Today will mark the first full day of jury deliberations in the trial of Garcia Torres when a panel of six men and six women meet later at the hall of justice. Theyll weigh both sides presented to them during trial that lasted for three months. And will try to decide whether or not to convict Garcia Torres for the kidnapping and murder of 15yearold sierra lamar who disappeared on the way to her bus stop in morgan hill in march of 2012. Do they believe the prosecution, which presented evidence that the suspects dna was found on lamars clothes and lamars dna in the suspects car, or do they side with the defense which questioned whether lamar is actually still alive given the fact her body has never been found. A Santa Clara University lawfessor tells us it could take the jury quite some time to come back with a verdict. Could take at a minimum several days. But it could even take longer for them to work through the evidence. And some of it depends on whether or not theres any disagreement in the jury room. Been a long trial, but its just a blink of an eye compared to how much time we havent had sierra with us. The same jury will also decide if torres should be sentenced to death, assuming they come back with a guilty verdict. If the jury finds him not guilty, that means torres would never be able to be tried again in the case, eve if new evidence emerges. In the last couple minutes, we learned two people were killed when a cargo plane crashed at around airport in charleston, west virginia. The aircraft is being described as a twinengine turbo prop that was coming in from louisville, kentucky. The pilot and copilot on board that plane have died. Initial reports are that the planes lest wing the runway and crashed into a wooded area there. Also new this morning, a woman is rushed to the hospital after being hit by a ford mustang on the peninsula. This is new video of the scene just in to our newsroom in the last hour or so. This happened on El Camino Real and san diego in millbrae. We do not have word on the victims condition. 6 04. To a tragic story we have been covering this yesterday morning. This is a picture of a san jose couple gunned down in their home by their daughters exboyfriend. The husband was a Vice President of engineering at Juniper Networks in sunnyvale. The couple that lived inoue glen, they died in their home Late Wednesday night. The ordeal lasted well into thursday morning. Police say 24yearold shot and killed the couple and then took the couples 13yearold son hostage. Thats when officers shot him. He did not survive. There was a possible advanced warning on his Instagram Page just a couple weeks ago where he wrote no mercy on the ones you love the most. They said he was upset over a recent breakup. Dealing with someone who is mentally ill. Who had choices. And he didnt give his family choices. He didnt give my officer a choice. The couple had an older son in the home the time of the shooting. He was able to get out and call for help. His former girlfriend was not at the house. New details this morning. You probably remember this protest last month in berkeley that clearly got out of hand in civic center park. Now, police are asking for your help. They want to identify three people they say are wanting for assault stemming from the protest. Heres some of the pictures. Protesters on both sides of the clash. One video clip showed a protester being bunched in the face. All in all, police ended up arresting 20 people that day, 11 were injured. Vta commuters will want to brace for some changes coming to their Transit Service that will impact their bottle line. The Transit Agency is dealing with a 21 million shortfall. The board yesterday unanimously approved changes meant to improve service and attract new riders. It will include more service for some of the busiest lines in East San Jose and downtown. Some lines may also be cut, and it witmn all come at a cost. Board members signed off on a 50 cent share hike over the next two years. Now to washington, d. Yesterday, in a vote along party lines, the gop passed the new Health Care Bill without a score of how much it might or how many people could lose their insurance. The legislation now heads to the senate where it faces a much tougher challenge. And the senate may not get to the American Health care act for months. Republicans say the bill would lower premiums by bringing more Insurance Companies back into the market, but the bill gives states an option to loosen regulations for charging sick people more. President trump says hes fulfilling a campaign promise. It was a way of making uber x cars invisible to city regulators. In cities where they were cracking down on ride share. Uber x drivers would know not to pick him up. The New York Times was the first to reveal the greyball software. But reuters reports federal prosecutors here in the bay area have launched an inquiry. Parents will be scrambling because instead of welcoming children here at the montessorm, staff will be dealing with this, broken glass all over the outside, and look at the inside. This is the room that served the infants here, and you can see that the little caughts there on the ground have been tossed around. Piles of diapers, glass, toys, all strewn together on the carpet. This school also serves preschoolers in the other room and has a rather large body here. Continuing coverage this morning, bracing for more testimony in a Police Officer killing that rocked the Hayward Police department and the Law Enforcement community in general two years ago. The preliminary hearing continues for mark estrauta who is accused of murdering Sergeant Scott lunger in 2013. Yesterday, officer justin green testified that he drove up to the scene as quickly as possible and heard a gunshot from the suspectsp. Officer green said he then shot multiple times into estradas car, but the suspect was able to drive away. Estrada was arrested the next day where he was at a hospital in oakland being treated for a gunshot wound. Were expecting to learn more details on a salvage operation. Theyre trying to pull up a sunken barge that capsized last month in stormy weather. All that happening near the bridge. Crews have been working on rotating barge upright for months, at one point, it was essentially sitting over the transbay tube. The coast guard will bring us an update.
