City leaders say those pumping stations might be just as important as the levee because they will relieve the pressure that allowed storm sewer flood barriers. The newbo celebration is at the city market with music, food and drinks. The second event is party on the nobo side, and it goes all day saturday. Nobo refers to the part of newbo where floodwaters reached. Money for the businesses on the wet side of the temporary levees. The Cedar Rapids City Council also took another step today toward permanent flood protection. The Council Agreed to ask for bids for relocating underground utilities that are near the river in czech village. The city believes the work could cost four Million Dollars, and it would prepare the area for a permanent flood berm. Plans call for opening the bids in november. Today, the indiana governor spoke with supporters at the Des Moines Area Community college in newton. He touched on the hacked Clinton Emails that wikileaks recently posted. Iowa secretary of state paul pate november first. Pate says the goal is to give students hands on experience with the political system. So far around 200 schools have registered to participate. Minimum wage workers in polk county are getting a raise. The county supervisors voted in favor of raising the 2019. That will go up in three increments starting in april. People in dubuque now have an easy way to get information about police calls, arrests, and more. The website, police to citizen, involves the dubuque police, fire department, Dubuque County sheriffs office, and the 911 center. People can use the learn about service calls, police reports, and even information about wanted suspects. Now hopefully with this new website they can just jump on from the convenience of their home or place of business and have access to virtually everything they would have access to in the lobby. The 189 Million Dollar southwest arterial project in dubuque is now underway. Its a project that the city Council Hopes fixes traffic issues on highway 20. Kcrg tv nines Katie Wiedemann says the southwest arterial will create a bypass around the most congested part of the city. Work is already underway on the southwest arterial. This highway for as long as i can remember. Its been the citys top priority for nearly 30 years. The new bypass is expected to relieve truck traffic on the two highways that run through the center of the city. Right now drivers use highways 20 and 52 or kelly lane and cedar cross road to get across town. They city says theres an average of 385 crashes on those roads each year. Drivers will only be able to get on and off the arterial via interchanges. No will save drivers time. The majority of people use our local roads, residential and neighborhoods, like kelly lane. Its going to get all that traffic off our local street network. Two lanes of the southwest arterial are expected to be complete in 2019. The other two lanes will be graded and ready to be paved. But right now there isnt money set aside to complete those lanes. You may remember about three years ago when the southwest arterial officially became a dot project, they highways would be re named. Parts of highway 52 would become highway 3 and parts of highway 20 would become highway 52. And that wont happen until the southwest arterial is complete. Linnmar High School Students money in their lunch accounts. This year the district fine tuned its policy for school lunch payments. Yes, i spoke to students who say they knew their lunch balance was running low. But had to again remind and sometimes, the parents forget. The district says it reminds students of their balance discreetly at the check out line. Students pay for lunch through their student id, this is connected to an account that parents can deposit money into. This system also protects students privacy if they qualify for free lunches. Parents are also sent an email when the balance reaches about 15. But if the balance reaches zero, or goes negative, then the student goes without lunch. 29 43, and they would continue to receive notifications until the funds were in this case, for a family of two students, they would receive a minimum or 4 maybe 5 emails before there was a negative reflection on the account younger kids, like those in Elementary School and middle school, dont go hungry if their lunch accounts are empty.
