Seized in schools across england and wales in the past two years. Also, dreams become Virtual Reality for one british tech firm. Improbable manages raises almost £400 million in one of the biggest ever investments in an early stage European Technology business. And. A close shave for Paddle Boarders in calfornia, after theyre warned theyre swimming next to 15 great white sharks. Good morning. Its friday 12th may. Im annita mcveigh. Welcome to bbc newsroom live. The Labour Leader, Jeremy Corbyn, is to give a major Foreign Policy speech in about half an hour s time in which he is likely to say that he doesnt see himself as a pacifist, because he would use Military Force as a last resort but that he believes Military Intervention has become far too common in recent times. Mr corbyn was chair of an anti war group and opposed intervention in kosovo and serbia. He is also known to bea kosovo and serbia. He is also known to be a long term supporter of unilateral disarmament and the stylist alien rights. And palestinian rights. So exactly what would labours Foreign Policy look like under his leadership . We can speak to our assistant Political Editor norman smith. Norman is at Chatham House, where Jeremy Corbyn is going to be making the speech. Will he attempt to clean up the speech. Will he attempt to clean up what you might call preconceptions about what he thinks on Foreign Policy . Will he detailed what he thinks is the last resort . thinkJeremy Corbyn will be pretty clear and candid about his long standing views on britains role in the world, which are very different to those of most former Labour Leaders. Jeremy corbyn disagrees with traditional british Foreign Policy, he has been uneasy with some of our alliances with nato and the United States, and he has been deeply critical of the success of Military Interventions abroad. So today he will criticise what he sees as unilateral interventions. Particularly in the middle east, he says that has become almost routine. He will say that the War On Terror has failed and that he would only countenance using British Military forces if it was sanctioned by the United Nations, if it was a last resort and clearly there was no other alternative. About our ties with United States, suggesting that we have been at the whim of the white house, and highly critical of donald trump. But that is some ambiguity about the exact circumstances in which mr corbyn might be prepared to sanction the use of Military Force. Mr corbyn says he is not a pacifist, but when i predicted the Shadow Cabinet member Barry Gardner s this morning, but would he be ready to stand up to the likes of Vladimir Putin . I am sure that as Prime Minister, Jeremy Corbyn would absolutely protect the fundamental interest of this country, that he would protect the security of this country, and that he would stand up to anybody who threatened our interests or threatened our security. And hes not a soft touch . Absolutely not. There is a view that he has been quite open about his views and that maybe his message will go down well with younger voters. But there is a risk that it will alienate those many more Traditional Labour for tours who perhaps take pride in britains military. Our history, our role in the global stage, precisely the same group of voters who probably many of them voted brexit. The fear that this enables theresa may to attack him for appearing unpatriotic. You mentioned the significant points of difference between Jeremy Corbyn significant points of difference betweenJeremy Corbyn on Foreign Policy and many previous Labour Leaders. What about the differences between what he thinks and the current team of labour mps . between what he thinks and the current team of labour mp5 . I think thats a very good point. We know thats a very good point. We know that on issues like syria, they have been flash points in the parliamentary labour party, the liberal mps are basically ignoring Jeremy Corbyns stance. The little getting away from it, within the parliamentary party, mr corbyns International View is still a minority view. The vast bulk of labour mps minority view. The vast bulk of labourmps are minority view. The vast bulk of labour mps are much more supportive of the Traditional Labour attitude towards its defence, towards conflict, towards the rule of britain on the global stage. Jeremy corbyn has been utterly consistent adversity has been in parliament. I think im right in saying he has voted against every single Military Conflict. I cant think of a single war or Military Conflict he has supported. I asked one of his collea g u es supported. I asked one of his colleagues today, short of an invasion of britain, when woody Jeremy Corbyn actually go to war . And it was suggested to me that if a nato country was threatened, then Jeremy Corbyn would be prepared to see British Military forces deployed. The only costly note i would send their is that if you look at their manifesto, nato is not even mentioned. So when mr corbyn makes a speech, will want clarity on what circumstances might they use Military Force. Thank you very much. Norman smith. Well be bringing you that speech from Jeremy Corbyn, its expected at around half past 11. The inquest into a schoolboy who died after falling ill in detention has concluded his death was due to an allergic reaction to a school lunch. 14 year old nasar ahmed had severe asthma and multiple allergies, when he fell ill at school in november. Two hours before he collapsed he ate a meal he was allergic to. Staff failed to correctly administer his medication before paramedics arrived. Our correspondent Richard Lister is at Poplar Coroners Court in east london. Tell us more about the background leading up to nasars death. Tell us more about the background leading up to nasars death. This happened on november ten last year. Nasar had a wide range of extreme food allergies. He was allergic to nuts, fruit, milk, various fruit. He was also asthmatic, severely asthmatic. The school was a weird of this condition, The School Nurse had sat down with his family and looked ata sat down with his family and looked at a care plan for him, but it emerged during the course of these proceedings that, while that interview was taking place, The School Nurse was actually using a form which classified nasars condition as mild to moderate rather than severe. That had a number of consequences, one of which was that, even though the first aid pact nasar had at school can teens and adrenaline than in brewster, there we re adrenaline than in brewster, there were no instructions about how and when that Adrenaline Boost should be used. So on the day when he actually collapsed. He had had a school in Chuckle Brothers before, a Tandoori Chicken Dish which contained things he was allergic to. Two hours later, he was allergic to. Two hours later, he collapsed and complained he was unable to breathe. Some of the staff looking after him in that setting we re looking after him in that setting were not actually a of his care plan oi were not actually a of his care plan or even that he had the condition he had. They went eventually to get the medical back for him, but there were no instructions about how to use the booster. The coroner said the use of that booster before the paramedics arrived could possibly have saved his life, even though that was not a probability. The coroner has also significantly issued a number of recommendations for schools. Tickets through those. She has issued a number, five, in fact prevention of future death reports. The company which employed The School Nurse, pointing out that there was no information about this epipen, pointing out that there were problems with the forms and following up about whether the right medical procedures would in place. Also, the school itself has been issued a report that staff should have been made aware, there should be ways to make sure the staff are aware when pupils have conditions such as nasars, that not all the staff were necessarily aware that he had this potentially life threatening situation. There appears to be a lack of consistency in the way medical Blood Vessels dealt with the situation. The paramedics were asked whether advice about the use of this epipen. They said at the time that because nasar wasnt showing the classic symptoms that would require the use of epipen, they didnt offer their advice to give it. The coroner said her understanding was that using epipen would have caused no harm may have done some considerable good. She has also issued a report to the Chief Medical Officerfor she has also issued a report to the Chief Medical Officer for england saying it worth considering whether epipens should be made to generically widely available in the same way that other drugs and procedures are, so that people have greater access to them to be able to deal with this kind of thing. As far as nasars parents were concerned, they were both here to hear the findings. His mother said she felt she had been badly let down. They failed care of duty. They failed ca re of failed care of duty. They failed care of duty. They are not trained. They are not trained, but my son has lost his life. Why my son lost his life . It could have been prevented, basically, had they followed the actions in the care plan and administered his medication. The school said it was conducting a full review of procedures and is doing all it good to make sure something that this never happens again. Tony blairs comments that came as the eu chief negotiator Michel Barnie visited ireland to consider the challenges brexit presents for the challenges brexit presents for the country. John campbell is the ni economics and Business Editor and hes at the meeting in wicklow. Tony blair obviously has considerable personal investment in Northern Ireland for his time as Prime Minister. How concerned are the delegates gathered there about the delegates gathered there about the impact of brexit on the border . I think whats been happening today is the Irish Government and delegates have been trying to raise that concern. Thats what these last couple of days have been about. Michel barnier was invited here yesterday and now tony blair has been invited to address the meeting. He has invested enormous time and energy in the irish Peace Process and he was making the point that he wa nts and he was making the point that he wants the status quo, that easy movement of people North And South across the border, to remain in place as much as possible. Neilson said he thinks