Where we are expecting action on the floor of the u. S. House of representatives and cnns manu raju is there. I have been speaking to the House Republicans, as you have, and i am not expecting a different result. Is jim jordan . It is probably going to go poorly for him in a matter of moments here, jake. We expect the Republican Opposition in fact to grow, and remember that the first vote he lost 17 and then in the second vote it was 22, and they are believing it is close to 30, and some believe it is 29 republicans, and we will see if that is the case, but no one is believing he is going to be getting the votes to become speaker, and he can only afford three, because one of the supporters is in israel to bring down the total of what he needs raising so many questions and anger within the gop ranks of how to get out of this crisis that they themselves caused. If jim jordan does not get the votes which is widely expected, then some decisions to make, and does he continue on with another round of ballots which he can do as a speaker nominee, and does he continue the call for the votes trying to get him to get the people to come his way, and the supporters are urging him to do that and jordan is threatening to do it through the course of the weekend and if he bows out, that could lead the way to another speaker race for other candidates who are considering to put their name in the rink. The other thing that is discussed is to try to prop up the interim speaker, Patrick Mchenry to put his name on the floor to give him more powers, but the republicans are wildly opposed to that idea, and the democrats support that idea for the most part, and the republicans are badly divided over this, and they have shelved the idea of temporarily propping up Patrick Mchenry which is leading to so many more questions about this, and how to get out of this. If they cant figure that out, that means that so many huge issues to deal with and mainly aid to israel, aid to ukraine which is being pushed hard by the president pshg and trying to avoid another Government Shutdown by midnovember, and those cant be acted upon until the House Republicans can get behind the speak per and find a way out of the leadership crisis. At the moment, jake, there is no way out, and so we can see one ballot fail for jim jordan after another as frustration and anger is mounting within the house gop. Thank you manu raju, we will be coming back to you several times today i suspect. Last night, President Biden said that the world is at an inflection point, and at stake is billions of dollars of support for government and military support for ukraine and of course, the government cannot consider the pick until they pick a speaker of the house. Arlette ette saenz is at the wh house, and what are they hoping for . The white house is hope, jake, to submit the official request for additional funding for ukraine and israel for congress, and we expect the details to come out shortly. Two sources briefed on the matter say that the proposal is expected to top 150 billion of National Security funding, and 60 billion coming to ukraine and another 50 billion going to israel and those to last for a oneyear period in order to avoid the incremental fights going on when it is coming to funding these types of issues. The administration is to provide or request 10 bil 10 billion in humanitarian aid and also Border Security which the republicans have been pushing for, and also indochina security. And so for israel, reality is securing that funding on capitol hill is going to be very, very difficult. There is a poll that americans are unsure how much the americans should be involved in the war in israel, and waning support for providing Additional Support to ukraine. That is a sentiment shared by the majority of the American People as well as hardline conservatives up in the house. Then there is the issue of the broader paralysis facing the House Of Representatives at the moment. They are unable to consider or pass any type of legislation putting into real question of how soon the administration could get this aid to both ukraine and israel across the finish line. All right. Arlette, thank you so much. And while the acts speaker Patrick Mchenry is beginning the morning with a prayer, we go to the panel, and there are no signs that jim jordan can get to 217 votes, and in fact, he might even fall shorter today than he did yesterday which is even shorter than the day before, and yet, we are in matters of moments of crisis in ukraine an israel. There are not only innocent people dying in gaza, in israel and ukraine, these are american allies, and there are americans dying in those places. What is this if not narcissistic act of selfregard. I dont mean to laugh about this, but it is unimaginable that this is day 17. You know, to say it is groundhogs day, it is really too light. But, look, one of the things they am told, and two of my republican sources just texted me and said they expect jim jordan more noes. It is going in the wrong direction for him. Another thing to point out, and i have said it a couple of times over the last couple of days is Kevin Mccarthy. His name, if you go, he would not let the Architect Of The Capitol take his name off of the door. So when you are going to the speakers office, there you go. It still says Kevin Mccarthy. He is not the speaker of the house. He is not the speaker protem of the house. Well, how does he have the power to tell the architect to not take it off, and how does he have the power . He is no more the power than i do. And he is mchenry has the power more than he does. If you go to house. Gov, it also says that Kevin Mccarthy is the speaker of the house. You never know. And look, as glorias point over the last couple of days, people have tex ted me and said that