Others, the number on your screen. We welcome your comments as well. A couple here. From eric, who posts, i like the direction, with the cooperation between nasa and spacex. More of that, reusing rockets, in solar and fusion power, completely different view from tony. Cut the Space Program. Dont need any of their science projects anyway. Thoughts. Your thoughtsful to jeff too, talking earlier with space news about a possible new administrator at this reporttioned as we were doing the conversation. Briedenstein, the congressman from oklahoma, is mentioned. Nasa reporting that the Trump Administration has chosen the administrator. The new nasa administrator will be jim. A republicanently member of congress. John schumacher, a senior aerojet. At once the president makes the announcement, and he hasnt yet, hearings. T senate baker, west virginia. Michael, your thoughts on the program . The space i think its one of the most important things, if not the most important thing, we should be doing. The legitimate functions of government do include, among things, developing frontiers and nobody is going to care about Climate Change or any other things if civilization collapses, because anythingno longer has to work with. We that will happen, unless start digging minerals out of the moon and other bodies soon enough. Well, do you think, michael, that the issue of Climate Change is part of the realm of nasas research . They do research on it now in programrthsciences through nasa. Well, yes, and im okay with that. But if we run out of resources dont have space colonies, then industry will to work with. Well be living like mad max and nobody is going to care about that anymore. Okay. Lets go to palm coast, florida. From christopher. Good afternoon. Didnted to make sure that i reach out, because this is a inment conversation, one. Number number one. Number two, the solar system is actually in stands, just like our u. V. , coming from the sun, little bit stronger, due to the fact of our increased Climate Change. But in the same sense, our population has actually increased, so therefore whats wrong with colonization, and we expand from actually our world, there isnt nothing wrong with that, because technically, in our technology era, were actually at that stage, so people are getting used to understanding that our technology is actually a lot justrelevant than basically a guessing game. Thats all i wanted to share. Okay. Thoughts on your the future of the Space Program. Of course, monday, the first continental Solar Eclipse in the United States coast to coast in years. Coverage here beginning on cspan monday at 7 a. M. Eastern. 2027488001, the number to call for republicans. 2027488000, democrats. All others,. Good afternoon, on our democrats line. Go ahead. Dan, you there . Birmingham, jeff, in alabama. Thank you. Change, oneclimate of the things id like to see would be spacebased solar power. Individualsveral who want to see very large structures in space. I do support the space launch system, even elon musk conceded earlye lucky if the falcon even gets away from the pad, if you do your research. Spacebased solar power would largersome of these power platforms that were going to need to go to mars. Rising tide. S a we are going to be running out of fossil fuels at some point in time. Spacebased solar power is something that can be used for several different types of technologies. Theres some folks on the west coast that want to have a called destar. So having very large structures in space, and the continued use launch vehicle, so to quit trying to kill it, because they have this idea that everything government does bad and everything private industry does is great. Weve got to get past that religion. Going to solve our problems by shooting ourselves we can rollcaps, so withto the caves again alleyoop and al gore. We need to go to the future. This mindset that if we just live in sack cloth and thats dangerous too. Both sides of the spectrum worry me. Jeff, let me ask you. Youre calling from birmingham, alabama. Footprint pretty good in birmingham, dont they . Its huntsville. Bit more little involved than some of the hillbillies that we have to deal south. Rther appreciate you weighing in. Pennsylvania, we hear from ted on our republican line. Go ahead, ted. Mute your television. Comments. Ith your ted in pennsylvania. Okay. I wonder, as things go on, going to have major countries that are footing the states, russiaed and china. A Little Country like tahiti, to get an even slice of everything that goes is that going to be resolved . Maybe it should be resolved before we get too involved in it. Of our earlier callers anding about elon musk private space ventures. This is a piece from nbc news saying, so you want to be a tourist . One of those options talking about spacex. Musks company. The dragon cargo craft there, approaching the international station in one of their resupply missions. From derry, new hampshire. Hello to michael on the independent line. Hello. Yes. Hi. My comment is, after i love the technology in space and all that stuff, but i really think the manned missions really should not be going forward, thats out radiation there, the lack of oxygen, the amount of energy and time and spendthat were going to to go out there and find nothing, i mean, send all the robots you want. Go, you know. To thats all i wanted to say. Michael, you say send all the want. You do you think its a mission or something that the u. S. That the government should undertake in terms of seeing space as a new frontier . In other words, the government taking the mission in exploring taking the exploring in exoplanets sure. Colleges, spread it around like we do all the military