Western Plains Longbeards NWTF

Dundy,

Nebraska,United-states - 69037

Detailed description is We are a group dedicated to the conservation of the wild turkey and the preservation of our hunting heritage so that all can hunt for many years to come.
The NWTF is a national nonprofit organization it is the leader in upland wildlife habitat conservation in North America.
.
.
Founded in 1973, the NWTF is headquartered in Edgefield, S.C., and has local chapters in every state and Canada.
.
.
The NWTF is dedicated to the conservation of the wild turkey and the preservation of our hunting heritage.
.
.
Through vital partnerships with state, federal and provincial wildlife agencies, the NWTF and our members have helped restore wild turkey populations throughout North America — from a mere 30,000 in the entire United States to more than 7 million across the United States, Canada and Mexico..
.
Who Are We?.
.
We are sportsmen, women and children who care deeply about our natural resources and the wild places we love to hunt..
.
We cherish the memory of the ridge top gobbler we hunted last spring and fondly remember the cornfield where we saw that big buck at sunset two years ago.
.
.
Collectively, we come from all walks of life to engage in conservation and preserve the hunting heritage we all hold dear..
.
We're hunters....
.
Some of us follow bird dogs through waving stands of grass from south Georgia to Montana in pursuit of bobwhite quail and pheasant.
And most of us would rather spend a bitterly cold winter morning knee deep in a flooded oak flat or beaver pond than waste that morning in a warm bed..
.
...
the champions of conservation..
.
According to many state and federal agencies, the restoration of the wild turkey is arguably the greatest conservation success story in North America's wildlife history.
.
.
We have spent more than $412 million to conserve nearly 17.25 million acres of habitat.
.
.
That area is larger than the state of West Virginia..
.
Wild turkeys and hundreds of other species of upland wildlife, including quail, deer, grouse, pheasant and songbirds, have benefited from this improved habitat..
.
Our dedicated volunteers bring new hunters and conservationists into the fold — nearly 100,000 every year — through outdoor education events..
.
Wild turkeys were on the brink of extinction in the early 1900s.
Most wild turkey populations had been wiped out in North America, victims of centuries of habitat destruction and commercial harvest.
As late as the Great Depression, fewer than 30,000 wild turkeys remained in the entire United States..
.
Today that number stands at more than 7 million birds throughout North America, thanks to the efforts of state, federal and provincial wildlife agencies, the NWTF and its members and partners..
.
The comeback of wild turkeys in North America is arguably the greatest conservation success story in history.
Two critical factors were responsible for much of this success:.
1.the creation of propelled nets in the 1950s, which allowed wildlife managers to safely trap wild turkeys and move them to an area with suitable habitat but no wild turkeys .
2.the NWTF's founding in 1973.
.
Prior to our founding, wild turkeys were recovering slowly because wildlife managers could not secure enough resources for wide ranging restoration efforts.
The NWTF offered wildlife managers a partner to raise the funds needed to greatly expand trap and transfer efforts and provide volunteers to help conduct trap and transfers projects..
.
Now, thanks to the our combined efforts, wild turkeys currently occupy 99 percent of suitable habitat in North America.
And because of the success of trap and transfer, the interest in turkey hunting is also increasing.
.
.
.
In 1973, there were turkey hunting seasons in only 22 states.
Today, there are hunting seasons in 49 states, Canada and Mexico.
The majestic birds now provide hunting opportunities to more than 3 million people throughout North America.
.
.
"Although it is certainly true that many lifelong hunters, shooters, and anglers come from traditionally hunting, shooting, and fishing families, there remains a need to focus recruitment efforts on newcomers who do not grow up in such environments.
Indeed, one of the greatest challenges for increased participation in hunting, shooting, and fishing is how to reach and involve individuals who are unfamiliar but interested in these traditions.".
.
So if you love hunting and the outdoors or are interested in being part of something that is life changing, come join our amazing group and get involved with saving the habitat to save the hunt for many years to come of the great outdoors..
