Im Cheryl Jennings we learned the 32yearold was a victim in a tragic shooting along the city water front this, is her accused killer, 45yearold Francisco Sanchez. We have Live Team Coverage from pleasanton. Were going to start with vic lee with the latest on the murder investigation. Vic . Reporter that is where catherine steinly was shot last night. Police told us at a briefing here today, that the man they detained last night the person of interest Francisco Sanchez was charged with her murder today. This video was taken by a person who lived nearby. You can see bystanders trying to help catherine steinly, who was mortally wounded. Police say the suspect never exchanged words before he shot her. The victim said something to the family members to the extent she didnt feel well and realized something had just taken place and fell to the ground. A police boat cruised around the pier this morning looking for the gun used in the shooting. Divers put something in a box. Police would not say if that was the gun. Police believe the suspect tossed the weapon into the water after shooting canalling Lynn Catherine steinly. She was fatally shot after strolling down the pier with her father. There does not appear to be a connect between the victim and suspect. It appears to be a random shooting incident. At the time there were a dozen people on the popular pier. Police descended on the area after receiving numerous 911 calls investigators e mailed to other officers cell photos taken of the suspect, today, charged for the murder. They found sanchez hiding in front of this restaurant. A bartender saw the take down. We just saw a guy on the floor. A cop pointing a gun at him. Steinly lived across the street from where he was arrested. Police say sanchez is on probation in texas. Our sources tell us hes been deported to mexico several times and his rap sheet includes aggravated assault. Well obviously her family is devastated tonight. We spoke to kates brother the two were very close he said kate loved to make people smile and hell miss everything about her. Tonight a family is heart broken over the loss of one of their own.
