So, weve bought the food, hopefully, but how much is left on shop shelves . About 260,000 tonnes end up in the bin every year. Ill be looking at how we can reduce that. And in sport, tottenham say their initial findings into the alleged racist abuse of Antonio Rudiger are inconclusive, but a chelsea fan has been arrested for allegedly abusing son heung min. Good morning. It is Christmas Eve and we are going to bejoined by the singers all morning. We have rain that were clear. Heavy thundery showers and windy across the south with some sunshine in the forecast. I will tell you where in about 15 minutes. A very good morning to you. Its tuesday, december the 24th. Our top story the queen will use her Christmas Day message to say that 2019 has been quite bumpy. It comes after a year of intense political debate over brexit, as well as a number of personal events affecting the royal family. Heres our royal correspondent nicholas witchell. It has been a year which at times may have felt quite bumpy, so the queen will say in her christmas broadcast recorded a few days ago at windsor castle. She doesnt clarify what it is at has been bumpy, which will inevitably invite speculation. These are her words talking about reconciliation, she says. The path of course is not always smooth and may at times this year have felt quite bumpy. Small steps can make a world of difference. World of quite bumpy. Small steps can make a world of difference. The obvious conclusion is that this is a coded message from britain public head of state urging the country to move on from the divisions of the brexit debate. She also says that small steps debate. She also says that small ste ps ca n debate. She also says that small steps can overcome long held differences and deep seated division. But the reference to a bumpy year might also be taken to refer to events within her own family after a year which began with the duke of edinburghs road accidentjust outside the sandringham estate which continued with the duke of duke and duchess of sussex planning about the problems that they see them of being in the public eye, and which culminated most recently with the controversy surrounding Prince Andrew, which forced him to step back from public duties. Andrew, which forced him to step back from public dutiesli andrew, which forced him to step back from public duties. I have no recollection of ever meeting this lady. None whatsoever. As the queen settled down for the royal familys christmas at sandringham, she will be hoping she will at least be reunited with her husband. The duke of edinburgh has spent a fourth night in hospital in london being treated for a pre existing condition. His family will be hoping he is well enough today to join them at sandringham. The duke of edinburgh has spent a fourth night in hospital, after being admitted as a precaution on the advice of his doctor. 0ur correspondent, andy moore, is outside the hospital in london for us now. Will the duke be home in time for christmas, andy . That is the big question. I am afraid we dont know the answer. We have had no update from his dates, doctors, no update at all since he was admitted to hospital on friday. Had a for you brief snippets from Prince Charles yesterday, he was visiting fish lake flood victims. He said when you get to that age, things dont work so well. He said also that the duke was been well look after. That is all we know at the moment. I think the eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed that on the desk there while the queen was giving her speech was a portrait photo of the duke. That address was recorded a few days ago before the duke came into hospital but i suppose you could say that this hospital admission is another unforeseen bump along the way in a very bumpy year for the queen. Unforeseen bump along the way in a very bumpy year for the queenli very bumpy year for the queen. know you will keep us up to date if anything changes. Thank you. The duke and duchess of sussex have revealed their festive greeting via the Queens Commonwealth trust twitter account. Captured in black and white, the image shows their 7 month old son, archie, gazing into the camera. The card was not officially released. Instead, it was emailed to friends and staff and hard copies were sent to family. Harry and meghan are currently spending a 6 week break in canada. Borisjohnson and Jeremy Corbyn have thanked nhs staff and other Public Servants who work through the holidays in their christmas messages. The Prime Minister also said the uk stood in solidarity with christians around the world who faced persecution for their beliefs. Mr corbyn said it had been a difficult year for many, but christmas was a chance to reflect on hopes for a better world. Around 2,000 volunteer firefighters will spend their Christmas Day tackling australias bushfires as the crisis continues. The countrys Prime Minister has pledged more support amid criticism from some unpaid workers. Nine people have died after more than 84 fires devastated homes and businesses. 0ur news correspondent phil mercer is in bargo in New South Wales. You have been keeping a close eye on what has been happening with these blazes, and firefighters and emergency workers will be working over the festive period. We are hearing that since the start of july, 1000 homes here in New South Wales have been destroyed by this fire emergency, and here near bargo, you can see one of these houses that was clearly no match for a ferocious fire that tore through in recent days. Now, a neighbourwas fire that tore through in recent days. Now, a neighbour was telling us days. Now, a neighbour was telling us that the flames came from this direction and they roared over the top of the trees. But at the time, this house was still standing. It came to grief because of what is called here and ember attack. These are millions of red hot pieces of debris and ash that rained down on this property. It was a wooden house and it has been obliterated, like many, and it has been obliterated, like any and it has been obliterated, like many, many across notjust New South Wales, but across the country as well. About 100 fires continue to burnin well. About 100 fires continue to burn in New South Wales, cooler conditions are being helping the firefighting effort, but more dangerous days will lie ahead. Were not sure when conditions will get worse, but they will get worse and firefighters to be prepared for this worsening crisis. We are sending all oui worsening crisis. We are sending all our best wishes for those who are tackling those blazes. Thank you very much. Police in new zealand say they have called off the search for the bodies of two people still missing since the white island volcano eruption earlier on this month. The bodies of Hayden Bryan Marshall Inman and 17 year old Winona Jane Langford are thought to be in the water off the island. Winonas parents were also among the 19 People Killed by the eruption. Police said their decision follows extensive shoreline and substantial aerial searches. Doctors are warning of the dangers posed by small button batteries that can be found in toys, Christmas Lights and musical cards. If swallowed, the batteries can burn through a childs throat in a short period of time. The Child Accident trust says two children a year die in the uk from swallowing the batteries. 0ur Health Correspondent Dominic Hughes has more. Claire still remembers vividly the events of 2015. At the age of two, her daughter sophie came dangerously close to death after swallowing a button battery. It badly damaged her throat and burned a hole in her long, leaving sophie in intensive ca re long, leaving sophie in intensive care and needing multiple operations. If you swallow one and they leave it, it can be fatal. And if it wasnt for my Quick Response and getting up there, within two hours it had already done damage, it is not worth thinking about, really. They are really dangerous and things escalate so quickly. This speed up footage shows how fast a button battery ca n footage shows how fast a button battery can cause damage. Slices of ham represent the delicate tissues of the throat, saliva reacts with the battery to release caustic chemicals. Within two hours, the flesh is already scorched. Senior doctors say it is important that batteries in toys, lights, clothing and cards are kept safe. Because children mistake these things as suites, keep them out of reach where they cant get to them. If they come in compartments in toys, christmas cards, make sure they are in there, locked away if possible. Better to prevent than have to go to an a e department, but if you do have to 90, department, but if you do have to go, ourgreat nhs department, but if you do have to go, our great nhs staff will be there to remove the battery. Sophie has made a good recovery and her mum knows it was a close call. And not an experience anyone else should go through. It is a timeless timely warning, isnt it . Earlier this year, youll remember the famous photo of a dress which went viral online with people saying they saw a variety of different colours. Well, a new meme has now got people talking. This video shows a man on a swing in a snowy scene. The big question this time which way is he swinging . Is he facing towards the camera or towards the building behind him . He is facing us despite only being posted a couple of days ago, its already had more than 10 million online views. For me, he is facing us. For me, he is facing us. For me, he is facing us. For me, both ways. It switches. Did you get on the eggnog last night . Actually, no. Not yet iam you get on the eggnog last night . Actually, no. Not yet i am saving it for later. Which way do you think it for later. Which way do you think it is . I thought it was going to be as he walking up . I think he is swinging towards the building. I think he is swinging towards the camera. Really . jane is here. You are seeing a different angle. What do you say . I think he is pointing towards the building. It is very obvious. Isnt that interesting i think he is swinging towards the camera, absolutely. You never know. Get in touch. We are here and we would love to chat. We would, absolutely. I was at this match, i was at the chelsea match. It has been a very long time since i went to a match. What i found really interesting is three times this announcement came saying racism is not to be tolerated. I turned to the people i was with who had been to the matches before, and said, is this normal . It is really unusual. I must say, in the crowd, havent heard anything horrible, but it was a that and the incident was happening. It was the first time it had happened happened in the premier league at all, so does unprecedented. The story is still rumbling on, obviously, because totte n ha m rumbling on, obviously, because tottenham has said they have been examining cctv footage to find the perpetrators and the uk government have well said it will not rule out taking further steps if authorities england failed to deal with racism in football. It follows Sundays Premier League match between tottenham and chelsea. A chelsea fans been arrested for allegedly abusing son heung min during that game. Play was stopped during chelseas win on sunday after Antonio Rudiger said he heard monkey noises. Tottenham say theyve studied hours of cctv footage with lip readers to find the alleged perpetrators, but their findings were inconclusive. New arsenal manager mikel arteta has confirmed that Freddie Ljungberg will remain as part of the clubs backroom staff. Ljungberg was in caretaker charge before artetas arrival, but only won once in six matches. Its just two days until englands first test against south africa and jofra archer, stuart broad and jack leach have all taken part in a net session. Captainjoe root says hell trust the players to decide if theyre fit to feature. And a statue of the former sweden and Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been vandalised yet again in his hometown. This time, malmo fans have sawn off his nose. Previously, they tried to soar through one of the legs and they put a toilet seat around the neck. The statue went up in october but last month, ibrahimovic invested in rival swedish team hammarby, and malmo fans have taken out their anger on the statue. It is only a game. Get over it. People hold a grudge when it comes to rivals. That is such a horrible thing. Ifind the to rivals. That is such a horrible thing. I find the toilet seat quite funny because that is a challenge in itself. But soaring off the nose is not nice. Not nice at all. Sawing. Lets take a look at todays papers. The front pages look ahead to the queens christmas message. The times quotes her majesty as saying it has been a bumpy time and say shes urging britain to move forward from deep seated divisions. The daily express leads on the queens message too, but also mentions the Prime Minister who is praising nhs staff this christmas. Other papers are reporting on the Court Case Involving tv presenter Caroline Flack who yesterday denied assaulting her boyfriend. The daily mail quotes the prosecutions version of his 999 call, during which the court heard he said, shes tried to kill me. The metro online features the chief executive of boeing who has been fired amid the growing crisis over the firms 737 max jet. Pretty much all of the papers are as you can imagine, about the racism. A lot of managers saying that fans have to step up now and if you hear any racism in the stands, you have to call it out and contact the steward. That is pretty much on all of the back pages. This is quite interesting. It is christmas tomorrow. Is it . What you dont realise is that a lot of footballers and sportspeople are playing on boxing day so their christmas dinner is probably going to be pasta. They might even have to go for a run, they will be training on Christmas Day. I heard, it might not be true, but i heard the spurs will be training at six oclock on Christmas Day. I am not surprised. A lot of them do. Unless. Unless you manage to get yourself suspended on purpose. Which some. Know that doesnt take you out of training, surely. It means you dont necessarily have to. Train hard. There you go. Call me cynical, but in the times, obviously no names are named, but my teammate elbowed an opponent to get christmas. That is what someone said, someone purposefully elbowed someone in the face and that was to make sure they got christmas. Is that what we did wrong . Didnt elbow anybody in the face. 0bviously charlie and dan elbowed somebody in the face and thatis