Listen to what she had to say. But we have changed a lot. And so that was in 1972, the first one. But i think history is remarkable. This achievement by hillary. Reporter Barbara Boxer is right now addressing the delegation. Out here she is a trailblazer herself, one of the first women elected to congress back in 1992, elected to the senate where she has been. She will be retiring at the end of her term coming up this year. Now today we thought there would be more disruptions with Bernie Sanders and his delegates. California has had a lot of problems with how rowdy they have been booing throughout the very first day. But all that changed today primarily because Bernie Sanders himself met with the california delegation at breakfast. I understand that many people here in this Convention Hall and around the country are disappointed. We are absolutely scare today have our voices be heard. Reporter hearing their calls, seeing some cry and some stand in silence. Hillary clinton must become the next president of the United States. Reporter and after all, but demanding his supporters to support Hillary Clinton. California, thank you very much. Reporter Bernie Sanders today came directly to the loudest clinton decenters, the california delegations. As goes california, so goes america. Reporter and so went his direct final plea for the party to stop fighting. What we must do or forever look back in regret is to beat donald trump and elect Hillary Clinton. Reporter today they even booed sanders himself. But Bernie Sanders did not stop. In my view, it is easy, its easy, it is easy to boo, but it is harder to look your kids in the face who would be living under a donald trump presidency. Reporter and with that some started to listen. We need to start beginning to have healing and the healing will come with more positive on both parties. Reporter the true test for this party comes tonight with former president bill clinton and nancy pelosi both speaking. It was very painful, very frustrating. Reporter the bay area delegate sat to many of the loudest protesters last night, but thinks that day two will be different. You think that they are finally getting the message. I think that it will be very painful for them to understand that this is everybody that will be listening to them tonight and maybe tomorrow. And that then they are just history. Reporter new fences outside will keep thousands of protesters out, but will the protest continue inside . Its only clear tonight where Bernie Sanders himself stands. And if no state in this nation that will play a more Important Role than california. Thank you all very much. Reporter we found out just about two hours ago exactly where Bernie Sanders stands. You know this is such a beautiful moment out here that i have to tell you as they would skip vermont when that roll call vote was going on coming to the very end. Bernie sanders, he stood up and actually motioned for an acclimation vote when that entire group here all of the delegates voted with their voice. They gave their nay or aye and all of them unanimously through Hillary Clinton officially giving her the nomination. It was a great moment. Ill tell you the crowd went crazy. Thousands of people out here screaming. Now the next big speaker is going to be bill clinton coming up. We think now in and about an hour. Of course well bring you that live. For now thats the very latest. Well send it back to you in oakland. Reporter that had to be a very special moment when that moment happened. It was history making. What was it like for you personally to be in there and watch all of that unfold when Bernie Sanders did the end of the roll call . Reporter well you know none of us knew exactly how this was going to happen. Its been a subject of debate all day long. Would Bernie Sanders actually speak, would he do what he did, or would he just sit this one out . It kept changing throughout the day. Now when the moment actually came, to the time of the stage right next to barbara. When the announcement came she was surprised, i was surprised, she was hugging her her children, she had tears in her eyes. One of the first women elected to congress. She was sworn in to the senate in 1982 the year of the women that you probably remember a big moment for her. This was just so huge for her specifically. I have to tell you it is wonderful to be standing with her when this happened. You can see from the tears in her eyes exactly how much that meant and of course from everyone screaming for at least five minutes how much this meant, this moment in history here in philadelphia how much it meant to everyone. Yeah, we will look forward to hearing more from you. Afterall the speakers tonight coming up on the 10 00 broadcast. Thank you, ross. Joining us now is brian soble. Whether you like Hillary Clinton or you dont like Hillary Clinton as ross was saying. This was a historic moment today for our country in listening to him saying that she had tears in her eyes. It was really something. Oh absolutely. You think about the history of the republic and how long it has taken for a woman to finally achieve this place. Its really so remarkable. In talking about Barbara Boxer and her role in American