his name may go back in because he only lost by eight votes, and the reality is that as long as there is no one else as speaker, Kevin Mccarthy is to your point, david, really controlling Patrick Mchenry who he put in this job. I just, it is sort of hard to figure out that jordan had a Press Conference this morning, and he tried to literally fly above, you know, 30,000 feet by talking about the Wright Brothers, and clearly trying to raise the level of discussion here, and remake himself into kind of a statesman. You know, we all need to unite, and so you can scratch your head and say, is this the jim jordan that i have watched for the umpteenth years who has never been the prime sponsor of a piece of legislation that has passed the congress, and we all know that, you know, john boehner called him a legislative terrorist, and et cetera, et cetera, and now he is kind of trying to change the tenor of the debate. This is the problem. They dont know who they are, and so they are changing who they are. Kevin mccarthy was a chamber of commerce central republican, and then a trumpee, and then jim jordan is a guy who tried to cut deals, and you cant lead if you dont know who you are, and they dont know who they are. So for the people watching on the left side of the screen, it is a quorum call, and basically taking attendance to know who is there. The speaker vote will require a majority of those there, so then you can know how many are there and they need 216 votes or 217 votes to win the speakership. However much jim jordan may want to be a statesman, Wright Brothers when the rights were stolen, it was not stolen, and he is a liar denyer. I think there are all kinds of problems with the 2020 election, and i have been clear about that. His name is all over or the select house committees investigation into the january 6th as a main conspirator according to the vice chair liz cheney, and defied a congressional subpoena, and if he does win, which it looks like he wont, but he would be the first to defy a subpoena. And a constitutional officer and you would be third in line to be president , and so jim jordan has 19 or 20 people voting against him so far, and that is going to tell you everything about the party, and why not more, and have the courage the say, we need to break from this. Donald trump lost the election, and joe biden was duly elected and look at the way it was done, but it was all upheld in the courts, and when the referee blows the whistle, it is over. They refuse to say game over. So why arent more republicans standing up to say, we need to break from this, and move on. Normally the parties set the agendas through the president ial parties and there is one of them playing out, and trump does not have one of those left, but this is a challenge for the republican party, stay there and denying the integrity of the election or break it and move on. It is break from this trumpism, but the other option is to stand up for democracy, which he refuses to do, right . He gave lip service, but the other day when asked that, he stayed silence. And the president gave him the Medal Of Freedom five days after that in a private ceremony the white house by trump. And he was wills at one point t willing at one point to allow Patrick Mchenry going with temporary speaker until one of the republicans in a private caucus knocked it down and held up the constitution and said, this is not the way that democracy works and we cant put him in, because it would be awful if we had to actually work with, oh, my god, democrats on the other side of the aisle which is one of the reasons that is of course they threw out mccarthy. Because he dared to compromise. When you are talking about what the republicans could not stand up to donald trump, and it occurred to me what jim jordan is doing right now is putting the country through this, and dragging the country through this, and dragging the republican conference through this and refusing to accept the facts that he does not have a votes is a mini version of what donald trump is still doing for the country and refusing to accept that he lost. He predates trump with the tea party, and adopted the tactics of bully, bully, bully. And he refuses to accept it, and regardless of the conference and regardless of the House Of Representatives and regardless of the United States of america and the world and because of his brittle ego, he is putting the United States of america through this. And there are other republicans who can do the job, Patrick Mchenry, steve womack, and paul emmert, and fiscal conservatives and people who will do individual Appropriations Bills, but it is so important to him that he is putting us through this just like donald trump did with the Election Loss that we are all still going through, and continuing to watch the quorum call ahead of jim jordans third attempt for speaker. We will go to erin burnett in israel where tensions are high ahead of the Ground Incursion. Stay with us. And you are looking at the floor of the House Of Representatives as we await congressman jim jordans third attempt to become the speaker of the house. They are now in a quorum vote, which is basically an attendance vote. The house needs a speaker before they can vote on any more new aid for israel and ukraine. And this is sparking more need as we go to erin burnett who is tel aviv. Yes, the palestinians in the west bank and we have seen them in sanaa and israel and the west bank as they have been getting out. And sara is in the city of ramallah, and a large and angry demonstration where she is as people left the mosque. Sara, a moment when somebody came up right in your face and they said, you are not welcome here, and we dont want you here. Can you tell us what you are seeing . Sure. Look, the tension, as i understand