تخرج من كلية الطب عام 1976، وخلال سنين دراسته انضم إلى لحزب العمل الشيوعي.

على راديو مونتي كارلو الدولي، أعلن المذيع الخبر التالي: .
"في سوق الحميدية المزدحم في دمشق ألقت دورية من فرع فلسطين يقودها الملازم عبد الكريم عباس القبض على المطلوب الأول في رابطة العمل الشيوعي الدكتور عبد العزيز الخير واقتادته إلى جهة مجهولة".

1995.
أصدرت محكمة أمن الدولة حكماً بالسجن 22 عاماً عليه بعد توجيه التهم التالية.
موجهة له إليه التهم التالية:.
-الانتماء لجماعة سياسية محظورة.
-نشر أخبار كاذبة من شأنها زعزعة ثقة الجماهير بالثورة والنظام الاشتراكي..
-مناهضة أهداف الثورة.

أفرج عن عبد العزيز الخير بعدما بقي وحيداً في السجن الذي أفرج فيه عن كل زملائه الشيوعيين منذ عام 2001.

احتجز عدة مرات خلال الثورة السورية ليعاد إطلاق سراحه.

20 أيلول 2012 .
تم اعتقاله من حاجز للمخابرات الجوية على طريق مطار دمشق الدولي بعد عودته من رحلة إلى الصين ضمن وفد من هيئة التنسيق الوطنية.
