Let Cindy be tempted let me take you this step further if you're not being tempted something's wrong with you spiritually Why would the devil waste his time on someone that is not a threat to his kingdom so if you've been coming under spiritual attack lately that could be an indication that you're on the right track and that you're a threat to the devil so let's sort of the question where does temptation come from now our immediate answer would be well the devil of course and there's truth to that but we need to understand we play a key role in our own temptation less than Satan needs our cooperation in this area to give in to temptation where there is no desire on my part there is no temptation we blame a lot of things on the devil and rightly so but we too are responsible now if you stop and think about the last time you gave in the end these sin chances are it started right here started right here in your imagination and then it lead to action that's why it says in 2nd quit the ends 113 I'm afraid that as Eve was deceived by the serpents cunning your mind will somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ so it's your mind starts in your thinking so let's see what Jesus said now about how to deal with lusts and immorality and how to keep her mind clean Matthew chapter by verse 27 you've heard the commandment that says you must not commit adultery but I say who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart will stop there so Jesus is not talking about a casual glance here he's talking to a person who is engaged in a continual act of looking and this usage in this context of this is not talking about an incidental or involuntary glance but an intentional and repeated gazing with the express purpose of lusting. So it's not just oh well look there's a pretty girl or oh there's an attractive guy No it's not just that because you're going to notice that you know the difference is you know there's a pretty girl I'm going to go find a pretty girl or an attractive guy with the intention of lusting after them it's a different thing and this isn't just for men looking lustfully at women it's also for women looking lustfully at Ben or men looking less fully at men and women looking lustfully had women just anything outside of God's order and so if you look at a woman or a man to lust after her it's like committing adultery so what's a solution you're ready for it let's find it 1st 29 Jesus tells us what to do if you're i even if it is your good I causes you to lust gouge it out and throw it away if your arm causes you to send even your best arm cut it off well there you go. Sounds a good solution to me. Is a great you making fun of the Bible no I'm just. Pointing out that obviously Jesus is not speaking literally to I have to say that I hope you know even if I go down my right I could still sin with my left eye right even if I sin with my right arm I can still sin with my left arm or my left hand and so the heart of the problem is the problem of the heart using So it all comes down to the heart so what is Jesus saying and that's called her the right hand was considered the dominant and best hand sorry if you're a southpaw and the right eye I was considered the dominant and the best I so Jesus is a not just cut off your arm or pluck out your right but pluck out your best I cut off your dominant arm the point is simply this whatever would cause you to fall in this sin must be dealt with decisively and quickly this would be for instance let's say you have a struggle with your computer it's always when you go online you're looking at all this stuff Ok you can put filters on your computer you can give your password to other people so they can look at what you're looking at on your computer but let's just say that doesn't work you literally could get rid of your stinking computer if you had to if that's what it took to keep you from being trumped by love would that not be a practical step to take or how about your phone I think some people would rather cut off their right arm than give up their phone. But you know if your phone is your problem you know stink in trade in your smart phone and get one of those old school type phones that actually only make phone calls right remember those they still exist you can buy them you can't view media on them you can look at Instagram on them you can't post in them you actually use the phone to make phone calls and that's it had to we used to be the old. Now we carry these powerful computers around in our pocket that give us access to a lot of great things and a lot of really horrible things and so we have to be very careful but do what you need to do now you may have heard this story but there was a man who was out climbing rocks his name was Aron Ralston this happened a number of years ago that the film was made out of his life called 127 hours so Ralston was climbing in Utah when a boulder shifted pinning his arm he tried everything he could to get out from under this boulder nothing was working 2 days passed he was hungry he was thirsty he was cold he realized that nobody was coming to rescue him in the only way he could get out of there was he was going to have to take the worst step imaginable he was going to have to cut off his own arm if he wanted to live I guess he figured better to be alive with only one arm than dead with 2. So he took radical action but it illustrates the point that Jesus is making do with needs to be done lay aside those things that would pull you down. Ok so now what is the best defense to use when lustful thoughts coming your way here is the Ensor it's the Word of God Remember when Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness he said that Jesus had been fasting for 40 days and 40 nights he won and she'd take that rock and turn it into a you know an In and Out burger well that some of the Bible says as it says a piece of bread but turn it into some food and cheese has responded it is written men should not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the Lord Oh the devil take him to a high point of the temple why don't you jump off of here and the angels will can't you Jesus says it is written You shall not tempt the Lord your God the devil tells him to fall down and worship Him in Jesus says it is written your words of the Lord God in him only show you serve how did Christ defend himself against the onslaught of temptation he used the word of God That's why you need to know scripture someone 19 verse 9 says How will young men cleanse as way by taking heat according to your word some 1911 says your word of I hid in the my heart that I might not sin against you look at the good thing to carry a Bible in your purse or in your briefcase but the best place to carry the word of God is in your heart