Us Secretary Of State Antony Blinken will meet israels Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to show solidarity and try to prevent a wider Conflict Erupting in the middle east. Israeli media says the number of those at killed in attacks by hamas has risen to at least 1300. Israeli air strikes on gaza have continued killing your than 1200 people. They Gaza Health Ministry says at least 51 people were killed overnight. A humanitarian situation is worsening in gaza after israel ordered a complete siege. 0n on wednesday the only Power Station in gaza ran out of fuel meaning the area is lying on generators. These area is lying on generators. These are some of the other Key Developments as art. The United Nations says more than 338,000 people have now been forced to flee their homes into gaza. Ahead of a possible incursion Benjamin Netanyahu has established a National Emergency unity government with the Opposition Leader benny gantz. Israel has continued its mobilisation of troops. Hundreds of thousands are on the southern boundary with gaza. President biden says he has told mr netanyahu that israel must abide by the rules of law in its fight against us. We are expecting to hear from the israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the us Secretary Of State Antony Blinken. They are due to hold a Press Conference shortly. We will bring you that as soon as it happens. You can see the ready and waiting so we will cross with when speaking. In the meantime lets take you to the scene live in gaza. The Health Ministry has just confirmed 1345 palestinians have been killed in retaliatory israeli air on saturday. A similar number of people in israel are now thought to have been killed in the multiple assaults by hamas at the weekend. The Israeli Military figure says that figure includes at least 220 soldiers and as you will be aware those figures are changing all the time. Our correspondence nick beake reports now from tel aviv. Israel says hundreds of thousands of its troops are gathering outside gaza and warns theyll soon be moving into the hamas controlled territory as part of its response to the atrocities committed on israeli soil. Alongside this show of military force, a war cabinet has been formed. Translation citizens of israel. This evening we have established a National Emergency government. The people of israel are united and today its government is united. We are fighting a cruel enemy, worse than isis. In washington, President Biden pledged unwavering support for israel. Americans are among the up to 150 hostages feared to have been taken into gaza and among those killed in hamas s assault. This attack was a campaign of pure cruelty. Notjust hate but pure cruelty against the jewish people. And i would argue its the deadliest day forjews since the holocaust. The deadliest day since the holocaust. This is what gaza looked like in the early hours of this morning. Plunged into darkness after its only Power Station shut down. Israel has cut off Electricity Supplies to these densely populated palestinian communities. Many are now in ruins after being bombarded by israeli air strikes over the past five days. The un says Essential Supplies of food, fuel and water must be allowed to reach civilians. Translation we left our homes thinking that we would return in an hour. We left our belongings, money, food and everything we owned. Now there are 50 people in the house without food, drink, water or electricity. I do not know how well provide food for our children. Im searching here under the rubble for the remains of lentils and rice, even a little for my children. Israel says hamass attacks justified this response, that this is an act of self defence. But israel is accused of breaking international law, Killing Hundreds of civilians in an act of revenge. This is the latest footage released by the Israeli Military showing their bombardment of gaza. They say it will continue until hamas is wiped off the face of the earth. As the calls become even more urgent for aid to be allowed in and for civilians to be given a way out. Nick beake, bbc news, tel aviv. The israeli president had strong words for hamas. So we are not retaliating. We are targeting. We are targeting the enemy in order to uproot the capability of the enemy, to carry on with this campaign of destroying israel, trying to destroy it as part of an empire of evil which has its claws all around us, from north from hezbollah, from the south, from hamas and islamichhad. Look around us in the entire region. Look at the havoc that they have created everywhere iran has touched in yemen, in syria, in iraq, in lebanon. This is exactly what i spoke about in the joint Session Of Congress in the middle ofjuly, where i explained that it was always our dream to make peace with our neighbours, but we cannot accept them. We cannot accept terror. The Israeli Air Force as the planes has hit around 200 targets focusing on the gaza city and the southern town of khan younis. Residents have been using their hands to dig through the rubble to search for survivors and bodies. The United Nations says around 137,000 gazans are now sheltering in un schools which it says are at 90 capacity. Bbc verify is continuing to monitor the impact of those israeli air strikes. Several videos released by the Israel Defense forces have shown them. One was on the Islamic University of gaza targeted between the tenth and 11th of october. This is a Satellite Image of what the university looked like before the strike. Bbc verify match the buildings distinctive shapes. To know that this image was taken after the strike. Israel says hamas was using the university as a Training Camp for weapons, using the university as a Training Campforweapons, Development Using the university as a Training Camp for weapons, development and military intelligence. That as a claim we havent been able to independently confirm. These images show the elgamel area, again before the strikes, and if we show you this, a Satellite Image of the same neighbourhood, which came through yesterday, and again has been located by our colleagues at the bbc verify. You can clearly see the damage there from that picture. Earlier i spoke to our correspondent in gaza Rushdi Abualouf and he told me about the continuing bombardment by israeli forces. 