elbowed somebody in the face and that is why we are sitting here. They have been suspended. You are delighted about being here tomorrow though arent you . you are delighted about being here tomorrow though arent you . I do love the holiday. And i love the holy on your tie. I purchased it months ago. I have an interesting story on the front page of the financial times. Story on the front page of the financialtimes. Folding story on the front page of the financial times. Folding t shirts has become a real problem for robots. You might be familiar with this. As Clothing Companies try to be more and more productive, one thing they want to do is get a robot to fold the t shirt and uniqlo reckons it has cracked it. The final frontier, folding a t shirt and putting it in a box. Why in a box . So you can then sell it. Why do you sell it in a box . Because it is christmas. How else . Just folded and put it on the shelf i have never seen a t shirt in a box. Put it on the shelf i have never seen a tshirt in a box. But if you are delivering many, what you want to do . Throw them in the back of a lauric . You need them folded. So that might be why. I rolled my t shirts, actually. That might be why. I rolled my tshirts, actually. I find that might be why. I rolled my tshirts, actually. Ifind that that might be why. I rolled my tshirts, actually. I find that most efficient. But there you go, the robots have finally made it and everything is solved. robots have finally made it and everything is solved. I have an uber trip that has gone wrong. You think it will cost, who knows, a a0 mile cab ride home. She was expecting £200 on thisjourney cab ride home. She was expecting £200 on this journey from Central London to kent but what happened and you can see london to kent but what happened and you can see this map here, the driver went the wrong way around the m25 so it turned over £500. Didnt she wake up . She slept through it and slept through him stopping to get petrol. That is bad, isnt it you should always know where you are going, even in a cab. And a quick one. Has everyone sent their christmas cards . I hope so. Yesterday i was told i left it too late. I have a few hand deliveries. I send you my love. My friends know me. This woman has centred 1900 card and hand delivered 1900, to strangers. An attempt to introduce loneliness. I want to give her a shout out. What a kind woman. She was worried about people spending the Festive Season alone so she decided to help. And are you still delivering cards today . Probably even on Christmas Day. Does the final few local cards that need sending. I dont talk to anybody though. Ijust sending. I dont talk to anybody though. I just pop sending. I dont talk to anybody though. Ijust pop them in the letterbox and run away. Thank you very much. Lets head to carol now. Carol is at gloucester cathedral with a look at this mornings weather. We have had some beautiful singing from there as well. Good morning. Good morning everyone. And we will have more singing at quarter to seven. They will be singing 0 come, 0 come emmanuel. Something to look forward to. Gloucester cathedral is over 900 years old. And you we are in the cloisters at the moment. Dutiful. If you are a fan of harry potter you may recognise them from a few of the films. We have also been in sherlock, wolf hall and also doctor who. I can tell you it is chilly if you are standing in here this morning. And for some it is chilly outside because last night once again the temperatures in the highlands felt to 6. 3. 0utside generally a mild start to the day for the time of year. The forecast for today is one of some sunshine but a lot of showers and some showers in the south will be heavy and thunder the wind is gonna pick up in areas as well. Happening overnight a weather front but has moved from the south west, taking rain with it, putting north eastward across Northern Ireland in through the midlands, Northern England and the midlands, Northern England and the south east and it continues to clear off into the north sea leaving us clear off into the north sea leaving us with dry conditions but dont forget, heavy showers. So the rain this morning will eventually clear away into the north sea and we already have some showers numbing and across the south west of south wales and they will continue through the day. Those are heavy and thundery. Potentially some hail being blown on gusty wind from the west towards the east. The Northern Ireland and scotland you will see a few showers but some are dry and bright in between. Averages 5 seven in the north, 6 12 in the south. Through the evening and overnight once again we are looking at many of the showers fading, hanging on in the showers fading, hanging on in the north and the west. We also have a cold night in frost prospect with frost and fog forming in the south west of england and south wales and that fog will be slowed clear during the course of Christmas Day. A cool frosty start on Christmas Day itself with that fog around but we also have a transient ridge of High Pressure meaning things will be settled and dry and sunny foremost. We may see some snow in the Scottish Highlands first thing that there will be more car coming from the west turning into sunshine and a cloudy afternoon if you are in Northern Ireland then as we head into boxing day, quite a difference because we have weather fronts coming in from the south west, moving north eastward with heavy rain and transient snow on the hills. Cross legged district, across the pennines, southern upland in the highlands. Behind them we will separate entry with some showers but then later more rain comes in and, it will be particularly windy. As especially so in the north and the west. And you should be reminded if you are travelling on Christmas Evening, the evening of Christmas Day, we are looking at some fog across parts of scotla nd looking at some fog across parts of scotland and east in england and some of that could be dense. So do watch out for that. As i mentioned we will bejoined watch out for that. As i mentioned we will be joined by the choir once again at quarter to seven and that is something that is very much worth staying tuned for. As, of course, is the rest of the programme. Are you trying staying tuned for. As, of course, is the rest of the programme. Are you trying to staying tuned for. As, of course, is the rest of the programme. Are you trying to tell staying tuned for. As, of course, is the rest of the programme. Are you trying to tell us staying tuned for. As, of course, is the rest of the programme. Are you trying to tell us you staying tuned for. As, of course, is the rest of the programme. Are you trying to tell us you are staying tuned for. As, of course, is the rest of the programme. Are you trying to tell us you are the highlight . Are you the highlight of the programme . Obviously carol, you are talking about the fog on Christmas Day evening. It is kind of nice though for those areas. It is an eerie dickens like scrooge like atmosphere. My dont know so much about that. This we are going to be the opposite of scrooge right now. Do you like embarrassing moments . I love them. I revel in them. Take a look at this embarrasing moment from spanish tv yesterday. The reporter is clutching a winning Lottery Ticket and has just told her colleagues live on air that shes not coming into work tomorrow. She is excited the trouble is, she needs to share her a million euro jackpot with hundreds of other winners. It means she actually only won around £a,000. She apologise for the way she reacted. She is going to have to go back to work. If one of us one and said we are not in tomorrow, would you let us back in . No. That was a scary no. We have learned. We have learned. I would not tell anybody. I would just come in in and enjoy it. What would you do . just come in in and enjoy it. What would you do . I would be off. There would be a hole in the wall andi there would be a hole in the wall and i would be gone. there would be a hole in the wall and i would be gone. I would definitely come back. The thing is, the reporter probably said, and another thing. The reporter probably said, and another thing. And that is what went really wrong for her. We are talking about horrible racism in sport. I was at this match on the weekend. There were announcements and you are saying this is something that has never happened before. And you are saying this is something that has never happened beforem has never happened in the premier league. When england were playing bulgaria in october, there was some abuse towards the english black players. It has happened at an International Level but not at the premier league before. It is the first step of the protocol. If it comes to fifa, for the racism protocol. What has happened in the uk government has said it will not rule out taking further steps of foot all authorities in england failed to deal with racism football. It follows Sundays Premier League match between tottenham and chelsea. A chelsea fans been arrested for allegedly abusing son heung min during that game. And, yes, football needs help. Well, the Sheffield United manager, chris wilder, agreed with mourinho and said fans shouldnt hold back in calling out racism when they see it in the stands. I have always thought it was always society attached to football teams and grounds. If you are sitting next to somebody who is doing it, just out them, other people next to you. Be brave and police your own foot ball be brave and police your own football ground. The new arsenal manager, mikel arteta, has confirmed that Freddie Ljungberg will remain as part of the clubs backroom staff. And finally, diving in football has been an ongoing issue for some years now, but for two teams in tanzania, they were left with no choice. Players were forced to drop to the ground when a swarm of bees invaded the pitch. It led to the match being stopped briefly for a few moments as players and fans tried to find cover look at that tried to get them out of their hair. How big is the swarm . You cannot actually see them themselves but everybody was trying to get away. Even the linesman. Caught on camera. Smiling i would have just run around. You antagonise them, dont you. I am loving our christmas theme on the sofa here. You have the green, very festive. We have the sparkles but we have been outdone completely. Look at that time. I wouldnt go that far. No, take it. Ifelt like i had to make some kind of effort. Have you got any last Minute Christmas Shopping to do . For the first time in my life, no Christmas Eve shopping to be done. I have a few parsnips to pick up. The people watching dont like you at this point in time. I know, but they will. Good morning, everybody. Its a really difficult balancing act for the shops, as i saw in birmingham yesterday. They have to make sure they have enough stuff on the shelves so the place doesnt look empty, but not so much that theyre left with huge amounts they cant sell. It isa it is a problem all year round. About 260,000 tonnes of food from supermarket shelves goes to waste every year. Only about 2 of food thats wasted in the uk is down to the retailers. But as they try to do more, many now take part in schemes like working with this foodbank in manchester. What we do is with receive a text message from the store, we then come to collect the food, take it to the centre, and from that point, we serve centre, and from that point, we serve it. It is a process of looking at it and deciding what we can actually make. You have to utilise what we have got, but we usually produce nice food. Basically, i think it is for people who are a bit socially isolated, we are told if they didnt come to us, they wouldnt actually go out. This is all we have got is what some people tell us. We have nothing apart from this. Theres a Technology Platform called neighbourly that links some of the biggest supermarkets with charities like that one. Steve butterworth is chief executive and he joins us from our bristol newsroom now. Good morning. Have you noticed, you work a lot redistributing food from supermarkets to food banks as an example. Have you noticed an increase in the amount food waste or a decrease over the last year . There has been a decrease i think to the extent that obviously there is always a level of surplus that is available, but looking at the way that the retailers have chosen to tackle the challenge of what to do with it, it is very much an operational problem, this is not just about a checkbox exercise and doing the right thing being seen to doing the right thing being seen to do the right thing. Now it is very much about how on a daily basis, not just at christmas time but year round you just at christmas time but year round you can just at christmas time but year round you can look at making sure that food surplus goes to a good cause where it can be eaten by people that need it. Have you seen supermarkets reduce that surplus and actually have less food left over at the end of the day . Or have you seen that increase and therefore you have got more food have to distribute for . We have seen the retailers taking great steps to try to sell as much as possible, to reduce the amount of surplus. We probably havent seen much of a change either way. It is more the efficiency with which they are getting rid of it. Way. It is more the efficiency with which they are getting rid of itm terms of the other end of the process and the number of food banks requiring this food from supermarkets, have you seen that increase over the last year . Sadly, yes. There has been a definite increase in the demand. Organisations like the independent food aid network, schools, community projects, the need for surplus has grown and the number of causes available, especially at a local level, have increased as well. Is there a bit of a danger when you have a platform like yourselves that enables businesses to link up with charities a little bit easier, that they see that as an easy way to improve their image and dont maybe get involved with the crux of the problem that the charity they are dealing with is trying to resolve . The subject of food waste has always been there and to the extent that doing the right thing with it now, yes, of course, it is socially more a cce pta ble yes, of course, it is socially more acceptable if it has been given to a charity, but i think from a point of view that the modern day consumer expects the retailer to do the right thing and employees as well expect the businesses they work for to do the businesses they work for to do the right thing with surplus. I think it has now been built in to the dna of the operating procedures within these organisations. Thank you very much, steve butterworth, the chief executive of neighbourly, which is that platform which links businesses to charities, and you could see yesterday the shelves bulging and there is so much demand the day before Christmas Eve to sell that. Over a year it is not quite such a straightforward thing. You understand the business element of it because if they lose out, they lose customers and you go to Different Stores next year. Equally, you cant have people hungry. Thank you cant have people hungry. Thank you very much. We will see you a little bit later. Look at the festive scene it is lovely, isnt it . We have a lovely carol on the programme with some more carols this morning. She is at gloucester cathedral with a look at the weather. Good morning. Good morning to you as well. It is beautiful here in the cathedral. It is over 900 years old, and did you know way back in 1216 that henry iii was crowned here. Now, he was only nine years old and he is the only king to be crowned outside westminster since the norman invasion. When he was crowned, he used his mother polymerjewels because the Royal Collection had been lost somewhere. A few minutes we will hear once again from the singers. We have voices of angels. If you miss them earlier, we have a treat in store. First of all, lets ta ke if you miss them earlier, we have a treat in store. First of all, lets take a look at the weather. Outside is pretty cold. In some areas it is 7. 