Two of my children, don and eric, plus executives, will manage them. No new deals will be done during my terms in office. But still, so many questions about the conflicts of interest. So whats the best case for tillerson . Reporter he is a highly successful dealmaker. He does know players around the world, not just in russia and knows how to negotiate. Tillerson has said himself that the russian government knows that when he says no, he means it. And if you want to shake things up around the world and inside the state department itself, with those career diplomats, Rex Tillerson can probably do that. And if trump brings in john bolton as deputy secretary of state who has a very different view of the world than it seems trump has, he will have a kind of Good Cop Bad Cop working there with tillerson and bolton. And that can potentially work well. But i think we also have to point out, george, that we really dont know what trumps grand strategy or Foreign Policy really is and where he wants to go with it. We could find out at the confirmation hearings of tillerson. Hes also getting caught in a squeeze play, questions over ties to put frn republican putin from republicans and from democrats on climate change. Reporter exactly and thats another thing. We dont really know what tillerson will do with that. He had business dealings that were affected by that before. He says he certainly believes in climate change. But putin said they want a better relationship and that is going to be tougher right now because of that and because of these hacking charges. Although, so far, donald trump says he doesnt believe that. On those hacking charges, matthew dowd, the real collision coming between donald trump, the president elect and congress including republicans in congress. Well, looks like what donald trump has united opposition on this whole issue, not only related to what martha said, to the cabinet pick, there will be vehement opposition. But on this issue, it goes to does it delegitimize Donald Trumps presidency at the beginning of it . He already lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton and questions related to the election and now you have this situation which donald trump and his staff know is problematic for the integrity as he enters this office. So its going to be a big problem. Monday night when the electors meet around the country, there is some question about how many will abandon him in the course of this. You know rick perry pretty well down there in texas. What difference can he make at energy . Yeah, i know rick really well. I took his filing years ago when he ran as a democrat when i was working at the democratic party. I think the fascinating thing about this, donald trump is nominating rick perry who wants to basically disband the energy department. Hes nominated somebody to be head of epa that wants to get rid of regulations. Hes nominated somebody as secretary of education that is against much of what the education wants to do. And hes nominated somebody as health and hew, as somebody who wants to get rid of much of hat they want to do. This morning, we expect to hear from police seen here arresting dylann roof in north carolina. After police say he ran from the murder scene at this Historic Black Church in charleston. From his car, police say they pulled a Confederate Flag and this 45 caliber glock from the backseat under a pillow. And a burned American Flag in the trunk. Police say they also found a list of other black churches in the charleston area. In his confession roof told the fbi he considered other targets. I thought about going to like a black festival or Something Like that but they got security and stuff a and you gotta wait for the day. You really cant do it whenever youre ready. Reporter roofs video confession played in court is coldblooded. Why did you have to do it . Well, i had to do it because somebody had to do something because, you know, plaque people are killing white people every day. Reporter jurors are learning roof should have never been able to buy the gun. Surveillance videos show him going and coming from a gun store in april, a whole two months before the killings. A background check should have denied him the firearm because of a previous arrest for drug possession. The government got back to that Gun Store Owner at the end of june. A full two weeks after the killings. Robin . Disturbing to hear that, steve, thank you. To that breaking news of a recall of a popular kitchen item. The cpsc warning that older blades on cuisinart Food Processors could break apart and end up in your food. Abcs david kerley has the details. Reporter this morning, an urgent warning for a holiday staple. Conair the maker of cuisinart and the government announcing that major recall of 8 million food processers. These are in millions of American Homes including my own and theyre really dangerous products. Reporter the cpsc and conair urging consumers to stop using the processors riveted blades with four rivets and beige Plastic Center hub, seen here working properly in this cuisinart infomercial. But those blades can crack over time, sending small metal pieces into your processed food. Imagine having broken bits of a metal blade in your food and in your mouth. There are dozens of incidents of cuts to the mouth and broken teeth because of these products. Reporter conair says there are 69 reports of these broken blades and 30 reports of cuts in consumers mouths or tooth injuries. Made over the past 20 years, 22 different models of food processers are being recalled. Its probably more in the 20yearold side and so we dont want consumers to be complacent even if they think they had it for a long time, put it aside. Check the model number. Make sure you dont have a recalled product. And if you do, please act on