0vernight there was more air strikes and this morning the Health Minute industry said about 50 people were killed. One of the significant targets were in a refugee camp in gaza, located near the beach, and they said israeli air strike destroyed two houses and many civilians were killed. Some videos and pictures on social media showing kids being dragged from under the rubble. I was passed by the hospital this morning, a queue of long ambulances are waiting to deliver the casualties to the Emergency Room where hospitals are overwhelmed by the number of people injured, more than 6500 people are injured since saturday, hospital are appealing for people to donate blood, they said we are running out of essential medical equipment, and they said we are running out of fuel. Israel cut the electricity, on saturday, and the only Power Station that was providing a bit of power for the Essential Services has been stopped yesterday, due to the fuel shortages, and caused severe disruption to the water network, to gaza, so most of the houses, they dont have water in their houses, i was passing by a street where hundreds were gathered round a tank, un water tank and people were queueing to fill their bottles. Talking to these people, what the most they are worried is the news of israeli bringing tanks near the borderfor a possible ground operation. People lived this experience back in 2014 when hamas and israel were Fighting Street To street, and house to house, and several locations across near the border and thousands of people were killed, hundreds of houses were destroyed so the people, they knew what is the mean of having israeli tanks in densely populated neighbourhoods, and what the fight could be. We have been hearing there are no options for people, essentially, to go to safety. We have been hearing of hospitals, people in their thousands turning up at hospitals hoping to be safe there. What is the sense among the people you are talking to about what they can do and where they can go . Yeah, i have been to the hospital, yesterday, to meet a doctor there, but i was surprised by a number of people displaced and taking the hospital as a shelter. The un said about 300,000 people are already in the un schools and they said this is over the capacity and they are unable to accommodate any more people, so people have no place to go, they decide to go to the hospital. They are everywhere in the hospital, in every corner you find a family in the ground, sitting, sleeping in the ground, they believe the hospital is safe. When you ask anyone, where are you going . They say we have no place to go in gaza, there is no shelter, the only place to go is the un institutions and the un schools, and they are overwhelmed. They have more than the capacity of these places, we are not talking about shelters, we are talking about schools that are turned into temporary shelters for people, and, since, the crossing is closed, even the un couldnt bring food, water and some essential help to those who are taking shelters in the un schools, so the situation is deteriorating in a very fast way and people are expecting more to come. If you have been watching over the last couple of hours the us Secretary Of State Antony Blinken travelled to israel, arrived this morning. He has been meeting with the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. They are due to be giving a Press Conference shortly but this is the moment that they met in tel aviv. They have been having discussions of camera for the last couple of hours. But Antony Blinken was heard saying something along the lines of, we are here, we are not going anywhere under his breath and that was picked up by various news agencies. As we say we are expecting the two of them to give a Press Conference and we will cross their as soon as thatis and we will cross their as soon as that is starting. Earlier i spoke to our chief International Correspondent lyse doucet, whos on the outskirts of ashkelon in southern israel, close to gaza. This is how she described the situation there. Yes. We were allowed to go closer to the closed Military Zone yesterday, about three and a half miles from gaza and about a mile from where we are today. But there were so many rockets being fired by hamas militants into that area as well. Israels iron dome was in action for hours to try to intercept them. Israels much vaunted air defense system. Weve had to push back. But even from here, we can see theres a constant stream. This road is quiet now, but a constant stream of huge lorries, white, unmarked, heading to the front, no doubt taking provisions, supplies to the soldiers that, as weve been reporting, have been massing along the border. That armour is getting into place. This is a highly complex and very risky operation, and they have been working on it since those horrific first hours of saturday morning when israel was caught off guard by hamass, to use the word, unprecedented assault. Now, israel knows it has got to show, its got to do the business of keeping its own citizens safe. We were talking about the build up of troops close to the boundary between israel and gaza. Lets go there live. You can see exactly what they are talking about. Our correspondence have been talking 0ur correspondence have been talking about unprecedented numbers of troops. Not only standard troops, the israeli army, but also some 300,000 or so reservists have also been called up to that. Whether we will hear any more details about what the israeli plan is when that planned Press Conference happens between the us Secretary Of State Antony Blinken and the Prime Minister, we dont know, we are waiting to find out and what i have got to say but as you can sit from those pictures, there is certainly an extensive build up of troops along the boundary between gaza and israel. Around the world and across the uk this is bbc news. Lets take a look at some other stories. The uk economy grew by 0. 