stuff. But to send people out there, i thats going to end in think. , i cami is next. Go ahead. My comment is mainly that if our government isnt going to pick up the future of the space industrythen private like spacex and other people who are very interested in keeping alive is where were looking like where were going, because the gonnacal atmosphere isnt help any of this. Thats cami in las vegas. Seekingcspan, were your thoughts on the future of the Space Program, the future of nasa. We welcome your tweets as well at cspan. Eric tweets the Space Program hopeful vision of a peaceful, longterm life of humanity, inspirational. Heres kelly in madison, wisconsin. Kelly, go ahead. Youre on the air. Youre on the air. Hello. Sure you mute your television. Go ahead with your comments, kelly. Charlie. Ly, im im not kelly. Okay. Charlie, sorry about that. Ha ha right. All theen, im a veteran of navy. And i love the Space Program. And i think the world of it. Thats where its coming from here. Sure what to think about it at the moment. On the is in virginia, independent line. Hi, john. Hi you know, i work with a lot of thats probably something ill say, as far as my job, that are involved in the Space Program. Know, its kind of hard. A lot of people i talk to arent sos andamiliar with orion. If im speaking to them in the public or in the d. C. Area, where space is such a prevalent thing. One thing we can look at is the kind of internal space race for the United States. We have these private companies, with nasa, and you know, if you space race back in the cold war era, it really brought a lot of technological influences that brought us things like our cell phone that we have today. And eventually the space shuttle. So i think that its very important to educate a lot of this kind of stuff, because, you know, thats where we get the influences for our Space Program. It helps us excel. Appreciate your thoughts. A couple more minutes of your calls. Lets hear from clay, in friends friendswood, texas. Hello there. Going . S it so friendswood is pretty close to Johnson Space center. I guess im a little biased in my opinion of the Space Program. A young republican, republican, i didnt grow up in the space race era. But, you know, me and my dad, were very critical of guys like who want to gut the program and just have nothing to publicfunded space exploration. But my kind of view of it is, to know, were going to have leave earth one of these days, you know. Its not something we can just off. We are going to have to conquer the new frontier at some point. We talk about private, public funding of it, i think, the government wants to subsidize Companies Like spacex to kind of do that public duty in an efficient, private sense yeah. That. All for but also, there is something nationally unifying of a nasa, you know. When we look at the news and stuff like that, how divided we nowadays, intry, feel like having something we can all rally around is very a nationalor identity, just kind of unity in general. Think that, say, Something Like the idea of going to mars should be the same sort we had back in the 1960s of putting a man on the moon . Sort of national beertaking that nasa should pushing most strongly . Um. For the, i guess, ideological victory of it, maybe not, if there isnt i guess. End gain, you know, conquering the moon, because we were racing against the russians. Mars justoing to because, i dont think thats necessarily a very good reason. But i was reading an article a effortso about theres theollect asteroids for precious metals, for industrial uses on earth. In terms of public funding, i think thats something kind of going back to know, ing earlier, you were gonna have to you know, limited resources here on earth. Theres only so many. So i think maybe having a mars kind of rallyo is, you know its possible, you know. I would be fine with that, i think getting ofmars is important in terms pushing us to maybe get those industrial applications. Thanks for weighing in this afternoon. A couple more of your calls. We didnt want to point out too couple of facebook posts. Facebook. Com cspan, your of thes on the future Space Program. Rebecca writes, i dont believe nasa. Ers should fund let the 1 fund it if they want it. Space programhe under democrats leadership. Shell. S a a reminder too the Budget Hearing from the Senate Appropriations subcommittee, all of that at cspan. Org. John is next in new york. John. John, make sure you mute your television and then go ahead your comments. Hello. Taking personally that money to fund this mars is ridiculous. Its a big dead rat. Thisve so many problems in world that we arent dealing with. What good does it do . You landed somebody on mars, you cant use that for a go farther. Theres its the next of billions ofs miles. Its honestly, its a waste of money. Now, if somebody wants to do it privately, thats great. But for the government to do it, a good ideak its at all. Thank you. Kathy in washington. Yes. I believe in the program i give 100 ly and donations if i need to, because 1954, a bunch of us saw a ufo i want to knowd where they came from. And so they got my support. As far as im concerned. All right. Lets get one more call here. Is what the Senate Subcommittee has approved for year. Or next dickinson, texas. This is kenneth. Kenneth. Dickinson, texas. Youre on the air. Go ahead. Yes, sir. Nasae reports to counterintelligence, spaced out of stationed out of johnson in houston, here texas. And i believe that nasa needs to advise American People that we alone. We have never been alone. And that there is Alien Technology available to move us into outer space. Thats kenneth. Kenneth. Kenneth. Dickinson, texas. Thanks for your call.