the recall. Reporter some models were just made last year. This recall just ordered minutes ago. You can go to cpsc. Gov. I was just there. And see if your food processer is one of those recalled. Now, the company is offering a free replacement blade if you do have one of these recalls and as we said, robin, 8 million of them out there. A lot of them and very serious issue, thank you. Reporter good morning, michael. The heists get more and more spectacular here in europe. The thieves are more brazen. And it looks like theyre taking tips from hollywood. But its all dangerously real. This morning, an allout manhunt for the Armed Robbers who left this scene on a french roadway monday. Cars engulfed in flames after assailants targeted an armored truck, french authorities say, and they made off with over 1 million in loot. A meticulously planned ambush like a scene straight from the movie heat. But in this reallife heist police say four heavily armed men in multiple cars surrounded the semi armored truck forcing it off the highway near lyon. The robbers grabbed 154 pounds of gold dust, valued at 1. 6 million before setting one of their own cars on fire. French police say that two security guards were locked inside their truck as the flames spread to nearby cars. But authorities later rescued them unhurt. The brazen robbery the latest in a string of highprofile and as yet unsolved heists in france. There was the Kim Kardashian robbery in paris last october. Five men escaping on bicycles captured in this footage after they allegedly stole up to 10 million in jewelry from kardashian, who was tied up and held at gunpoint. And the socalled heist of the century, 143 million in jewels nabbed from a jewelry exhibition at a hotel in cannes in 2013. Police say that fire was set likely deliberately to destroy evidence, dna, fingerprints and the like, and create a diversion. And thieves, michael, are still on the lam. Manhunt in georgia. The man accused of shooting two Police Officers in northeast georgia is now under arrest this morning after a threehour manhunt. Police tracked him to a wooded area. Earlier, they say, he opened fire after he was stopped in a stolen car. The officers are expected to survive. Six Police Officers have been shot in georgia in just the last week. Overseas there are growing concerns we may see an even larger humanitarian disaster in syria. Government forces have retaken nearly all of the city of aleppo. Tens of thousands of civilians are trapped in a small area still held by rebels. And there are reports that troops have entered homes and shot civilians, including about two dozen women and children. Well, the scandal surrounding wells fargo is expanding. Prudential Life Insurance has now stopped the bank from selling its policies as officials in two states investigate whether wells fargo signed up customers for insurance without the customers permission. The bank paid a hefty fine after it was accused of doing the same thing with its own products to meet sales goals. And some tense moments on this Delta Air Lines flight in detroit when police dragged a woman down off the aisle and then off the plane. A woman caught on tape talking about hiring a hit man to kill her husband. She decided not to take the stand. So both sides have wrapped their cases. There were some surprises. There were big surprises yesterday in court as this trial comes to close. Prosecutors getting a chance to show jurors that video of dippolito that the defense fought so hard to keep out and then Defense Attorneys dropping a bombshell during closing arguments. This morning, another twist in the murder for hire trial of Dalia Dippolito. Give her that freedom back to go home to her family and her infant son. Reporter dippolitos lawyer revealing in court during closing arguments she has a child. As the defense rests dippolito choosing not to testify in her retrial. You definitely want to do this. Im positive. Like 5,000 sure. Reporter 34yearold dippolito is accused of hiring an undercover officer posing as a hit man to kill her newlywed husband of six months. Is your husband michael . Okay, im sorry to tell you, maam, hes been killed. Reporter the spotlight has been put on this video made by the Boynton Beach Police Department, which the defense argues was staged and posted online to impress the crew of the tv show cops and displayed a lack of integrity in the investigation. A claim the Police Department denies. But on monday, the judge ruling that the infamous viral video will be shown to the jury. Because its been a feature of the defense case, the state has a right to put that into evidence. Reporter dippolitos lawyers insisting the police set her up. Dippolito maintains she is innocent. This case is 100 on the egregious misconduct of the Boynton Beach Police Department and how they used Dalia Dippolito as a pawn to generate good reality tv for the show cops. Reporter however, prosecutors arguing the video they showed speaks for itself. 