* Su nombre se debe al conquistador de Costa Rica, Juan Vásquez de Coronado y Anaya (1523-1566).
* Es el cantón número 11 de la Provincia de San José y cuenta con 222,20 Km2 (39% pertenece al Parque Braulio Carrillo).
* Al 31 de enero de 2001 había 55.750 habitantes (27.333 hombres y 28.417 mujeres).