that there is a consensus across british politics that it should remain the status quo. I am extremely anxious to make sure that brexit does not impair that agreement, that we continue to have the closest possible relationship between Northern Ireland and the Republic Of Ireland. There are really important and difficult challenges in this. At the moment, we have the common travel area, where people can travel freely between south and north, on the island of ireland. This is vital to maintain. In addition, the open border between the North And South, in terms of trade, has done an immense amount for uk and irish commercial and Trade Relationships, and it is important that, although there will be difficult challenges in relation to this, that we safeguard this as much as possible and minimise any potential damage. Michel barnier is travelling to the border this afternoon to talk to people there, find out for himself what concerns people have. Is this is first time will this be his first time to go the border . He has been in ireland twice, but as far as i know, this is his first border visit. The big issue is that people along the border move easily across the borderfor work along the border move easily across the border for work and along the border move easily across the borderfor work and education and shopping they want this to remain in place. The Freedom Of Movement of people should be easy to maintain, the more difficult part is about Free Movement of goods. So many businesses they rely on the ease of trade across the border. It is particularly agricultural and food companies, they are particularly concerned. If that is a ha rd particularly concerned. If that is a hard border with tariffs, it will wreck their businesses. Michel barnier is hearing from some of those people today, and they will be saying to him, please give us some sort of guarantee that they would see a hard border or hard brexit that will damage our businesses. The difficulty is going to be that at this stage, Michel Barnier cannot really give that sort of guarantee, because we dont know how customers will be enforced at the border after brexit and we dont know what sort of trade deal will have with the uk. Thanks very much for that. The headlines. Jeremy corbyn prepares to set out his vision on Foreign Policy. Youll see he is now pacifist and is prepared to use Military Force as a last resort. He is also accepted to pledge there will be no handholding with donald trump. A coroner rules a 14 year old boy died after a reaction to a school lunch and sets out a range of measures aimed at protecting children with allergies in schools. Tony blair says Northern Ireland must be a special case in brexit talks to minimise any potential damage to the agreement between Northern Ireland and the republic. And in sport. Manchester united make it through to the Europa League final with a tense 2 1 Aggregate Victory over celta vigo last night. But, theyve been allocated less than 10,000 tickets for the final in stockholm. Will the chelsea charge to the title culminate this evening . A win at west brom will give Antonio Contes side the Premier League title. And Lewis Hamilton set the pace during first practice at the spanish grand prix. His Mercedes Team mate Valtteri Bottas was second. Ill be back with more on all of that at 11. 30. We will bring eu detailsjust we will bring eu details just a moment ago about the boy who died as the result of an allergic reaction toa the result of an allergic reaction to a school lunch at his School In November Last year. The coroner ruling that if an epipen had been used promptly, there is a possibility but not a probability that this would have changed the outcome. We have just that this would have changed the outcome. We havejust had that this would have changed the outcome. We have just had a statement from the school at which nasar was a pupil. The Executive Head Teacher saying, all deeply saddened about this tragic incident and continue to offer our Heartfelt Sympathies to nasars family. The safety of those in our care is our overriding concern, and following nasars death, we rigorous leave reviewed as Dave De Bruyne Sieges and are reviewing training across the board. We will consider the advice from the corner very carefully to see what further action we should take. The coroner issuing five recommendations, known as prevention of future deaths reports, to be considered by the school and schools more generally, on training for staff and action to take in the event of any incidents involving pupils with allergies, so that was the statement from nasars school in east london. A london firm which makes Virtual Reality games has had a massive boost a £400m investment from a Japanese Bank. Its one of the largest ever investments in a British Technology company. The business, called improbable, was only set up five years ago. What we are building could be the foundation of a completely new industry. The ability to make massive simulations of the real world, to help make better decisions, answer new questions, even do new research. So lets talk about some of those simulations, because ive been looking at some of what you do. I find it personally fascinating. For example, you may be looking at a city, you think maybe we need to put in a new road there, but what impact will that have . Will it help traffic . Make it worse . Its those sort of everyday scenarios that you can model out in this Virtual Reality. Absolutely, or things like economic policy, for example. These are all things that large scale simulation can make a huge impact in. Our vision is eventually to enable the ability to create huge worlds that millions of people can participate in. And thats not going to be an easyjourney. And its going to involve a lot of technical investment, a huge amount of Additional Research and a lot of people. So, for us, this is about laying the foundations for a long term journey. With me is our Technology Correspondent rory cellan jones. What exactly was it about improbable that attracted the attention and considerable backing of this Japanese Bank . It is an Investment Organisation rather than a bang, but it is going round the world looking for the brightest technology ideas. It has a lot of money to spend. Last year it bought the jewel in the crown of British Technology, and this year spitting this huge sum into improbable. Its an extraordinary gamble they are making. You have to stress that. This is at a very early stage. Its an amazing vision you saw outlined there, but they have a lot of work to do before realising it and before proving that people want to live in these Virtual Worlds use them, and that companies are willing to pay good money to do this kind of thing. What they are basically saying is that Virtual Reality games we are seeing at the moment are just the beginning of a whole new way of seeing the world and operating in the world. So were notjust talking about Virtual Worlds for games here, were talking about simulations of the real world on a very large scale. Tell us more about that. One of the things they been working on recently is trying to build a city the size of london as the Virtual World, with millions of people using vast amounts of data. For instance, you might feed in all the data that comes from the London Transport system and then you might build a new tube line in this Virtual Worlds and see how people reacted to the arrival of that new should line. Thats the kind of application in a Virtual World and see how people react to them and therefore planned things ina react to them and therefore planned things in a much more efficient way. So this money is presumably going to be used to develop that were further. The two guys met at cambridge and set up this company just five years ago . Yes, they are too young Computer Science graduates at cambridge, they were discussing their Discipline Nations their dissertations together and they thought, this could be a business. Isa thought, this could be a business. Is a great example of the kind of technology that is coming out of British Universities and being turned into real businesses. Thanks very much. Bbc news has learned that an asian detective faced an accusation of Gross Misconduct after raising concerns of racism when he found a toy monkey, in an office, at a Police Station in london. The officer, who doesnt want to be named, reported seeing the black monkey dressed in a police shirt. An officer there at the time was black. With me is our Home Affairs Correspondent danny shaw. It isa it is a troubling case, and its not something from the 1980s and 1990s. It happened in the metropolitan police. This officer, an asian detective, so this black toy monkey in an office at belgravia Police Station. It had a label on it which said ero, which stands for evidential review officer. One of those officers at the time was black. He raised this on an Internet Forum and was told it would be looked into. Weeks later, he himself find that he was the subject of an investigation for alleged accruals misconduct for posting untrue comments and making inflammatory statements. It would to years before he was cleared. He had raised what he was cleared. He had raised what he believed was a genuine concern and yet he was charged with Gross Misconduct. That seems bizarre, because surely, officers and indeed, many fields, people are encouraged to raise concerns that they have. And that is the real concern about this case, that it should have been investigated properly. Scotland yard said there was a local investigation, but it never established to please the monkey beer. Instead, he was the subject of an investigation. For two years, his career was on hold and he could face the sack if they been found guilty. But charges were not proven and he went on and took legal action against the metropolitan police for victimisation and racial discrimination. A settlement was reached and he was awarded damages of around £35,000. The details are confidential, but that ended the matter last year, and Scotland Yard have said that since then, they have made improvements in their whistle blowing policy and the way it deals with complaints from staff. Now have a listen to this announcement made to a group of Paddle Boarders just off the coast of california. You are Paddle Boarding next to approximately 15 great white sharks. Jeremy corbyn says he will be setting out her labour will seek Peaceful Solutions to the worlds problems. Well at the same time saying he is not a pacifist, he