2 in august according to the latest figures. The office for National Statistics says there was strong growth in services which was partially offset by falls in manufacturing and construction. In contrast, some sectors fared poorly such as arts, entertainment and recreation. The waiting list for planned nhs england treatment has risen again to a new record high. More than 7. 7 Million People were waiting to start routine treatment at the end of august. Its highest number since records began. Routine treatment ranges from Hip Replacements to surgery to remove cancerous tumours. A crane will remove the trunk of the world Famous Sycamore Gap tree from Hadrians Wall today, two weeks after it was chopped down by vandals. The National Trust is asking people to stay away because of the complexity of the task. The trunk will be kept at a safe location until a decision is made about its future. Youre live with bbc news. As we have been reporting americas top diplomat Antony Blinken has arrived in israel to discuss measures to bolster its security. We are expecting to hear from measures to bolster its security. We are expecting to hearfrom him shortly but in an address to the Jewish Community at the white house President Biden described saturdays assault as an act of sheer evil and the deadliest day forjews since the holocaust. The white house is 22 americans are known to have been killed with 17 unaccounted for. Mr biden also said he told Benjamin Netanyahu that israel must abide by the rules of war in combating hamas. I have known bebe for over 40 years. We have a very frank relationship, i know him well. The one thing i did say, it is really important that israel, all the anger and frustration, that exists, is by the rules of the world. And there are rules of the world. And there are rules of the world. And there are rules of war. Rules of the world. And there are rules of war rules of the world. And there are rules of war. Our correspondent in washington rules of war. Our correspondent in washington says rules of war. Our correspondent in washington says mr rules of war. Our correspondent in washington says mr blank rules of war. Our correspondent in washington says mr blank and rules of war. Our correspondent in j washington says mr blank and has rules of war. Our correspondent in l washington says mr blank and has a number of priorities press visit to israel. Hell deliver that message that the us has israels back but he is also expected to talk about the hostage situation. There are about 150 hostages, some of them we understand are americans and, even though the Us Government is saying that it is a handful of people, the us is understandably concerned and trying to get those hostages released. And among the members of this delegation to israel are hostage experts. But i think also, importantly, as you mentioned, President Biden spoke earlier to theJewish Community leaders and expressed his support for israel but also made some very distinct statements. He said, for example, that he had urged Benjamin Netenyahu that he had to on wednesday to follow the rules of law after the israeli Prime Minister vowed to destroy hamas. And so what we are seeing is that this message of constant support is still there but it has been toned really for the first time with the message urging some restraint. And obviously there are a lot of concerns by members of the International Community, the United Nations has pointed it out as well as the european union, they are afraid about what this planned Ground Attack will mean for the palestinians that are trapped inside gaza. 0n the Israel Lebanon Border Tensions remain high after israeli shelling struck southern lebanese towns stopped israel says it has acted in response to Rocket Attacks by iran backed hezbollah. The above apartments are taking place at arounds Foreign Minister is travelling to lebanon to discuss the conflict. Earlier i spoke to our middle east correspondent in beirut. It has been a worrying few days in the past few days with rockets fired on both sides. Certainly as we hear it started from lebanon and the israelis responded. Three met members of his brother were killed and Israeli Soldiers as well. Hezbollah. Apparently hezbollah has no vested interest in having this spill over into lebanon. We have a remind our audience that in 2008 six because of similar situations, there was a month long war in lebanon by the israelis because of fires, rockets fired from lebanon into israel. That left the country crippled. This is a country that is already struggling for years of economic crisis, financial crisis, in poverty. The last thing Lebanon Needs at the moment is a war with israel. With the sole decision taken by hezbollah. Everyone is speculating hezbollah will not take this action but as the movement considers itself a resistance movement, they want to show solidarity with the palestinians and thatis solidarity with the palestinians and that is what we saw over the past few days with some rockets fired from here. But it is hard to believe orsee from here. But it is hard to believe or see that this is going to escalate any further, given the situation in lebanon, giving many warnings that came from the International Community including the us. ~. , International Community including the us. ~. ,~ International Community including the us. , the us. What we make of the meeting of iran doesnt the us. What we make of the meeting of iran doesnt foreign the us. What we make of the meeting of iran doesnt Foreign Minister of iran doesnt Foreign Minister travelling to lebanon to discuss, are we expected to hear anything about little discussions, what will take place, what is your assessment of that . Take place, what is your Assessment Ofthat . A, take place, what is your assessment of that . 