5. In is pretty cold. In some areas it is 7. 5. In the highlands and there is a touch of frost around. The forecast is a wet one because we do have some rain and then we are going to see some heavy and thundery showers which will be squally. The wind will pick up and there will also be some hail. A few of us are seeing a little bit of sunshine. First thing this morning, summerfog in the highlands. Weatherfront first thing this morning, summerfog in the highlands. Weather front is moving from the south west heading north eastward would eventually clearing away and that is producing overnight rain and some of us have some rain this morning. We have got some rain this morning. We have got some showers already from the word go across parts of wales and South West England, and through the day some of those will be heavy and thundery with some hail and with the wind picking up, they will brew blow across england. A lot of cloud. For Northern Ireland and scotland we will see a few showers with some sunshine in between. Temperatures ranging from five to seven in the north, six to nine as further south. As we go through the evening and overnight, many of the showers will fade but we will hang onto if few across the north west and hear some of them will be wintry on the tops of them will be wintry on the tops of them will be wintry on the tops of the mountains. It will be a cold night anglia sky so there will be some frost. Fog forming across parts of South West England and south wales and that fog on Christmas Day will be slow to clear. On Christmas Day itself a lot of dry weather, a sparkly and frosty start. A fair bit of sunshine. In the west, cloud will be building, turning sunshine hazy and in the afternoon it will be cloudy across Northern Ireland. It is going to be around average for this time of year. Through the evening, we are looking at some dense fog patches forming across parts of scotland and Eastern England. That in mind if you are travelling. On boxing day the weather front is moved from the south west heading north east. It will bring heavy rain and some snow in the hills. The lake district, the highlands. Behind that we will see some brighter interludes but still some brighter interludes but still some showers and pretty windy and there will be more rain coming our way later on. I promised you the choristers and i must say they are worth listening to. They are going to sing now. Take it away. 0 0 come, 0 come, emmanuel and ransom captive israel that mourns in lonely exile here until the son of god appear rejoice rejoice emmanuel shall come to thee, 0 israel 0 come, thou day spring, rejoice rejoice emmanuel shall come to thee, 0 israel absolutely wonderful. It is quite a lot of pressure and i think all of us were quite anxious and nervous coming into it. I have never been more nervous for a job. Why . Because people love the show. I read the script and the script is fantastic. But you just never know. When i read my character it made me start crying. It made me cry. I was sitting in my car after doing a readthrough on Something Else and i was thinking that ijust want readthrough on Something Else and i was thinking that i just want to read the script. I love it that i am back with my best friend and we are doing these scenes again. I love looking at ruth with her wig on and it feels lovely. How did this all come about . We probably spoke about it over the years since we finished but privately because geographically, james and i live on different continents. Obviously there is still something there because we would exchange a text or e mails about the characters and where they are now, what they are doing now. That is what people hope stars of shows are doing. Yeah, with gavin and stacey, the characters, you do feel like they are really carrying on their lives after we left them on the seafront at barry ten years ago. Whats occurring . Ooh forget that either happened that might even happen. We got together in los angeles. That sounds glamorous. Were you in the guest wind of this house . We just needed two chairs and a table and we did it. We were happy with what we did, we got in touch with the bbc and said we had a prescription for a Christmas Special and games put it on this twitter account and people went to cirque. Three more photos. Lets get it done. You, just dont touch me. Do not have a topic to put on . You are almost as naked as i am. This is doriss house. This is glenda who owns queens house. How many people have come in your house since the showers on . About three and a half. 28, you have letting 28,000 people into the house since we first came in. These were not in the house. We use the sofas and everything that she had because we did not have the budget. You really did not have the budget. You really did just use her house . Did not have the budget. You really didjust use her house . Wejust did not have the budget. You really did just use her house . We just did not have the budget and it felt so authentic. Honestly, this is the first time i have ever been in here when we have not addressed it. And i did not realise quite how many, quite how many things glenda had on the wall, bless her. It is lovely. It means so much to so many people and you cannot get your head around it. Did you go back to the original series to help you get back into being gavin . There is no way i am watching myself ten years ago. Absolutely no way. I am already self conscious enough. Absolutely no way. I am already selfconscious enough. Joe, come forward a little. It is constantly on. Icy it when i flicked the channels. Icy a bit and cannot stop watching. I love that there are a new generation of people watching it with children who were not even born when this started. They are coming to watch us film and it is lovely. think its so good. It gives eve ryo ne think its so good. It gives everyone want they want and there are some new things as well, you know . How has uncle bryn changed . If anything he looks younger. I mean, he has obviously been to a spa in the swiss mountains, colon, and it treated him well. Hello. I love the fa ct treated him well. Hello. I love the fact that you just use a normal street. But things happen. And things just have happened. Street. But things happen. And thingsjust have happened. I cannot say anything more than that. Im terrified of leaking. Is there a potential for yet more . terrified of leaking. Is there a potential for yet more . I did not have an answer to that question. I would have to kill you. And that does not feel very christmassy. We are about to shoot robs last shot, perhaps ever. Not that hes got some terrible illness. Certainly his last of this special and it may be the last time we ever see him. Colin will be back in barry on tomorrows breakfast, with another sneak peek at the Christmas Day special. Who gets behind the scenes access . Well also get to see colins full interview with james cordon, who explained why now was the right time to bring the show back. The time to do it is when you do not need to. The last thing we wanted the show to look like was a sort of emergency broken glass quest to get back on television or for relevance. And so it comes with a huge amount of pressure. It is a strange feeling but we hope people enjoy dipping back into their lives for a moment. The trick is to always make sure you come back when you were still wanted. That is a very good idea. And leave when you are still wanted as well. Yes. Leave them wanting. gavin and stacey is on bbc one on Christmas Day at 8 30pm. And i will be here on Christmas Day as well, hopefully being tidy. I plan my Christmas Day carefully. Will it involve gavin and stacey . It will involve a lot of television. I study the radio times quite carefully. That is the thing that shows our age. There was a time when you would go out and purchase a radio times. And you remember highlighting . I used to do exactly the same thing. I am showing my age. A christmas tradition. It looks like we will see a few showers around through the course of today but it should be turning drier and brighter at times particularly through this morning. A bit later on we could see a few of the showers begin to rattle through. They could potentially be heavy at times and will turn dry as we head towards this evening with a bit of brightness around as well. Temperatures 11 12 celsius so still feeling fairly mild. As we go into tonight it stays largely dry with some cloud around but as we approach the early hours of tomorrow morning, through to Christmas Day morning, it is a lot clearer and with those clear skies, well, temperatures could drop quite a bit down to two or three celsius, perhaps lower in some places. There could be a touch of frost as we go into Christmas Day. That will be the only form of wintriness that we could see through tomorrow. Looks like it will be a lovely day with dry and bright conditions, blue sky and sunny for the morning in the afternoon. I love it and i am back with my best friend and i am back with my best friend and we are doing those scenes again. Iam and we are doing those scenes again. I am with the marvellous molineux family in wigan. We are very excited. We have the last tips coming up. Singing good morning from gloucester cathedral. You are listening to the beautiful choristers who are going to be thinking of us throughout the programme. It is Christmas Eve. Weather is quite unsettled. We are looking at rain and showers and some of us will some showers. Sunshine. I will tell you where in 15 minutes. A very good morning. Its tuesday, december the 2ath. Our top story the queen will use her Christmas Day message to say that 2019 has been quite bumpy. It comes after a year of intense political debate over brexit, as well as a number of personal events affecting the royal family. Heres more from our royal correspondent nicholas witchell. Its been a year which at times may have felt quite bumpy, so the queen will say in her christmas broadcast, recorded a few days ago at windsor castle. She doesnt clarify what it is thats been bumpy, which will inevitably invite speculation. These are her words, talking about reconciliation, she says. The obvious conclusion is that this is a coded message from britains head of state, urging the country to move on from the divisions of the brexit debate. She also says in the broadcast that small steps can overcome long held differences and deep seated division. But the reference to a bumpy year might also be taken to refer to events within her own family after a year which began with the duke of edinburghs road accidentjust outside the sandringham estate, which continued with the duke and duchess of sussex planning about the problems that they see them of being in the public eye, and which culminated most recently with the controversy surrounding Prince Andrew, which forced him to step back from public duties. I have no recollection of ever meeting this lady, none whatsoever. As the queen settles down for the royal familys christmas at sandringham, she will be hoping she will at least be reunited with her husband. The duke of edinburgh has spent a fourth night at the hospital in london being treated for a pre existing condition. His family will be hoping he is well enough today to join them at sandringham. In around 10 minutes, well speak to royal commentator victoria murphy. She will give us her examination of the message the queen has given. The duke and duchess of sussex have revealed their festive greeting via the Queens Commonwealth trust twitter account. Captured in black and white, the image shows their 7 month old son, archie, gazing into the camera. The card was not officially released. Instead, it was emailed to friends and staff and hard copies sent to family. Nine peope have died after more than 8a fires devastated homes and businesses. Our news correspondent phil mercer is in bargo in New South Wales. We can see the damage that has been done. How are they coping there . This house behind me as one of about a thousand across the state of New South Wales that have been destroyed by the bushfire since earlyjuly. Pa rt by the bushfire since earlyjuly. Part of this property is still smouldering, if you look up and down the street here there is an avenue of trees. Most of these trees have been charred and look left scorched. We spoke to a neighbour next door who owns a stable. Some of his buildings were damaged and he said the flames tore from this bit of bushland over the trees and this property here came under what is described as an ember attack. These are red hot bit of ash and debris that rain down on this mostly wooden property and all that is left as you can see is the charred remains of the building, and also the mangled wreckage of the metal roof and metal garage doors. You mentioned the Prime Minister, Scott Morrison. He has been under sustained criticism for being away for part of this crisis. He was in hawaii on holiday. He has been talking to firefighters on the front line and he is also saying that firefighters with