says that Military Intervention has become far too common but says that he would use Military Action but only when it was a genuine at last resort. Will he detail what he means bya resort. Will he detail what he means by a last resort . He was chairman of the Anti War Coalition and has opposed many Military Interventions over his career and parliament. Perhaps preconceptions to clear up about what he thinks that it is to think matters of Foreign Policy. We will be back here as soon as mr Cobb Carbonneau begins to speak. Mrtrump said he mr trump said he wanted the investigation speeded up. Famous, or infamous . Infamous . When did donald trump decide to sack the towering figure from the fbi . This president ial handshake not an act of friendship, it seems, but the beginning of the end forjames comey. Hes a showboater, hes a grandstander. It wasnt on advice from the Deputy Attorney general, as the white house stated, it came directly from the president. I was going to fire him. It was my decision. You had already made the decision . I was going to fire him. And another apparent contradiction. The white house claims that james comey had little or no support within the fbi. The Rank And File of the fbi had lost confidence in their director. Not so, said the acting fbi director, who was sitting in for his sacked boss before the Senate Intelligence committee. Director comey enjoyed broad support within the fbi, and still does. At the heart of this row is the alleged collusion between the Trump Campaign and moscow. The president admits that russia was on his mind when he decided to fire comey. There was no good time to do it. And in fact, when i decided tojust do it, i said to myself, you know, this russia thing, with trump and russia, its a made up story, its an excuse by the democrats for having lost an election. Donald trump denies any collusion with russia and insists that, despite sacking the head of the fbi, he wants any enquiry done properly and quickly. In a moment a summary of the Business News this hour but first the headlines on bbc newsroom live. Jeremy corbyn is about to set out his vision for britains Foreign Policy. A fourteen year old boy who suffered an allergic reaction may not have died if hed had prompt access to an epi pen a coroner has ruled. Nasar ahmed collapsed during detention at a school in east london. Northern ireland should be treated as a special case in the wake of Brexit Tony Blair has said. Just because youre a startup doesnt mean you have to think small. London based Virtual Reality firm, improbable, has raised 500m in one of the biggest investments in an early stage European Technology business. Japans softbank is backing improbable in a Funding Round that values the business at more than 1bn. Businesses in all parts of the uk, particularly rural areas, are experiencing full or partial not spots in their mobile coverage thats according to the British Chambers Of Commerce. The survey shows that 70 of firms experience mobile non spots, areas of no mobile coverage by any operator, or partial not spots, where there is some coverage but not from all networks, in their local area. Germanys economy grew strongly in the first three months of this year, driven by investment and consumption. First quarter gdp growth came in at an expected 0. 6 up from 0. 4 in the last three months of 2016. One of modern lifes many frustrations is the low or nonexistent Mobile Phone Signal in a so called not spot. And there are many of them, particularly when it comes to using mobile internet. For businesses, this can be damaging. A survey of almost 1,500 Companies Says businesses across the uk are being hobbled by nonexistent mobile internet coverage. The British Chambers Of Commerce says one in two firms in urban areas complain about their service, while in the countryside it is nine in ten. Business around britain sailor recalls a dropout, you can get access to calls on internet and that is stopping them doing business. We wa nt we is stopping them doing business. We want we need to solve those problems up want we need to solve those problems up you want according to be successful and the government can help do that im making sure planning was alone at masts to be as high as possible so that signals get to people on the roads and railways and rural areas where the problem is strongest and of course, to by ensuring that Business Customers get the service promised by mobile companies. Europes economic powerhouse germany has released gdp figures for the first three months of the year and they show an economy thats accelerating. It grew 0. 6 per cent on the previous quarter that translates to an an annual rate of 1. 7 per cent. Its being fuelled by Global Demand for the countrys exports, like cars and machinery. But its not all cause for celebration let me show you why. Last year germany clocked up its biggest ever Trade Surplus thats how much more it exports than it imports. At 275 Billion Dollars germany has one of the biggest Trade Surpluses in the world its a source of tension with its neighbours and allies look at how much more germany sells to these top economies than it buys from them. The us in particular has accused germany of exploiting an undervalued euro to get an unfair Trade Advantage an Over Reliance on exports isnt the only problem. The European Commission says germany is just too frugal it is saving too much, and investing too little. It wants to see some of that cash invested in the regions struggling economies. But many germans think the spending should start closer to Home Asjoe Miller reports from berlin home time at this school in the south of berlin where students have more reason than most to want to get out of the building. We have classrooms we have to paint ourselves and windows that dont close and toilets that are so filthy students dont drink anything all day so they dont have to use them. Also, the pay for teachers makes it difficult to find people who want to do the job at all. Conditions are terrible and schools are falling apart. It is notjust Public Investment that is the problem. Germany has a 300 billion current account surplus. That is a good figure, but it suggests that German Companies prefer to invest money abroad, perhaps because they see german schools like this. Ageing infrastructure and a lack of investment are becoming a political problem. We see that, for example, in current discussions with the donald trump administration, and with france, where Emmanuel Macron has recently said germany should try to bring down its current account. We see that german policymakers are actually with their backs against the wall. They have to defend the economic strength germany is seeing. This is a problem because it creates tensions. Now, in just a few months time, german voters will get to choose their next parliament, and as they do so, they may have one of the following questions. If the German Economy is growing so strongly, they ask, why are taxes still high, and why are my benefits still so low . More simply, will i see an improvement in my quality of living . Thank you. We are expecting theJeremy Corbyn speech to begin at 1145. Talking about the labour foreign speech to begin at 1145. Talking about the labourForeign Policy speech to begin at 1145. Talking about the labour Foreign Policy to set out her labour will seek to create Peaceful Solutions to the worlds problems. Our Political Editor was saying thatJeremy Corbyns position on many foreign horsey issues differs considerably from other previous Labour Leaders andindeed from other previous Labour Leaders and indeed from many of the labour parliamentary party. We can go to norman liz outside through the speech is about to begin. How crucial is the speech forJeremy Corbyn . I think it is important for personal reasons, much of theJeremy Corbyns political life has been spent campaigning and protesting against Nuclear Weapons, Military Intervention, american Foreign Policy. That is part of his whole political story. He has a very different world view than that of many previously breeders and that is integral to his politics. Before Jeromy Corrigan became Labour Leader, we associated him with being on Protest Marches and demonstrations as part of his political dna and they think the view of his team as there is no point trying to hide away and pretend it was out his views. They dont want to shy away from this because they are trying to fight an Election Campaign with jonah Conference Centre stage, articulating his long held views and attitudes of which has done some Military Intervention and particularly the wars in the middle east, we know have been central to Jeremy Corbyns politics. He calculation is that we will be popular that many people in the aftermath of the iraq war may also be deeply sceptical about traditional approach to Foreign Policy, our alliance with america, readiness to become involved with Military Conflict, particularly among younger voters, that is a message that may resonate. I think the danger is whether it profoundly alienates an older generation, in traditional generation who do take pride in britains Military Forces, and history, and a role on The World Stage and it may also play to a view that maybe jeremy stage and it may also play to a view that maybeJeremy Corbyn risks being a soft touch. He hasnt got the necessary attitude and toughness to stand up to our enemies, how would he negotiate face to face with the likes of people like Vladimir Putin . It isa likes of people like Vladimir Putin . It is a risk and there is no doubt the conservatives will pile and on this and accuse mr corbyn of being unpatriotic. We can see and reductions beginning, and Jeremy Corbyn is about to speak. Thank you. This is actually a saturday for Chatham House, the director of which cant be today because he is attending a funeral. Of the Special Envoy at the United Nations and an adviser to robin cook and relied very heavily on Michael Williams for support and advice and we should commemorate that is today and send our sympathies to the family of michael on there was. Applause i would also like to knock my colleagues from the Shadow Cabinet, a shadow foreign secretary, thank you for coming today. Back from scotland, our shadow Attorney General who brings illegal mines to our team general who brings illegal mines to ourteam and our general who brings illegal mines to our team and our Shadow Secretary for International Development who brings passion about the need to deal with conflict at source by