History as well. California is very lucky to have a lot of people who have been involved in the movement. Then leading, of course to Hillary Clinton and what she she has done. It is kind of hard to believe, but you know its here now. People will have a choice. Heres the choice. The choices do you vote for Hillary Clinton because shes a woman breaking the Glass Ceiling or do you say hey i think in our lifetimes were going to see other women candidates so im going to take a pass and vote for donald trump. Thatll be the question in the electric mind. What do you think of the states craft there on Bernie Sanders . Sanders was kind of emotional . I mean this is where the end of the line is. The end of his era. Hes 74 years old. Hell never run for president again. We dont really know what hell do. Hes in the United States senate. Maybe hell take a cabinet post or something else. But for his president ial run, the era has closed and he was emotional. And i think when you get to the end of a race of any kind in your life and you dont win, its bittersweet and its emotional. We watched yesterday, the chaotic mess that seemed like they started to hit their strive. Do you think that they would put this whole unity issue behind them now . Yes. To seal the deal by calling for the acclimation vote. Everybody saying that they wanted hillary that it was a real nice touch for him to do that. Dont know whether that was in the plan, but that it certainly was something that everybody could see that was a deal sealer. So bill clinton is the featured speaker. What do you think that their mission will be . What will they do tonight . A couple of points. One is hes always entertaining when he speaks. His mission tonight will be to humanize Hillary Clinton. Sounds like an odd trade, but hes got his job to say i know this person very, very well. Shell make a great president. Here are all the reasons why. I think that they will also take the time to work in some stuff with donald trump and some other issues. But the main mission is beginning of telling the Hillary Clinton story. Then of course on thursday night that Hillary Clinton has to accept the nomination to give the speech of her lifetime. What will she have to do to connect with voters on thursday night . It is really important when you think about it with all their polling showing us that she has a lot of disconnects with the American Public around trustworthiness and other things. Her job is to say forget about everything that youve heard. I am the real deal. You can trust me, ill make a great president. Thats our job. All right, we will see if it will be Mission Accomplished on thursday. Well talk to you again at 10 00. Brian, thank you. Our coverage of the Democratic National convention will continue at ktvu. Com. And in our politics section we will also have a blog giving you the behindthescenes action to the biggest dnc events. New at 6 00, city leaders in oakland are meeting at this hour to discuss the possible creation of the independent Police Review commission. If the City Council Approves the commission, then the issue would be put on the November Ballot and it will be up to voters in oakland to decide. Ktvus Cristina Rendon in our newsroom tonight with the power that this Power Commission would have. Reporter well frank this meeting is already underruation but will likely take several hours already underway, but it will likely take several hours. Itll transfer power from the city administrator to the new board. I feel like were on the presence of a major change in oakland. Reporter the coalition for the Police Accountability is close to a longtime goal. They are pushing to give voters the option in november to create an independent civilian review commission to overseat Oakland Police department. Weve had a team of people working on this for a very long time. We are trying to get it on the ballot, we tried back in 2014. Reporter they will be able to investigate and discipline and recommend police policies. The commission would have the power to fire or hire the chief. Itll be made up of seven members, four appointed by the public, three appointed by the mayor. Spotters of the proposal supporters of the proposal wants to call on a compromise for the very first step. Its kind of like a mixed bag, but we can also be happy over the fact that at least were going to have something for the people. I think that the people will be happy with it. This has been in process for three years now. Reporter he believes the board will unanimously vote to send the proposal to the November Ballot. I want to honor the citizens that are paying their taxes. To making sure they will get Quality Service when it comes to their taxes. Reporter the Police Department is embroiled without a police chief and in a sex scandal. We deserve to have a Police Department that practices constitutional policing that does not engage in racial profiling. That they do not use Excessive Force and in killing our minority residence. We deserve to have a Police Department that we can trust. Reporter if this does go to the ballot in november and approved by voters, itll take an additional nine months before the commission is implemented in the fall of 2017.
