Let me i have the pleasure of introducing mike, i certainly want to acknowledge again our commissioner, adrian garcia, who is doing an outstanding job. Give it up again to commissioner garcia. Look, i want to thank you for allowing me to be your mayor, number one. Let me thank you. And let me say to you, whats important for mayors, getting things done. Because whats important to you is what happens at your home, on your street, in your community, in your city. And Mike Bloomberg was mayor of noverbingt for 12 years. Of new york city for 12 years. For 12 years. Then what we know as mayors, you can talk a good game but at the end of the day, what people want, people want results. They want things to happen thats positive and impactful in their lives. They want to make sure when it comes to infrastructure, that were making those things take place. They want job creation. And when i looked at what Mike Bloomberg did in new york for 12 years, the creation of nearly 00 jobs, 500,000 jobs, 500,000 jobs, thats a long way from 500, 500,000 jobs in new york city. When it comes to expanding health care, which is critically important, affordable and Accessible Health care, thats a critical component. And for me on a personal note, its not just about being mayor, but growing up in this city and coming out of a household where neither parent graduated from high school, where we didnt have private Health Insurance, where literally we would go to ben cobb ha hospital, get there early in the morning and stay there all day long, a dad who died of cancer when i was 13 because we didnt have any private Health Insurance so he literally would go and get painkillers and took those painkillers until he died. Let me tell you, its hell to be poor and its hell not to have access to Affordable Health care. When i looked at what Mike Bloomberg has done, expanding Health Care Services over 700,000 people, mike is someone who has gotten it done. When you focus on communities that have been underserved and underresourced, like the community in which i was born and reared, mike has gone in to five of thoser a areas, major areas of new york city, and literally turned those areas around. When we talk about closing the achievement gap, for education, because if you want to move people up, you got to provide them with opportunities, educational opportunities, job opportunities, all of those things are important, Mike Bloomberg has gotten the job done. And so when it comes to who you want to be the next president , its not about just the rhetoric, its about the action. Its about being able to be in a position to make sure that our future is better than what our past has been, and putting someone in the in the white house who can get it done, who can maintain respect and integrity, and can pull us together and not divide us and separate us apart. And when i look at all of those things, as someone who i believe can get it done, is a winner, can defeat the person that is there and send them packing, for me, the charge is very the choice is very clear. Ladies and gentlemen, its my pleasure, to bring to the stage someone who i believe will be the next president of the United States of america, the honorable Mike Bloomberg. [cheers and applause] you read it the way i wrote it and i thank addry and garcia and for his support and thank you for this warm welcome. You think this is cold, wait until you get to new york. It is really cold there. Let me wish everyone a very happy texas independence day. We do not celebrate that in new york, surprise, surprise. Thats on monday and the next y is super tuesday and nominate a candidate who will liberate us from the insanity of donald trump. This is my fourth visit to houston since christmas, so this is like my home away from home. And i considered waiting a couple more weeks to return but e combination of rodeo was tempting. I couldnt wait for another box of shiplys. Before i talk about this campaign, i want to say about the crisis thats facing our country and the world. He fired the entire White House Team in charge of response to pandemics and he predicted this whole thing is going to be over in two months. The president is not a scientist. He doesnt even believe in science and not leading and reacting and much, much too late and his incompetence does put us at risk. In times like this, we need proven leadership in the white house. We need somebody who has led during a crisis, who believes in science and invests in preparation and listens to experts. We need somebody yes, you should applaud. Applausela applause we need somebody who understands that the u. S. Is responsible for keeping americans safe from a pandemic and helping to lead the Global Response to combat it and contain it. We need a president who protecting the health of the American People their number one priority at all times. I can promise you that is the kind of president i would be. [applause] now over the past few months i have been across the great state of texas and took our campaign bus called the lets get it done express from san antonio, to waco, to dallas and i picked up one of the most celebrated justices in american history, the one and only judge judy. Im horpped to have her support and i can just tell you if republicans in the senate were half as tough as she is, they would have convicted President Trump on the impeachment charges. [applause] since they didnt vote to remove him from office, we are going to do it in november. [applause] i can also tell you that judge judy and i ate more brisket than ever have in my life. We built a Campaign Team led by houstons own Ashley Turner and got almost 20 field offices and 180 staff on the ground across texas and everyone is hard at work. Early voting is in full swing and we only have five days until super tuesday. We need clutch city to come through. We need to wrap up here this morning and i hope all of you will help build our texas team and get out the vote. I hope youll tell your friends and families and neighbors how important their votes are. If they ask about my campaign and what its all about, just tell them im running a campaign for change, for sanity, for honesty, inclusion, compassion and a campaign for human decency. And we dont have it in the white house right now. [applause] i am running to restore honor to our government and to build a country that we are proud of and to start getting things done and start putting the united back into the United States of america. And all that starts with beating donald trump. Back in 2016 if you remember, 2016 is not that long ago, i spoke at the Democratic Convention and warped that donald trump was not fit for office. In 2018, i worked to hold him accountable by flipping 21 house seats including right here in houston. And that made nancy pelosi speaker and allowed us to Start Holding donald trump accountable through the impeachment process. Thats where it came from. Trumps strategy is attack democrats and make their plans unrealistic and undoable. Ta is not going to work against me and its not going to work against you. I have the record and we have the resources to defeat him in swing states the democrats lost in 2016 and to finally turn texas blue. [applause] and capture those 38 electoral votes and flip the texas house. Now i know we can do it. My friend beto showed we are getting close. But to get it done we need to nominate someone at the top of the ticket who can build a Broad Coalition that rallies democrats and atacts independents and moderate republicans. Thats what i have done in the three races