ensuring people are all able to read decent and sustainable lanes. Effect my colleagues for all that they do and support they give and they want to thank Chatham House because it has been at the forefront of thinking of britains role. And clearly Chatham Houses rules dont apply because this is being light skinned. But a General Election less than a month away, i wa nt election less than a month away, i want to set out my approach i have found a Labour Government will keep britain safe, reshape our relationships with partners Around The World and crucially work to strengthen the United Nations and to respond to the global challenges we all face in the 215t century. I would like to say a very warm welcome to the un Special Representative from somalia who is here today. Applause thank you for coming along and your colleague and adviser, it is wonderful to see you. And anybody else i havent referenced who i know, consider yourselves welcomed. On monday we commemorated victory in good day, the anniversary of the victory over nazi germany. Ged maxed the defeat of fascism and the beginning of the end of the global war that had claimed 70 million lives. Just think of that figure, 70 million. General eisenhower, Supreme Commander of the allied forces was based right here in this square preparing the plan for that invasion of operation overlord, went on to become the republican president of the United States during some of the most dangerous years of the cold war in the 19505. His final televised addre55 in the 19505. His final televised address to the American People as president was fascinating and he gave a very 5tark warning of what he described as the acquisition of unwarranted influence by the military industrial complex. He went on to say only an alert and knowledgeable citizen5 on to say only an alert and knowledgeable citizens can compel the proper meshing of the huge and other stuff too and Military Machine of defence with our peaceful methods and goals so that security and liberty may prosper together. Sadly it is more than 70 years since he made that speech and sadly and more than half a century it is clear that eisenhowers warning has not been heeded. Too much of a debate about defence and security as one dimensional, you are either for or against. What is presented as a strong defence regardless of the actual record of what it is meant in practice. A lot citizens of political leaders who advocate of a rich to security are often dismissed or treated as unreliable. My own political views were shaped by my parents description of the horrors of warand the parents description of the horrors of war and the threat of nuclear holocaust. Indeed my parents met whilst Organising Solidarity with the connected government of spain against francos fascists during the Spanish Civil War which are of course supported by hitler and the nurses. My generation grew up under the shadow of the cold war, a black and White Television throughout the 19505 and 605 was dominated by vietnam. A5 throughout the 19505 and 605 was dominated by vietnam. As a young person i was haunted by images of civilians fleeing chemical weapons used by the United States, i didnt imagine that nearly 50 years later we would still see chemical weapons being used against innocent civilians. What an abject failure. I met recently a Vietnam War Veteran who had been involved in using agent orange and is still, ties to why that experience. How is it that history keeps repeating itself . At the end of the cold war, the berlin wall can down, we were told it was the end of history. Global leaders promised a more peaceful and stable world. It didnt quite work out like that. Today the world is more unstable than even at the height of the cold war, the approach to International Security we have been using since the 19905 simply hasnt worked. Regime change was in afghanistan can and iraq and libya and syria and western interventions in afghanistan and somalia and yemen haveit in afghanistan and somalia and yemen have it was succeeded in their own terms, sometimes they have made the world a more dangerous place. This is the fourth General Election and a row to be held well britain is at warand our row to be held well britain is at war and our armed forces are in action in the middle east and beyond. The fact is that the War On Terror has been driven which is driven these interventions has not succeeded. It has not increased security at home, in fact many would sayjust the opposite. It has caused the stabilisation and devastation abroad as last september the house of Commons Foreign Affairs select Committee Published a report on the libyan war which David Cameron has promised that promoted a red invention end. They concluded that the Intervention Led to political and economic collapse, humanitarian and economic collapse, humanitarian and my great crisis and fuelled the rise of isis and africa and across the middle east. Is that really the way to deliver security for people in britain . The studiously believes that whats real strength looks like . We need to step back and have some fresh thinking. The world faces huge problems as well as the legacy of Regime Change was. There is a dangerous cocktail of ethnic conflicts, Food Insecurity and Water Scarcity and fast emerging effects of climate change. To that mix and a grotesque and a growing level of inequality in Whichjust Grotesque and a growing level of inequality in which just eight billionaires are the same wealth as 3. 6 billion of the poorest people on our planet. And you end up with a Refugee Crisis of epic proportions. Affecting every continent in the world. But more displaced people in the world than since the second world war. There are some estimates the think there are more displaced people know that at any time in recorded history. These novels are getting worse and they are fuelling threat and instability. The Global Situation is becoming more dangerous. The new United States president seems sadly determined to add to the dangers by recklessly escalating the confrontation was not very, unilaterally launching Missile Strikes on syria and opposing what was a great achievement as president obamas Nuclear Arms Deal with iraq and suggesting he is backing a nuclear arms race. A Labour Government will want a strong and friendly relationship with the United States but we will not be afraid to speak her mind. The United States business from this Military Power on the planet by a very long way, it has a special responsibility to use as power with care and support International Efforts to resolve conflicts collectively and peacefully. Waiting to see which way the wind blows in washington isnt a strong leadership, and pandering to an erratic administration will not deliver stability. When trees are made and dressed the Republican Party conference in philadelphia in january, she spoke out an alarmist terms about the rise of china and india and the danger of the west being eclipsed, she said america and britain had to stand together and use their military might to protect their interests. That is the sort of language that either sent to calamities in iraq and libya and other disastrous wars, but stole the new post cold war promise of a new peaceful world. I do not see india and china in those terms. Nor do i think the vast majority of americans are british people want the bits of those young men and women on the ground in syria fighting a war that could escalate the suffering and slaughter even further. Britain deserves better than simply outsourcing our countrys security and prosperity to the forums of the trump white house. But more handholding with water. We will say goodbye to viewers on bbc two are continuously to Jeremy Corbyn on goodbye to viewers on bbc two are continuously toJeremy Corbyn on the bbc news channel. United states china, russia and france. And with other countries play a major role such as india, south africa and brazil and germany, we have to reach out and work with others. This philosophy of bomb top first talk later has failed, to persist with it isa later has failed, to persist with it is a recipe for increasing nonproducing threats on security. I am often asked if i were promised provider order the use of Nuclear Weapons. It is an extraordinary question. Would you order the indiscriminate killing of millions of people . Indiscriminate killing of millions of people . Would indiscriminate killing of millions of people . Would you risk such contamination of the planet that all life could exist across large parts of the world . If circumstances arose when was a real option, to represent a complete and cataclysmic failure, it would mean World Leaders had already triggered a spiral of labour is committed to actively pursue disarmament under the Nuclear Non Proliferation treaty, and were committed to no first use of Nuclear Weapons. But let me make this clear, if elected Prime Minister, i would do everything to protect the security and safety of our people and our country. That is our duty and our country. That is our duty and to achieve that, i know we would have to work with other countries to solve problems, defuse tensions and build collective security. The best defence for britain is a government actively engaged in seeking Political Solutions to the worlds problems. It doesnt make me a pacifist. I accept that Military Action as a last resort is, in some circumstances, necessarily. But that is very far from the kind of unilateral war is and interventions that have become almost routine in re ce nt that have become almost routine in recent years. I would take lectures from Conservative Party that stood by in the 19805, refusing even to impose sanctions, while children in the streets of south africa were being shot down, which has backed every move that has put our armed forces in harms way. Once again, it has become clear that are bought by the conservatives would be a vote to escalate the war in syria, Risking Confrontation with russia, adding to the suffering of Syrian People and increasing global insecurity. When you see children suffering in war, its only natural to want to do something. But the last thing we needis something. But the last thing we need is more of the same field recipe that has served us so badly and the people of the region so calamitously. Labour. Duck forthe people of syria, we will press for war crimes to be investigated and worked tirelessly to make the geneva talks work. Every action taken over syria must be judged over weather it helps to bring an end to