carry it in your heart memorize it well I can memorize that yeah you can you memorize all kinds of stupid stuff all the time. You know you do I have jingles in my mind I was to go away stance in information that means nothing going back decades is launched in my brain don't tell me you can memorize God's Word I have verses in my mind memorize that I learned when I was 17 years old and they're still in the brain today and those are precious to me one of those verses is 1st Corinthians 1013 that may have been one of the 1st verses I have or memorized which says Oh man I forgot it now I remember. It says there is no temptation taken you but such as this come in the man but God who is faithful will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able but will with that temptation make a way of escape that you may be able to bear it so basically is saying whenever you've been tempted there was always a way out wasn't there there was always a way out sometimes it was as simple as the door the off button the terminations of a conversation or whatever it was there was always a way out and there is always a way out so memorize the Word of God fill your mind with the Word of God know the Word of God and sometimes I even quote it out loud when things come my way I'll quote scripture you know it's interesting because in the armor of God given to us in the fees insects were to take the helm of salvation and have our feet shot of the preparation of the gospel of peace and the shield of faith but what is our sword the sort of the Spirit and what is the sort of the Spirit who knows the word of God the sort of this spirit which is the Word of God It's the one sense of weapon God has given us in our spiritual armor and so when you're dealing with temptation you pull that sword out and you use that sword and you use the word of God and let it help you there's an old Puritan expression I read that I really like. It's the expulsive power of a new affection the expulsive power of a new affection What does that mean it means something is so powerful that it's more attractive to you than the other thing you want to get a child to drop something give them something better in it's place and they'll be playing with their with their vertices or playing with and then they go check this out who comes right. The new affection is the Lord the new affection is a relationship with Jesus the new affection is walking in closeness with him that's the expulsive power of a new affection expulsive meaning it pushes the old stuff out I don't want that stuff in my life anymore I don't want that garbage in my life anymore I have something far better in that place than the far better thing is knowing God. So let me close by asking Do you know God you may know about God but do you know God and you know him in a personal way see this is why Jesus came and died on the cross for our sins because we've all broken His commandments and we've all fallen short of his standards and we've all messed up every one of us have given in to temptation every one of us have done things we're ashamed of but here's the good news Jesus shed his blood for every sin you have ever committed and if you will it make sure sin no make excuses for it not blame it on someone else not even blaming it all on the double but own it say yeah no I did that I should have done it and if you'll turn from that repent of it and ask God to forgive you he will and maybe some of you need to do that right now maybe there's some of you here the don't have the confidence that Jesus is living inside of you you don't know for certain that if you were to die you would go to heaven but you would like to know that that can happen for you right now we're going to pray and I'm going to give you an opportunity to ask Christ to come into your life and an opportunity for others who may be of sin to ask the Lord to forgive them let's all be our heads for prayer Father thank you for loving us so much you sent Jesus Christ your Son to die on the cross and our planes. In writing this by Pastor Greg what do you think was the most surprising thing you learned about Johnny Cash Well I think I was sort of surprised by the extent of vias struggle with drugs that that really went through most of his life even into his later years and fed it means he just had a vulnerability for drugs it's not like he was ever a hard drug user like heroin or cocaine or something like that but he did struggle with these unfettered means and at times with alcohol as well I didn't know the extent of his struggle and then the other surprise was the extent of his faith how even at the peak of his career how he was looking for ways to leverage is fame leverage his success for the Gospel to tell people about Jesus Christ and how to come into a relationship with him many people don't realize that Johnny was a real student of the Bible in fact he was an ordained minister and he studied theology and he read the New Testament on audio I mean this was a man of the Bible who really knew Scripture very well in fact one of his closest friends was Billy Graham not just appearing on Billy's platforms and also Billy appeared in Johnny's television show but they became good friends and spent a lot of time together and they vacationed together Johnny and June and Billy and Ruth and so this was a wonderful friendship and relationship so I guess I was surprised by 2 things the extent of his sin and the depth of his faith and then his back to the contradiction of Johnny Cash he just sort of how shall I put it a different cat you know he was just not like your average guy but with his upbringing there's a huge success he had early in his career that has taken many a life. He has to be king of the or he has to tend the garden of God and do everything he can in leading and subduing the created order to put God's glorious power on display and he has the propagator of human life is the propagator of human life so God made the male and female that was God's design for marriage and procreation we've been talking about the fact that procreation exist in all of the animal world there was even a procreative capacity among the plants who reproduced by means of seed or seed in fruit a God gave man relational capacities and then God gave man a helper says in verse 7 of chapter 2 that God for man out of the dust of the ground breathed into his nostrils the breath of life he became a living being and as you read down this passage a little bit verse 18 the Lord God said it's not good for the man to be alone this isn't going to work because I'm going to have to keep creating people he can't have this I have to make a helper suitable for him now I know what most people think this means for somebody to do the dishes somebody to take out the trash