Report of a gunshot fired. A man in his late 20s who has yet to be identified was found dead in a Newark Shopping Center saturday morning. Employees say a customer walked by and saw the victim slumped over the steering wheel. Jimmy lee, Shopping Plaza employeehis engine was running and the windshield wipers were on. The victim was shot at least once in the head while sitting in the drivers seat of this dark grey bmw. The first homicide of the year was called into police at half past noon. But plaza employees say they think it happened hours before. Were still looking at videos and witnesses but we do have some leads. Newark police arent releasing any surveillence video at this time. But we were able to watch footage from a nearby business. In it a white or silver suv pull up to the car where the victim was found about three men got out and into the victims car then fled just before a call came through that the man was killed. For now police have covered up the victims car with a blue tent and have blocked the license plate. They say its to treat the victim with for now Police Police say two woman were sexually assaulted. Within 20 minutes of each other on the Stanford University campus in palo alto. Both incidents happened last night on escondido road. The first victim was assulted around 10 40 p. M. Police say the suspect groped a woman from behind and continued walking east. Then, around 11 p. M. , another victim was assaulted nearby. The victim says she was jogging. When the suspect allegedly groped her from behind and ran away. Both suspects are described as bald, white men, around five foot six in height. Both had different clothing on. This isnt the first time this year that palo alto has had this problem. Just last month San Mateo County deputies arrested 26 yearold george moubarak. He is suspected in two sex assault cases in palo alto including one at a caltrain station. Officials say he groped two women after while they were walking down the street. jrstone in the south bay. But in talking with the coast guard and a unified command team, it sounds like those risks for the most part have already been mitigated. The sinking of vengeance, a crane barge that was helping with maintenance on barts transbay tubehas gotten the us coast guardfish and wildlifeSan Franciscos department of emergency managementand others working together to fix the problem. This is actually what you want to happen at the unified command we have representatives from the local, state, and federal all here working together. They say so far, things have gone pretty smoothly. The coast guard has been working to make sure theres no obstruction in the water for other watercraft to run into. The good news is its outside of the navigable channel, so that was one of our first concerns, is where is it . Theres still a safety zone to keep other vessels away from the site while coasties and others do their work. The Ongoing Investigation should help them figure out what caused the barge to capsize. It very well could have been the weather. I would speculate it probably was. There were significant winds that night when it sank. However, i dont know for sure. Though divers have plugged the leaking fuel vent, the barge still has four thousand gallons of diesel that presnt the apotential of a massive leak. Vortex marine construction, which owns vengeance, will ultimately be responsible for salvaging it.