the appalling tragedy of the war or does the opposite. Even if isis is deliberated militarily, the conflict will not end until that is a negotiated settlement involving all the main parties, including the regional and International Powers and an inclusive government in iraq. All wars and conflicts eventually brought to an end by political means. Labour would adopt a new approach. We will not step back, responsibilities, but our focus will be on strengthening International Cooperation and supporting the efforts of the United Nations to resolve conflicts. A Labour Government will respect International Low and oppose lawlessness and unilateralism in international relations. We believe passionately in human rights and justice should dry our Foreign Policy. In the 19605, Harold Wilsons Labour Government worked for and signed the Nuclear Non Proliferation treaty. A5 Prime Minister, i hope to build on that achievement. Libras support for the renewal of the trident system doesnt mean we dont support reduction in nuclear arsenal. A Labour Government will support defence, differential element and diplomacy. For all their bluster, the tory record on defence and security has been one of incompetence and failure. They have balanced the books on the backs of service men and women, deep cuts have been made in the army, reduced to its smaller size since the napoleonic wars, stagnant pay, worsening conditions, browsing. The morale of our Service Personnel and veterans is at rock bottom. A5 morale of our Service Personnel and veterans is at rock bottom. As a security challenges we face are not bound by geographical borders, it is vital that as britain leads the eu, We Maintaina Vital that as britain leads the eu, we maintain a close relationship with our european partners, alongside nato, to keep spending 2 , but that means working with our allies to ensure peace and security in europe. We will work to halt the drift towards confrontation with russia and the escalation of military deployment. There is no need whatsoever to weaken our strong opposition to russian Human Rights Abuses at home or abroad, but to understand the necessity of winding down tensions on the russian beetle border and supporting dialogue to reduce the risk of international conflict. We will back a new co nfe re nce conflict. We will back a new conference on security and co operation in europe and seek to defuse the crisis in ukraine through implementation of agreements. We will continue to work with the eu on Operational Missions to promote and support global regional security. This means our armed forces will have the necessary capabilities to fulfil the full range of obligations, ensuring they are versatile and able to participate. Rapid stabilisation, disaster relief, un peacekeeping. Security is not only about direct military defence, its about Conflict Resolution and protection, underpinned by strong diplomacy. So the next Labour Government will invest in our Diplomatic Network and consular services. We will seek to rebuild some of the key capabilities and services that have been lost as the result of conservative cuts in re ce nt the result of conservative cuts in recent years, such as the loss of Human Rights Advisers in so many of our embassies Around The World. And finally, while theresa may seeks to build a coalition of risk and in security with donald trump, if Labour Government will refocus britains interest towards cooperation and peaceful settlements and socialjustice. Cooperation and peaceful settlements and social justice. The cooperation and peaceful settlements and socialjustice. The life chances security and asperity of our citizens are dependent on a Stable International environment. We will strengthen our commitment to the un, but are we love its shortcomings, particularly in light of repeated abuses of the veto power in the security council. We will work with allies from Around The World to build support for United Nations reform to make its institutions more effective and more responsive. And asa effective and more responsive. And as a permanent member of the security council, we will respect the authority of International Law. To lead this work, labour has created a minister for peace who will work across the Ministry Of Defence and the foreign and commonwealth office. We boldly claimed britains leading role in tackling climate change, working ha rd tackling climate change, working hard to preserve the Paris Agreement and deliver an International Commitments to reduce carbon emissions. We will re examine the Arms Export Licensing Regulations to make sure that all british arms exports are consistent with our legal and moral obligations. This means refusing to grant Export Licences for arms with that is a clear risk we will be used to commit serious violations of International Humanitarian law. Weapon supplies to saudi arabia, when evidence of grave breaches of humanitarian law in yemen is overwhelming, must be halted immediately. I see it as the next Labour Governments task to make the case for britain to advance a security and Foreign Policy with integrity and human rights at its core. There is a clear choice in this election. Between continuing with the failed policy of continuing and devastating intervention that have increased the terrorist threat, or being willing to step back, learn the lessons of the past and find new ways to solve and prevent conflicts. Dwight eisenhower said on another occasion, if people can develop weapons that are so terrifying has to make the thought of global war almost a sentence for suicide, you would think that mans intelligence would think that mans intelligence would include also his ability to find a peaceful solution. And in the words of another american, Martin Luther king, the Chain Reaction of evil, hate, begetting hate, wars produce more wars, must be broken. 0r produce more wars, must be broken. Orwe produce more wars, must be broken. Or we shall be plunged into the dark days of annihilation. I believe we can find those solutions. We can walk the hard yards to a better way to live together on this planet. A Labour Government will give leadership in a new and constructive way, and that is the leadership we are ready to provide, both at home and abroad. Thank you very much. Applause thank you, jeremy. Before going to the flora, i have a couple of questions for you. When you are in the United Nations, as permanent member of the security council, to make things work, you need to have agreement with all five permanent members of the security council. And they are protecting others. So you need to do deals across the board and often with countries with very poor Human Rights Records, in order to achieve what you want to achieve. So how does that square with a Foreign Policy based on human rights, based on an ethical approach . How do you square the method and the end result . You have to measure is your policy against the Human Rights Records we want and the Human Rights Records we want and the obligations that all five of the permanent members have signed up to through the universal declaration and through the International Criminal court, which is not universal, but we wished it were. And the other conventions, such as rights of the child and rights of women, and rights of environmental survival. I think you have to engage with all those countries on it. Indeed, there is evidence that when you do engage, things begin to change. Engagement with china on Environmental Issues has changed chinese attitude quite a lot, and also i suspect that higher levels of pollution in chinese cities has probably changed attitudes quite a lot. Its not always lecturing people, is learning from them as well, but its also recognising that well, but its also recognising that we cannot go on as well, but its also recognising that we cannot go on as a well, but its also recognising that we cannot go on as a planetjust presiding over this grotesque level of inequality and accepting that there are tens of millions of displaced people and refugees trying to survive, often in the poorest countries in the world. The numbers who come to europe by comparison with the rest of the world actually quite small, but disaster often affects the poorest in the poorest countries of the world. Think what its like to be festering in a refugee camp in libya and just trying to survive. The five permanent members do have a special responsibility in this and we do have to engage with them, so i would wa nt have to engage with them, so i would want to engage with russia on human rights issues, just as much as i would with china or any other country. Thanks. People have come to expect and welcome your letters from citizens to Prime Ministers questions. We thought we would take a leaf out of your book. Ok. Rich citizen has written to us . It is a lady from cheltenham and shes addressing something you have not talked about. She says, please could you askJeremy Corbyn what he would do to increase Server Security in the uk and at the same time making sure we keep our privacy online and defended from attackers . Cyber security is a very good western and it is probably the greatest threat faced Around The World at the present time, because Cyber Attacks can disable transport systems, communications, media, interfere apparently in elections in some countries. I am apparently in elections in some countries. Lam making no suggestions of anything this country, its ok, butcher bends down quickly. But its a very good question and its a very serious one. So you have to ensure that we have the capability to deal with Cyber Attacks against crucial infrastructure, which is telephone, Mobile Phones and all the other things. But there is also the question of surveillance and we challenge the government over this, on the question of intrusion into peoples e mails, which seems to me wrong. A5 peoples e mails, which seems to me wrong. As a member of the justice select committee, we had these discussions with the eu during many delegations and visits there and we did put forward appropriate amendments to recent legislation in the house, so that we protect the privacy of the individual, but recognise that Cyber Attacks are real and extremely dangerous. We live in a high tech, complicated world, where, if you interfere with Security Systems surrounding Power Supplies of anything else, then you endanger life very quickly. You can kill people very quickly without finding any gun or anything else. This is the challenge of our time it is time we faced up