governmentjobs will be offered four weeks pay to try to help with the emergency effort. This is a fire crisis that notjust affect New South Wales. There have been dangerous days in recent times in queensland, Western Australia and also some very dangerous situations in the states of victoria and south australia. Thank you very much. In the next few minutes we will speak to one of those volunteer firefighters as well. Police in new zealand say they have called off the search for the bodies of two people still missing since the white island volcano eruption earlier this month. The bodies of Hayden Bryan Marshall Inman and 17 year old Winona Jane Langford are thought to be in the water off the island. Winonas parents were also among the 19 People Killed by the eruption. Police said their decision follows extensive shoreline and substantial aerial searches. Nhs england has advised parents to make sure that small, button batteries, which can be found in toys, festive lights, and musical christmas cards, are kept away from children. The Child Accident trust says two children die in the uk from swallowing the batteries, which can burn through a youngsters throat in a very short period of time. It is 7 07. We always like a fun story. We like messing with people but heads. Peoples heads. Earlier this year, youll remember the famous photo of a dress, which went viral online with people saying they saw a variety of different colours. Well, a new meme has now got people talking. This video shows a man on a swing in a snowy scene. What do you see . I see a man swinging towards the building. The big question this time which way is he swinging . Is he facing towards the camera or towards the building behind him . I see isee him i see him swinging towards the camera. I swear that this person is swinging towards the camera. I dont understand how you see him swinging away. It has had 10 million online views. How many arguments has prompted . So many already for the loss of you sending in different messages. People who agree with me are facing the building, lisa, pete, emma, nick, janine, tom, jane. And agree with you . Paul, joanna, susan, sue, dan, claire. There are a couple of both, though. At the beginning i could see both and now i can only see swinging away. Ican see swinging away. I can only see swinging towards. It is very strange. I have contact then. Have you got contacts . Yes. Take another look. We could swap places. Lets try it anyway. Lets get tangled. C. C. We can be tangled. No, i am still seeing it, still seeing it come towards. Are you still seeing it away . Definitely going away. 0k. How are we going to do the next bit . We really mess it up. Really upset the director. Lets see it again and we will swap around. Yeah, tim is going to get upset with us. Go anyway, tell us what. Us. Go anyway, tell us what. I love the way they didnt cut back to it so they could watch you do that. Let mejust to they could watch you do that. Let me just to replug they could watch you do that. Let mejust to replug in. It is on social media. It is on so you can watch it. We enjoyed it. I love working with you. You make me laugh. 0k. It is now 710. 7 10. 2019 has been an eventful year for the royal family. In the last month alone, theyve dealt with personal controversies and the duke of edinburghs admission to hospital. The queen even refers to a bumpy year in her christmas message, which will be broadcast tomorrow afternoon. Lets talk to the royal commentator victoria murphy, whojoins us from our london newsroom. Good morning, victoria. It is interesting that we have had a little sneak peek of what the queens messages going to be. What do you get . These two extracts released from Buckingham Palace and other full broadcast. It has been a very challenging year for the royal family and many people were wondering whether or not the queen would choose to references in her broadcast. It is her one opportunity at the end of every year to directly address her people. She speaks as head of the nation, she also speaks as head of the commonwealth, but it does also speak on matters of personal significance. So we have seenin personal significance. So we have seen in previous years a reference very specifically a personal milestone, jubilees, weddings, births and we may see her do this is easier because we only have these extracts so far. But she also very often speaks in a much more general term on themes such as unity, reconciliation, and these are of course very widely interpreted. And with all last year her comments on treating each other with respect and deep seated differences, where of course it was widely attributed to those brexit negotiations that dominated the year. And this year she has spoken of the path not a lwa ys she has spoken of the path not always being smooth, i have felt bumpy at times and taking small steps towards healing long held differences. And it has been interpreted in the same way in regards to the nations challenges. But also, given the year that her family have had, i think it was inevitable and i am sure that the royal family would have inevitable and i am sure that the royalfamily would have been inevitable and i am sure that the royal family would have been very aware of this, that those comments will also have been taken, acknowledgement of the challenges of the family this year. Victoria, i know you have been in touch with the palace press office. Talking about the language, they have obviously chosen every word, every sentence very carefully, what they released. Did you get any hint that this was specifically about the family this year . I do speak with them regularly, and i think i have also done this for a long time and i know how they work and i think you have to look to the have released specific extracts. They have chosen these extracts i think in the awareness that these are moments in the speech that people may feel have matters of significance. And i think there is definitely an acknowledgement there that the queen speaks on National Challenges but she does also speak on matters of personal significance as well in this speech. When we talk about the queens speech, we talk about it is a great Christmas Day tradition. How important or how significant is it in this modern day . That is interesting. Obviously it has changed a lot. It started out as a radio broadcast. The first one was done by the queens grandfather in 1932. It has been televised since 1957 and of course now it is a very slick operation, interspersed with lots of videos from throughout the year. It has also released crucially on social media now because of because now the royal family can ta ke because now the royal family can take their message directly to people all around the world and i think importantly for them around the commonwealth. But it has been a really sta ble the commonwealth. But it has been a really stable part of our Christmas Day events. 3pm every Christmas Day the queens with mismatches in broadcast. For a lot of people, that is still a moment when they choose to watch that and reflect along with our head of state on the events of the last 12 months. Victoria murphy, thank you very much. Merry christmas to you as well. Thank you. Thank you. I will be watching it at three oclock, and i have to get everything ready so we have lunch afterwards. It isa afterwards. It is a late lunch. Late lunch is good. As long as you have a fun breakfast. Long fizzy breakfast. Carol is at gloucester cathedral with a look at this mornings weather. We have been listening to the choristers there. It has been absolutely fantastic. We will be hearing from them again shortly when they sing o we will be hearing from them again shortly when they sing 0 little town of bethlehem. While the cathedral is over 900 years old and we are in the clo iste rs. Over 900 years old and we are in the cloisters. If you watch harry potter movies or sherlock, wolf hall or doctor who you may recognise these because they have been featured in all those programmes and movies. Another thing you may not know is thatjohn suffered smith was a chorister here way back in the 18th century. You might want to know who he is. He wrote the music for the American National anthem and there is an American Flag inside the cathedral just in his is an American Flag inside the cathedraljust in his honour. Inside the cathedral it is cold. If you come here laterfor a christmas service, wrapup outside, the temperature at the moment in the highlands is 7. 5. A cold start with some frost and some fog across parts of the highlands. Generally today the forecast for most of us is that we have some rain this morning that will clear and were looking at heavy and thundery showers, particularly across wales and southern england. Have had some of those already this morning. We have a weather front coming from the south west overnight and that pushes north eastward is and that is what has been bringing the rain with it. When will pick up today so the show is coming across wales and southern england and they will be squally, not just with england and they will be squally, notjust with hail england and they will be squally, not just with hail and england and they will be squally, notjust with hail and thunder but also some heavy burst that time as well. And they can be blown from the west of the south east through the day, through and through southern counties as well. After it clears there will be a lot of cloud left over england and wales where there we re over england and wales where there were no showers. For Northern Ireland and scotland there will be a few showers but bright conditions in between with sunny skies coming through. Damages in the north 5 7, in the south about 6 12. Through this evening and overnight many of those showers will fade and we will have some clear skies with the temperature dropping and we are looking at frost forming. Also some fog, particularly so across parts of South West England and also south wales. And that will be slow to clear on Christmas Day. Christmas day will dawn on us on a sparkly note because of the frost. Transient High Pressure means that things will be fine and settled with a fair bit of sunshine but cloud coming in from the west will turn the sunshine hes in the west and through the afternoon it will be cloudier Northern Ireland. Temperatures where they should be at this stage. Through the evening we expect some dense fog patches to form across parts of scotland and Eastern England. If you are travelling, keep that in mind. For boxing day, what a change. Weather fronts from the south west advancing north eastward taking rain with them as they do so and also some transient hills note across the lake district, the pennines, the Southern Uplands and also the highlands. Behind that there will be some bright skies coming through but also some showers and then later on again more rain is going to sweep in from the south west. So certainly the weather is varied. No White Christmas in prospect in the uk, apart, potentially, from on the morning of Christmas Day on the tops of the hills in scotland. But that is about it. And as i promised you earlier, the choristers will be back later with some more carols for us to enjoy. Please promise me that you wont be singing with them either. please promise me that you wont be singing with them either. I will not be you cheeky thing what a lovely Christmas Present. Thank you. be you cheeky thing what a lovely Christmas Present. Thank you. I do acce pt Christmas Present. Thank you. I do accept that i should not interfere with the choristers even though i do enjoy singing. Its the Worlds Largest volunteer firefighting force and is facing one of its Biggest Challenges yet tackling australias raging bushfires. Tomorrow, thousands of unpaid workers from the New South Wales Rural Fire Service will spend Christmas Day on the frontline. One of them is angela burford, who joins us now. Thank you so much forjoining us. Tell us about your plans tomorrow. Will you be working . That is right. I willjoin around 2000 volunteers across New South Wales out fighting across New South Wales out fighting a number of fires. We still have in the vicinity of around 80 bushfires burning across the state so it is has been a long summerfor a so far and we are only halfway through. But and we are only halfway through. But a number of us have put up our hand to work on Christmas Day because, for us, it isjust to work on Christmas Day because, for us, it is just another day working on these fires. That is what we do. We love what we do and we do it for the community. Good on you for doing it. 80 different fires. How do you prioritise which ones you go to . It is a difficult job and we are lucky enough to have 70,000 volu nteers across are lucky enough to have 70,000 volunteers across New South Wales so we are resourced , volunteers across New South Wales so we are resourced, of course these fires are prioritised and there are very important work to be done particularly this week while we have a lull in the weather. So we have cooler temperatures and the wind has died down a bit this week so that gives us a chance to get in and do some important containment work before we see things heat up again on the weekend and we will see another heatwave move through New South Wales next week. So some of these very large fires will potentially pose a risk to communities again next week. Telus as well, can you explain to the situation to you are a volunteer . That is right. So we give our time whenever we can. We all have day jobs as well but we volunteer at our local fire station. Jobs as well but we volunteer at our localfire station. Luckily jobs as well but we volunteer at our local fire station. Luckily enough where i volunteer we do not have any large fires threatening towns near us so tomorrow our truck will travel 2. 5 hours down west of sydney to what we call the Green Wattle Creek fire. We will help out down there where we can. We give up our time to train. We train throughout the year and were going to incident calls, 365 days a year, be car accidents, house fires, bushfires and, yeah, we give up our free house fires, bushfires and, yeah, we give up ourfree time to do house fires, bushfires and, yeah, we give up our free time to do that. An amazing thing. Prime minister Scott Morrison says he is looking at providing extra funding for volunteer firefighters and volunteer firefighters with public sectorjobs will get four weeks paid leave. Will that make a difference . Absolutely. We are very grateful when our employers give us time off work. Obviously it has a huge flow on effect throughout the state and certainly for business as well when they lose their staff. But we are lucky in that Many Employers are supportive of us and they know how important the work we do is. Often you will see throughout the summer and particularly over the Christmas Period, four of us are being released from work tomorrow and from ourfamily so released from work tomorrow and from our family so that we can go out and buy these fires full we appreciate your time buy these fires full we appreciate yourtime and buy these fires full we appreciate your time and you are clearly busy. People like you keep the world going around so thank you so much. Good luck as well. Absolutely right. They do keep it going round. 