A secluded area and shot them. The killing appears to have been gang related and it doesnt appear as though the attack was connected to the alleged rape. It was a close call for one south bay family. A car and a light pole crashed right into their home just missing a fiveyearold boy inside. Reporter the family is grateful to be alive, but the father is upset with the driver. They said when they came out of the house, he was stumbling around and appeared to be intoxicated. The pole came crashing into the family room. It was taken out and you can see it is now sitting here in the yard. This happened just before 11 00 last night at lafayette and lewis. A husband, wife, fiveyearold son and a friend were sitting on the couch talking when they heard a crash. Then suddenly, they saw bright lights coming toward them. The front window started breaking and a light pole came crashing through. It narrowly missed hitting their fiveyearold son. The family friend grabbed the boy and jumped out of the way. It was terrifying. It happened really quickly. The easiest way we can explain it was kind of like a bomb went off right outside. All we knew was that our window was flying at us. I consider us very fortunate. Reporter when they went outside, they realized a car had also hit the home. That is what sheared off the light pole. Police arrested the man under suspicion of driving under the influence. This is the third time a car has hit the busy house. They never let their son play in the front yard, but they still plan on living here once repairs are made. Janine de la vega, fox, ktvu fox 2 news. Streets have been evacuated because of a natural gas leak. It is precautionary. The leak was reported to pg e just after 9 30 no morning. No word on what caused the leak. Right now, the socalled sherpa fire is threatening hundreds of homes and mandatory evacuations are in effect. Now, we have our meteorologist Rosemary Orozco joining us live here this morning tracking the conditions near that huge fire. Unfortunately, we are expecting the weather conditions to worsen. We are look at sun downers coming our way. Hot and dry. That will bring the humidity down to critically low levels. For today, not too bad. 75 degrees this afternoon. Relative humidity dropping 25 . And the northwesterly wind picking up to about 20 miles an hour or so. But again as we get into the weekend, saturday, more so sunday. Temperatures are expected to reach into the 90s. We are talking about a warming trend. A drying trend. Firefighters will definitely have their hands full. The wind blowing the smoke into areas like Santa Barbara and all the communities along the coastline. So air quality issues could become something they have to deal with. Reporter we are coming to you live from the unified command post. This is where an army of firefighters that is now growing to more than 1200. Their actions are coordinated both on the ground and in the air. The fire flared up again in the overnight hours for the second night in a row. The winds start picking up 5 00 in the afternoon. The first night the fire grew from about 200 acres to 1200 acres overnight. Then last night, it grew from about 1200acre to more than 4,000 acres. Now, this is rugged steep terrain. The homes are very widely scattered. It is ranch property. It is horse property. This area has a history of fire danger so people are used to evacuating. So far, there has been no loss of life and no structures lost. And, the Firefighters Want to keep it that way. With the winds forecast again for tonight, the continued hot temperatures, we are talking 70s and 80s. The five years of drought conditions, this doesnt look good for containment any time soon. Right now, they are putting the figure at only 5 . Several years ago, there was a big fire in Santa Barbara county. Is this the same area or different . Reporter it is about 20 miles away. It is much more of a rugged, the Los Padres National forest type terrain. Santa barbara is very developed with a lot of home ins the hillsides. This is much more isolated. The homes are fewer and further between. It is about 20 miles away. But it is the same county. The same area. The smoke still heavy. So, this is something that people here are used to. But, the visitor who wandered off the highway thursday about noon. Looks like a Pretty Healthy animal. Just out looking for breakfast. Oh my god. It looks like a baby. Reporter its a gated property, certainly, there are obstacles to getting in. But this bear, about two years old, 100 pounds, found a way. A gap in the fence. And, open the other side, a few dozen vineyard workers who looked up and couldnt belief their eyes. Stopped work. Everybody was pretty afraid. They called 911. Reporter they shouted hoping to scare him off. The bear ran around the vineyard a little bit terrified usually. Trying to escape. Ran back into the woods. Reporter the black bear is californias only species and can be brown or cinnamon colored too. The population has doubled in 20 years to 30,000. So encounters have become more common. Especially in campgrounds where the bears expect to find food. I think it is pretty awesome. I didnt know there were bears in sonoma county. Im concerned it is not getting what it needs. Why is it down here . Reporter in fact, the bear just probably followed its nose. It is about 100 times better than that of a blood hound and 10,000 times better than a human being. So, it can smell things that we wouldnt even begin to smell. I think it is great. Im kind of a little sad he didnt show up here to have a pint with us you know . Dna evidence proves Garcia Torres lured the girl to his car and killed her. Survivors and victims families continue to mourn in orlando a day after president obamas visit to the city. Officials are doing everything they can to make sure everybody impacted by the attack are getting the help they need. Reporter meanwhile, there is new information on the shooter omar mateen. In addition to phone calls to 191 and the media during the shooting, he also allegedly texted with his wife noor sahi salman. No word on whether she will face any charges. Florida governor rick scott says it is a prime example of why america need to refocus on the fight against domestic terror. Destroy isis. Stop radical islam. I dont want this to happen in my state again. It is disgusting. Im fed up with it. Reporter and the political fallout continues from president obamas visit here yesterday. He continues his call for new gun control legislation. But it wont be easy. Congress appears gridlocked again with some republican lawmakers signaling flexibility on the issue, and others promising to fight any new gun control measures. What i think we need to do here is do everything we can to make sure terrorists are not able to buy guns. You dont defeat terrorism by taking away our guns but by using them. Reporter votes on a series of gun control amendments could take place as soon as monday. A number of vigils here in the bay area this weekend to mourn the victims of the orlando shooting. At 4 00 this afternoon, San Mateo County leaders will meet at the county center plaza in redwood city. They will read the names of victims, light candles, pray, and raise the lgbtq flag. A Memorial Walk is planned in San Francisco tomorrow at 2 30 starting at harvey milk plaza going to the Mission District. Then oakland Skyline United Church of christ will hold the vigil entitled we stand with orlando. A public memorial is scheduled next week for a fallen San Jose Police officer. We were there as the police motorcade led a solemn procession for michael catherman. Hundreds of Police Officers from the bay area and beyond came to salute the motorcade and many people outside Law Enforcement also stopped to watch the procession. I didnt know him. But, it is beautiful to see how they all come together for this. And we did this last year with the fallen officers as well. So it is incredible to watch. It is a loss for the entire community. We drove up onto it and im glad that we did. Officer catherman was killed in a motorcycle crash tuesday afternoon. He became the 13th officer in the citys history to die in the line of duty. And we are hearing from the man who tried to save the officers life. Dan sullivan witnessed the crash, rushed to perform cpr and used the Officers Police radio to call for an ambulance. Something i wouldnt wish on anybody. When you see a Police Officer down. It is not a pretty sight. Sullivan is having trouble coping with the officers death and what he saw there at the scene. He has not returned to work since that crash on tuesday. The Memorial Service for officer catherman will be held next tuesday at 11 00 a. M. At the sap center in san jose on west santa clara street. One of the Police Officers in fremont injured in a shooting earlier this month has been released from the hospital, but the second officer injured and shot in the head is still in the hospital. Still continuing to make improvements. The suspect was found dead of a selfinflicted gunshot wound in a burned out home in fremont. San francisco is increasing patrols in the Mission District after a string of shootings. The San Francisco examiner reports three other people have been killed in separate violent incidents in the mission since last month. Much of the crime is happening at 16th and mission street. David compos plans to meet with police next week. The warriors are in court over a lawsuit to stop plans to build a new arena in San Franciscos mission bay neighborhood. It was filed by the Mission Bay Alliance claiming the warriors did not consider several environmental factors including how the arena would affect traffic, air quality, and noise. They fear the game time traffic could block ambulances rushing to get to the hospital. This will be a disaster for San Francisco. It will cause traffic from one side of the city to the other. This area was never meant to have an 18,000 seat arena directly across from three major hospitals. If construction is allowed to take place, the warriors hope to be playing games in the chase center in 2019. The warriors issued a statement saying the bottom line is the warriors have an extraordinarily strong California Environmental Quality Record so we expect to be as successful in a court of law as we have been in the court of public opinion. There is a group assembled and they are protesters. They sent our news room an e mail explaining what they are doing here at Oakland Police headquarters. They say they are protesting what they call police brutality. They say that they are making this stance in front of the Police Department after some recent rough times. They have had three chief ins the span of six days. Much of this anger stemming from an investigation into allegations of misconduct by a number of Police Officers involving an underaged sex worker and the relationships they may have had with her. You see here, very interesting picture unfolding right in the heart. Right near downtown oakland. One person here on the flag pole, that is two people here on flag poles from what i understand, the group is going to unfurl some sort of banner that essentially is saying enough is enough. In is what we are doing. We are working to get on the ground. We are working to figure out what they are going to do with these protesters. We have been watching this picture live the last several minutes. We havent seen any Police Officers try to take action. I dont see any officers trying to get the people in the flag pole down, i dont see anybody essentially being rounded up. So right now, it does look very peaceful. But, we understand there are police. There are police in the vicinity. Officers in the area. Monitoring if you will what is taking place there. Presumably, they are not rushing to make any moves here. Oftentimes you will see that Police Officers will take their time and try to let things sort themselves out there. We understand speaking about the situation with all the Police Chiefs that have been let go, they will have flyers at this event with some of the faces of the recently dismissed chiefs and three chief ins a matter of just a few weeks. And today, we are now getting a better look at what is happening just off to the side. I do see what appear to be a line of Police Officers lined upright in front of that building. Very close to interstate 80 in oakland. Officers dont appear to be taking any actions. They are watching protesters take over the two flag poles there. They plan to unfurl a banner. They are upset with opd using words like oppression, harassment. We will someday on top of this. Let you know what happens. Such a rough time for the Oakland Police department. It is. After the break, we will hear from the codirectors of the highly anticipated sequel. The highly anticipated sequel to finding nemo is in theaters today. And janine de la vega stopped by the emeryville based company to talk to the creators behind finding dory. Reporter we are here inside pixar animation studios. You can see there are pictures of the new movie finding dory. It opens this weekend. You will hear from one of the directors, angus mclain. Tell me a little bit about this film. Because nemo was so popular so people are really expecting a lot and are excited to see the sequel. Finding dory is really a continuation of the story laid out by finding nemo. Andrew when he first developed the film felt it would just be finished. One movie. But after seeing the rerelease in 3d in 2011, Andrew Stanton was a little worried about dory. Was she going to be okay . Would she forget about marlin and nemo and wander off into the ocean . So he started coming up with ideas for a connuation of the story to explain what would happen to dory and assure audiences at the end of this movie that she would be okay. And we know, we have heard that she is trying to find her parents and part of that may be nemo helps and we meet a lot of new characters . We have hank the octopus played by ed oneal. We have a pair of sea lions. And we also have calen olsen playing a whale shark and a beluga whale. One of the things people were so blown away by visually by finding nemo and the technology, now all the years past, will audience members see a difference . I think so. 13 years is a Long Time Technology wise. We are using brand new lighting and rendering toolsful. It wont feel out of place, but there is a lot we can do now that we werent able to do then. The octopus would not have been possible 13 years ago. And most of the water effects were not even possible five years ago. Thank you very much. I know you are excited. And, he definitely wants to hear what audience members think since lit be opening weekend. So very exciting since finding nemo was one of the most successful films for pixar.