in new york city and i know how to do this. I am not a typical politician. I showed that a week or so in the debate. I never worked in a place where everyone talks on top of each other. My mother would have shot me if i did that. I never worked in washington and i dont make pie in the sky promises and dont talk until the cows come home. I dont yell slogans even when theyre not true. Two of those debates, they have the same answer no matter what the question was. I dont know how you do that. I believe we need a leader who is ready to be commander in chief, not the college debater in chief. So if you want someone who talks turkey and who has a record of flishments on all the big issues facing our country and if you want someone who has the resources to beat trump, thats me. [applause] i give virtually all my Companies Profits to charity and no better investment that i can make in the future of our country than spending to defeat donald trump. [applause] and if you think this campaign is expensive, just imagine what four more years of donald trump would cost us. I think it would be a catastrophe and im in this race to stop it. Now even though this is going to surprise you, donald and i are both from new york, we couldnt be more different. Campaigned and say im the untrump. He breaks promises, i keep them. He divides people, i unite them. He is a climate denier. I actually believe in science. E treats, i follow respect and data and he looks at people who inherited that wealth. I started with nothing but my parents teaching me hard work and ethical behavior and ill start raising taxes on the wealthy and paying for infrastructure and steppeding health care and improving education and all the other things we need to strengthen our great country. My whole career i have been a doer and i believe we need less talk, we need less partisanship, less division, less tweeting. In fact, and i do this in every speech, im shameless about this, what about an agreement no tweeting from the oval office ever again. Id easy for me to say because cant spell. But then again, neither can donald. Now i have been pretty blessed in life and there is nothing that someone can do or say to hurt me, but he has hurt a lot of other people and im standing up for every american who lost their job or lost their insurance or cant pay their college tuition. You heard the slogan, mike will get it done. It is on our literature. If you havent, we spent a lot of money for nothing. It means winning this november and sending donald trump back to maralago permanently. [applause] but thats just the beginning because getting it done finally means providing Health Insurance for every american who lacks it and lowering costs to everyone else and we can do it without kicking 155 Million People off their Health Insurance that they have now and imposing a massive tax increase on working people. Getting it done means passing gun safety laws to protect our children and communities. Getting it done means making america a Global Leader in the fight against climate change. Getting it done means creating good jobs and higher wages. Geting it done means addressing discrimination and inequality. Getting it done means fixing our broken immigration system and path to citizenship for 11 Million People living in the shadows. And getting it done means protecting a womans right to choose and appointing judges who will defend that. Now, it wont be easy but we can do it because unlike other candidates, i have a record of reaching across the aisle and getting them done and ill give you a couple of examples of how you can reach across the aisle and make our government work. Other candidates talk about raising teachers salary. In new york city i raised teachers salary 43 . The results came through. Everybody talks about raising public schools, making them better, in our case, Graduation Rates went up 40 during the 12 years i was in office. In new york city, we cut the number of uninsured by 40 and care for babies and mothers and raising Life Expectancy in new york city by three whole years. If you want to live longer, im not saying you want to do this and dont want to say anything derogatory against texas, but if you want to live three years longer, vote for me. Others talk about climate change. In new york city, we cut it by 14 and our foundation has worked with the sierra club and replaced with cleaner energy and on the ways to get rid of all 530 coalfired power plants within the next five years. Green jobs, we can get it done. We have been doing this. We are just not talking about that. E have closed 304 coalfired power plants. Their pollutants is the same stuff ta we breathe. Others talk about stopping gun violence. I can tell you in new york city, i helped create a Gun Safety Group with six million members that is working to pass common delens gun laws. Moms demand action, that is all of that. I can see the shirts. Right here. You deserve enormous amount of credit. I just take pictures with you. I do know how to bring people together to solve problems. Thats the way i have ran my company and new york city. If you go back and think about it, i was legitimated seven weeks after the devastating terrorist attacks of 9 11. Our city was in at that timers, our economy was in recession and still smoke coming out of the voids where the two towers were. I brought people together and people from texas came and helped us and people around the world came as well and created 500,000 jobs and 175,000 units of Affordable Housing after that. Reduced street homelessness by 28 . We rebuilt our city stronger ever. And how to put things together nd deal with crises like the hurricane sandy. You have to prepare and have key people in place and delegate to them and let them do it. And thats what i do spell. There is no i in team. Donald trump has the letter i in team and thats why it doesnt work. We have taken on the toughest fights and won and i have taken on donald trump and won many times on gun safety. He was in favor of the n. R. A. Coal pollution, we closed these coalfired plants and he said the mines with never close. We flipped the house blue in the 2018 election. 21 Congress People were elected that were good on guns, good on the climate. They put pelosi in charge and thats where the impeachment process started. I know how to play against donald trump and im ready to do it again. But i will say i cannot do it alone. I need your help and your support and your vote and talk to your friends and families and knock on doors and make phone calls and tell everybody about what our campaign is all about and how important this is. And when you talk to them just tell them, if you want Health Insurance for everyone and not just empty promises and combat inequality with fairer taxes and better jobs. If you want to submit my commitment to quality education no matter what zip code you live in, if you share in my belief of opportunity for all and not just for a few, if you are ready to protect and defend the constitution of the United States of america, if you are ready to clean out the oval office and get things done, and welcome to bloomberg, 2020. What did you learn . Sam thanks for having me. I am looking forward to the chance to talk to your audience. We commissioned the study because, if you actually count the people who did not vote in the last president ial election that would be the top vote getter, not vote is the top vote getter. We wanted to understand, if so many people are not voting who are they . Why are so many people disconnecting from this basic
