Generally speaking, the harder you work, the happier and more satisfied you become.
Hard work does not mean to endure extreme levels of conditioning every day.
Hard work for track means that you’ve planned, prepared, reflected, and made necessary adjustments to your strength, conditioning, and training program.

Hard work has a purpose, a direction, and an eye-catching level of focus.
As a result of your hard work, you now have something inside of you that many people want, but never truly get.
Hard work is a discipline, a behavior, a code of conduct, and an ability to make tough choices in honor of what is right even though it would be easier to choose otherwise.
Hard work has an honorable sense of reward that many people wish they could experience, but somehow they never do.
We expect you to stay the course, follow these coordinates, and experience the results.

The expectation for being on this team is that you abide by these coordinates (in conjunction with the Waukesha West Athletic Code).

PRACTICE.
1. Be there on time every day..
2. Come prepared with appropriate clothing (keep an extra set of warm clothes in your track locker)..
3. Provide a written excuse from an adult for any missed practices.

4. Be focused and ready to train.

CONSEQUENSES:.
1. Late for practice = discipline to be determined by Coach Paul.
2. Unexcused absence = 2 strikes and you’re out, find something else to do instead of track.

3. Unfocused, horseplay, unproductive attitude = 2 strikes and you’re out, find something else to do instead of track.

ABSENSES: .
1. If you know you’re going to miss a practice/meet, you need to tell Coach Paul prior to the practice/meet (don’t tell me the day after, tell me the day before).

2. If you know you’re going to miss a practice/meet, YOU need to tell me; don’t have your friend or teammate tell me..
3. If you want to be on the track team, GREAT! But TRACK comes first before work, intramurals, clubs, and most other events.
Talk to your coach if you’re not sure about what you should do.

ILLNESS AND/OR INJURY:.
1. If you get sick/ill and leave school early, you need to provide a written excuse from the school nurse or a doctor and/or your parent/guardian.
If you miss practice and cannot provide a written excuse, you are unexcused.
.
2. If you think you are injured and cannot practice, that needs to be determined by our Trainer and/or a Medical Doctor.
They work with you to determine if you are injured, hurt, or just sore..

TRACK MEETS .
1. Be on time for the bus (get to school 10-15 minutes earlier than the bus time to get ready)..
2. Support your teammates by watching them compete and by cheering them on.
.
3. Only coaches can get you into or out of an event.
You may not “scratch yourself” from an event.
Talk to your coaches if you have issues and/or concerns..
4. Listen to the announcer so you know when to prepare for your event (1st call, 2nd call, 3rd and final call)..
5. You need to start your warm up routine for your event when you hear 1st call.

6. You need to begin your cool down routine after your event.
Don’t just compete and sit.
You need to “cool down” after each event.
Your coach will explain more.

7. You are responsible for your gear and uniform.
If it gets lost, misplaced, or stolen, you are financially responsible for it.
.
8. If you have to leave a meet before the last event, your parent/guardian needs to sign out with a coach.
.
9. BEHAVIOR: .
a. You never talk back and/or argue with a referee for field judge..
b. You always show good sportsmanship in public..
c. You always conduct yourself in a respectful manner (use manners, show gratitude, return equipment, take care of gear and/or equipment)..
d. You always pick up after yourself, throw your trash away, and follow a “leave no trace” clean up routine..
e. You always give your full effort.
No exceptions.

f. Your body is your most valuable resource, treat it accordingly.
Eat healthy (no candy, no soda, no junk food), stay hydrated, and get plenty of sleep.
Rest and recovery are part of effective training.

Everyone experiences issues, problems, and/or concerns at some point.
To help resolve any issues that come up, please use the following format in this order:.

FOR ATHLETES.

1. Speak directly with your Event Coach (we are not mind readers, we need to know what’s on your mind).
2. If necessary, the Event Coach speaks with the Head Coach to discuss the issue and a possible solution.
3. If applicable, we contact parents.
4. If applicable, we contact our Athletic Director.
5. If applicable, we host a meeting .

FOR PARENTS.
1. Contact your son’s Event Coach.
2. If necessary, the Event Coach contacts the Head Coach.
3. If necessary, the Head Coach contacts the parent(s).
4. If necessary, the Head Coach contacts the Athletic Director.
5. If necessary, we host a meeting with the Parent(s), Athlete, Coaches, Athletic Director .
