jennifer webber told me today she's a life long, die-hard hawkeye fan. that's why when her family's flight to pasadena got cancelled, they decided to pack up the car and drive 27 hours to get there. on wednesday, the webber family was suppose to fly from dubuque to chicago to la. but the airline cancelled their flight from chicago to la. so they packed up the car and hit the road. they took the southern route, got caught in an ice storm, witnessed a semi explode along the highway. and now they plan to arrive late this evening. were there. they've got a great team right now and we want to be a part of this. it's been the perfect season." when we last checked in with the webber's, they were in new mexico and were expecting to get to pasadena at 10-07 tonight. they say they missed yesterday's hawkeye huddle and today's rally at the u-s-s iowa. but they'll be ready to tailgate tomorrow afternoon. chris. thanks, katie. people spending new year's eve in downtown dubuque have a new option for getting home this year. for the first time, the jule's nightrider service will run on new year's eve. city transit manager candace eudaley says the service will run as a result of requests from riders. nightrider service typically only runs on friday and saturday nights. a major shake up in republican presidential candidate ben carson's campaign today. communications director doug watts have left the campaign. bennett says he left because carson was listening more to his longtime business manager than to his paid campaign staff. and he says it raises questions in his mind about the kind of president carson would be if elected. carson has struggled in the polls since october. he's been a distant 4th in iowa polling for weeks. the week between christmas and new year's is a time for time off for many... and extra trash from just about everyone. but landfill operators hope the word gets out about what can and can not be recycled. the cedar rapids and linn county solid waste agency saw a major increase in recycling drop offs this week as people clear out the holiday debris. people who got new t-v's last week can recycle their old one for a $5 fee. but one concern is wrapping paper. it's not the same as other paper that can be recycled. "that's one of the biggest questions this time of year... what do i do with wrapping paper what do i do with styrofoam. we just tell everyone throw it away... those materials can recycling center workers try to intercept any of the "wrong" materials before they go into the piles of material headed for recycling sorting. broken christmas lights can be recycled for free as electronic waste. we're less than 24 hours away from the rose bowl game in pasadena. and while one player won't be suiting up because of a torn a-c-l... the influence of drew ott will resonate through the team. stay with tv9. "it was a pretty tough couple of weeks there, but you get over it, move on and start rehabbing." "kind of heart- wrenching what's happened to him quite frankly. to go through a couple of significant injuries like that." "we all saw him having a great year. everybody in the program, every player, every coach had a total belief that he was going to have a successful year and really come out and do it this year. for it to end the way it did, that was really heartbreaking for everybody."ott has rehabbed hard in hopes of being granted a medical hardship. "i think it would just get me more experience. i think it would help me out in the long run. it'd just be nice to get a senior year here." "whatever rehab schedule the doctors give him, he's going to beat that by days or weeks. that's just how he's wired, he's extremely mentally tough." "we just hope he has that opportunity. it goes beyond just looking at numbers, you really need to find out exactly about the person, the injury, how his career path went exactly."drew might no be able to help the team out on the field but he remains one the captains and is a real leader off the field coaching from the sidelines. "i just try to give them my advice and what helped me when i was playing. and try to convey that message to them." "how about his eyes on the sidelines, he can see things help you when you get back?" "they would recap the monday night football every tuesday morning. they would sit at their tables and chat about who did what and they were always interested in sports and that's what they did at recess and that's what they talked about, so i'm not surprised that he's a hawkeye." "i still remember like it was yesterday. he scored five different ways. he ran for a touchdown. he threw one. he caught one. he returned a returned an interception for a touchdown, and it was halftime. i remember kind of scratching my head going, 'i thought he'd be good, but this might be something special.'" the flag football star then grew into a high school all-stater at waukon, sometimes making it look pretty easy. "if you look at his stats from his senior year and his high school career it's like video game numbers. it's pretty neat." parker then caught the eye of the iowa hawkeyes and now he's probably the most famous person in town. "we made a gingerbread and one of them turned into number forty for the hawkeyes. it's really cute." "you look around school and there are hawkeye shirts with #40 and "hesse" on the back, and that's kind of neat to see. there's a lot of pride up here in seeing him do what he's doing." but to those who know him best, he's just parker. "there are people who are like, 'i wish i could get parker's autograph' and it's like, 'ok'...his brothers always say, 'we have to go watch parker walk? we can watch him walk at home.'" "he's certainly got a lot of fame around here. it's weird to think of him that way, the same person that comes home on holidays and on weekends."
