Versailles wurden im März 2007 von KAMIJO (ex LAREINE) und HIZAKI (ex SULFURIC ACID) gegründet.
Kurze Zeit später stieß Jasmine You, der mit HIZAKI in dessen Solo-Projekt HIZAKI grace project gearbeitet hatte, dazu.
Mit TERU (ex Aikaryu) und YUKI (ex Sugar Trip) war die Band komplett..
KAMIJO und HIZAKI hatten das Konzept für eine neue Band bereits im Herbst 2006 erarbeitet und benötigten sechs Monate, um Mitglieder zu finden, die geeignet waren, es auszudrücken.

Im September unterschrieben sie bei dem deutschen Label CLJ Records und im folgenden Monat erschien ihr erstes Mini-Album "Lyrical Sympathy" zeitgleich in Japan und Europa.
Am 19 August 2008 gab die Band auf ihrer Website bekannt, dass sie ihren Namen ändern würden aufgrund eines Konfliktes mit einer amerikanischen Band namens Versailles.Der neue Name „Versailles -Philharmonic Quintet“ wurde aus mehr als 100.000 Fanvorschlägen ausgewählt..
Am 23 Dezember 2008, kündigte die Band auf ihrem ausverkauften Konzert in der CC Lemon Hall in Tokyo an, dass sie demnächst bei Warner Music Japan ihr erstes Album veröffentlichen.