to it. Very good question. Thank you. I wasnt going to make any reference to the address. Im now going to our membership and im looking for people at the back primarily, who area people at the back primarily, who are a young and of any gender they wish to be. Can i encourage people. Only young people are allowed to ask a question . No, ijust want to start off with waters of the future. You have laid out a platform that is almost the antithesis of the platform laid out by donald trump. You have expressed that there will be no intention of handholding The Americans or the american president. But you also have to recognise there are huge links between the United States and the uk, economic links, intelligence links. How are you going to pass those two things, on the one hand very publicly saying that i fundamentally disagree with positions taken by this administration, but on the other hand trying to ensure that as the economic and investment engagement, intelligence engagement, that it continues. Wait a minute, i will ta ke two continues. Wait a minute, i will take two more questions before. This gentleman in the white shirt in the third row. Wait for the microphone. Say hes you are when you introduce yourself. My name is matt nicholson, iama yourself. My name is matt nicholson, i am a Postgraduate Student at kings college. What future with the intelligence come unity in the uk have under the Labour Government and would you seek to make changes to the Investigatory Powers Act . And then the gentleman here behind you. Sean, members of Chatham House. He said no more handholding with donald trump, buti said no more handholding with donald trump, but i dont see that there is anything wrong with two men in this day in each Holding Hands in public. And listening to your speech, i think that actually there are many points that you are donald trump have in common. Pupils describe the invasion of iraq in 2003 as a catastrophe, and a commitment to the renewal of trident and at least 2 of gdp on defence, will get trump to wa nt of gdp on defence, will get trump to want to hold your hand. But my question is the one area you seem to focus on in your speech which was north korea and you were critical of Donald Trumps approach. Id like you to flesh out your approach to the north korean problem. Thanks for those questions. The approach on the first question i cant read my own writing, thats the problem. Quite clearly, we have a very close relationship with the United States. We have a cultural relationship, we have a Trade Relationship and we have a Trade Relationship and we have had ever since the first world war, a military relationship with the United States. Does that mean we always agree with every us president . No, not at all. The British Government at the time, whilst politically supportive of The Americans in vietnam, didnt commit british troops to it and therefore, one would imagine there is a degree of criticism implicit in that. Does that mean you cant have a relationship with them . No, you can have a relationship, its notjust with the president , is with members of the house and senate as well as the other communities across the usa. I have been in the usa many times, met huge numbers of people of diverse political opinions. You work with them all, but the relation with the usa is an important one and its something we would want to maintain. On the question about the Investigatory Powers Act and the intelligence community, yes, we would maintain gchq and we would ensure that the powers of investigation into the citizen are backed up by legal process, we would not give unaccountable power of investigation into somebodys life, some of the authorities want to investigate streams of e mails or whatever else, they have to get Legal Backing to be able to do it. We dont want to create a surveillance society, whether those untrammelled power of interference into the lives of the individual. Thanks for your point about handholding. Obviously, he Labour Government would meet with President Trump and would have discussions with him. You lose the point about north korea. I am very clear that Nuclear Non Proliferation treaty is important and must be made to work, but there are a number of Nuclear Armed countries that dont have membership of the treaty, north korea being one of them. Six party talks were making a great deal of progress. The only be forwarded the crisis in the relationship between the United States and cordelia, has to bea the United States and cordelia, has to be a resumption of the six party talks, as to be encouraging and thanking china for what it has done so far in trying to defuse tensions and also working with the south korean government at the same time. Because the idea that one would countenance the bombing of the people of north korea, or of north korea sending missiles that would kill others, is appalling, so there has to be a developing relationship. The barack has to be a developing relationship. The ba rack obama has to be a developing relationship. The Barack Obama Administration was living in the direction of developing a dialogue with north korea. I think that is a good idea and we should encourage that. That is what i would encourage reading. One Advantage Britain has is we have put tradition of assuming diplomatic relations with countries that have an effect of government, and i think thats important to be that principle. Ill take a couple of questions here. John pienaar, bbc news. What you say to voters who support the British Nuclear deterrent when you make clear he would never ordered its use, either first clear he would never ordered its use, eitherfirst or clear he would never ordered its use, either first or in clear he would never ordered its use, eitherfirst or in retaliation. What you say to supporters of British Military power, when its not clear in what circumstances you would ever order forces into battle, in or out of nato, and including strikes against islamic state. Rachel younger from itv news. You say Military Action in some circumstances is necessary. You posted in both kosovo and sierra leone. In retrospect, where those interventions the right thing to do . In four weeks interventions the right thing to do . In fourweeks time, interventions the right thing to do . In four weeks time, you could be Prime Minister and commanders in chief. When you think about the enormity of the office, is that the pa rt of enormity of the office, is that the part of the job that scares you most . He mentioned the problem of the vetoes. How else would you seek legitimacy for action, and what is your reaction to responsibility to protect in a humanitarian crisis . Thanks. John, the question about our security is obviously paramount. I made that very clear, emily has made that clear in her statements. Clearly, the importance is to protect people, all of our people, to make sure theyre not under any kind of threat. Does that mean there are some circumstances where you use Military Force . Yes, there are. If you think back to earth yesterday, many in this room, nobody in this room was around at the time of the first world war, but im sure many would have questions its legitimacy. I doubt would have questions its legitimacy. Idoubt any would have questions its legitimacy. I doubt any or many in this room would have doubted the legitimacy of the second world war, because of the catastrophe that arose from the rise of the nazis. There has to be that preparedness to use Military Force. Now, the question that was raised also, continuing your theme, concerning kosovo and sierra leone. The situation in kosovo was not good. Could it have been dealt with ina different good. Could it have been dealt with in a different way and with a different approach . Yes, i believe it could. On sierra leone, there was actually quite wide agreement on the principles behind it, but there has to Bea Principles behind it, but there has to be a follow up as well, and the follow up has to be the kind of support and Nation Building Duties at the end, and have been places ive been to weather has been a un backed Military Action in order to bring about or insure eight ceasefire and continue developments in that country. For example, a un observer that East Timor Referendum which had come at the end of an appalling civil war that has gone on for decades, with Tens Of Thousands of people lost their lives, and that military Un Intervention to enforce the ceasefire, by and large, worked. And i think we have to be aware that there are cases where you can do that, but it has to be done on a basis of law and it has to be done through the United Nations. On the question of vetoes and responsibility to protect, and interested in the responsibility to protect, issue and argument. I think it has to be backed up by International Law and backed up by the United Nations. I have also been in rwanda and the democratic republic of congo. The war there has claimed probably more lives than any other conflict that has happened since the second world war. It has not have the attention of the worlds media, it has not had the concentration of the worlds media, and the killing has gone on. Rape has become an instrument of war there. I have met hundreds of women who were collective victims of rape, and it was the most dramatic and edges could have experience of my life, just talk to them. That something have been done . Yes. Could we have done more to get a ceasefire and other things . Yes. Why didnt we . One answer is the economic interests of people who didnt want us to intervene because of getting wealth out of there. Could something have been done to intervene in the genocide of rwanda . Yes, i think it good. I have met people in rwanda who feel bitter to this day is that more was not done. And again, this seems to be an assumption that a war in africa is somehow a rather different to something on the edges of europe. Sol different to something on the edges of europe. So i think we have to engage. Real so have to engage positively afterwards, because if you think of nations that have come out of conflict, take colombia or el salvador. Columbia, decades and decades of civil war. Eventually, by good action by neighbouring countries, ceasefire was produced and Peace Process has developed. But if you dont stay the course afterwards, as happened in salvador, those Who Were Formerly Protagonists in the civil war, then end up on criminal gangs, and you have a similar degree of killing and instability, this time for a crime, rather than