, he goes and he keeps sitting in his car and he keeps looking into the house. And he wont leave. The alleged victim said he was also taking photos through her windows. Now, after he did leave, she gave police his Business Card. The police set up a sting operation and later arrested him when he showed up. 7 38. San Leandro Police are investigating a driveby shooting that injured two people. It happened at 6 00 yesterday evening at via carmen and via bane na vista buena vista park. Police say the people shot were targeted and it was not random. Police have not released details about a motive nora car involved nora car involved. Nor a car involved. A week ago, sue sand and her motherinlaw were killed when a susan and her mother inlaw were killed when a vehicle crashed. The man driving the truck is accused of being high on marijuana and also was using his cell phone while driving. A Small Business in the east bay will have to pay a hefty price after an atm was stolen. Workers at the Farm Bureau Market in concord say someone broke in just before 5 00 yesterday morning and ripped the atm right from the wall. There was not a lot of money in it but repairing the damage could cost 5,000. There wasnt even that much money in there. 500, 600, you are gonna do that much damage . Another atm was taken from a gas station in walnut creek on march 10th. Supporters of a soda tax in San Francisco, they plan to make their case tonight at a town hall meeting. Some supervisors want to put a measure osh the ballot that would on the ballot that would charge a tax on the soda. Supporters say that would generate 30 million a year and would go to Childrens Health initiatives. But critics say the tax raises the cost of living for consumers and it hurts local businesses. Californias drought has sparked a new push to create and expand reservoirs. California has suffered through its third relatively dry weather in a row dry Winter Weather in a row. The debate goes on, though, over who is gonna pay for projects. Because of the drought about 12 million salmon will get a truck ride to boost their survival rates. Officials say the Sacramento River is too low to provide enough food and protection the salmon from predators. This morning, San Francisco police are investigating a shooting that injured seven people. This is where someone opened fire into a crowd of people as they were standing in front of these two markets. You can see a lot of the surveillance cameras in the area. Let me show you cell phone video posted online that shows victims on the ground of the it happened just before 9 00. Seven people were hit by gunfire. All of them transported to San Francisco general. Most victims struck in their arms and legs. Police cant say what the motive was. But it began with a fight of some kind. Someone pulled a gun. The shooter got away in a car. But the police have not been able to put out a description of anyone they are looking for. Seven people injured. All are expected to live. The 28yearold was shot and killed at Bernal Heights park friday night. Police say they were called to the park on a report of a man with a gun and opened fire when the man pointed the gun at them. Greg suhr is expected to talk about this shooting at a town hall meeting earlier this week. The San Jose Police officer accused of raping a woman while he was on duty is due in court. Investigators say officers jeffrey graves responded to an argument between a husband and a wife on september 22nd. The wife tassicen to was taken to a local hotel to spend the night. Investigators say after dropping her off, officer graves went back to the hotel and raped her. Hes facing charges of alleged sexual a raurmt. Eight people have died and 18 people are still missing in seattle after a massive landslide this weekend. A fire chief said there are no signs of life coming from the site. Saturdays landslide leveled almost a square mile of Snohomish County and its blamed on the heavy rainfall. At least six homes were destroyed and 16 others were damaged. The price of Flood Insurance may shoot up for most californians who live near rivers, creeks and the ocean. Flood insurance helped rebuild capitola of a this culvert collapsed three years ago during heavy rains. San rafael is another community that suffered through flooding in recent years. The federal government helped to pay some of the insurance costs but the National Flood Insurance Program is deep in debt and they are cutting subsidies. If you have gone to the dmv lately, you may want to check your credit card activity. The dmv is checking possible security issues. Some of the customers you see here werent aware of the potential Security Breach. They are eager to find out more information. The dmv says it is looking into credit Card Transactions customers made online. Law enforcement agencies alerted the dmv about the potential breach of the processing services. The dmv said theres no evidence of a district breach but it is launching an investigation to be on the safe side. The potential breach is related to transactions made between august of 2013 and january of 2014. One customer told us shes kerred about the possible concerned about the possible breach because her credit card was already compromised several months ago when target was hacked. My card was actual you why the security was breached on it with target and they had to send me out another debit card. Whether or not theres anything that we as a public can do about that, i think its more about the regulations on the individual companies and organizations. Children at a Santa Rosa Elementary School will be visited today by specially trained comfort dogs following a car crush that killed one of their music teachers. A week ago ago, susan and her mother were killed