1, ,. , take place, what is your Assessment Ofthat . ,. , of that . Basically the main player, the strongest of that . Basically the main player, the strongest player of that . Basically the main player, the strongest player in of that . Basically the main player, the strongest player in lebanon i of that . Basically the main player, the strongest player in lebanon is| the strongest player in lebanon is hezbollah. Not the lebanese government or the lebanese army, it is the militant group that is backed by iran. It takes its orders from iran. Many are speculating that iran was also backing hamas in this operation so we will have to wait and see the outcome of this visit today, of what is going to happen. But it is really hard to see that at this moment hezbollah would go into further escalation and have this war spilling over into lebanon. We further escalation and have this war spilling over into lebanon. Spilling over into lebanon. We are still waiting spilling over into lebanon. We are still waiting for spilling over into lebanon. We are still waiting for this spilling over into lebanon. We are still waiting for this press still waiting for this Press Conference, waiting to hearfrom still waiting for this Press Conference, waiting to hear from the us Secretary Of State Antony Blinken who arrived in israel this morning, has been in meetings with israeli politicians including the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. As soon as a Press Conference starts we will bring it to you. But we do that we will see those pictures, you can see exactly what is going on. I want to take your underworld a little bit because there has been reaction to what is happening in israel and gaza around the world. There have been demonstrations and there have been protests both in support of the israelis and the palestinians. Here in the uk, these are images from a vigil held in manchester last night. People turned out to show solidarity with those who are suffering in israel. There were similiar gatherings elsewhere in the uk including leeds and glasgow. To belgium next where a rally in support of israel took place near the European Parliament building in brussels. Many of the people who attended held signs saying kidnapping. About 500 people gathered outside the United Nations building in geneva in switzerland to show their support for israel. Many holding large israeli flags. To austria next and a pro israel demonstration was held in vienna. The rally took place in front of the historic Hofburg Palace and was attended by high ranking Government Officials and prominent public figures. Staying in vienna, Hundreds Of Pro Palestinian Demonstrators gathered in defiance of a ban. The police had refused to grant a permit for the rally but chose not to disperse the protesters. In south africa, members of a Palestinian Support Group held a protest outside the United States Consulate Injohannesburg to show support for palestinians in gaza. Demonstrators rallied in toronto in canada in support of palestinians. Although Prime Ministerjustin trudeau posted condemning demonstrations he said were taking place in support of hamas. Finally hundreds ofjordanians took to the streets of amman waving palestinian flags in a show of support of gaza. A large percentage ofjordans population is made up of palestinians. Stay with us here on bbc news. Hello again. As we go through the next couple of days, the weather is changing. For many of us it will turn that bit colder than it has been. We have got the Weather Front draped across england and wales today, producing cloud, and also some patchy light rain and drizzle. A lot of this will ease through the day. To the north, a lot of dry weather, a fair bit of sunshine, but blustery showers coming in across the north and west, with the winds strengthening here later, and later too, we will see some heavier rain coming into the south west. These are our temperatures, 10 17 north to south. Potentially 20 in the channel islands. Through the rest of the afternoon and into the evening and overnight we have this heavy rain crossing england and wales, with strengthening winds. At the same time, a weak Weather Front crossing scotland and Northern Ireland will introduce more cloud and patchy rain, so not as cold a start to the day as this morning. Still mild in the south. As we head through the day tomorrow, what you will find is this Weather Front is pushing further north. This one is heading further south and eventually the two will meet. And we are looking at a pretty wet day. We will see some large Rainfall Totals in a short amount of time. Showers clearing the far south east in the morning and still a windy day, particularly in the north, the winds easing through the day, as we push further south. Still temporarily mild in the far south, but that will change, because as this Weather Front clears the rain away, it opens the door for all of us to a northerly or a north westerly wind, and that is represented by the blues in the chart, indicating the drop in temperature. So we will see temperatures more likely what we would expect in autumn, but for some they will be below average for this time of year. So in summary this weekend, we are looking at chilly days and cold nights, with some frost. Sunny spells, a few showers we will even see some snow on the tops of the hills and mountains in scotland. So on saturday itself, very windy across the north, with showers blowing in on that north westerly wind. For most it will be dry, with a fair bit of sunshine, but temperatures are down eight to 13 degrees being the maximum north to south. And then as we head on into sunday, there will be fewer showers, but still a bit more cloud in the north west, and once again, with lighter winds, it is still going to feel cool. The uk economy returns to growth in august with the Services Sector the main contributor. But as a recession is still on the cards . Hello and welcome to World Business report with me, marc ashdown. Lets start here in the uk, and the economy grew by 0. 2 in august, largely driven by the Services Sector which includes education. Schools bounced back after Strike Action by teachers, and the economy overall did the same, expanding after a sharp fall injuly. The office for National Statistics said heavy rain and strikes weighed heavily on the early part of the summer, so this is a welcome reversal. However, there are plenty of economists still predicting a strong possibility of a recession
