and quieter i can offer ii—ili. if you want something drier and quieter i can offer you that across england and wales into next week is an area of high pressure builds, keeping things quiet, but not further north. thanks, louise. and that's bbc news at six. you can keep up with all the latest developments on bbc website. from the six team it's goodbye. the news continues here on bbc one as now it's time to join our colleagues across the nations and regions for the news where you are. goodnight. hello and welcome to sportsday. i'm hugh ferris. the headlines this evening: the biggest punishment in premier league history — everton docked ten points for breaking financial rules. england are already at the euros. we'll be live at wembley and with the wales camp in armenia as they attempt to join them. after a ao—year wait for formula i to return to las vegas, another delay due to a bump in the road, literally. also coming up on sportsday: imagine this full. and blue. india sets out to win its cricket world cup, with 100,000 inside and another billion beyond. the premier 15s is no more — step forward a new league to take women's domestic rugby into a new era. hello again. ten years after the premier league introduced their financial fair play rules, they've led to the biggest sporting sanction in the competition's history. everton have been docked ten points for breaching the regulations, a punishment they've called "wholly disproportionate and unjust" and will appeal. but the deduction is immediate and drags them down from 14th in the table to second bottom and firmly into a relegation battle, but there could also be consequences beyond goodison park. just before coming on air, i spoke to our sports editor, dan roan. "everton football club is both shocked and disappointed by the ruling of the premier league's commission. the club believes that the commission has imposed a wholly disproportionate and unjust sporting sanction. the club has already communicated its intention to appeal the decision to the premier league. everton maintains that it has been open and transparent in the information it has provided to the premier league and that it has always respected the integrity of the process. both the harshness and severity of the sanction imposed by the commission are neither a fair nor a reasonable reflection of the evidence submitted. the club will also monitor with great interest the decisions made in any other cases concerning the premier league's profit and sustainability rules". our sports editor, dan roan, is at goodison park. well, the sense of dismay here at goodison is palpable. you will have seen the statement that everton released earlier saying that they were shocked and disappointed by what they have described as a disproportionate and unjust punishment. i think on top of the anger there is no doubt there will be a lot of concern about, for example, the prospect, potentially, of rival clubs that were relegated in recent seasons seeking millions of pounds worth of damages and compensation. we will have to wait and see if that materialises. then there is the prospective takeover by american investors of this club. that is currently going through the regulatory process. will this derail lapse? because this ten point deduction has been implemented, there is no doubts according to many that will be a regulation —— relegation battle again. at this point deduction it will be another challenging situation that the club faces over the coming months, so plenty of worries there. you can sense the frustration of fans who feel they are hard done by, that they are something of an easy target, yet speak to the supporters of other clubs and i will say that these financial regulations are there for a reason, they are designed to stop overspending, and with an independent financial regulator on the horizon it was time for the premier league to bare its teeth. the other significant elements of all this is those other clubs that face scrutiny over their finances, most obviously manchester city, who earlier this season were hit with more than 100 charges of breaching premier league rules. they deny any wrongdoing. more recently, chelsea, who face scrutiny over alleged secret payments linked to the previous club owner, roman abramovich. they are under investigation by the premier league. we don't know if charges will be brought. fans of both. it may well say if everton can be hit with a ten point deduction over one charge, if either of our clubs are found guilty over more serious allegations were more charges, then what might happen? even perhaps relegation? it also creates the impression of a somewhat chaotic and unsatisfactory situation for the premier league. it used to be said that the tables based on the performances of world—class players, but if the railings, commissions and workings of accountants and lawyers become more influential because of these various controversies, that may no longer be the case. dan roan. you've already got a sense of how everton are feeling from their statement. leon osman is a former player of the club and gave us more insight into the mood at goodison park everton feel like they have done everything they possibly could to remain within necessary boundaries. they have jumped through the hips asked of them, they have gone through the last few seasons with the salary cap in place, that is already having your hands tied behind your back because of sporting integrity, and they have this huge point deduction on top of that. the feelings are a bit raw at the moment. the feelings are a bit raw at the moment. liverpool's