21 minutes plus seven now. Losing a loved one is always hard, but the Festive Season can make it even tougher if youre missing someone. So whats the best way to cope, if youre one of the millions of people dealing with grief this christmas . Were joined by psychologist emma kenny who lost her father earlier this year, and Linda Magistris who lost her partner graham five years ago and is the founder of the good grief trust. Good morning to you both. Firstly, sorry for your loss and the recent loss of your father as well. Thank you for coming to talk with us. One of the things is that for me, a point of view from someone who has not lost in the presence of someone who has, how do you approach that person . How do people talk to you about your dad and about your personal grief . From my perspective, what helps is that i am open about it. What happens to many people in grief is that they feel awkward. They do not want to broach the issue and that is a real mistake because it is so good to just ask people how they are when they have had a situation of loss. So for me, i want to have that conversation. I suppose what i have learnt is that most people do not know how to respond so do not expect very much from them but still create the conversation. And i do that for two reasons. If they are wood, they will learn how to speak better around the subject. Do you or to other people . To others. Anybody who has lost somebody, it is naturalfor others. Anybody who has lost somebody, it is natural for people to not know what to do. They dont wa nt to to not know what to do. They dont want to upset you so myjob, particularly in my position, is to say that this is how it feels, this is what i need. If they struggle with that, then they will not next time. And it is ok for people to not know what to say. Just say something. Exactly. It is ok. Everything is ok. And especially at christmas. It is ok to say yes to an invitation if your friends and family want to go and celebrate but it is also ok to say no. Or, just to say, you know what . I have to leave. And just leave. They will understand that. Dont put too much pressure on yourself. I do find the christmas makes it a particularly different difficult time of year. It is horrendous it really is for some people. And they actually cannot cope. They cannot leave their house, many people. They cannot go out into the social circles, and especially if you have lost a child or you have lost a partner, ora parent, someone significant. But that could be a friend, or colleague. It depends on the relationship you had with them as to the impact of grief and that is why we launched the National Grief Awareness Week this year early in december, to bring all those Services Together and to raise awareness of the impact of grief. It can be catastrophic on your life. And as emma said, we need to go out and we need to talk about it so much more. It is so cathartic. Why do you think there is, almost like a taboo about this. Why is that . It is strange because we are united by the fa ct strange because we are united by the fact that nobody escapes death. We are doubly aware that everyone will go through loss and when we are aware of something painful, many of us want to avoid it. But for many, the irony is that the one thing we know is that we will all lose significant human beings in our life. Losing my father has been com pletely life. Losing my father has been completely tra nsformative for life. Losing my father has been completely transformative for me. Apart from the fact it was traumatic, the fact that my best friend is no longer available to me. Not having him there and not having him help with my kids, it is catastrophic. So the idea that i now face christmas without him is something that even on a professional level is something really unusual and completely unprepared for. That was the most important thing, why do we need to talk about it more . Believe me, one day, you will be where i am. It may bea day, you will be where i am. It may be a different circumstance that you have lost a person but you will be that persons are learning to vocalise and learning how to fight and strategies to deal with it and to synergise with people who can help is so powerful. You have something about saying names . Exactly. We had four key messages going out during National Grief Awareness Week and one was to say the name. We are thinking about them so please refer to them by name. Here from our Facebook Page that has been shed over 6000 times. It says if you know someone who has lost an important person in their life and you are afraid to mention them because you think you may make them because you think you may make them sad by reminding them that they died, you are not reminding them. They did not forget that they died. What you remind them of his that you remember that they lived and that is a great effort. And there will be semi people watching this morning who have lost loved ones and it can ta ke who have lost loved ones and it can take you at any point, cant it . Who have lost loved ones and it can take you at any point, cant it . At any moment. Any trigger. It does not matter whether it is an anniversary or christmas. It can happen anywhere. And particularly at christmas, went down and i wear potentially one of your partners, love that particular cheese or something, you can abide anymore. It absolutely floor you. There is support. We have over 700 organisations on our data base. Support. We have over 700 organisations on our database. We have helplines, online support, we have helplines, online support, we have groups. We have had some comments from our viewers which is a lwa ys comments from our viewers which is always lovely. We always love this. Dean. And this is how people cope. And i will be interested to see if any of these resonate with you. I have notary up or anything, i go for a long on Christmas Day, stay positive that there will be happier times in the new year. Claire says she spends alone surrounded by happy thoughts memories. she spends alone surrounded by happy thoughts memories. I will still do christmas but my father is invited to the christmas because his absences his presence. And knowing that you need to do it your way, there is no right nor no it is painful, to grieve, but remember, andi painful, to grieve, but remember, and i want everyone to remember this, that, one, the volume switch on wonder and all the Amazing Things is turned down but you can turn it up is turned down but you can turn it up again. The absence of that person is deafening but in time the volume switch will head to the right position and remember there is a lwa ys position and remember there is always hope and new opportunity. Suzanne has a nice one here. She says be kind to yourself, it is ok to smile and be with others and it is also 0k to want to be by yourself as well. It is ok to smile and ok to cry as well. And there is hope out there. And drink some gin i know you will be raising a glass of whatever to your father and two grammars well. We wish you all the best. Please do look is up if you need support. Police are asking if anyone has any information to contact them. He is a family man. He loves hisjob and his friends and his kids. It is christmas. Feeling a little cooler as well become thursday and boxing day there is a chance for more wet weather so enjoy that sunshine tomorrow. Around 2,000 volunteer firefighters will spend their Christmas Day tackling australias bushfires as the crisis continues. The countrys Prime Minister has pledged more support amid criticism from some unpaid workers. Nine people have died after more than 8a fires devastated homes and businesses. We have a rather brilliantly embarrassing moment from Spanish Television yesterday. The reporter is clutching a winning Lottery Ticket and has just told her colleagues live on air that shes not coming in to work tomorrow. How much did she think she had one . Won . The trouble is she needs to share her a million euro jackpot with hundreds of other winners. It means she actually only won around £a,000. She had to share it with loads and loads of other people. She didnt know. Apparently she did call work and she apologised for the way that she reacted. She probably asked for herjob back. If it was her editor, we founded if we that is it. We found out that if we quit. That is it. We wouldnt tell anyone. We would come in and just be really smug, and also slightly more difficult. Good morning, jane you would have a jane shaped hole in the wall. I love myjob but i love lying on the beach more. We love all of that. What we hate is this nonsense that we are seeing. I was there and i heard these three announcement. It was chelsea versus totte n ha m announcement. It was chelsea versus tottenham on sunday, a a 30pm kickoff. During the match i heard these announcements and it was three times saying that racism will not be tolerated in the ground. And i remember turning around and saying, is this normal . Were you sitting. I was is this normal . Were you sitting. Iwas in is this normal . Were you sitting. I was in the home, near the halfway line. As i was facing the pitch, the song incident was down at end. The son heung min incident. That is not uncommon. It has happened on a couple of occasions, alleged racist abuse. But it is the first time in the premier league there has been announcements and it is the first protocol as it were, if you will, from uefa and fifa as well. Things have gone further because tottenham have gone further because tottenham have launched an investigation of course, and the uk government are saying they were not ruled out taking further steps if the footballing authorities in england failed to deal with racism. It follows Sundays Premier League match between tottenham and chelsea when play was stopped after Antonio Rudiger said he heard monkey noises. Tottenham have studied hours of cctv footage with lip readers to find the alleged perpetrators, but their findings were inconclusive. Meanwhile, a chelsea fan has been arrested for allegedly abusing tottenham player son heung min during the same game. Facing the media ahead of the boxing day fixtures, tottenham Managerjose Mourinho gave his thoughts on the issue of racism in football. Do we need help . Yes. But Society Needs help. We need to eradicate. Is that the correct word . Yep. We need to eradicate any form of discrimination, and in this case, we are speaking about racism. And, yes, football needs help. Society needs help. Well, the Sheffield United manager, chris wilder, agreed with mourinho and said fans shouldnt hold back in calling out racism when they see it in the stands. I have always thought it was always society attached to football teams and football grounds. But if you are sitting next to somebody who is doing it, just out them, out the people next to you. Be brave and police your own football ground. Elsewhere, the new arsenal manager mikel arteta has confirmed that Freddie Ljungberg will remain as part of the clubs backroom staff. Ljungberg was in caretaker charge before artetas arrival, but they only won once in six matches. Artetas first game in charge is at bournemouth on boxing day. The England Cricket Team are still waiting on the fitness of bowlersjofra archer, stuart broad and jack leech ahead of their a test series against south africa. All three of them have taken part in a net session with archer and broad bowling five overs each after missing the warm up matches through illness. Captainjoe root says hell trust the players to decide if theyre fit to feature in the first test that starts at centurion on thursday. And finally, diving in football has been an ongoing issue for some years now, but for two teams in tanzania, they were left with no choice. Players were forced to drop to the ground when a swarm of bees invaded the pitch. It led to the match being stopped briefly for a few moments as players and fans tried to find cover they were trying to get their bees out of their hair there. Diving to the ground. Not just out of their hair there. Diving to the ground. Notjust the players, but the linesman as well. To try and escape the killer bees they had come to watch the match. That is sport. Killer bees i wouldnt have known to lay down on the floor. I will now. I will remember. If it ever happens to me. Thank you very much. Thank you very much forjoining us this morning. For those who are sleeping rough this christmas, a hot lunch and some company can really help. 280,000 people are homeless in england, according to the Charity Shelter and one project aiming to tackle the problem is opening its doors at city hall in london. Brea kfasts tim muffett is there for us this morning. Good morning for use. What plans have they got . Good morning for use. What plans have they got . Good morning to you. The london mayor as well. Homelessness can take on many forms. It might be sleeping in a hostile or on someones sofa, but when it comes rough sleeping, it is thought almost 9000 people slept rough on the sleep streets in london. That has doubled since 2010. Lets have a chat to some of the people helping out here and taking advantage of what is on offer. Marcus, you are rough sleeping. How important is it to come along here and get some food . It is mostly important, some people are struggling to get a cup of tea. People, theyjust see the homeless. I was helped to get a place to live. You work for a charity. This is a short term thing for one day. What can achieve in the long term . For one day. What can achieve in the longterm . I think christmas can be a difficult time of year if you dont have family around, and this is an opportunity to show some compassion at a difficult time of year for people who might otherwise be on the street or in emergency accommodation. In london at the moment here, it just accommodation. In london at the moment here, itjust so happens that the mayor of london is supporting us, providing Emergency Services for people who would otherwise be on the streets. Today also opening the doors and providing some food and some support. Marcus, you are back on track now. How did you get out of that spiral . I was homeless and using drugs. I have come off the drugs now and i was helped to get a support place to stay at first and then i stayed in a hostel. From that, i ended up getting my own flat. I am really glad to hear that andi flat. I am really glad to hear that and i hope you have a good day today. What is the idea, people can bring their pets along . Thank you very much and we will see you later. Thank you. Carol is at gloucester cathedral with a look at this mornings weather. He doesnt look too bad. You have a little father christmas there. I have onlyjust noticed it. It is carol before she has had a shave good morning, carole how very dare you good morning, everybody. I am a gorgeous gloucester cathedral which is over 900 years old. Henry iii was crowned ya hweh 900 years old. Henry iii was crowned yahweh back in 1216 when he was only nine years old, and he had to use his mothers jules nine years old, and he had to use his mothersjules because a royal crown jewels had gone his mothersjules because a royal crownjewels had gone missing. I wa nt to crownjewels had gone missing. I want to show you Something Else. Take a look at the organ. It is quite stunning. If you lay them all laid quite stunning. If you lay them all laid on the pipes and aligned, they would extend for a good ten miles. It doesnt look like that, does it . Apparently that is a fact. This morning is a chilly start for some of us. Damages in the highlands fell two 7. 