The Undergraduate Researchers Program offers Biology and Biochemistry at UNT the opportunity to perform paid research in the lab of a UNT researcher.
Undergraduate Researchers are supported for up to a year of research with their mentor at $10/hour.
Researchers commit to research for the full year unless they graduate before the completion of their 1 year commitment, and will research 8 hours/week during Fall and Spring Semesters and 40 hours/week during the 10 week summer semester.

Curriculum Development will offer research experience in a guided laboratory instructed by UNT faculty members.
The first course will be offered in the Fall 2011 Semester and will be instructed by Dr.
Michael Allen.
In Dr.
Allen's Systems Microbiology course, students will delete genes in Rhodopseudomonas palustris and characterize the phenotypes of the resulting mutants by a variety of analytical means.
There will also be a physiology reseach course developed by Dr.
Ed Dzialowski for Fall 2012 and a plant biology research course developed by Dr.
Kent Chapman for Fall 2013..

The Transitions Summer Programs is aimed at DCCCD students which aim to transfer to major in Biology or Biochemistry at the university level.
There are 2 phases of the Transitions Summer Program.
The Transitions Summer Workshop targets freshmen and includes academic success skills with an introduction to laboratory practice and intorduction to research.
The Transitions Summer Research Experience places students with UNT researchers to perform research in their labs on the UNT campus.
Participants in both phases of the Transitions Summer Programs are supported with participation and housing stipends..

Howard Hughes Medical Institute also supports the National Genomics Research Initiative (NGRI) Laboratory, is an undertaking of HHMI's Science Education Alliance.
NGRI is a national experiment in both research and education that revolves around a research course in genomics for undergraduate students.
UNT students who participate in this program will enroll in a two course sequence (BIOL 2910 for 2 SCH in the fall semester and for 1 SCH in the spring semester) in which research activities on bacteriophage genomics will be conducted.
These two laboratory courses will serve as replacements for the normal BIOL 1730 and 1740 laboratories in your major.
