Poverty and cultural traditions push young girls into marriage in Malawi

Malawi’s long-running problem of girls marrying early and quitting school appears to be getting worse. In addition to the traditional causes of this trend – poverty and cultural beliefs – some traditional leaders are blaming Malawian migrant workers who take child brides with them to jobs abroad.
