Die Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien wurde 1898 gegründet und ist die größte Wirtschaftsuniversität in Europa.

Nachdem das ehemalige Palais Festetics in der Berggasse im 9.

Den Absolventen wurde der akademische Grad eines Diplomkaufmanns (Dipl.-Kfm., später Dkfm.) verliehen, der 1930 ebenso wie der Doktor der Handelswissenschaften (Dr.
rer.
comm.) eingeführt wurde.Die Hochschule während der Zeit des NationalsozialismusAuch für die Hochschule für Welthandel wurden nach dem „Anschluss“ Österreichs an das nationalsozialistische Deutsche Reich dessen Gesetze und Regelungen schlagend.
Davon waren vor allem die „nichtarischen“ Hörer und Lehrkräfte betroffen, die von der Hochschule ausgeschlossen wurden.
Anstelle der vertriebenen Lehrkräfte wurden Professoren von deutschen Universitäten oder regimetreue österreichische Wissenschaftler eingesetzt.
