If you think about how many people are voting, how many people live in the united states . Then you realize that she did okay with those people who watched it. But the race has necessarily changed . Yes. And. For all the high marks that she received for her Debate Performance, she still has a lot of work to do. She absolutely does. And if you take a look at these numbers right here these are from Debate Watchers. Now, they didnt agree with her economic plan they didnt necessarily think that they heard enough from her. Look at Donald Trump went up a couple of points when he focused in on the economy clearly people who watched the debate Last Night again, these are the Debate Watchers. These are the ones who thought that she won the debate. Thinks it needs to needs to do some work on her economic plan that is really interesting there for such an important issue. So its not only the economic message where you think that she missed an opportunity last i mean, look at from a strategic standpoint, she did very well. I have prepped a lot of people for president ial debates. I know how the process goes she was on fire Last Night, certainly laserfocused, except i do believe that you, mr. An opportunity when this was discussed in springfield theyre eating the dogs, the people that came in, theyre eating the cats. Theyre eating, theyre eating the pets of the people that live there. And this is whats happening in our country and its a shame look, anytime you do not capitalize on your opponent talking about pets being eaten by immigrants in ohio for a story that is not even true, then your field to try to move the needle on that issue, why its important though all kidding aside, its important because its the undecided voters in these three midwestern states, right pennsylvania, michigan, wisconsin, rosa, looking at the sunbelt, georgia, arizona. I want to start where mark picked up on that Economy Number because cnn pulled folks that watched the debate and Donald Trump got a 20 Point Advantage on handling the economy from folks who watched 55 to 35 a bigger lead than he went into the debate with do you think her message on the economy needs to be tweaked why do you think that those voters felt that way after her Debate Performance . I mean, look, the numbers were almost identical going into the debate and coming out on that one question. And then that same survey you saw that a vast majority of voters believe that Kamala Harris, won the debate. And so i think thats whats really important. Courtney, look at, not just your cnn poll. This Focus Groups that have happened in, at other Media Organizations and the clear winner was Kamala Harris. Now, she talked about her homeownership. She talked about small business support. Those are the issues that continue to talk about in the campaign. Its important to note that she has been running now i mean, it hasnt even been what, two months since hes been able to get out and actually talk about her issues. And every week were seeing her consolidate more support, get more people on board, put up more policies the economy will be central to this campaign. And when she focuses on middleclass voters and middleclass issues, shes going to win. She was asked the question that ive actually asked you before, and it has to do with the Administrations Handling of immigration. She was specifically asked by the moderators why the administration waited six months before the election to try to pass immigration reform. She pointed to the senate bill, a bipartisan senate bill, and pointed out that former President Trump effectively tanked it. But Debate Watchers gave trump a 23 Point Advantage on immigration, believing that he would be better capable of handling that issue. Do you think she can do more to try to close that gap because aside from the economy, immigration is going to be a critical issue for voters. And she is going to work to close the rest of that gap. First, lets be clear. Commonly harris and President Biden actually introduced an immigration Reform Bill on their first day in office, republicans rejected it. Then they worked on a bipartisan bill that had support from republicans and democrats, Donald Trump tanked it because they want to advantage the Biden Harris Administration and Kamala Harris has been clear, she wants a secure border, but all also to treat people humanely and to have a process that is fair and that aligns with our values here as americans look, she is still a new candidate. She is getting out there going across the country, but the Bottom Line is Donald Trump was a disaster last Night Issue of immigration. Hes talking about immigrants eating pets eating, eating cats. I mean, this is someone that was completely unhinged Last Night, couldnt put together rational thoughts. She kept on the defensive every single time. And the one thing that for me stuck with me the most in that debate he couldnt even look at her, not once. Did he look at her . Because why . They have since said that shes not running on that, but thats not a part of her platform. Do you think she needs to clarify her position on that to neutralize it as an attack line. Look, i mean, i think shes i think that campaigns have been clear. Its not its not a central issue or an issue that shes really focused on in this election. Shes focused on lowering the price of insulin, say, in a safe and process along in the boardroom for immigration on Working Class families and on ensuring that we dont have Tax Cuts to the uber wealthy, which is what Donald Trump won. So that is a nonissue what we do know about the Vice President harris, shes actually a person though, of values that represents an actually supports everyone. And i think she spoke directly to the american people on that. Does it make it harder for her to fight attacks from him as an incumbent and it administration at broadly speaking, isnt that popular because one of the attack lines he gave at The End that i spoke to folks who who said that it resonated with them. Their inherited an economy in freefall. Unemployment was in a terrible position. We were facing credible economic collapse. We had a pandemic where one over 1 Million americans had died we had a health crisis. We had the country that was not united, but instead in a very difficult place as it relates to both jobs and peoples health. And they came in and now things have been improving. So there has been a recovery, but she understands thats not enough. She directly wants to help middleclass families, working families, take on price gouging, take on the price of take on the price of food, and make sure that everyone has access to an affordable home and being able to take Take Care to Family And Childcare thats who she is. There has been some backandforth over whether or not there will be a third debate or originally there was talk of one in late september on nbc. Her campaign has talked about a third one in october do you think there will be one . Should it be in late september . What do you think i dont think it matters when it is. I think the campaign wants to have a debate in october or next debate between the Vice President and Donald Trump. But he apparently is too scared to agree. Im hes telling folks that he wanted to debate, which is a joke. I mean, most republicans will tell you that he, of course it was a bad night for him, but he doesnt want to debate her again, he couldnt even glance her, wade, because hes so nervous to engage her. So im not that surprised. He doesnt want to debate her. He lost huge, he was incoherent and i think she showed the country that shes ready to be president of the united states. You dont have to be a at the Debate Expert to see that she was nervous, but she overcame it quickly if there are any further debates, i think shell start in a more confident position and how she can capitalize on this beyond debates, go out there and do an interview at an every network, even fox, show that youre unafraid of people who will try to bring you down. The speaker has had a really hard time getting his conference to unite behind this plan to pass a six month shortterm Spending Bill that would go into march and would include what is known as the save act. This is legislation that would bar legal immigrants from being able to vote in us elections. That is something that it is already illegal and democrats have largely been opposed to if democrats had been whipping against it. But johnson was dealing with the fact that he had at least eight members who had publicly said that they were planning to vote against the shortterm bill because they just dont believe and continuing Government Funding they wanted to pass these individuals Spending Bills that was never going to happen and despite the fact that they have been working for the last several days, house republicans were supposed to vote tonight and they realized this morning they were not going to have the votes to advance this legislation.
