Detailed description is 国頭村（くにがみそん）は、沖縄県国頭郡に属する村である。沖縄本島の北端に位置する。地理沖縄本島最北端の自治体であり、名護市から北東に約30kmの位置に村役場がある。また、村域の95％が森林で、貴重なヤンバルクイナ、ノグチゲラ、ヤンバルテナガコガネなどの動物が生息している。しかし人為的に移入されたノネコやジャワマングースによってヤンバルクイナなどが捕食および生息数の減少が問題となっている。山地が海岸近くまでせまる地形で、各集落は河川の形成するごく狭い沖積平野に立地する。ただ、村の中心地・辺土名をはじめ、奥間・桃原・鏡地・半地の各地区は、赤丸岬を頂点とする陸繋砂州上にあり、国頭村内では例外的に広い平地が形成されている。村を縦断する国頭山地には、沖縄本島最高峰の与那覇岳（503m）をはじめ、照首山・西銘岳・伊湯岳などが連なる。沖縄本島の北端を成す辺戸岬と、鹿児島県に属する与論島は28kmしか離れていない為、晴れている時には与論島が望める。また、面積の23％を、米国海兵隊の訓練場が占める。気候 沖縄気象台のアメダスが村内の奥と比地の2ヶ所に設置されている（後者は降水量のみ）。過去には、与那覇岳にも設置されていた。 奥にあるアメダスは、沖縄本島では最も北に位置する観測点である。そのため、県内ニュースなどにおいて「国頭村奥で●°C、今季一番の冷え込み」等、冬場の最低気温の話題になることが多い。また、奥の冬場の気温はさらに北に位置する伊是名島や与論島等の気温よりも低くなる傾向がある（観測地点の標高が232mとこれらの島より高いところにあるため）。2016年1月24日には3.1℃を記録するなど、沖縄県ではめったにない1桁台の気温を毎年記録している。これまでの最も低い最高気温は1981年2月26日の8.4℃である。年の最低気温はほとんど1月から3月にかけて観測される。