somebody to make the bed that's not the kind of helper he needed help in one main thing and that was procreation propagation of the human race that was the issue here he needs a helper he needs a partner he needs a perfect match out of the ground of the Lord God formed everything but there was something different about the way he formed this helper back in verse 20. Looked all around his creation and there was no there wasn't a partner for Adam there wasn't wasn't anything in the created order that was at his level we need to keep affirming that now to be a human being is not to be a glorified animal it's to be an eternal being made in the image of God There was only one and that was Adam so God caused a deep sleep to fall on the man and he slipped. He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place and the Lord God fashioned into a woman the rib which he had taken from the man and broader to the man and the man said this is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh she should be called Woman because she was taken out of men for this cause a man shall leave his father and his mother and so cleave to his wife and they shall become one flesh in the man and his wife are both naked and were not ashamed what was there to be ashamed of wasn't any sin so x. Chromosomes and y. Chromosomes were well known to God even though they don't appear in the book of Genesis the male had the genetic material so that a female could be taken out of him and be genetically related to him in the same kind and then through relationship with her be able to procreate both male and female and so together they fulfill the Domine and mandate in verse $28.00 Be fruitful and multiply and subdue the earth fruitful and multiply that the technical word for that is fecundity it means the ability to procreate and by the way that's just all through Genesis I'm not going to take the time but you can Chapter 9 God bless know after the flood and his sons and said to them are right you got to carry on this original mandate be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth make babies in the vernacular produce children and in the 17th chapter of the Book of Genesis. Verse 16 speaks about Abraham and Sarah bless her and give you a son by her I'll bless her and she shall be a mother of nations kings and people shall come from her in verse 20 As for Ishmael I will bless him make him fruitful and multiply him exceedingly that's 2 to make you fruitful and multiply is the Old Testament expression for procreation So the male and female design would allow man to procreate which would allow Man wonderful wonderful responsibility and privilege of producing others in the image of God what an incredible credible blessing you bring a little baby into the world that's an eternal person made in the image of God That's And there's nothing like it there's absolutely nothing like it because that little life has a capacity for relationship or relationship and we have the privilege and the joy of enriching our own relationship in marriage by multiplying and bringing into that union others capable of deep personal communion conversation and fellowship we can enjoy with them the same personal relations that we enjoy with each other and therefore God is saying you can extend this dome Union over the face of the earth fill the earth Genesis 91 fill the earth same thing in Genesis 128 filled the earth God designed marriage one man one woman that's clear from what I read you at the end of chapter 2 the man leaves his father and mother clings to his wife they become one flesh and the way they become one flesh is in the life that comes from them. One Flesh could mean you have sexual intimacy one flesh could mean that you think alike and you do things together but that the truest and purest expression of one flesh is when both of you come together in one flash one life and that was man's mandate because in so doing man multiplies the image of God That's why we talk sold so strongly to Christian parents who have little children to understand the stewardship you have from God to bring that little one made in the image of God back to the knowledge of God through faith in Jesus Christ man then is created in the image of God He is created to be king of the earth he was created to be the propagator of life and finally he was created as the recipient of enjoyment God just wanted to bless Him It says it in verse $28.00 And God bless them God bless them he just wanted somebody he could bless you bless them how did he bless them well he blessed them with. He blessed them with the divine image he blessed them with the ability to have relationships he blessed them with personhood he blessed them with the ability to understand his creation he blessed them with the capability to know him as well as to know each other he blessed them with the ability to reproduce themselves and fill the earth with others made in the image of God and he blessed them one other way 1st $29.00 God said Behold I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth and every tree which has fruit yielding seed it shall be food for you now did you ever ask why it is that God fill this world with such a variety of food. Just on the plant side alone just fruits and vegetables take away man because there's no death at this point so man is a vegetarian when he's originally created but there seems to be absolutely no end to all the vegetation all that grows it hangs on trees for the joy of man I mean I've often thought God could have made a brown sky and brown water in a colorless world and rice. And so all you do all your life is eat rice or whatever else but why did God fill this world with such a vast array of plants and vegetables its fruits and vegetables just about every time I go to another culture another place in the world I I'm introduced to another thing that people get out of the ground and eat it's a pretty astonishing. Some of them I don't want to 2nd helping of but. That probably has more to do with how they're prepared than the what could be done for them you know like covering them with a lot of cheese or something. But I continue to be a major you know and God is accommodated this with another amazing human ability and that is the ability to taste you take that for granted don't you and the ability to smell you primarily think you taste but you really smell more than taste but God has given us the capability to taste certain things what a blessing so that we can literally just enjoy the immense bounty that God has provided for us. So Adam and Eve 1st word vegetarian they could eat every plant yielding seed on the surface of the earth every tree yielding fruit with seed in it was food for them and to every beast of the earth and every bird of the sky and