IFSA Frequently Asked Questions: .
.
~What is Interfaith? ~.
There are many ways to answer this, but, ultimately, interfaith is engaging with people who orient around religion differently.
The USU Interfaith Student Association hopes to utilize interfaith conversation and service to break down walls dividing people and create safe spaces for the betterment of the community.
.
.
~What does the IFSA do?~ .
We engage with our diverse Aggie family to facilitate positive conversations concerning religious identity, allowing students to bring their whole selves to the table and work together to create activities and do service projects geared towards bringing understand and making our community a better place.
Also, we make friends! We eat! We have fun! We provide spaces where people may feel free to be themselves.
.
.
~Is it geared towards a particular religious group?~ .
Not at all! The IFSA is part of the Access and Diversity Center at Utah State University and is not owned or led by any religious group or institution.
We are certainly willing to work with religious groups in order to facilitate interfaith events and service, just as we have in the past.
Many of our members are also part of such groups, but no specific religious affiliation is required to join and participate.
We accept all! .
.
~I am a Mormon/Atheist/Native Practitioner/Etc.
Will I be welcome with my tradition? ~.
YES! We do not discriminate against ANYONE with regards to their spiritual beliefs and practices, regardless of how present such a belief may be on campus or if an individual chooses not to have any religious identity at all.
The IFSA is diverse and just as you will be welcomed, we ask that you welcome and respect others.
.
.
~But are Atheists/Agnostics REALLY welcome?~ .
YES! YES! YES! In fact, several of our executive officers fall into such categories.
Everyone is valued and welcomed here into the IFSA.
Each person brings with them a unique flavor that adds to the rich taste of our group.
I can assure you, it’s okay! No one is a misfit here.
.
.
~What is it like to be a member of the IFSA?~ .
First and foremost, we are respectful.
Proselytizing, disrespect, or anything else in poor taste which could jeopardize the contentment of another member is not tolerated at our events.
The world is a diverse place, and we not only acknowledge that fact, but we embrace it! IFSA members are still very much devoted to their religious traditions and do not fear that engaging with others will harm their convictions but only improve who they are as individuals.
.
As well, we recognize that we are not perfect people.
There are times when we mess up or say things we didn’t mean to.
When this happens we forgive one another and allow ourselves to grow and develop each day.
We are conscious of the many dietary restrictions and other requirements present in religious traditions and we work to accommodate to these as best as we can.
.
We come from a wide variety of majors: engineering, religious studies, business, etc.
We are all on our own life paths, but we allow those paths to cross for a while in order to come together and do meaningful work towards making Utah State, and the world, a better place.
