Detailed description is This small town Church is located in Logan County - nowhere near the other Mansfield - and is celebrating it's 182nd year, having begun (1830) in a log Church building, 1/2 mile south of town on what is now CR 142.
In our 4th building in the life of the Church.
1st was the log Church (1830-1852) known as "Lane Chapel", for our 1st Minister - Rev.
Benjamin Lane.
1852 we moved straight east into Union County (on SR 47 east where the current Southard Cemetery is located).
This Church bldg.
(1852-1866) was called "Nation Chapel" for another of our early Pastors - Phillip Nation.
In 1866, part of the Church family moved east and started Bethel Methodist, while our part moved west "to build a Church at the east edge of West Mansfield." Our 4th (current) Church building was built in 1912 on the same site as the 1866 building.
2012 is the 100th Anniversary of our current Church building.