when a truck crashed into her husbands camry on highway 12. The man driving the truck is accused of being highed on marijuana and use high on marijuana and using his cell phone while driving. Were finding out more about the man accused of shooting and killing a Mendocino County sherr deputy. The register guard reports that Ricardo Anthony chaney was in jail in oregon two weeks before the shooting after Police Found Drugs and a gun in his car. He was released because of a lack of evidence. Police believe Ricardo Anthony chaney killed a professor after being released and then carjacked a car and then drove to Mendocino County. Thats where he is accused of killing deputy ricky del fiorentino before chaney was killed in a shootout with fort bragg police. Fire crews remain on scene. Theyve been here all night long. Take a look at the damage to this abandoned building that caught on fire yesterday afternoon. You see the windows blown out there. The roof has also collapsed. This building that did catch on fire yesterday afternoon. Want to go to the video. The first emergency calls came in before 5 00 yesterday afternoon. Originally it was reported as a grass fire. This used to be an auto shop near california and sonoma boulevard. Fire investigators confirm it did start from a nearby homeless encampment. Neighbors and nearby Business Owners say groups of 7 to 20 Homeless People would stay at the abandoned building. Some starting fires to keep warm. Sometimes often barbecuing food as well. One person says its been like for about a month. One Business Owner said the building has been abandoned for a couple of years. Several years ago, this building was a restaurant called the china barn from the 1950s to the 1980s. We spoke with a former employee who says she remembers when the area and building had better times. Working there, my my parents did the cooking and, you know, my brothers and sisters and i all worked there. With the economy, we have several buildings in the area that are vacant and we have homeless that are frequently frequenting them. They are trying to find shelter themselves to stay owl of the building. They are habiting these buildings and vacant homes throughout the city. New developments now on the search for a Malaysia Airlines flight, flight 370. Pam cook is in the studio with the sad announcement that just came out this morning. The malaysian Prime Minister wrapped up his morning News Conference with new information in the anal little sis of where the analysis of where the plane may be. The Prime Minister said new satellite data shows that the missing malaysian plane plunged into the southern indian ocean. This is new annal alist annally sis and has analysis. Based on the new analysis, its been concluded that that mh370 flew along the southern corridor and that its last position was in the middle of the indian ocean. Shortly before making that announcement, malaysian Authorities Say they met with family members with the people on board flight 370 and that paramedics were staning by standing by to assist them. Earlier today, australian and chinese search planes spotted more objects in the southern indian ocean that have been identified as possible debris from the missing jet. A Palo Alto Police sting, it led to the arrest of a man who they say repeatedly sexually harassed a woman. 20yearold carlos benezez was arrested on thursday. The alleged victim told ktvu he offered to trim the trees at her home on chaning avenue. She told him no. But he refused to leave and sat outside of her home in his car. Then she says he came back and made repeated sexual suggestions. He starts commenting on my looks and how im dressed provocatively. Police say the man was also taking photos of the woman through her windows. They say he did leave his Business Card with the woman so they used that Business Card to set up a meeting and it laker arrested him and later arrested him. San Lorenzo Police are investigating a driveby shooting that injured two people. It happened around 6 00 yesterday evening at via carmen and via buena vista. Thats close to san lorenzo park. Police say it was not a random shooting and both victims were targeted. Theyve not released any details about a motive or the type of car they are looking for. Investigators say the train jumped off the tracks earlier this morning onto the platform and then up and escalator while pulling into the Ohare International airport station. I can tell you that San Francisco Police Officers have been out here all morning long maintaining a presence out here where the shooting happened last night. Just across the street is where someone opened fire into a crowd last night, a crowd of people they are standing in front of the markets and seven people were hit by gunfire. Were near turk and taylor. You can see a lot of cameras. Investigators are going over Surveillance Video from stores and buildings near this intersection. Heres some cell phone video that was posted online overnight showing victims on the ground. The shooting happened just before 9 00 last night. Seven men were hit by gunfire all transported to San Francisco general. The hospital representative did tell me a short time ago that all of those men have been released from the hospital. Most victims were shot in their arms and legs. Police at this point cant stay what the motive but investigators say it began with a fight of some kind. And thats when someone involved in that fight pulled out a gun and began firing into the crowd. The shooter we understand got away in a car, thus far, though, police have not been able to put out a description on that person they are looking for. Farmers say the ongoing drought is raising the cost of water and they have no choice but to pass that cost onto customers.
