Detailed description is אוניברסיטת פרידריך שילר ממוקמת בעיר יינה, במחוז תורינגיה, במדינת גרמניה, ונקראת על שמו של הסופר הגרמני פרידריך שילר.היסטוריהיוהאן פרידריך מסקסוניה היה הראשון שהגה את הרעיון ותכנן להקים את האוניברסיטה בשנת 1547 בזמן שהותו בשבי על ידי הקיסר קרל החמישי.
התוכנית הייתה שהמהלך יגיע לידי ביצוע על ידי בניו ורק לאחר מכן יקבל את אישור הקיסר.
האוניברסיטה הוקמה ב-2 בפברואר 1558.בשנת 1934 הציע הגאולייטר של תורינגיה, פריץ זאוקל, לקרוא לאוניברסיטה בשם "אוניברסיטת פרידריך שילר".
כבר בתחילת אותה מאה עמד מספר התלמידים וצוות הלימוד על 1100, דבר שנחשב ללא-קטן בממדים של עיר קטנה באותן השנים.