mayor, steve rotherham, says he will support everton*s appeal, calling the punishment excessive and grossly unfair, but the club's legendary goalkeeper neville southall claims everton should accept it and use the points deduction to galvanise them. these are some of the fans who were at goodison park as the announcement was made today. it isa it is a bit disappointing, but i think we will still be all right this year. the teams around us are looking too good. we can take the punishment and still be all right. all we can do at the end of the day is proved _ all we can do at the end of the day is proved to — all we can do at the end of the day is proved to the premier league that we are _ is proved to the premier league that we are everton football club and we will survive — we are everton football club and we will survive everything they throw at us _ everything they throw at us. gareth southgate might be grateful england's euro qualifier against malta tonight takes place with their spot in the finals already secure. they have only been able to have two training sessions, after a host of withdrawals earlier in the week led to three players being added to the squad. one or more might get their chance at wembley tonight, where we can join our correspondent natalie pirks. southgate will have some slightly different resources at his disposal tonight. very much so, in what is his his 90th match as england manager, seven years after it took over in the wake of this sam allardyce chaos, shall we say. his first match in charge was multi—here at wembley, so a full—circle moment for him. that 3—1 win over italy as she had that england qualified for the euros with two matches to spare, but there still stuff to for. one point here tonight ensures they top the group, meaning there will be top seeds for the draw, which is important if they want to avoid some of the big boys in the group stages. they have had five big withdrawals, three new players have come in and it is a good opportunity for the likes of trent alexander—arnold to show they can to in midfield, the likes of mark kay to cement a spot at centre back, orat mark kay to cement a spot at centre back, or at least make sure he is first runner—up for the opposition. and cole palmer, to see if he can perhaps get his first senior cap. sir bobby charlton's funeral on monday, and this is the first game since his passing. now england will have the chance to reflect on that. yes, this is the first opportunity really for england fans to say goodbye to a player that served england so well. a player that got 106 caps for his country. tonight we will see black arm bands warned by the incan players, we will see our mosaic in the crowd and there will also be a period of applause for, frankly, a legend of england deaf football. gareth southgate has talked about how he showed some of the players when they met up at st george's video a video talking about bobby charlton, showing what he was like as a player. for him, he says he wants to make income players certain of their identity and you only know about your identity by learning about your history, and boy, what a contribution to england *s history sir charlton made. elsewhere, northern ireland's match in much more on our website, of course. that's all from sportsday. goodbye. hello again. well, it's been a lovely sunny day across the vast majority of the country with blue skies, some wonderful autumn colours at the moment, but our weather won't be looking like this as we head into the weekend, no, because we leave behind this slice of sunshine and we have to look out into the atlantic to this area of cloud. this is an area of low pressure that's going to be bringing us some wet and some windy weather, both on saturday and on sunday, as well. the wind is coming in from a south—westerly direction and they will ultimately be bringing in some much milder weather conditions. back to tonight's forecast, first of all, and we've got that rain beginning to arrive, pushing its way steadily north and eastwards with the wind strengthening, particularly into coastal areas of western scotland where, by the end of the night, we will probably see some gusts of around a5—55mph. but is one of those nights where temperatures will be rising through the night across the south—west. by dawn, we're looking at temperatures of around 1a degrees. and in terms of the rainfall on saturday, we're all going to get some, but it's across south—west england where there are one 01’ two concerns. 15—30 millimetres of rain — in the grand scheme of autumn lows that's not a huge amount, but across this part of the uk, we've already seen well over the november average rainfall so far, so this extra rain could cause one or two problems with surface water flooding. the rain band does push its way through. a lot of cloud following. then come the showers, with blustery winds everywhere, but particularly so for a time across the western coasts of scotland. it will be a mild day, milder than it was on friday, with temperatures for most between around 12—16 degrees. 0n into sunday's forecast and low pressure is moving across into northern scotland. not particularly windy here, the strongest winds will be heading into the south—west of england, where we could see some gusts of a05, maybe even 50s in miles—an—hour. the wettest weather for northern ireland, northern england and north wales, with rain looking like it's going to be quite persistent here. it will be another mild day, temperatures around 12—1a degrees for most. that area of low pressure starts to slip away into monday. we'll get
