主流教育以考試為本，偏重知性發展，限制了學生發掘生活空間的多元和豐富。鄉土教育，就是透過視覺、聽覺、嗅覺、味覺、觸覺和識覺，認識我們生活的空間，使社群成員認識和欣賞鄉土歷史、地理、自然、環境和文化的獨特性，認同生命的尊嚴，尊重差異和不同的生活選擇，促進社會公義。.

耕種是學習鄉土文化的重要一環，同時我們以生產模式進行耕作，親身加入農業市場，與本地農夫站在同一陣線，支持本地農業。.

鄉土學社的實習農夫都曾於馬寶寶社區農場學習永續農業耕種或Permaculture自然永衡法，我們都一致地認同當中的永續理念：.

- 不施化學物品於農田，保護土地以及四周環境.
- 遵從自然規律，不時不植.
- 循環再用社區資源，回收廚餘、收集乾草造堆肥.
- 本地生產及銷售.
- 農產質素由社區認證，非「有機認證」。設立認證是因為買賣雙方不信任，靠認證來保護雙方。在「社區認證」的概念下，消費者能直接接觸農夫和農田，親身了解農產的種植環境和方法，從而建立信任，不靠中間人。.

廚餘回收.
我們每天到上水石湖墟的食肆和店鋪收集廚餘，拿到田裡造堆肥。廚餘種類主要為未經煮熟的菜尾果皮、豆渣、咖啡渣、藥材渣，這些原本被標籤為「垃圾」的資源能延續其未完的生命，既減輕埋填區的負擔及運輸消秏，亦能物盡其用，成為肥料滋養土地。.

學社依靠與社區的合作來養育土地，也讓區內居民認識在梧桐河邊一小片田野上的鄉土情懷和與自然共生的概念，重構鄰里關係，建立社區網絡。.