the purposes of engagement in the civil war. So it is about engagement, but its also about the use of the un and International Law. Jeremy corbyn continuing to answer questions they are at Chatham House, following that Foreign Policy speech. Were going to get the assessment of our assistant Political Editor norman smith injust a moment. But first, the foreign secretary borisjohnson is out campaigning in south wales and was asked for his reaction to Jeremy Corbyns plans. and was asked for his reaction to Jeremy Corbyns plans. I am worried about the things Jeremy Corbyn stands for. This is a time of great uncertainty. Russia is causing all sorts of trouble in Eastern Europe and elsewhere, not least in syria. We have A Global Threat from terrorism. We have to be firm, we have to support nato and we have to have to support nato and we have to have a very robust response to terrorism. Jeremy corbyn has campaigned all his life to weaken the uks defences. He thinks that nato is nonsense. I think he is still the chair of the campaign for nuclear disarmament. I find it alarming that just last nuclear disarmament. I find it Alarming Thatjust last month, when we sent enhanced presence to shore up we sent enhanced presence to shore Up Ourfriends we sent enhanced presence to shore up our friends in we sent enhanced presence to shore Up Ourfriends in the baltics, uk troops went to estonia, he said that was escalation of tension. What this country needs is a strong, clear, robust approach to defences, and im afraid Jeremy Corbyns approach is chaotic and offers the reverse. Borisjohnson chaotic and offers the reverse. Boris johnson saying chaotic and offers the reverse. Borisjohnson saying he is genuinely alarmed byJeremy Corbyns Foreign Policy approach. We can speak to our assistant Political Editor norman smith. Jeremy corbyn didnt go into detail about when he thought intervention would be necessary, although he was asked about kosovo, sierra leone and in retrospect, was he right to oppose action there . What did you make of that speech . oppose action there . What did you make of that speech . I was struck by how comfortable Jeremy Corbyn was articulating what are, for most leading politicians, quite unconventional views about britains place in the world, about Nuclear Weapons and conflict. The reason for that as the ease of useJeremy Corbyn has held for 30 years or more, they are central to his political philosophy. Suffer him, this is part of his political dna. He again signalled his deep relu cta nce he again signalled his deep reluctance ever to use Military Force. He was pressed about when he might use it. He stood by his opposition to the iraq war and syria and libya, but also to kosovo and sierra leone, which is widely viewed as something of a Success Story for British Military intervention to stop the slaughter, the civil war taking place there. Mr corbyn defending his opposition to that. Fresh elections in two suggests the only war but she cited was justified was world war ii which i imagine eve ryo ne was world war ii which i imagine everyone would think was justified. You didnt get the sense in the contemporary context of today of when and how mr corbyn might authorise Military Action. A relatively bedrooms are most inconceivable he might do that. When Nuclear Weapons very familiar terrain, he has long opposed them and he asked himself rhetorically would i ever press the nuclear button. He thenjust would i ever press the nuclear button. He then just said what an extraordinary question. I take it from that that he wouldnt. This was Jeremy Corbyn setting out his long standing views on war and britains place in the world which marks really a huge change with that of traditional Labour Leaders. Thank you. We felt the premise that is pro campaigning in the north east, of political correspondences on the Campaign Trail with her and as you mentioned in the introduction, Shuai Zhang Territory is used to be solid labour but it is a region of very recently the elected a conservative mayor. What sort of miss his fishy going to be delivering to date . Berwick upon tweed was different because that was one from the liberal democrats, pretty marginal but that is where her first visit is going to be back later today she is going to be back later today she is going to be back later today she is going to make a pretty audacious bid to try and win over Labour Voters, and areas where the tories wouldnt have dared to go in the last 20 yea rs or have dared to go in the last 20 years or so. The message she is using to try and appeal to Labour Voters as to say thatJeremy Corbyn has abandoned them, that they havent abandoned him that he has not representing the core values of Traditional Labour voters. And very much maligned to what were hearing from Jeremy Corbyn, the idea of packed as she is going to seize on seeing that he has deserted the proud and patriotic working class people and millions of people who supported labour for generations have been abandoned by him. I think what is interesting as she is really trying to break down the tribal loyalty that many feel to the labour party, the message from the conservatives is going to be you dont have to feel bad about Voting Conservative. Because they say Jeremy Corbyn doesnt represent your views any more. Im sure we will again he had talking about strong and stable leadership and especially when it comes to issues like defence, the conservatives are really feel that you may remember a couple of years ago and Jeremy Corbyn was not singing the national anthem, is used on trident and his apparent reluctance to use that in the defence of the nation, they think that goes down very badly in places like this in the north east and are trying to say that theresa may is a different kind of leader so this issue of leadership very much at the forefront, no policy announcements today, very much about the idea of choosing the next by minister and additional qualities. The liberal democrats have confirmed they would make the sale of cannabis legal of elected. They would allow licensed shop to sell the drugs to over 18 s and people could us grow cannabis at home and smoke and small social clubs. In 2014 a government report found there was no evidence that tough enforcement of drug was legible levels of usage. A coroner rules 14 year old nasar ahmed died after a reaction to a school lunch. Nasar ahmed had severe asthma and multiple allergies, when he fell ill at school in november. Two hours before he collapsed he ate a meal he was allergic to. Staff failed to correctly administer his medication before paramedics arrived. Our correspondent Richard Lister is at poplar coroners the 14 year old had a history of very severe food allergies, he was allergic to await range of things and had severe asthma and one could trigger the asthma, anyone of those ingredients. On the day in question, november the tenth, he had had Chicken Tandoori for lunch and something in it probably in the 14 has triggered a very severe allergic reaction. He was within two hours collapsed onto the floor, there were three members of school staff came to him very quickly and they all tried to find out what was wrong, the initially said he didnt have any illnesses, didnt mention the allergies but what about the course of this enquiry was that they should also have known that he had a care plan that the school had gone through his medical history, that they were aware of the problems that he had, that he had a First Aid Box with an inhaler and crucially and Adrenaline Injector by the coroner made very clear that it had been a problem with this in that school had wrongly assessed his condition on the wrong forum, they said he was mildly to moderately impaired by his condition when they should have said that the problem was severe. In doing so they made no reference in their care plan to the fact that he had this adrenaline and, but should have been used in any situation like this. It wasnt used and four days after she was taken to hospital he died. It was a whole list of things that had contributed to his death and the coroner said that had that adrenaline penny been used, it was possible but not probable that his life had been saved. And the coroner has made a number of recommendations to try to prevent incidents like this happening in future, take us through those. She made five reports to the various agencies involved and basically she was trying to say there needs to be more consistency in the way that medical professionals deal with severe allergies in this case, that there should always be a preference to using these Adrenaline Boosters because it could have been instrumental in having a very different outcome. She also made recommendations to the school involved and the medical professionals and they are about the way that they conduct their care plans and speaking after this narrative conclusion to this case, the boy s mother said she had been very badly let down by the school. feel many have failed a care of duty and field the right medication to my son and that is my reaction. I understand that they failed care of duty for my son, if they gave him the injection thats tame within five minutes maybe it is a tough saved his life. The school in east london has issued a statement saying the safety of those in their care is of course their overriding concern and following the death be recklessly reviewed on Safety Procedures and are providing more for staff across the board and we are now considering the advice of the coroner and whether that means that should take further action. Thank you. Tony blair has said it is vital that the open border between Northern Ireland and the Republic Of Ireland remains in place after brexit. Following a meeting of meps, the former Prime Minister said that during the brexit negotiations the Peace Process had to be safeguarded and any potential damage or disruption minimised. His comments come as the eu chief negotiator on brexit Michel Barnier visited ireland to consider the challenges brexit presents for the country. I am extremely anxious to make sure that brexit does not impair that agreement, that we continue to have the closest possible relationship between Northern Ireland and the Republic Of Ireland. There are really important and difficult challenges in this. At the moment, we have a common travel area, where people can travel freely between south and north, between North And South, on the island of ireland. This is vital to maintain. In addition, the open border between the