We want you to take a look at these images right now. The newly installed b. A. R. T. Cameras captured these pictures of the suspect inside of the train. Wednesday, 7 30 in the evening, b. A. R. T. Police say the man in this images approached another passenger and struck him in the head with a metal object. Witnesses say the suspect then punched and kicked the victim before running off the train and out of the station. The victim was transported to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. On saturday, again around 7 30 in the evening, the same suspect punched a passenger in the face two times. The suspect then bolted from the train at the embarcadero station. According to the chronicle, in the first half of this year, there was a 35 increase in robberies. And a 27 increase in assaults like you heard tiffany just describe. Thats compared to the same time period of last year. The chronicle also reports there was a 23 decrease in felony arrests. Police arrested 132 people for felony crimes from january through june compared to 171 during the same time last year. 5 03 now. Happening today, the start of motions in the kate steinle murder trial. On friday, the judge was chosen to preside over todays arguments over what evidence should be allowed in the trial. The judge could also set a date for jury selection. Juan Francisco Lopez sanchez is accused of killing steinle two years ago. The killing sparked a National Debate over sanctuary cities and immigration. Oakland police are investigating a shooting that left as many as six people hurt. Was first reported on e street between 105th and 106 avenues late yesterday afternoon. Some victims were taken to hospitals by civilians and others by ambulance. Police do not believe any of the injuries are life threatening. No word on suspects or motive for this shooting. A berkeley man credited with saving his neighbors life after running into a burning building to rescue him. The twoalarm fire started on addison street between sacramento and acton. A man heard a resident yelling out for help, so he ran in to help get him outside before First Responders got there. The victim was taken to the hospital to be treated for burns. Hes a northwestern University Professor suspected of stabbing a 27yearold man. Matt keller is live in dublin. Reporter that associate professor was under intensive observation in jail over the weekend. He is scheduled to be in court later this morning here in dublin. The two men were on the run for eight days before they turned themselves in to bay area authorities last week. 42yearold Wyndham Lathem is an associate professor at northwestern university. The other suspect is andrew warren. Hes a treasury assistant at one of oxfords residential colleges in england. Warren is in jail in San Francisco. Theyre accused in the stabbing death of 26yearold cause motologist Trenton Cornell in chicago. Police found his body inside professor lathems apartment about a week and a half ago. Guys arent caught and theres a murder seven floors beneath us. Kind of weird. Now that theyre in custody, well sleep better at night. Friends say prior to his death, they were dating and he wanted out of the relationship. Warren had arrived in the u. S. Just three days before the homicide. Lathem is expected to waive extradition and be sent back to illinois by the end of this week. Reporting live in dublin, matt keller, abc7 news. Happening today, one of two suspectses accused in a child sex abuse case is expected to enter a ple in the south bay. 56yeaol Michael Kellar is scheduled to appear in court at 9 00 this morning. He was arrested a week ago at Mineta San Jose International after getting off a flight. Investigators say he sent messages about sex abuse to the second suspect. A fellow passenger actually saw the disturbing messages and told the flight crew. Police say two yearn ching have been identified as victims. A man is recovering in the hospital this morning after a twoalarm fire burned an aparment building in berkeley. It could have been so much worse if it wasnt for the quick actions of one brave neighbor. The fire started around 7 15 last night on addison street. At one point, all 27 units were evacuated, but still in the building was a man lying on the floor yelling for help. A man who lives in the building next door saw the smoke and ran to help the man get outside before rescuers got there. Started yelling for him, get up, get out. Finally, he kind of snapped out of it and came to. So i said, dont worry about your stuff wrrbs just get up and get out. Hihands were all burned. I just felt like i had to get in there and help someone, so i did. The victim was taken to the hospital to be treated for burns. The red cross is helping residents of three units who were displaced by the fire. Firefighters are expected to make a final sweep at the grazely fire in the east bay hills. 20 acres burned when the fire broke out wednesday afternoon. Half of the fire was on oakland land, and the other half on land earn owned by the Lawrence Berkeley national center. The 58acre calgary fire is 45 contained this morning. They have forced the mandatory evacuation of hundreds of residents. Hard work by firefighters have saved 300 homes. Five were destroyed. Hayward Police Arrest a man accused of stealing a truck and opening fire on the owner. The man was visiting a friend when he heard the engine of his truck starting up. He ran outside to find his truck was being stolen his friendss truck to chase the suspect. Thats when the suspect pulled out a gun. I bulled up to the back, said, hey, thats my truck. He said soandso you and pulled out a gun and shot. He took off and i didnt bother to follow after that. Wow. Hayward Police Chased the suspect thugh city streets where he crashed into several stars. At one point, police say he drove toward officers. One officer opened fire and missed the suspect who then crashed the stolen truck and was arrested. A woman and child are recovering from injuries they suffered when a huge tree branch snapped and then fell on top of them. They were at a Company Picnic in Menlo College saturday afternoon. Dozens of people below an oak tree suddenly heard a loud cracking sound. They got out of the way just before the limb came crashing down. As a result of several years of drought and then a winter of heavy rain contributed to the limb breaking. Firefighters say the tree was probably unstable from absorbing months of rain water. They say trees all over the b area may be in similar shape and they advice calling in an arborist if youre concerned about a tree on your property.