5. For you this morning there is some frost and frog across parts of northern scotland. The forecast generally today is a wet one. We have some rain which is going to move across the rest of england, clearing southern scotland and Eastern England in the next few hours, but ive yet few showers and some of those will be heavy and salary with hail accompanied by squally winds as well. You can see why on the present chart. We have a weather front that is bringing rain across england and wales and Northern Ireland through the night. It is now slowly slipping its way off into the north sea, bringing conditions with it. We have already got some heavy thundery showers across parts of wales, and we will see those develop. Also in South West England and southern counties blown along on a gusty wind. Quitea counties blown along on a gusty wind. Quite a lot of cloud behind the bout of rain for england and wales. For scotland and Northern Ireland you have a few showers but you should see them right guys and sunshine with temperatures in the north of five degrees and in the south, 12 degrees. As we had on through the evening and overnight, many of those showers will tend to fade and then it is going to be a cold night with clear skies and a frosty night. We will see some fog actors develop across South West England and south wales be slow to clear during Christmas Day. Christmas day. Christmas day will dawn on a sparkling note due to the frost by the transient ridge of High Pressure a cross frost by the transient ridge of High Pressure across other means they will be a fair bit of sunshine. More cloud through the day coming in from the west, turning the sunshine hazy. In Northern Ireland you will see a lot more cloud through the course of the afternoon. Temperatures roughly where they should be at this stage in december, but if you are travelling on Christmas Day evening, we are expecting some dense fog patches across scotland and also eastern part of england. As we head into boxing day, what a change for the weather front is coming from the south west, introducing heavy rain and putting off these woods across the country. There will be snow on the country. There will be snow on the hills in the lake district, also the hills in the lake district, also the pennines, the southern upland in the pennines, the southern upland in the highlands. Behind those we will see some blustery showers before the next weather front comes our way. If you are travelling, to bear all that in mind. It is my pleasure once again to introduce you to the fabulous choristers who this time i going to sing little town of bethlehem. This 0 little town of bethlehem how still we see thee lie above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light mag three are met in thee tonight for christ is born for christ is born of mary and gathered all above while mortals sleep, the angels keep their watch of wondering love heavenly. You have been enjoying the mix of boys and girls there, havent you . Been enjoying the mix of boys and girls there, havent you . been enjoying the mix of boys and girls there, havent you . I was at a service last night and it is so special to hear those young people and watch them sing. Wonderful. Here isa and watch them sing. Wonderful. Here is a fact for you about choristers. There are 739 girl choristers, 737 boy choristers. So for the first time in englands cathedrals for the first time girl choristers outnumber the boys. For the first time. The tradition for a long time was that it was only ever boys. Thats a nice fa ct it was only ever boys. Thats a nice fact for you this morning. it was only ever boys. Thats a nice fact for you this morning. I wish i had known that last night. Were talking food waste this morning. Not household leftovers but the products that dont get sold from supermarket shelves. Seans back in the studio after being in the supermarket himself yesterday. How big a problem is this, sean . We see the shelves are packed with food and then what happens . Yesterday morning they had a delivery at 3am to make sure that although shelves were fully stocked for yesterday. And they will hope to have sold every item of food by the end of Christmas Eve because things like ms pies and christmas puddings will not be on shopping lists in the weeks to come. That is the christmas issue. That it is an issue all year round. 260,000 tons of food from supermarkets go to waste every year. And the Waste Charity wrap. The Waste Charity wrap thinks around ten million tons of food is wasted overall every year. Retailers actually account for just about 2 of overall food waste. Any changes they can make will make a difference. And one of the things that campaigners say can be an issue is best before dates and use by dates and confusing shoppers. The difference is that used by dates say that that is a safety date. Do not use after that date. Whereas best before is an indication of quality. If you want the best of the food, the need to before this day. So those kind of things i think that retailers are trying to change a little bit in that communication. But they still have stuff to work on. But, legally, if there is a best before i use by date, they cannot sell it on. Even though we can choose to consume beyond that day, they will not leave it on the ship foods in recent it not necessarily having dates like a best before. Loose spot does not always have a best for date on it. So there are things that supermarkets are doing in that respect. And food redistribution, that is what we have been talking about this morning. That is where any food waste that supermarket has is not wasted and goes off to be used elsewhere. That is up three times over recent years and we were looking this morning at schemes that use these kind of redistribution platforms and one example is a food bank we spoke to in manchester. What we do is receive a text message from this store we then come collect food, take it to then come collect food, take it to the centre and from that point we cut it up and serve it. It isjust a matter of looking at it and deciding what we can make. We have to utilise what we can make. We have to utilise what we can make. We have to utilise what we have but we usually produce nice food. Basically i think it is for people who are socially isolated. Who were told that if they come to us they would not go out otherwise. We are all they have is what some people tell us. So that is one solution there. Other ones include, about a hundred food organisations and businesses have pledged to halve the amount of food waste by 2030. So they are the kind of things where we will see more in the process. Is that all . This is the process. Is that all . This is the difficulty. Much of it is consumer driven. That supermarket yesterday morning, if the shelves we re yesterday morning, if the shelves were m d, you may not think that thatis were m d, you may not think that that is the supermarket for you to go to next time you want to do your shopping. And so there are many people involved in the whole supply chain here and consumers on the end of it to try and encourage these businesses to do more. Some may be consumers could do more in that respect. Earlier we were speaking to one of the platforms that helps businesses linkup with charity to try and use this stuff and steve butterworth, the chief executive of neighbourly, i was saying wondering if businesses just sign up to make themselves look better, perhaps not actually help to resolve the problem. The subject of food waste has always been there to the extent that doing the right thing with it now, yes, of course it is socially more acceptable if it is being given toa more acceptable if it is being given to a charity but from a point of view of the way that the modern day consumer expects the retailer to do the right thing and employees as well expect the business they work for to do the right thing with surplus. It is now being built into the dna of the operating procedures within these organisations. So that is been a look at what retailers do. But as we will find out over the next few days, so much of that waste comes from households and so anything you can do, that extra bit of soup you make from turkey bits. try not to waste a thing. You said you were organised about christmas this year. I might be organised or may have purchased fewer presence. But they are all wrap and ready. like your thinking. Fewer presence to wrap. Sean, you get a gold star from everyone this morning. But many people may not have done their wrapping. Are you good at it was to mark i like it. Mine is wrapping. Are you good at it was to marki like it. Mine is precision exercise. Noone else in my house is allowed to rapidly presents. Can i give you my presents next time . We have advice if you havent got into it yet. Jane is out and about this morning with top tips from people who know how to sort out christmas. Good morning. We really know how to sort this out. And it does look fantastic. You also have top tips on recycling paper . Yes. If you are buying a paper from the shops, obviously, you will be a have a sign. The shinier the paper it is the less chance you have of recycling the paper. But if you get a present and you are not sure if you can recycle it or not, just rip it. If it rip, recycle it. If it does not, then you cannot recycle it. Fantastic. I bet many people in homes or on social media this fantastic tip of how to wrap a present with only one piece of sellotape. Can you do it . present with only one piece of sellotape. Can you do it . I will be honest with you, no i cannot. It is not easy because they all edit the videos and they put everything up and lets just see how we do. So you cant do it that way. You cant do it that way. 0h cant do it that way. You cant do it that way. Oh no, you can, actually. But one piece of sellotape, that is the trick. You wrap it around. That way. Lets go in shaky hands. And you do it like that. Go on. No pressure. And now no sellotape yet. And then. Nearly, you are nearly there. We will do it. We will do it. Maybe not with one piece. One big long piece of sellotape may be. So you can do it but it is not easy. I did my video on social media and it does not work. Have a look, you will have to do it three times to get it right. Cani do it three times to get it right. Can ijust do it three times to get it right. Can i just say quickly, do it three times to get it right. Can ijust say quickly, do rich people hire you to come to their house to do this type of thing . People hire you to come to their house to do this type of thing7m is christmas. The equivalent of a million meals worth of food which would otherwise have been thrown away has gone to Homeless Charities in the lead up to christmas. The Felix Project has seen a 50 increase in surplus food donations from supermarkets and indivudals. It goes to organisations like the Barons Court Project which provide hot meals and services to rough sleepers and vulnerable people. Some people are cooking and providing a hot meal. Some people are providing food that other people can take away. It fills a huge need. Good morning from gloucester cathedral, it is Christmas Eve and we will be joined by the choristers through the rest of the programme singing carols. It isa of the programme singing carols. It is a chilly start. , rain and showers forecast, some of us will see some sunshine. I will tell you where in 15 minutes. Studio isnt studio isnt that lovely . more on that later. Its tuesday, december the 2ath. Our top story the queen will use her Christmas Day message to say that 2019 has been quite bumpy. It comes after a year of intense political debate over brexit, as well as a number of personal events affecting the royal family. Heres our royal correspondent, nicholas witchell. Complaining about the problems, as they see them, of being in the public eye. I have no recollection of ever meeting this lady, none whatsoever. As the queen settles down for the royal familys christmas at sandringham, she will be hoping she will at least be reunited with her husband. The duke of edinburgh has spent a fourth night at a hospital in london being treated his family will be hoping he is well enough today to join them at sandringham. The duke and duchess of sussex have revealed their festive greeting via the Queens Commonwealth trust twitter account. Captured in black and white, the image shows their seven month old son archie, gazing into the camera. The card was not officially released, instead it was emailed to friends and staff and hard copies sent to family. Harry and meghan are currently spending a six week break in canada. Borisjohnson and Jeremy Corbyn have thanked nhs staff and other Public Servants who work through the holidays in their christmas messages. The Prime Minister also said the uk stood in solidarity with christians around