North And South has, in terms of trade, has done an immense amount for the uk irish trade and commercial relationships, and obviously, its important that, although there will be difficult challenges in relation to this, that we again safeguard as much of that as possible, and minimise any potential damage. Donald trump has been defending his decision to sack the director of the fbi. In a tv interview last night he called him a showboat in his first extensive Television Interview since he sacked the fbis directorjames comey, he told the American Network nbc our washington correspondent laura bicker reports. Hes become more famous than me famous, or up. Thousands of weapons have been seized in schools across england and wales. They include swords, axes and air guns. Some of the cases involved children as young as five. Police chiefs said there had been a worrying increase in young people carrying knives. Andy moore reports. Some schools have taken to using metal arches to make sure no weapons are brought on to their premises. But figures obtained by the press Association Show that the number of seizures in the last year is up about 20 on the previous year. 32 out of 43 Police Forces in england and wales responded to Freedom Of Information requests about weapons found in schools. The figures showed that 2,579 weapons were found in the two years to march this year. Among them were samurai swords, axes and air guns. At least 47 children were below the age of ten, and one five year old was caught with a knife. Just one stab wound, that went straight in his heart. The National Police Chiefs Council said the increase in young people carrying weapons was worrying. It said it wanted to educate people that carrying a weapon illegally is never acceptable. Our Technology Correspondent rory cellan jones, explained why the Japanese Company behind the investment, is backing various tech companies. It is going round the world looking for the brightest technology ideas, it had a lot of money to spend. Last year it bought the jewel in the crown a British Technology for a vast amount of money, this year it is putting this huge sum into improbable, it is an absolutely extraordinary gamble, with a very early stage, an amazing vision that you sort proclaimed but they have a lot of work to do before realising it and before proving that people wa nt to it and before proving that people want to live in these Virtual Worlds and that companies are willing to pay good money to do this kind of thing. What they are basically saying is that the Virtual Reality games that we are seeing at the moment arejust the games that we are seeing at the moment are just the beginning of a whole new way of seeing the world and operating within it. Were not just talking about games, talking about simulations of the real world as we heard in that clip on a very large scale. Tell us more about that. One of the things they have been working on is to build a city the size of london as a Virtual World with millions of people using fast summit of data. Frances the mike phelan all the data from a London Transport system you might build a newjuggling in this Virtual World and see how people reacted to the arrival of that new tube line. That is the kind of application that you can build things in the Virtual World just like that and see how people react to them and therefore plan things in a much more efficient way. So this money is reasonably going to be used to develop that work rather and the two guys, they met at cambridge and visit of this companyjust met at cambridge and visit of this company just five years ago. Yes to your Computer Science graduates at cambridge, they were discussing their dissertations together and thought there could be a business. We got together and build it and it isa we got together and build it and it is a great validation of the kind of technologies that are now coming out of British Universities and actually been turned into real businesses. This is bbc newsroom live, the headlines. Jeremy corbyn sets out his vision on Foreign Policy he says he isnt a pacifist and is prepared to use Military Force as a last resort. A coroner rules 14 year old nasar ahmed died after a reaction to a school lunch and sets out a range of measures aimed at protecting children with allergic reactions in schools. And at a meeting in ireland, tony blair says Northern Ireland must be a special case in brexit talks to minimise any potential damage to the agreement between Northern Ireland and the republic. Trident is a fundamental issue to voters in barrow. But is it the only issue . This is a marginal seat for labour John Woodcock won it by fewer than 800 votes in the 2015 General Election. That means the conservatives are targeting a win here at this election because they onlyjust fell short last time. Can labour hang on in the seat . Our Political Editor Nina Warhurst reports. In Barrow Town Centre a statue stands tall. To the welders, the gaffers, the men and women who made the shipyard great. But now they feel under threat from an Opposition Party whose stance on nuclear feels ambivalent at best. And its notjust the 8,000 trident jobs at stake. You can talk about the shops in the town, the hairdressers, whatever industry or sector you are in in the town, the size of bae to barrow affects every part of the community. This has been a labour town, but like labour towns across the country, industry is not the only issue at play in this election. Im not racist or nothing but theyre thinking more about the foreigners than they are us lot that lived here first. You feel they get better protection and more help than you . Yes. In terms of . Housing, money, jobs. I think the tories will prevail. The Furness Railway pub sits close to the terraced houses which have been homes to Shipyard Workers for generations. Here Party Loyalty is being questioned. Ive always voted labour but im not going to vote labour this time because theresa may is doing a wonderfuljob. I think shes a very articulate woman, very genuine, i think shes a good politician. Are you surprised that youre Voting Conservative . Iam, yes. But on the big issues its labour that andy and barry turn to and always will. Free car parking for patients obviously and i think over a period of time they will bring in more people to work in the nhs which sadly at the moment they are lacking. So you trust labour more when it comes to the nhs . With that, yes i do. Its in my blood i guess, ill always be a labour man. Particularly here in barrow, it is a labour town, its a working mans town. Thats damn well how it should be. The labour party cant blame Jeremy Corbyn for all of its problems in barrow because they predate his leadership. In 2015 their majority was cut from more than 5,000 votes to fewer than 800. They know that a tiny swing would tip it and they are concerned that this leader isnt connecting with voters. And this is where the corbyn factor comes in. Can barrow connect with a man described as marmite even by those closest to him . Terry has been a Labour Party Member for more than 50 years and terry is worried. Hes not their sort of person. We dont live in some suburb of london where you go in a cafe and everybody agrees with you. This is downtown barrow in furness. We hear what he says but we dont believe it. Hes not our cup of tea. Do think that could lose you the seat . Yes, of course that could. But could doesnt mean will. Four weeks is a long time in politics. Caitlynjenner says shes now living as her true self following her transition to living as a woman. As bruce she won an olympic medal and she described how she had used sport to prove her masculinity while growing up. Shes been speaking tojoanna gosling on the Victoria Derbyshire programme. Iam the i am the happiest and most content had been in my life, my letter so much simpler mode. You wake up in the morning and be yourself. It is nice. How important is it for you to tell your story . Really important. Every journey is tell your story . Really important. Everyjourney is different. As i have learned one thing over the last two years because two years ago when icame two years because two years ago when i came out, i had never met another person who was trans so ideal that didnt know anything about the committee. But i realised then that two years committee. But i realised then that two yea rs is committee. But i realised then that two years is that every story is different. They put me as a spokesperson for the Trans Committee i have not, i am a spokesperson for my story and every time i tell my story either to my children or friends or to god, it is like taking thousands of pounds of weight off my shoulder. I feel so good after that is over because it would have to lie to that person any more. All the different chapters of the asked to two years was working on the book. It was a lifetime in the making but two years, almost 8000 pages of memoirs and secrets and things that i had been through that my family didnt even know. When you struggle with this, you struggle in the shadows and they didnt want to be in the shadows any more and i wanted my entire family and the public to know my story. So you kept meticulous notes . Ike bettman dickie was not in my head, i sat down with a Pulitzer Prize winning writer and we have such a great collaboration between the two. We have been on the New York Times bestseller list. I grew up as it were a little dyslexic tent and so im sure my High School English teacher if she is still around is saying wait a second, that is amazing to be a New York Times bestselling author. It was the final chapter to that that i needed to go to the public to tell my story honestly. Its the finals of the Eurovision Song Contest tomorrow. Last night ireland crashed out of the semi finals but the uk will be represented by the former x factor contestant lucie jones in kiev. Ten acts from each semifinal have gone through to saturdays grand final and join the so called big five france, germany, italy, spain and United Kingdom and host country, ukraine. The Labour Leader uses a Foreign Policy speech to say the War On Terror has failed and its a time forfresh thinking. He says he accepts Military Action is sometimes necessary but should be a last resort. The philosophy, bomb first, talk later approach to security has failed. To persist with it, as the conservative government has made clear its determined to do, is a recipe for increasing not reducing threats in security. Well have the latest from the Campaign Trail.
