Detailed description is This organization was founded on the fact that we all know someone who has MS.
My goal is to create awareness through our community! For those of you that don’t know me, my name is Zach Mielke.
Six years ago on July 15th I was told that I have a disease called Multiple Sclerosis.
That day will always be a huge part of my life; because I had to become an adult at the age of 17 who knew nothing about MS.
Coming to terms with what MS is, the toll it takes, and the dedication you need to beat this disease is something that even takes adults years to comprehend.
I couldn’t have done it by myself however; my family and friends had a great part in helping me understand how my life was going to change.
Understanding MS is difficult because everyone suffers from the disease a little different; no two people have the exact same symptoms.
Symptoms can be visible such as inability to walk, slurred speech, but most are hidden from sight.
Depression, numbness, memory loss, blurred vision, weakness, and there are so many others as well.
That’s why being educated is important, and that’s why Walk with Strength exists.
To help people understand, to be an outlet of resources, and most of all an organization that has their back during their fight against MS.

One way that I figured out how to deal with the diagnoses was to put all the unknowns that I had, and use them to create something positive.
The result of that is Walk with Strength.
Walk with Strength is a non-profit organization that many people in our community know and respect for the efforts that we do.
I chose the words Walk with Strength is because when you have MS it really takes all that you have to just do the basics of everyday life.
The strength I see from people who have MS is amazing, because I personally know that this disease physically takes the strength away from us.

What Walk with Strength has achieved over the last six years is more than I ever imagined when I first started this organization.
Walk with Strength has allowed me to grow as a member of the MS family, a part of the community, and as an individual person.
It also has allowed me to meet so many strong and amazing people.
My heart fills with joy knowing that I am making a difference in the community and in the lives of the MS community.
We also partner up with local businesses throughout the year to raise MS awareness.
For one example; Della Vita photography does free photos with Santa.
People who visit that day can make free will donations that benefit Walk with Strength.
It is a pleasure to say that in our first five years we were able to gather between 150-210 people who walk each year to create MS awareness.
Even more amazingly we were able to raise over $42,000 for MS research, scholarships, disability help and medication assistance (Some of these medications can be as expensive as $6,000.00 a month).
All proceeds from Walk with Strength will benefit the Wisconsin Chapter of the National MS Society.
This means that all money raised will stay to help those in Wisconsin.
Currently there are an estimated 11,000 people who are diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in Wisconsin alone.
With that said, for our sixth year I have set a goal to raise over $11,000 in this year’s awareness campaign.
Because of Walk with Strength I get to take part of many cool things.
The one that is new for me is that I will be representing Walk with Strength on the NMSS Wisconsin Chapters Scholarship Committee.
I am so honored to get the privilege to have this experience.
