57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. Good to be with you. Im annemarie green. A suspect who killed a Georgia Police officer and wounded another is on the run this morning. Law enforcement officials are looking for this man, Minguell Lembrick. A 30,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest. Shortly after the shooting, a message on his Facebook Page read another life gone and not going to jail. Don champion has our report. Reporter gunfire broke out wednesday morning in the town of americus, about 130 miles south of georgia. An americus Police Officer and an officer from Georgia Southwestern State University responded to a domestic dispute. Gunshots were exchanged and the two officers were wound. Reporter police say 25yearold americus officer nicholas smar was killed and jody smith was critically wounded. Investigators identified 32yearold Minguell Lembrick as the gunman and offering a reward for his arrest. He is considered armed and dangerous. Reporter the Georgia Bureau of investigation and the fbi and at least 20 Law Enforcement agencies are working together to find lembrick. On his Facebook Page the suspect allegedly wrote he was not going to jail. This is a very dangerous individual and we need to have him off the streets. Reporter police say he has outstanding warrants for kidnapping and other charges related to a previous domestic incident but the two officers diknowd not is background when they responded to the 911 call. Georgia Southwestern University went into lockdown as a precaution, though the shooting happened off campus. Campus is safe and at no time were any students involved or in danger. Reporter at least five other georgia Law Enforcement officers have been killed by gunmen so far this year. Don champion, cbs news. A knife wielding Nevada High School student is in Critical Condition after being shot by a Police Officer. The 14yearold suspect was threatening other students with what appeared to be two knives yesterday morning at huck high school in reno. Students rushed to get out of the way and officers shot the suspect after he refused to surrender. There was an altercation between two students on campus. At some point following that altercation, one student, a 14yearold male, had armed himself with a knife. Once armed with a knife, the student began threatening others on campus. No one else was injured. Its unclear what provoked the incident. This morning, much of the country is engulfed by an arctic deep freeze. Temperatures up to 35 degrees below normal stretch from the Northern Plains south and there is snow, too. So much in north dakota that even tow trucks are getting stuck. There are whiteout conditions and the weather system is expected to last for days. Chief meteorologist eric fisher of our boston station wbz has details. Reporter we continue to watch some of the coldest air in quite some time now that the freezer door is open to the arctic and seep down to the northern states by the end of the week and deep into the southeast by the time we get to saturday morning and looking at this pattern that will hold on the next seven to ten days. Not a short thing but a longer term pattern for this month. Friday morning looking at lows 20 below zero in north dakota 20s all the way down into mississippi, alabama, and georgia. And by the time we get to saturday morning, sub freezing air as far south as north florida. So freeze or profit conditions are possible for many of the citrus groves there. Cold air machine will be cranking up in the next feud. We will be measuring it in feet down wind of all the great lakes. Windy, very cold, mid winter conditions. There is another system we are watching out on the west coast. This one not just bringing mountain snow through the rest of this week but low land snow in and around seattle. His latest cabinet appointments include a Climate Change denier to head the epa, but this mornings headlines is about a growing feud between mr. Trump and a union leader who criticized mr. Trumps claim to have saved 1,100 jobs in indiana. Roxana saberi is here in new york. Good morning. Reporter good morning. The union leader called mr. Trumps deal to save jobs at the carrier plant in indiana a promise halfway delivered. Soon after that, the president elect lashed out on twitter. The latest dustup came after indianas United Steelworkers Union president chuck jones appeared on cnn, blasting president elect donald trump for overstating the number of jobs that would be saved as part of the carrier deal. We have a lot of our members when the word was coming out of 1,100, they thought that they would have a job. Then they find out the next day after friday, that most likely they werent. 550 were still going to lose their jobs. Reporter moments later, mr. Trump fired back on twitter writing, in part, chuck jones has done a terrible job representing workers. No wonder companies flee the country. Just last week, the president elect visited the indianapolisbased plant to tout the deal to keep 800 jobs in the u. S. Companies are not going to leave the United States any more without consequences. Not going to happen. Reporter the comments came as mr. Trump made another controversial nomination to his cabinet. Tapping Oklahoma Attorney general scott pruitt to head the Environmental Protection agency. Pruitt has repeatedly sued the epa over fossil fuel regulations. It is the most damming thing that i see with respect to our ability to grow as a country. Reporter in a statement this year, a club said having pruitt in charge of the epa is like putting an arsonist in charge of fighting fires. Mr. Trump also picked former wrestle i wrestling champion Linda Mcmahon to head the Small Business administration and john kelly to run the department of homeland security. Mr. Trump also travels to the ohio State University in columbus, ohio, today, to meet with First Responders and victims of a car and knife attack there last month. Two juveniles are being held in tennessee charged with starting the wildfires that killed 14 people. The fires damaged or destroyed more than 2,400 homes and other buildings in east tennessee in and near the Great Smoky Mountains national park. The juveniles are from tennessee but they are not from that area. Officials say the fire that killed 36 people in the oakland warehouse started on the ground floor and then it spread quickly.