this, the tension is beyond high. There isnt a word for it, because of the images that people are seeing coming out of gaza, coming out from all over the gaza strip, children being killed, Familying Being wiped out, and the bombings happening, and the air strikes happening from israel, and the anger is very, very high. They do not like the coverage done by us or other international stations often. But there is this sense that there needs to be a place for people to explode their rage, because what can they do otherwise. Where can they go otherwise to try to deal with the trauma they are seeing of their people. Some of them have Family Members who live in gaza. Some of them are experiencing this on a very different scale than the rest of the world who is just looking in on this tragedy that is happening. There is also a sense, you know, from the israeli side of the perspective that they are also dealing with a huge tragedy that needs to be recognized by the world, and this existential fight that they have been having with hamas for as long as hamas has been around and as long as israel has existed. So this is going to be a natural course of thing, and did i get caught in middle of it, and sometimes it happens with journalists. Other journalists who watched it happen, and to be fair of them, they pulled me towards them and a little bit out of the fray. But it is completely understandable, because you are talking about 3,000plus People Killed in gaza, and talking about more than 10,000 people injured, right. And there a humanitarian crisis, and this is just the explosion of anger, and it came at me, and it happens sometimes, erin. All right. Thank you very much, sara, who was in ramallah, and the protests earlier today. Nic robertson is in sderot, israel near the border, and gaza has been using that area up and down the gaza strip as a Staging Ground as the military incursion, and i know that last time, nic, we were in a position anywhere remotely close in, the first action happened there, and so what is the situation there right now . Yeah, the military is poised and ready to go according to politician, and they have a green light, and the military has a green light, and up to them when they choose to go in but it is an uncanny, and odd day, erin. It is the quietest day we have experienced since the 7th of october. Very, very few fighter jets if any. Even the drones are silent. The drones are often a lot of them and low, and they make a lot, a lot of them making a Lawnmower Type of noise, but it has been quiet, and very, very few detonations that we have heard from gaza today. I dont think that we have taken, and there was actually a couple of incoming rockets earlier this morning, but it is isolated. It has been a very quiet day, and srt of the impression that while the military is poised for action behind the scenes, you would believe that there were some sort of diplomacy or talking ongoing about the hostages, about the humanitarian aid that is poised potentially to come in. So you are getting a feeling that the situation is poised here. But i know from the military perspective, when they have the troops forward deployed, they cant keep them out there forever, Thane Have Ey will hav a decision about them. As nic said, we found out from the id, if that the majority of the hostages are alive and to be able to say that and put out statement to say that is extremely significant and maybe it indicates that more is going to on than we know, but it is a quietest day where nic is and the quietest day that we have seen either. And so i am joined by the spokesman for the Israeli Defense forces, and so for what nic has seen and our team has been seeing, the quietest day so far, libby. Well, i dont know if there is anything to read from that, because israel is still under the rocket fire, and people are still sort of in mourning right now, and not to say they are reading anything into that, and from the military perspective, we are increasing the readiness force, and awaiting the final decisions from the government. And the protests are going on as you and i speak. In yemen, and looking at the pictures in sanaa, tens of thousands. In cairo today, protests as well, and the chance o displacement, and no homing, which is a Reference No Refugees coming to imman, and we saw them in the west bank, and are you concerned and is that legitimate to think of what the escalating protests may bring to the conflict . Of course, we are monitoring everything that is happening, but i have to say that we are, we have no choice but to make sure that hamas can never do this again. I dont know what to tell you, and i certainly leave it to the diplomatic level of how it is going to impact our activity, but the idf has no choice at this stage, because we have to make sure that hamas does not have any more chance of terror and using gaza strip as a Launch Ground for terror. I want to ask you about the hostages, because you did say earlier in the day, that a majority of them are believed to be alive, and when we called them, we wanted to know how they found out this information, but from the idf, at least 20 of the hostages are children. Are there any current negotiations going on . I understand that you wont tell us anything about the status, but are there conversations going on between israel and anybody in hamas or proxy for hamas about the hostages . I will let the diplomats do their very important work, and im not in a position to comment on that, but what i can say is that hamas is a terror organization, that is entirely committed to wiping israel off of the map. They say it themselves of course, and it is something that we have to consider, but i will let those who are in a better position to comment on nonnegotiations. Is there any hesitation at all by israel . W
