Competitive sailing allows cadets to practice the skills they'll need to be a service-ready Ensign.
The Ocean Racing program involves both inshore buoy races and long offshore races.
Buoy races are unique in challenging the team of cadets to make split second decisions and to perform at high intensity for the duration of the race.
Offshore races focus more on endurance, preparation, navigation, and weather prediction.
In addition, the small cadet-to-officer ratio and extreme conditions the ORP offers allow for intimate mentoring opportunities.