the world who faced persecution for their beliefs. Mr corbyn said it had been a difficult year for many but christmas was a chance to reflect on hopes for a better world. Around 2,000 volunteer firefighters will spend their Christmas Day tackling australias bushfires as the crisis continues. The countrys Prime Minister has pledged more support amid criticism from some unpaid workers. Nine people have died after more than 8a fires devastated homes and businesses. Our news correspondent phil mercer is in bargo in New South Wales. You have been following this for us for weeks and it is just becoming more and more difficult, being hit by record temperatures and there is still work to be done into the Festive Season . This miserable scene in bargo is one of about 1000 homes in the state of New South Wales destroyed by the bushfires since the start ofjuly. This miserable scene is being repeated time and time again in australias most populous state. The government under Prime Minister Scott Morrison says volunteer firefighters who work for the government, who had federal jobs, will get a month plus my pay to help them take time off to fight these fires. Make no mistake, today is cooler, conditions are far more favourable for the firefighting effort. Many of these places raise out of control, the authorities hope to use the calmer conditions to get the upper hand but make no mistake, many of these fires not just the upper hand but make no mistake, many of these fires notjust in New South Wales but elsewhere are burning very separately and ferociously, they are very big. The emergency might have passed for now but many australians expect more dangerous days ahead. Thank you very much, phil mercer, taking us through what has been going on with the wildfires in bargo in australia. After years of trying to conceive, tv news presenters hannah and Lewis Vaughan jones wanted to show the world the realities of what its like to go through ivf. The couple documented their fertility struggles openly and honestly through a series of video blogs. Lets take a look at their sometimes harrowing journey during their seventh round of ivf. 0k. So, it is day one of round seven. Still nervous about getting to fertilisation, to be honest. Thats amazing. So weve got six . Six. And maybe seven . Maybe one, yes. I dont want to move in case i dislodge them and they fall out. She said, congratulations, youre pregnant. So that white thing fluttering there is a slow heartbeat. We just found out that the pregnancy hasnt progressed, that the. The foetus hadnt grown and the heartbeat wasnt there any more. Isnt there any more. Obviously devastated. I dont think i ever really believed this was going to work. After 15 rounds of ivf, were delighted to say hannah and lewis have had a baby boy. The this. Here he is. My goodness, congratulations. Why dont you do the introductions, hannah . This is sonny, matheson is his first name but it is a big name for a little quy but it is a big name for a little guy, he is sonny to us, he isjust about to kick off on cue, his first tv appearance. Dont worry if he does, it isjust tv appearance. Dont worry if he does, it is just what happens. What a journey you have been on, havent you, hannah . As you said at the beginning, it was quite harrowing as well for the last six or seven yea rs, well for the last six or seven years, obviously we have the best Christmas Present ever at the end of it. It has been really, really difficult and we have been very public about it for the last, probably, three years also. The initial four or five years was very private and painful and lots of shame involved, anyone going through infertility of any sort will be familiar with that and understand. We have been lucky, we are the very, very lucky ones to be sitting here today with this little gem. Lewis, what has it been like for your point of view . You are both part of this journey but it is very hard, presumably, watching your wife go through very tough times, and you going through them . It is awful, watching your wife with all the physical injections and the hormones and the emotional, crushing news after round after round where it didnt work and didnt work and all we didnt work and didnt work and all we knew was we wanted a family and frankly did not think it would happen for us. The statistics were well against us, we never thought at the last couple of rounds that it would work for us and we had already emotionally moved on, we had said we will not do any rounds, this will be our last try, it was the last embryo that we had left and we even sent it off for testing to see if it was ok, the test results came back inconclusive so we did not think it would work at all and almost thought we would work at all and almost thought we have come this far, we may as well try, we put the little embryo backin well try, we put the little embryo back in and, unbelievably, it is now him, it is no sonny and we cant believe it. It is wonderful. I know you have been quite honest about talking about. When you hear that somebody is pregnant, how that has made you feel in the past and even your concerns about giving an interview like that, it might upset other people . Exactly. We live in twickenham and it might have just been my hormones playing tricks on me but it seems like you are co nsta ntly me but it seems like you are constantly surrounded by young families and prams and buggies on the high street and the like and it was very, very surreal for me, only a couple of times i have made it at the house so far, i have to say, but just to walk around with a pram with my just to walk around with a pram with b just to walk around with a pram with my baby has been just unbelievable. Iam my baby has been just unbelievable. I am conscious all the time of the fa ct i am conscious all the time of the fact that there could be women, men, up and down the same high street going down the same pain that we went through. We got lucky, we will never forget that, it will shape him and as for the rest of our lives. What an angel baby he is. It is notjust the emotional impact, it is the physical and financial impact. Absolutely, usually the men, but the partner who is not going to the ivf, there is little you can do and little you have control over, so what i tended to do was fixate about things like the finances, it is an unbelievable amount of money and you stress about it, but we took the decision that we wa nt it, but we took the decision that we want to spend all the money we have ever earned, everything we have had to because, for us, a family was what we wanted in life and we were very lucky that we could do it, but it adds an extra layer of stress and worry to everything, as does so much with the process. It is a horrible, ruling process, especially when you dont actually think it will work. Let it is a horrible, gruelling process. It is surreal talking to you now with him here, it does not quite feel real, but it is, it is amazing. It is lovely to see the pairof you, amazing. It is lovely to see the pair of you, sorry, the three of you, i should say have you gotten Christmas Presents or not . We havent got him anything Christmas Presents or not . We havent got him anything you are making us look like awful parents already, we are only 13 days in. He has a christmas romper on and christmas bootees. I have been watching the programme, the beauty of having a newborn is that you watch a lot of breakfast tv, there isa watch a lot of breakfast tv, there is a lot ofa watch a lot of breakfast tv, there is a lot of a welsh theme, gavin and stacey. It was filmed about five miles from where i grew up sol stacey. It was filmed about five miles from where i grew up so i can say today that this is tidy. Honestly, you couldnt have done a better trail for our programme. Can ijust better trail for our programme. Can i just say you are not better trail for our programme. Can ijust say you are not bad parents for not getting matheson or sonny a present. It is sensible, he will not remember. You have a christmas tree, you have a christmas baby suit, you look immaculate, thank you so much. It is wonderful to talk to you, and so many congratulations, i know it has been tough, thank you so much. What a gorgeous baby. I love the way he said it was about to kick off. If youve been affected by any of the issues weve just been talking about, you can find a list of charities that can help on the bbc actionline website at www. Bbc. Co. Uk actionline. And they spoke about how it can make other people feel sad that they have a beautiful baby. Photo with you, it is lovely to have a positive story today. Let our thoughts are with you. If you are wondering why carol is, she has gone to gloucester cathedral to work it off with some singing. And also look at the weather. Good morning. singing. And also look at the weather. Good morning. I am glad i dont have a monitor and i cant see what youre talking about, but i dont think it was a compliment, somehow. It is a beautiful morning in gloucester cathedral, it is fairly empty at the moment that you would imagine that for midnight night for Midnight Mass it will be packed, as it probably will be for the Family Services taking place this afternoon. In 1089 william the conqueror ordered the construction of gloucester cathedral, making it over 900 years old. You might recognise some of it if you are a harry potter fan, some of the filming has taken place here, as has pa rt filming has taken place here, as has part of doctor micra, sherlock and wilful to as has part of doctor who. The forecast for us all today has some rain or showers in it. Some of the showers are heavy and thundery and will be through today, accompanied by seven hail and squally winds. On the pressure charge, you can see we have had a weather front moving in from the south west, moving north eastwards, taking the rain with it. Murky conditions, lighter and more patchy in the north east, then we see the wind strength and in the showers packing. We have showers across wales and South West England, gusty winds as the day picks up, it will blow those showers across the midlands and into the south eastern southern counties of england. Behind the rain, quite a bit of cloud, if you are in scotland and Northern Ireland, although there will be showers, you will see bright skies and sunshine when we lose any Early Morning fog from the north of scotland. Temperatures ranging from five in the north to 12 in the south. This evening and overnight, many showers will fade except for in the northern fate north and west, temperatures will fall and there will be quite a widespread frost. We will be quite a widespread frost. We will see patchy mist and fog across parts of South West England and south wales. Tomorrow morning, quite a sparkly start because of the frost, with transient ridge of High Pressure it means things will be fairly settled with sunshine. Through the day, more clarity from the west, turning the sunshine hazy, if you are in Northern Ireland on Christmas Day tomorrow, you will see quite a bit of cloud. Temperatures roughly where they should be in december. On Christmas Day evening we are looking at dense fog forming across parts of scotland and Eastern England, by that in mind if you are travelling. What a difference on boxing day, weatherfront moving north eastward from the south west, taking heavy rain with them as they do so with some snow on the hills across parts of the lake district, the pennines, the Southern Uplands and also the highlands. Behind that, showers, bright spells, the winds picking up and then more rain comes our way. We have been enjoying the choristers here through the course of the morning, and once again we will hear them, this time they will be singing in the bleak midwinter. Adrian. In in the bleak midwinter. Frosty wind made moan. Frosty wind made moan. Earth stood silent. Earth stood silent. Water like a stone. Water like a stone. Snow had fallen, snow on snow. Snow had fallen, snow on snow. Snow had fallen, snow on snow. Snow on snow. Snow on snow. In snow on snow. In the bleak midwinter. In the bleak midwinter. Long ago. Long ago. What can i give him, poor as i am . What can i give him, poor as i am . Ifl what can i give him, poor as i am . If i were what can i give him, poor as i am . Ifiwerea what can i give him, poor as i am . If i were a schepper. Studio louise, you have been enjoying this all morning . I have absolutely loved it. We will be back with them at the end of the programme. Another entirely different story. Six month old labradoodle puppy waffle was stolen yesterday morning after a man approached his owner and threatened her with what she believed was a knife. Police described it as a cruel and mean spirited crime. Waffles owner catherine told the bbc about the moment he was taken, and made an emotional plea for his return. He was jabbing it towards me and gesturing again with his hand. And i just froze, froze against the wall. And i dont know if ive handed my dog over or if. Hejust snatched him and then ran. I dont know what happened there and then, because i was just, basically, stuck to the wall. I cant remember. Terrifying. Ive never been so scared in all my life. Ijust want my dog home. Hes my baby. I live here on my own with my two cats and him, and ijust want my dog back. Ican i can only imagine so many people will be sympathising with the owner of waffle, catherine, obviously devastated. We can speak now to colin butcher, a former detective sergeant who now specialises in recovering stolen or missing animals. Thank you very much forjoining us. How thank you very much forjoining us. H ow ofte n thank you very much forjoining us. How often is this happening . This is the story that tugs at my heartstrings this morning. The National Statistics show there are about five dogs stolen every day, it is probably double that. It is quite serious, right across the uk, a big problem now. What can be done . What is the likelihood of catherine getting waffle back . Devon and Cornwall Police have really taken this offence very, very seriously, they will be pulling out all the stops to help recover waffle. There isa stops to help recover waffle. There is a little bit of confusion that needs to be cleared up, specifically if the victim of the crime believes the knife was used, and that is how it should be treated, it should be treated as a very serious offence. That is a problem, if the police are confused as to whether this was a street robbery or not then it plays into the arms of the thief. Lets get that confusion out of the way, thats focus on this particular