Much of the the incident was captured on cell phone video. Police were called to the home on report of a woman with a gun threatening to kill family members. Police say they tried to negotiate with her but she came out of the home waving what looked to be a weapon. Thats when an over shot her. She died at a hospital shortly thereafter. She was actually holding a power drill painted black. Staffers are on alert at glide. A staff member was stabbed in the shoulder. The attacker took off and jumped onto a muni bus. Officers caught up with him and arrested him. No word on what sparked the attack. If wasnt all fun and games for the opener, officers did make a total of 12 arrests yesterday, most of those were for public intoxication. One was for threatening a Police Officer. Investigators arent saying what may have happened or what charges that suspect may face. Vandals are repeatedly the targeting cars and property along santa rosa street. Heres a map there for you. The owners of that slaughterhouse and two employees are facing charges of creating an elaborate scheme to sell contaminated meat. The Mark Matthews was in court and has the latest. Reporter that recall, that was one of the biggest in california. More than 8 Million Pounds of beef recalled. One of the biggest in the state. And affecting processors across the country. The recalled beef came from the Rancho Feeding Corporation slautser house in petaluma, along with allegations that the plant had improperly processed cows that had eye cancer. One of the owners ordered employees to carve usda condemned stamps out of the cattle carcasses that did not pass inspection. In addition, employees placed the heads from apparently healthy kwous next to cancer eye kwou carcasses this switching and slautser of cows occurred during the inspectors lunch breaks according to the indictment when the plant was supposed to be shut down. The indicted are the owner and employees from santa rosa and petaluma. Prosecutors believe they are responsible for shipping 101 unfit cattle and 79 cancereyed cows to Food Processors ayos the country, including the nestle hot pocket line. Investigators reportedly got onto the scheme when meat inspectors found two cow heads infected with cancer but no cow carcasses to go with them. Now today, the coowner of the plant and an employee were in court to plead not guilty. Both have been released on a 50,000 bond. The other two indicted have yet to make their first court appearance. New accusations but same response. Pg e says not guilty. This stems from the san bruno explosion. The legal team pleaded not guilty today to 28 charges filed in a new indictment. They include obstruction of justice for lying to federal investigators and 27 counts of violating the National Gas Pipeline safety act. Now pg e had no comment after todays hearing, but the city of san bruno did. We believe its high time that pg e cleaned up its act, that it understood and took responsibility, took full responsibility for the negligence, for the inappropriate operations and frankly for its malfeasance. They want some of the fines to pay for the ensuring safety in the future. They did provide ra statement saying in part we still do not believe the pg e employees intentionally violated the federal Pipeline Safety act and that where mistakes were made employees were acting in good faith. Following up now on a deadly shooting of a mentally ill teenager by a sheriffs deputy. The deputy will not face any criminal charges. On june 3, a family in Half Moon Bay called for hip when a 18 Year Old Girl refused to take her medicine for schizophrenia. Instead of paramedics, a deputy arrived. The girl grabbed a kitchen knife, refusing his orders to drop the weapon. If the officer hadnt fired he might have been killed by the girl. The Sheriffs Office today offered its condolences to that family. For the second time in three months, someone has fallen to their death on a hiking trail. Gritzly park is known for its treacherous trails. Last night a 60 year old hiker slipped and fell to his death. Hes identified as Donald Odwyer of berkley. A sigh of relief from homeowners near by. The drought has leveled off since the summer began. At the same time, nearly 100 of our state is still experiencing severe Drought Conditions and about half the state, including us here in Northern California is still in the exceptional drought stage. So those numbers are sobering as we move forward. They certainly are. A lot of people are still focused on conservation efforts, which is great. We are going to see a little drizzle up against the coastline. It may squelch the fire danger at least in the immediate. The California Drought is of course encompassing the entire state. 58 of california remains under the worst level which is exceptional drought. More money for our california students, but is it money well spent . Voters passed it in 2012 and now its coming through. Its the local controlled funding formula which was proposed by governor jerry brown after proposition 30 in 2012. That initiative ingests new funds for public education. The new formula will provide an extra 35 in state funds for students who are either poor or english lernarlearners or both. It will dedicate 2. 1 billion annually to that program. Youre so perfect to ask this because youve been a longtime professor. Public education already receives 40 of the budget. Are we miss managing this money, or do we simply need more . Its not enough for california. This state ranks 33rd of the 50 states in high school graduation. Something that should be surprising, the state has the highest teacher to pupil ratio. The math scores for fourth and eighth graders are ranked 47th out of the 50 states. The reading scores arent much better. Fourth graders in 47th place where eighth graders climbed to 42nd, whoohoo. Its particularly poor the with latino and africanamerican students. You can see why the governor proposed this program to begin with. You should be governor. Will this work . Assuming the continued financial support, i say that because the problem there is that the program will be fully engaged over an eightyear period. But most of the extra funding from prop 13, its going to run out in five years. So unless the state solves that math problem, we may never know the outcome of local controlled funding programs and still be in a lurch. Thank you larry. And another math problem to contend with. All that money that it costs to raise children. They are costing more, not just for the state but also for their parents. The expense of raising a child is up nearly 2 from last year. The grand total, from birth to adult hood, get ready for this, nearly 245,000. Transportation and housing make up about half of that cost. 39,000 is the cost to feed a child for about 18 years.
