The most Famous Coconspirator in an indictment probably was Richard Nixon in the watergate affair. He was never indicted but he was clearly listed as a coconspirator with respect to some of the charges that were brought. So, this is something they do in the early stages of a case. this . Well, i think mueller keeps pushing ahead. I think the bigger issue theyre saying its our way or the highway on how this is going to go. Giuliani is defending his client in the court of public opinion. He has an obligation to do that. Hes said this at time, hes Poisoning The Well and hoping the republicans somehow control congress and theres no impeachment here. If youre giuliani and paul can attest to this, you have a client like trump, you avoid that interview. You try to eliminate that interview. You dont let him get anywhere near mueller because you know it will lead to very bad things. I was talking to one of our attorneys last hour, he thinks this whole thing is a total ruse. He and giuliani are on earlier today talking about how they
responded to this mueller interview and he says that the ball is now in muellers court. Listen to this. We do not want to run into the november elections. So back up from that, this should be over with by september 1st. We have now given him an answer. Obviously he should take a few days to consider it. But we should get this resolved if theres going to be an interview, lets have it. If theres not going to be an interview, let him write his report. Hes got all the information that he needs. The interview will provide nothing in addition to what he already has. So quickly to my lawyers, this is not going to be over september 1st. No. Theres a trial set tr september. Theres no way the investigation can be over by september 1st. So whats the play from giulianis perspective. Is he like we want to show the American People we are willing to cooperate, we want this over with. Hey, it will be over september 1. Its a nothing to see here approach, however giuliani has changed his story a number of times. Theyve been negotiating i believe since january on this interview. It would be one thing if they stayed consistent. But giuliani has been all over the place giving various reasons as to why the president shouldnt give the interview, including he has to deal with north korea, its a valid excuse but the excuse always changes. In january, just harking back to that, i was looking up there was an article by the New York Times Maggie Haberman in january saying that giuliani said we were going to wrap this up in two weeks in january. Okay . They were down to the final negotiations. So all of this is a Publicity Stunt so they can say to the base the president wants to tell his story but the evil mueller, you know, made unreasonable demands on him. The president does want to talk. Mueller wants to interview him. Trump says he wants to be interviewed. If this doesnt happen before september 1st, this is trumps lawyers fault. Back to Breaking News, Chris Collins was just arraigned at a federal courthouse in new york over insider trading. Brynn gingras is there outside that courthouse. It just wrapped up. What happened. Brooke, were getting word that the three men the congressman, his 25yearold son cameron and camerons soon to be fatherinlaw all pleaded not guilty to those 13 counts of securities fraud, wire fraud and lying to the fbi. But i want to bring in mark morales was inside the courthouse when the men were standing before the judge. Can you paint a picture of what their demeanor was . They were fairly calm. They came out. Christopher collins was wearing a dark blue suit, white shirt, no tie. Neither one of them had their hands cuffed in front of them. They all addressed the judge when the judge asked them how they pled. Christopher collins said i plead not guilty and went down the line, not guilty. They read the documents and understood what their charges were. The simple not guilty. Weve seen statements from the congressman and seen them from the sons attorney as well. About what the fatherinlaws son . Not in the at the court. Neither one of the attorneys really addressed anything or really spoke too much. This was very procedural. They waived the reading of the charges. And the judge set the next date for when they would be back in court. Discovery was also discussed. They were also issued 500,000 personal recognizance bond. Were not clear, brooke, if theyre going to walk out that front door where everybody is waiting, but right now theyre going through that signing of documents. Right. As soon as they figure out what the paperwork is and everything gets processed they should be able to leave. They have two weeks to turn over travel documents, the congressman has to turn over his Diplomatic Passport as well. And once they get all the money squared away, everything should be out. Brooke, one more thing i want to quickly mention because you brought up the drain the swamp comments, we asked the u. S. Attorney in our News Conference about two hours ago, you know, is there more indictments to follow. We have heard that maybe others were invested in the stock as well. court. Any discussion of that in front of judge . No, nothing of that nature. Not anything during the court appearance. It was very procedural. This is another round of sanctions and constitutes another punishment for russia being believed to be behind the poisonings of that former spy who is then a uk citizen on uk
soil. Its the attempted assassination of Sergey Scruple and his daughter. Two additional people were affected by this nerve agent that was used. One of those people died in this attack. So already the Trump Administration has expelled 60 Russian Diplomats from the u. S. Over this. Now theyre taking additional measures by imposing sanctions. So it needs to go through a process. They really needed to do this under a particular law against the use of Chemical Weapons. So this is them looking at the law saying, yes, this qualifies. We are going to impose sanctions. It needs to go through congressional review, though. So by the ends of the month we expect to see these sanctions enacted. Also we expect to hear more about who exactly is going to be targeted. Is it going to be the suspects that the uk believes is behind this . Is it going to be people believed to be involved with the creation of Chemical Weapons or the production of them . Well have to wait and see on that. We expect more information
today. But keep in mind, this is the Trump Administration taking additional action against russia. Even though the president himself did not call out russia for this Chemical Attack when he was standing there side by side with Vladimir Putin in helsinki just weeks ago, among other behaviors that he did not call out russia for, his administration has shown themselves willing on a number of occasions now to take action, to punish russia for things like this. Didnt call them out a couple weeks ago, elise. Also, weve known about this case. And everyone knew it was russia months ago. So why issue these sanctions now . As michelle said, brooke, its one thing to say they suspect that russia is involved, that they have intelligence that russia was involved and there have been actions taken against russian oligarchs and been these expulsions, but when you meet and try to meet legal criteria for a violation of this 1991 law about chemical and biological
use, to meet that legal criteria takes a long time. Lawyers have to see whether it meets it. A lot of things are involved in terms of a technical examination. And so, you know, you might think its political expediency that right now theres a lot of tension against russia or lot of talk about letters between President Trump and president putin going back and forth. This could have just as easily come on the day of President Trumps press conference with Vladimir Putin. Thats how these things a lot of it is mostly coincidental. Prosecutors say Congressman Collins found out about a failed drug trial conducted by a Pharmaceutical Company whose board he sits on. Collins then allegedly shared that information with his son who then allegedly traded on the news before it was made public. The House Ethics Committee is not commenting for now, but we know the speaker of the house, paul ryan, has already removed collins from a top congressional committee. So with me now, charlie dent, cnn political commentator and former congressman who chaired the House Ethics Committee. Congressman, good to have you on. And, you know, you have worked with this congressman in the past, but this notion that he stood there at i think it was a congressional picnic at the white house, gets the call from the Pharmaceutical Company that the drug is no good, calls up his son, again from the white house, to essentially according to prosecutors, tip him off that
he needs to sell the stock. How would you characterize that decision . Well, i guess it goes under the category you cant make this stuff up. There you go. First, this is whats going to happen. I dont know the facts of the case. I know Chris Collins. His challenges now are not so much ethical as they are legal. What will happen to him in congress, theyre not going to comment but what theyre likely do is establish an investigative Sub Committee and that will be announced probably within shortly. Theyll announce an investigative Sub Committee. I suspect the Department Of Justice will ask the Ethics Committee to defer this investigation to them. The Ethics Committee will likely honor that request from the Justice Department. They dont have to, but that has typically been the case. And then, of course, then the Justice Department will move at its pace. If there is a conviction, if
there were to be a conviction, or a plea, plead guilty, then obviously the Ethics Committee would follow up after that. But if theres some kind of conviction, typically the member will end up resigning. Okay. Okay. Just tell me, as a former member of congress, what sort of seminars orientations would members of congress have to sit through just to know that this is something you dont do . Well, we do provide Ethics Training for members but it often talks about things like separating your campaign from your official business. Making sure you have strong firewalls. How you treat your employees. All sorts of things about house rules and how you should comply. We really dont Advise Members on things that could be of a criminal nature. Now, i often tell people that if you violate if you violate house rules, that does not make
it a criminal matter. The Ethics Committee does not investigate crimes per se. Thats what the o. J. Is for. Ethical matters can quickly become criminal matters if not handled properly. So again, these are serious charges. Congressman collins should be afforded the Presumption Of Innocence and let him make his defense. But until then, hes going to have a lot to deal with. Politically speaking, this is someone we have certainly seen on television supporting President Trump. First sitting member of congress to endorse then Candidate Trump and also now yet another key player in the trump orbit facing legal woes. Yes. Again, this is unfortunate, although hes of course not Congressman Collins is not a part of the administration. Clearly very strong a trump ally. Correct. He is that. But, yes, look, people like to refer to congress as the swamp. And when issues like this arise of Course Congress is criticized collectively. Its super swampy, congressman. The allegations. Yeah. Yeah, but let me just Say Something in defense of my former colleagues, most of them i think are very honorable people. They do things the right way. They really try hard to abide by all rules and laws and are good, honorable people. And from time to time, weve seen issues where members have gotten in trouble. Im sitting here in philadelphia. It wasnt that long ago the congressman who represented this area was convicted and was in prison, i believe, as we speak and other members, former members, have gotten themselves into trouble. So weve seen this before. Its sad occurrence when it happens. But the wheels of justice will grind on and hopefully will come to a fair and just resolution in this matter. While i have you just separately on the news we broke
on the Trump Administration now placing sanctions on russia in response to the poisoning with the nerve agent, the former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter, again this is something that president did not call out putin when he was with him in helsinki a couple weeks ago, let alone this happened a couple months ago, but still your response this today. Well, its certainly appropriate to enhance sanctions on russia for their very bad behavior. And after the helsinki summit, that was a debacle, its important that the president step up and launch these sanctions against the russians, further sanctions. Again, this is mystifying to so many in the country and in congress about why the president has such conciliatory language towards Vladimir Putin when putins russia is doing everything it can to undermine American Interest throughout the world and of course you just pointed out the poisoning of the