4,700 bucks. She wanted two bullets put in her husbands head. For nothing. Reporter the prosecution will get a chance to give its rebuttal this morning and then Dalia Dippolitos fate will once again be in the hands of jurors, george. Okay, lets talk to our legal team, dan abrams and sunny hostin. And dan, no big surprise. No testimony. No, if she had testified shed suddenly have to explain why in the first case the defense was, i thought i was on a reality show. And i was just acting. And then in this case, the defense has been, put the police on trial. Because if she had testified, all of her past statements, meaning including interviews with amy, statements shes made in pretrial hearings, all of which focused on this i was in a reality show defense, would have come in. And yet, in this case, the defense is saying, well, thats not really what were arguing this time. What were really arguing this time if you want to hold the Police Accountable throughout this country that Dalia Dippolito case is the way to do it. And its rare anyway for a defendant to testify. We were sitting here before coming out thinking, which defendants have testified and its been helpful in a murder case . Its very rare. Maybe maybe the kennedy case. That wasnt a murder case. Maybe slager because officers when they get on the witness stand, they do pretty well, i think. But by and large, she had no choice. Always a gamble. The defense fought hard against having that staged fake murder video shown. Big impact. Big, big impact. I mean, look at it. She reacts even before being told that her husband allegedly has been murdered. Its bad acting at the worst and then at the beginning of the video she says im 5,000 sure i want him murdered. In order to prove that it was the Police Officers fault, the Police Departments fault they have to show this defense has to show basically that they induced her to say that. That they planted this crime in her mind. Theres no evidence of that. And its the defenses fault this videos come in. Meaning the prosecution, the defense, and the judge had all agreed, we wont introduce it this time. But the defense then raises the issue on crossexamination of one of the Police Officers and now the prosecutors say wait a sec, if this is what you make as the heart of the defense we have to be able to present that video. They opened the door. Does that kill the entrapment defense . Sorry . Does that kill the entrapment defense . The entrapment defense is not look, if you want to say youre entrapped, thats an argument you make in front of a judge, saying, therefore, evidence shouldnt come in. Yes, you can make it in front of a jury. But its nowhere near as effective to say, oh, you know, we were all kind of suckered into this situation. Shes on tape saying it. It is very tough to unring that bell with a jury by just saying, well, she was put in this situation where she shouldnt have been in. And its not a legally admissible situation. I think thats an argument that you make with a judge. I think it kills the entrapment defense. How do you show the police induced her, that they planted this notion of killing her husband in her mind when she says im 5,000 sure i want him dead. Big plea for sympathy, that revelation she has a son. Yell, thats not going to work. I think perhaps at sentencing, thats something that can be considered. But she was convicted the first time 20 years, convicted and then i think it was 20 years in prison. Lets face it, i think shes going to be convicted again. Maybe not 20 years. Maybe 15 . A new Study Suggests a link between the cholesterol fighting drugs statins, and a reduced risk in the disease. Dr. Jennifer ashton joining us now with more on this. You have our attention, so many people take statins. How big could this be . There are about 5 million americans right now living with alzheimers disease. About 34 million americans take the statin drug to lower their cholesterol, primarily to protect their heart. This study found an association between those staking statins and a lowered risk of alzheimers in some groups by as much as 10 . This varied based on the dose, type and race, gender and ethnicity of those taking it and the theory involved cholesterol levels and evidence that that is linked to those plaques that form in the brain. Knowing this information now do you think well see a big uptick in the use of statins . Probably not yet. Its not quite ready for prime time. It needs more research. You always need to consider risk versus benefit versus alternatives. And some cases, of course, cost. And really, you have to remember there are more things that affect the cholesterol level than just diet. Although thats very important and there are other things that cause alzheimers disease. We know there are other associated risk factors such as head trauma. Age, inflammation, some environmental factors, so this may be an important piece of the puzzle. But its still a piece. Its not the whole pie. Very promising, though. Yes. All right. Jen. Absolutely. Thank you, doc. Now to an amazing story of survival. An 8yearold boy coming to his mothers rescue after she fell into an icecovered pond outside of chicago. The boy, quick on his feet, made this 911 call. Tell her that the police said she needs to come back to the shore. The police say you need to come back to the shore you need to come back to the shore good job. Good job. Good job there, young man. It was her son who called in. When he saw his mom fall in. Thankfully, the rescuers got there in time and shes okay. But, gio, if you find yourself walking along, and you fall into an icy pond what do you do . This will be a little bit of a live show and tell and enlisted the help of kent vnuk at the Hennepin County sheriffs office. And joining us from Lake Minnetonka in minnesota, where the temperature there is really, really quite low. Hes going to help us illustrate how to survive. And you heard that dispatcher say, come back to the shore. Thats what you want to do. You need to come back. It goes against your instinct, right . Isnt that right, lieutenant . Yeah, absolutely. What you want to do is go back to where you fell in. You know that ice was strong where you were just walking. Thats right and once you actually get back to that ice, once you swim back to it you find that strong ice. You need to sort of pick yourself up and there is a way to do that. Called the elbow kick roll your way out. Can you tell us about that, lieutenant . Ooh. Ooh. Yeah, absolutely. As you notice, he just fell in. What we want to do is go back to where he just fell in. What you need to do is get your body as far out of