offence and decide what is it an opportunistic theft or was it specifically targeting that particularjob . It specifically targeting that particular job . It is specifically targeting that particularjob . It is very important to establish that. Why is that important . It is about the strategy you were deployed to deal with the offence. If it is an opportunistic theft, for example, the chances are theft, for example, the chances are the offender would have been spotted by somebody before the offence was committed, so it is easier to ca ptu re committed, so it is easier to capture them. And if it is planned, strategic, so to speak, what are we talking about now . Waffle being is not as a potential pet but for some other purpose . Yes. At this time of year we give lots of warnings to people that puppies are targeted by dog thieves. If this is a targeted offence, the owner was selected amongst other dog owners, that is a far more sinister offence and needs to be treated that way. Whilst there is confusion, the police will say, have we got a street robbery or a straightforward theft . They need to establish exactly what they are dealing with. I would say catherine needs to be spoken to, she is clearly very traumatised, and establish exactly what happened. She clearly think she was shown. A knife was used, that is important. It is quite a serious offence and it has been seen by millions of people across the country. Briefly, for anyone worried and he is this going on, especially at walking with the job, what is your advice to pet owners . You have to be cautious, if you have a young dog, a puppy, appreciate that you might be targeted whilst in possession of that young dog. If you are threatened by anyone, take a deep breath and scream at the top of your lungs, make the thief for that they will be caught, they will turnaround and run, that would be my advice. Thank you very much, colin butcher. Make them fear that they will be caught. If you have waffle, give him back, a six month old labradoodle, belongs to catherine. Just give him back, dont be horrible. It is so out of order. If anyone has seen waffle, that he is, get in touch with the local police and we will try to get in reunited with catherine. Please do, devastating for her. Time now to get the news, travel and weather where you are. Good morning from bbc london. The partner of a firefighter from 0rpington who went missing on a work night out says his disappearance is completely out of character. Police in sussex say they are increasingly concerned about anthony knott, who has been missing since friday. The father of four was last seen at a pub in lewis. Around 200 children and their families were invited to a Charity Event in marble arch, run by children with cancer uk. They were treated to brunch with santa and gifts. The event aimed to ease the burden of cancer at christmas time and give families a chance to form support networks with others. It is a difficultjourney for all their families and the patients, the children themselves. So to get them away from that environment and get them here for some fun and to meet santa, get some presents and to have some quality family time together. Im back with the latest from the bbc london now though its back to louise and naga. Bye for now. Its its exactly half past eight. Heres a summary of this mornings main stories from bbc news. The queen will use her Christmas Day message to say that 2019 has been quite bumpy. It comes after a year of intense political debate over brexit, as well as a number of personal events affecting the royal family. The duke of edinburgh has spent a fourth night in hospital, and last month her son Prince Andrew withdrew from public life after allegations about his friendship with convicted sex offenderjeffrey epstein. Were joined now by our correspondent, andy moore, who is outside the hospital in london where the duke of edinburgh is being treated. Any idea whether he will be able to get home for christmas . We have no news on that, in fact we havent had no official news about the duke since friday after he was admitted to hospital for what was described as a pre existing condition. We dont know what that condition. We dont know what that condition was. We had perhaps a hint from Prince Charles, his son, yesterday, of how the the duke was getting on. Prince charles was with flood victims in fishlake in doncaster and was asked by people about his father, and he said, at his age, he is 98, things dont work so well. He talked about the care he is getting here at the king edward vii hospital. He said he is being looked after very well, and thats all we know. Andy, thank you. The duke and duchess of sussex have revealed their festive greeting via the Queens Commonwealth trust twitter account. Captured in black and white, the image shows their seven month old son archie gazing into the camera. Around 2000 volunteer firefighters will spend their Christmas Day tackling australias bushfires as the crisis continues. Angela burford is one of those unpaid workers wholl spend tomorrow on the front line in New South Wales. Earlier she explained the scale of the task they face. Weve still got in the vicinity of 80 bush fires burning across the state, so its been a long summer for us so far, and were only halfway through. But a number of us have put up our hand to work on Christmas Day, because for us it is just another day working on these fires. So its what we do, we love what we do and we are doing it for the community. It is a difficultjob and we are lucky enough to have 70,000 volunteers across New South Wales, so we are resourced depending on of course how the fires are prioritised. There is important work to be done especially this week while we have a lull in the weather, so we have cooler temperatures in the wind has died down a little, so it gives us a chance to get in and do some very important containment work before we see things start to heat up again on the weekend, and we will see another heatwave move through New South Wales next week. So some of these very large fires could potentially pose a risk to communities again next week. We give ourtime communities again next week. We give our time whenever we can, so we have all got dayjobs as well, but we volunteer at our local fire station. Luckily enough where i volunteer, we dont have any large fires threatening towns near us, so tomorrow our truck will be travelling to and a half hours down just west of sydney to the creek fire, so we will be helping out down there. We are very grateful when our employers give us time off work. Obviously it has a huge effect throughout the state, and certainly for businesses as well when they lose their staff, but we are lucky in that a lot of employers are very supportive of us and they know how important the work that we are doing is, and often you will see throughout the summer and particularly over this Christmas Period, we are being released from work tomorrow, and of course our families, so that we can go out and fight these fires. That was angela bertha talking to me a little bit earlier. It is 8 35am. We have got people talking this morning, disagreements around the uk, because of this video. This is a man on a swing ina of this video. This is a man on a swing in a snowy scene. Watch it carefully. But the question is, which way is he swinging. Is he facing towards the camera, swinging towards us, or towards the building behind him. Ithink towards us, or towards the building behind him. I think he is obviously swinging towards the building. And i know, obviously, he is swinging towards the camera. And jane . Are my the deciding vote . No, you are just jane . Are my the deciding vote . No, you arejust a jane . Are my the deciding vote . No, you are just a voice. I think the feet are going towards the building. You can see the soles of his feet going towards the building. You cannot see that. We clearly disagree. And so do you. Thank you very much for all your messages. Paul, david, emma, pete, mandy, william, brian, allen, mr smith. But mrs smith disagrees. You do have a list. Have you finished your list . Mine is longer its longer its longer, its not longer olivia, olivia smith, the sensible mrs smith, yvette, sue, darren, dale. Thank you very much anyway, if you agree with me, sending messages. Look at you a huge stack of people agree with me. Reading list, checking it twice look what you did we need some cheer when it comes to football, because youd think wed be talking about great scores and great games, but we are talking about this nonsense. Obviously, the match he went to the other day was overshadowed by an alleged racist incident towards Antonio Rudiger. He said that he heard monkey noises, which obviously there has been an investigation launched by tottenham. It was the first time in the premier league there has never been an announcement in the stadium, three times the announcement went out, asking fans to cease racist behaviour. Anyway, further to that. The government says it wont rule out taking further steps if football authorities in england fail to deal with racism. It follows Sundays Premier League match between tottenham and chelsea when play was stopped after Antonio Rudiger said he heard monkey noises. Tottenham have studied hours of cctv footage with lip readers to find the alleged perpetrators, but their findings were inconclusive. Meanwhile a chelsea fan has been arrested for allegedly abusing tottenham player son heung min during the same game. Facing the media ahead of the boxing day fixtures, tottenham Managerjose Mourinho gave his thoughts on the issue of racism in football. Do we need help . Yes. But Society Needs help. We need to eradicate. Is that the correct word . Yes. We need to eradicate any form of discrimination, and in this case, we are speaking about racism. And, yes, football needs help. Be brave and police your own football ground. Good advice. The new arsenal manager mikel arteta has confirmed that Freddie Ljungberg will remain as part of the clubs backroom staff. Ljungberg was in caretaker charge before artetas arrival but they only won once in six matches. Artetas first game in charge is at bournemouth on boxing day. Some breaking news in the last few minutes, ben stokes will not be at England Training ahead of their four test series against south africa because his father has fallen ill and hell be at his hospital bedside. Stokess father ged is said to be suffering a serious illness and was taken to hospital injohannesburg on monday where hes in a critical condition. Englands first match against south africa starts on boxing day. And of course we wish him a very safe recovery. Absolutely. Thank you very much. When you are off home for christmas . Driving home for christmas is gavin and stacey going to feature in your Christmas Day . Absolutely my absolute favourite is nessa. I love her. After ten years, the wait is nearly over, gavin and stacey return with a one off special tomorrow evening, and it is expected to be one of the most watched shows this evening. Bbc breakfast has been granted exclusive behind the scenes access to the set in barry so we sent Colin Paterson along to find out whats occurring. Come and i will show you our big glamourous sets. He whispers. They are rehearsing. Here we go. Would you kindly inform everybody of the difference. This is bbc breakfast. This is christine who has directed every single second you have ever seen of gavin and stacey. She is the secret sauce, no denying that. Say hello to bbc breakfast. Who broke the news to you that it was going to happen again . James corden sent me a text saying can i have a chat . Nothing bad. I thought never in a million years did i think it would be this. Because ive always assumed that it would never happen. It is quite a lot of pressure and i think all of us were quite anxious and nervous coming into it. I have never been more nervous for a job. Why . Because people love the show. I read the script and the script is fantastic. But you just never know. When i read my character it made me start crying. It made me cry. I was sitting in my car after doing a read through on Something Else and i was thinking that ijust want to read the script. Ooh forget that even happened. We got together in los angeles. That sounds glamourous. Were you in the guest wing of this house . We just needed two chairs and a table and we did it. We were happy with what we did, we got in touch with the bbc and said we had a script for a Christmas Special and james put it on his twitter account and people went beserk. Three more photos. Lets get it done you, just dont touch me do you not have a top to put on . You are almost as naked as i am. This is doriss house. This is glenda who owns gwens house. How many people have come in your house since the show was on . About three and a half. 28, you have let 28,000 people into the house since we first came in. These were not in the house. We use the sofas and everything that she had because we did not have the budget. You really did just use her house . We just did not have the budget and it felt so authentic. Honestly, this is the first time i have ever been in here when we have not dressed it. Jo, come forward a little. It is constantly on. I see it when i flicked the channels. I see a bit and cannot stop watching. I love that there are a new generation of people watching it with children who were not even born when this started. They are coming to watch us film and it is lovely. I think its so good. It gives everyone what they want and there are some new things as well, you know . How has uncle bryn changed . If anything, he looks younger. I mean, he has obviously been to a spa in the swiss mountains, colin, and it treated him well. Hello. I love the fact that you just use a normal street. But things happen. And things have happened. I cannot say anything more than that. Im terrified of leaking. Is there a potential for yet more . I do not have an answer to that question. I would have to kill you. And that does not feel very christmassy. We are about to shoot robs last shot, perhaps ever. Not that hes got some terrible illness. Certainly his last of this special and it may be the last time we ever see him. Applause why dont you give your love for christmas . Its its lovely to see that colin will be back in barry island on tomorrows breakfast, bringing us a full interview with james corden. And you can see gavin and stacey on bbc one on Christmas Day at 8 30pm. Thank you for all of you sending in your messages about what you do with the radio times and how you approach it.