individuals in the uk. So its just further evidence of it. So these sanctions are appropriate. Im glad the administration has stepped up and well see how congress reacts. starving children. Those adults making their first Court Appearances today. Authorities raiding the compound last week in search of a missing child with severe medical problems. A couple, whose land the compound sits on, told local and state Law Enforcement months ago they believe they saw this missing child back in either january or february. Now the same couple is wondering why Law Enforcement waited until last friday to carry out the raid. They were dragging their feet. They were taking too long. Even if they were trying to build a case or whatnot, you know, a childs life is at stake. There was no excuse. I had no probable cause to give a Search Warrant to go on to this property. In hindsight there was, but we would not have been there lawfully. Scott mcclain is there for us in new mexico. Scott, you received a copy of the Search Warrant. Tell me what youre learning act this compound and the motives
there. Hey, brooke. Couple things were learning from these Court Documents now. The Search Warrant indicates that the sheriffs deputies got some information from the family and Child Services essentially here in new mexico who had spoken to some of these children. Two of them apparently, again according to this Search Warrant document, had told them that this child, this missing then 3yearold would have been 4yearold child had died and that his uncle, lucas morton, not his father, had actually washed his body twice, as is the islamic tradition and buried him either in a tunnel that we saw on this compound that probably stretched for about 40 yards, or in the toilet area. And so thats one thing that were learning from the Search Warrant. But last week, brooke, the sheriff here, the local sheriff, said that he believed that the folks on this compound, the adults at least were extremists
of islamic belief. But when he was pressed on that he did not follow up. But now we are getting a sense of what he may have meant. In the Charging Documents against all five of these adults, when it talks about child abuse, it justifies that charge by saying additionally a Foster Parent of one of the 11 children stated the defendant had trained the child in the use of an Assault Rifle in preparation for Future School shootings. And then it goes on to say, should the defendant be released from custody, he poses a great danger to the children found on the property as well as a threat to the community as a whole. Basically making the argument that these people should not be released. They are going to have a court date in just a couple of minutes from now and well be there. So well find out what happens at that point, but again, i cannot stress enough here, brooke, that these people have not been charged with conspiracy to commit school shooting, with training young people, anything like that. This is just one singular point in a document, in a charging document, that were going to have to figure out and get more information about. We also spoke to the father of one of the men who is charged, lucas morton. And he said, look, yes, they were devout muslims. Yes, his son had a problem, you know, holding jobs and things like that. So he thought that the idea was to go out to new mexico on this piece of land that they had and essentially start a new life, live off the grid. Start a home set and live a peaceful life. They didnt have the training. They didnt have the means. They didnt have anything actually to make that happen. On thursdays, he got a text message from his son, someone who had been estranged from him for the better part of a year that said, dad, were running out of food. Were running out of money. Were starving. We need some help. Thats when he got on a plane and got out here, brooke. So there is a lot of moving parts to this story. You can already see the

Ive actually spent my summer on the weekends interviewing many of them and many told me in their own way since trump won in November Of 16 that they realized if they dont stand up and run that they as women have everything to lose. And you were actually at an event, a trump speech, two years ago in detroit and you and several others forcibly removed for heckling. You tell me how much of your decision to run was shaped by this president . I say this to a lot to people but its true. I think President Trump being there in Office Getting elected was kind of a bat signal for women across the country. It was like its our time. We have to march on and we cant stand outside of the ring anymore. We have to actually run for office and we have to demand to
have a street at the table because its obvious that Everything Else is falling apart and to have someone like him in office that talks like him, i mean, our children have to watch that hear that language and watch that behavior. Absolutely, i think a lot of that drive does come from, you know, President Trump being in office. And just the culture and atmosphere that he brings to that office and to our country. Lets let me talk about your party, though. Democrats, obviously hoping to take the house back this fall and been a Battle Brewing within the Democratic Party with a further left, bernie sanders, you, wing, and then more establishment democrats. And the wing that really, you know, endorsed you lost out last night. Im wondering why do you think that your progressive message doesnt seem to be resonating with democratic voters. Look. I think what i hear from the
13th Congressional District elsewhere. They voted for you. Elsewhere, Whats Going On . I dont know but i can tell you this. People want something different. We dont want just somebody that introduces bills and votes the right way and goes home. We want somebody that kind of goes beyond that. Will fight not only in the community but even on the ground and pushing back against the hate rhetoric. In trying to deliver services to residents. People want somebody real, looks like them, talks like them. I think thats something so much lacking in a lot of people that run for office on both sides of the party. And im really thrilled that people havent changed, you know, the way i look or dressed or the way i talk and they feel like someone like them is now going to represent them in congress. And i think thats whats lacking. People talk about messaging, they talk about the other things that i think dont matter as much as getting someone that has gone through the same challenges, that can sense
