At least 171 Orange County public-school students tested positive for COVID-19 last week after socializing or traveling during spring breaks that stretched for 10 days for most kids. Nearly half of those new cases – 82 – were among high school students, according to test results the county's 16 districts reported to the state Department of Health on Friday. The tallies began with April 4 and didn't include any additional positive results that came to light later on Friday or over the weekend. Newburgh, the county's largest district with 10,835 students, reported 39 new cases among students last week, including 17 at Newburgh Free Academy, its high school. Monroe-Woodbury, which has 6,728 students and is the second largest district, had 24 new student infections, 16 of them at the high school.
