Detailed description is Sunday School Several years ago, an initiative group approached the administrators at King David Community Center with an idea for a Sunday School, which would focus on developing young kids' aesthetic tastes, promote creative interests, prepare young kids academically for general education and schooling, and help keep the kids' native Russian language alive..
Let it be noted that the administrators at King David did not hesitate.
Almost immediately, work began for planning the programs, finding a location, and hiring experts in different fields of study.
And somehow, just as quickly, we arrived at the name: "Wonder World" – a Russian folklore equivalent of “Curious George” – to indicate both the appropriate age for the Sunday School's students, and the predominant language of the school..
Currently, the King David Sunday School is working in several directions, each of which we will touch upon later.
For now, it is enough to simply say that the school is gladly visited by children of many different ages, and with many different interests; from those still in their kindergarten years, to those who have spent several years in English-speaking schools..
King David Community Center is a non-profit organization; any profit earned from one activity of the Center simply goes on to finance another.
This is how the Sunday School, "Wonder World" is financed, by the whole of King David Community Center.
And although the programs and lessons offered by the Sunday School have a fee, the price is low enough even for families with a lower annual income.
For instance, if the price of a lesson is normally $25, the parents pay only $10.
Why, you may ask? The director of the Center, Anatoliy Iskhakov, gives two main reasons to answer this question.
First, the current economic crisis does not allow every family to pay in full the price of even a few extra-curricular activities for their children.
And second, according to Director Iskhakov: “trying to save or make money on a child's education is blasphemy.”.
Conveniently, the class-schedule drawn up so far is also made in such a way, that if a child is not attending any scheduled classes, or has an extended break in-between two different classes, they will be taken on by another instructor, so that the parents don't have to sit around in needless, boring waiting.