everything that moves on the earth which has life I've given every green plant for food and it was so it was so again is that sort of punctuation statement that indicates this was the permanent established pattern man was a vegetarian and animals were also vegetarian at creation why because there was no death nothing died I think died God established this is the original fixed pattern it was permanent at that time it was so indicates its permanence Now there was just one exception chapter 2 verse 9 there was this tree of life in the midst of the garden this tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil also done in verse 16 and they were commanded you could you could eat from the garden anything you want but from the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil You shall not eat for in that day that you eat from it you should surely die they could eat the tree of life all they wanted to couldn't eat the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil to eat what was forbidden would devastate the original design producing death and decay was a sad story isn't it that's exactly exactly what they did chapter 3 tells a terrible story and we don't know how much time passed we don't know whether it was decades or whether it was hundreds of years but the time came when Eve was beguiled by the serpent the serpent lied to her and she bought the lie and she disobeyed God and she ate and then Adam knowingly disobeyed God and ate and every thing changed everything chapter 3 verse 19 all of a sudden taking care of the garden wasn't easy well that back to verse 17. Because you. Have eaten from the tree about which I commended you saying you should not eat from it curse it is the ground because of you and usually you know that all the days of your life thorns and thistles going to grow you shall eat the plants of the field by the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground your whole life is going to be one very very great challenge you're going to have to work hard for your food from vegetation that once was readily accessible to you and then in verse 21 says the Lord God made garments of skin and that's the 1st death in order to make a garment of skin God had to kill the animal God killed the 1st animal to cover the nakedness of that him and his wife down in chapter 4 and verse 4 Abel brought 1st ladies of the flock and their fat portions that means he brought an animal sacrifice killed an animal and the Lord had regard for Abel and is offering the Lord accepted the death of animals as a sacrifice which means animal and death was inaugurated by God acceptable to God within the framework of his sacrificial system because of course it pointed to the wages of sin which is death and God later allowed people to eat meat over in chapter 9 when Noah and his sons came out of the Ark God said be fruitful multiply and fill the earth Chapter 9 verse 2 and the fear of you and the terror of you shall be on every beast of the earth now all of a sudden you're going to be king of the earth you're going to have authority over these animals but they're not going to be amiable to that they're going to fear you every be severe their rebirth of the sky everything that creeps on the ground all the fish of the sea every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you I give all to you as I gave the green plants I don't think being a vegetarian is the Christian way it was originally that way but once there was sin God allowed people to eat meat. And I think that was very very important because God demonstrated through those deaths originally that there was death for sin death required of sacrifice death even required a substitute you know in the glorious millennial kingdom to come the question could come up is going to be the same well no animals are going to be tamed not wild but there will be some animals killed during the millennial kingdom for according to $40.00 to $48.00 there will be sacrifices held in the millennial temple so some of them will be killed at least for commemorative feasts in the millennial temple and sin will exist as I said in the millennium but there will be some return to the original design. The prophet Isaiah wants us to understand and I noted some reference to that earlier but he wants us to understand that the world will be to some degree different Macallan the bear will graze the young will lie down together in the lion will eat strong like an ox the nursing child will play by the whole of the cobra that we need a child will put his hand in the Vipers Dan and it won't be harmed so there's definitely going to be some reversal of the curse though it's not going to be total in Isaiah $6525.00 the wolf and the lamb shall graze together the lion shall eat strong like an ox it's cetera and a serpent will eat dust so there will be some changes well summing it up God created man in his own image created man to be king of the earth created man to procreate to propagate and fill the earth with others who would be made in the image of God created man to enjoy the bounty of his blessing and when that was all done verse 31 says And God saw all that he had made and behold it was very good. Not just the parts he's commented on the parts being good this time he says it's very good that's the 1st time and not so much the parts but he saw all that he had made again reiterating that he is the creator and the maker of everything no death because no evil and no sin and no fall in this folks that ends all possibility of evolution. Including any kind of theistic evolution which depends on death there was no death things weren't mutating and dying for billions of years during this time when God says a day he means an actual day and so you come to chapter 2 verse one thus the heavens and the earth were completed. And all their posts that's it folks there ain't no more that's the story. That started and ended. 32 verses. Gave us the complete picture of the created universe and all its wondrous perfection you believe that. God's word isn't. It's God's will. To give up Genesis one and 2 under the intimidating heat of science falsely so-called And I've been saying this all along you can't explain creation by any scientific process science is simply the observation of what is reality you look at reality and you conclude that this is what is going on there is nothing to observe about creation except that it's here how it got to where it is was not observable no one was there it's not repeatable it is not repeatable and by the way we know that because nothing new is created right since the original creation so the only way we can know what happened is to find out if the Creator gave us an eyewitness account which he did in Genesis one and 2 and what we've been trying to say is.
