we delight in sharing our love Woodland Harvest started in 2003, as a vibrant teaching & learning working farmstead based on mutual aid, shared abundance and permaculture principles.
the 16 acre woodland harvest mountain farm has grown over the years with the help of dear friends and family, DIY skill shares, work traders, travelers passing through, workshops geared towards accomplishing specific projects, and by utilizing local resources like the university and local nonprofits to bring student groups to the land to carry out various research and hands-on projects.

today, the rustic farmstead hosts small cabins built with locally harvested wood and scavenged materials, activist library, cabanas and fire circle, tree platform, treehouse, multiple camping sites, small pond, pig pens, a half-acre garden, an old growth fruit orchard, honey bee habitat, food forest, fungus habitat, and native woodlands.

the farm operates on an evolving system based on resiliency and common sense.
not many dollars flow in or out of the farm and we produce a modest flow of farm goods to feed our family & visitors with occasional surplus to trade and sell.
food & animal waste is composted and used for fertilizer.
we implement sustainable agricultural practices in our organic vegetable and herb garden, and restorative forestry practices to produce useable materials and maintain forest health.
building materials are scavenged and traded as much as possible.
structures and furnishings are mostly handmade, and often take longer than typical to create due to limited materials and/or labor.
we heat with wood, cook with wood and gas, and use minimal electricity.
solar pv, and a micro-hydro system in our creek produce enough energy to power our basic needs, and passive solar techniques allow efficient use of the sun’s warmth and growing energy.