the water as you can. Get your elbows out on the ice. And lay horizontal like doing the breaststroke. And we want you to kick your feet as hard as you can, just like youre swimming. And at the same time, pull yourself up on the ice and roll away from that hole. We want you to roll away from that hole where you get back on to safe ice. Okay, thats if youre by yourself. What if youre with a friend or right away youll want to try to help but the first thing you got to do. Call 911. And once like the boy did. Thats right. You want to call 911 first. And then you can try to help. And once youre there to help, you want to stay about 20 feet away from the hole. You want to try to use something to actually pull them out. Right, lieutenant . Yeah, absolutely. After you call 911, get anything you can get a jumper cable, a rope, a pole, a branch. Whatever it is you can. But you want to have about 20 feet in between you. Need to keep that in mind because your first instinct would be go right to the edge but that you can tell him he can come out of the water now. I think hes enjoying it too much. There we go. You dont want to go to the edge. Yeah. Oh, man. I see what youre saying there. You dont want to become a victim yourself. Those are jumper cables. You see that. Whatever means necessary. It makes parenting a little harder. So you have to keep an eye on it. What shoulds parents do . The academy of pediatrics recommends for preschoolers, no recommends no screen time. Decide how you want to use it. There is an app that allows you to limb the time and put age grouping around the parent stuff but every minute there are 400 hours of new content going on youtube, so you cant count on that app screening everything out so you want to make sure youtube is designed for kids 13 and older. You want to make sure youre watching the videos with your kids first and watching them together. And then the most important thing is turn it off and let your kids play these things in the real world. Maybe there is an idea there and you can turn it into a creative project so its not so, use it as a jumping off point. So their life isnt there. Good morning, jessie, good morning, karen. Good morning. Now, jessie, youve been doing this for eight years. What was your inspiration to give away toys to the kids . I tell you what inspired me was i was watching tv and i saw children in the hospital and i saw children in all in all around the world and i look on the tv and i was asking myself what can i do for the children . To put a smile on their faces and god put in my heart, so i decided to buy toys to put a smile on the children so that inspired me what i saw on the tv. What youre doing is inspiring everybody else, putting a smile on our faces as well and, karen, you work with jessie at the hospital and you know how special she is. How incredible she is so give us a little bit more. Im sure she doesnt want to brag on herself. Im happy to brag about her. So, jessie has been doing this for the past eight years and were just so, so appreciative to be able to benefit from her generous gift. The children could not be happier here to receive these gifts. Its not easy for patients and families to be in the hospital at christmastime and just to know that somebody is thinking of them from our community is so heartwarming and we couldnt be more blessed to have jessie think of us every year. Jessie, you dont have kids of your own but you have adopted these kids at the hospital so how does it make you feel when you give them their toys and you see their faces light up . I feel wonderful. I feel great. And i feel at peace because what i do is to put a smile on their face of a child who is going through so much, whatever the pain they might go through, so i try to calm that pain with whatever helps. I decided to do something for them to put a smile on their face and it makes me feel great inside me. I feel so wonderful and so blessed to have this opportunity to help these children and continuing helping these children as long as i live. Lets put a smile on those kids with you and put a smile on their face. Go ahead and give them their toys you got hidden over there. Yes, yes, yes. Are you dead di . All right. Whoo. Lets go. Apparently he wasnt great in terms of sort of, you know, the ins and outs of it but he obviously he had the vision and pulled everyone together plus i guess, you know, im an actor. Yeah. Thats true. And speaking of your acting chops, think new movie assas n assassins creed. You trained a lot for the role. But before you hit it big you said you would challenge yourself with different stunts so what did you like to do . Before i was yeah, when i was an out of work actor i had little challenges. One of them was to dive off the tenmeter block in the swimming pool, you know. You got a diver right there. It hurts. I was up at the top. It took me age, i was looking down. Look too long, its not going to happen and these kids were coming up like 10, 11 years old and launching themselves off sideway, flipping. And i was still up there. They came back up again and theyre like they all went water wings on. They all went flying off the edge except one kid was like, you havent gone off yet, have you. I was like no and hes like are you scared. I was like yep. He said i was scared the first time. Go for it. Youll hurt yourself a little bit but youll be okay. I took his advice and he was right. I hurt myself a little bit but, not as pump as i thought. You hold your own in this new movie and we have a look at it right now. Lets take a look. What do you want from me . Listen to me carefully. Allows you to time travel through your genetic code which is cool. The concept around the game which i think is really plausible within our dna we have the knowledge and experience of our ancestors.
